The FA are a joke, they won't rescind Shaun Derry's sending off at Old Trafford but they don't give Balotelli further punishment for that disgraceful tackle on Alex Song:bored:.

At least they have charged Ivanovic with Violent Conduct...

Doni

Flanagan - Coates - Skrtel - Johnson

Henderson - Shelvey - Spearing

Maxi - Carroll - Bellamy

Jones, Enrique, Agger, Aurelio, Suarez, Kuyt, Carragher.

Suarez, Gerrard, Carragher, Kuyt, Enrique all rested for the semi on saturday. Got more confidence in the starting team getting 3 points than I have for our strongest 11

Its the first time I've seen Rovers this season and although I don agree with the protests I can understnad why the fans are frustrated. This Liverpool team were there for the taking after they went down to ten men. Even Thommo said it in the studio - they didnt put enough pressure on Liverpools third choice keeper.

But for that late goal (which you could say Kean is right to feel aggrieved over) where Blackburn themselves were pushing for a winner they would be out the relegation zone and up to 16th though. They did the hard work and managed to battle back from 2 goals down which is never easy even against ten men, I think they'd be right to feel a bit hard done by to have come away with nothing. Rovers have been shocking at times this season but I don't think Kean deserves the amount of stick he gets

He as good as said he was playing for a draw against ten men at home. This match was a chance to give his team a bit of breathing space at the bottom but he didn't seem to see it or be playing for it. They lost in the end anyway so why not be a bit more ambitious.

It was unlucky, Iagree, but the lack of ambition against a team that on paper, with eleven, was far from scary; shows he doesn't have the confidence to get his team out of the mess they're in.

Liverpool have sacked Director of Football Damien Comolli after the club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, reviewed the club's failure in the transfer market that saw high profile and expensive acquisitions such as Andy Carroll contribute to a chastening season in the Premier League for Kenny Dalglish's side.

Comolli was appointed to the position of Director of Football Strategy at Anfield in November 2010, and given a remit to oversee the recruitment of players to the club.

His first major impact was to play a role in the January signings of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll, for a British transfer record fee of £35m. He became Director of Football in March 2011, effectively taking on many aspects of a chief executive's role, though focused solely on the business of playing side of the club.

He was pivotal in the signings of Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, Jose Enrique, Sebastian Coates and Craig Bellamy, though in all instances manager Kenny Dalglish had the final say in the deals.

The mixed success of those players, most notably Carroll but also Henderson, Adam and to a lesser extend Downing, appears to have cost him his job.

It is an extraordinary turn of events that sees a high profile member of the administration relieved of his job days before an FA Cup semi-final, against Everton rather than at the end of the season.

However an awful run of results that has left Liverpool closer to the relegation places than the top of the table in terms of points has seen the American owners act decisively.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/9199540/Liverpool-Director-of-Football-Damien-Comolli-sacked-as-owners-react-to-failed-transfers-and-desperate-run-of-results.html

About time, most fans have wanted this for a few months. Strange timing at the same time though. Will be interesting in seeing how different our approach in transfers are now.

I'll miss his creepy face in all the pictures of our new signings.

So annoying the way all these articles keep classing Henderson as a flop aswell, he has been really good for a while now.

Brother Leon
12-04-2012, 01:07 PM
Enrique is the only good signing you made for a while now tbh. You get linked with all the right guys but end up buying average British players for bumper prices.

Samuel.
12-04-2012, 01:15 PM
Wow. Good to see decisions being made.

He didn't do a particularly good job at Spurs either did he? I don't know why he was hired in the first place.

Locke.
12-04-2012, 01:17 PM
Coates is a good signing aswell, he will be a great player.

Henderson is still being judged on his first couple of months, most people that watch our games will agree that he has been solid for a while now (not quite worth the £16 million yet, but he's gonna be a regular starter for a long long time).

Carroll, fair enough, one of my favourite players but in no way worth the £35 million or even half of it.

Downing has improved loads lately but still not worth the price tag, I think we'll keep him for next season though so we'll see.

Charlie Adam... awful, won't be here next season.

Bellamy.. great signing for a free, just a shame about his knees.

Suarez, bargain. His wages aren't too high either (around 60k I think).

Doni, good for a free but I can imagine him being on high wages which makes it kinda pointless because he was hardly ever gonna play.

Hit and miss really with the players, but overpaid massively for the British players just because they are British, could have got the Foreign equivalents of them for half the price

Brother Leon
12-04-2012, 01:19 PM
Oh yeah.

Bellamy was quality business.

Tom, the news this morning that Damien Comolli is leaving the club will have come as a surprise to many fans. Can you explain why the decision was taken?

I think it's fair to say no supporter would be delighted with the results we've achieved this year. We feel we are a club that needs to be perceived as the strongest club in football and we want to get there. Frankly, we make these decisions with a great deal of care because it's our track record in Boston to give people authority and we've had great success with our manager, who was there for eight years, and our general manager, so we prefer stability. But when it's time to act, we need to act. We're coming close to the end of the season and the transfer window for the summer, and we felt it was important to make this change expeditiously.

In light of Damien's departure, do you still think there is a need for a director of football at this club?

We're still confident the structure we've discussed is the right structure. That doesn't mean we won't look at tweaking it, but we feel a collective group of people making football decisions is healthy. The debate is healthy. Part of the reason we made this decision now is because we want to start the process of finding an excellent replacement.

Do you have a candidate in mind for the role?

We don't have any specific candidates in mind. Part of the reason we made this decision yesterday was to be in the best possible position to move forward as quickly as possible.

Is Damien's departure a reflection that the ownership group were unhappy with the return on player investment?

I would say we certainly have the resources to compete with anybody in football. I wouldn't want to get specific about any particular decision that's been made. We feel there is enough talent on the pitch to win and, as I said, we've been dissatisfied, as most supporters have been, with the results so far. But we're also talking about the future - we have a strategy we need implemented and we felt Damien was probably not the right person to implement that strategy.

Does Damien Comolli's departure have any impact upon Kenny Dalglish's position as manager?

Absolutely not. We've got great confidence in Kenny. We feel the team is going to make strides in the future and he enjoys our full support.

Do you envisage any other changes in the senior management of the club?

We do not. It's a good question. We believe the senior management is very strong, Ian Ayre is an outstanding managing director. His charge is to raise revenue so that we can put the resources into strengthening our football club. We've got great confidence in the other people in football operations, and so the answer is there will be no future changes of significance.

In terms of transfer activity this summer, will Damien's departure affect plans that are already underway?

We've had a strategy that we have agreed on. There was some disconnect on the implementation of that. That strategy is a strong one and it will continue. We need to build a strong system under the first team. We're hard at work identifying transfer targets and we will be better next year.

Finally, as chairman of Liverpool Football Club, do you have a message for the supporters ahead of the very important game on Saturday?

We're all excited about this match. We certainly feel the team is healthy and the team is committed. We just attended a practice where they are excited about returning to Wembley. There's only one team in England that has the possibility of winning this cup and the Carling Cup, and I think our supporters around the world should feel very confident.

Samuel.
12-04-2012, 04:29 PM
Love their ambition. Looking forward to the summer window.

Jesus.
12-04-2012, 05:29 PM
American Propaganda. They don't have serious money at all. They have stated several times we can only spend what we make. I'm fed up of any owners we have saying we can compete with the best, just before we find out that we can't.

If they really wanted to invest serious money we would be underway with the stadium by now. Any money invested in infrastructure/stadium is excluded from FFP, so they could get that sorted without penalty. I'm fed up with owners making statements that are obviously lies. I'd rather they said nothing and surprised us, rather than lied and disappointing us.

Few rumours they are looking to sell anyway, so who knows.
