Breakdown - Starring Kirk Russell - a good old fashioned thriller.
A husband and wife are relocating and their car breaks down, a lorry driver pulls up behind them and offers the wife a lift to the nearest diner to call for a tow truck, however when hubby fixes the car by himself, he goes to the diner and his wife is nowhere to be seen and no-one has seen her......good cat and mouse thriller. 9/10

"Into The Wild"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758758/
A very thought provoking film, especially for anyone who has their misgivings about modern society and ever has the desire to just leave it all behind.
- 1 because it's based on a true story and there are a couple of elements that were obviously added just to add some drama that I don't feel were entirely necessary.
- 0.5 because the protagonist is slightly irritating. I think he's supposed to be pretentious and a little bit self-involved, that's a large part of the point in the end, however in the first half of the film he edges a little to vlose to whininess.
- 1 because Kristen Stewart has a minor role in it and Kristen Stewart is awful
+ 1 because I changed my mind... she's not in it for long and in the 10 minutes or so she's around, she shows more emotional range than in the entirity of the Twilight series.
Other than that a really solid watch, well written, well shot and well acted. 8.5/10

Skeleton Twins - Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader star as twins from a dysfunctional family, this is an indie/drama film and both leads were fab in their roles 8/10
Loved Starships Nothings gonna stop us now lipsync :) Hader is particularly brilliant playing the part of a gay man (Milo) who meets up with his sister after a suicide attempt, but you soon realise that Wiig (Maggie) is living a very sad/unsatisfying life that leaves her suicidal too.

A couple of days ago I watched Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
I've got to say that I really enjoyed the plot, and some of the character dynamics were fun, and of course the iconic Music from the Video Games were cool.
The negatives however was dodgy dubbing, and Tifa being irritating for the first quarter of the Film I'll say.

It's a very bizarre film so it's a hard one to recommend lol, but I think I love it for all it's strangeness (and the Sweet Transvestite song ). Yeah I think it had a much bigger impact when it came out than they thought it would, I read that apparently Tim Curry refused to talk about it for years because it's all anyone wanted to ask him about and he didn't want to be typecast as that character (which is understandable lol!)

Maggie - This film is a post apocalyptic film, a deadly disease is sweeping the country turning people into zombies if they're bitten, the disease takes 6 - 8 weeks to "turn" the victim and could therefore be seen that the person has a terminal illness. It's very different to other zombie movies and looks more at the father/daughter relationship, as she slowly turns - i thought this was a visually captivating film, and i thought Arnies acting was very good. 8/10

Funny Face... A bit of a disappointment as I don't think I have ever seen it before, and I just kept cringing at how cheesy the musical bits lyrics were, how unbelievable Fred Astaire was as a love interest for Audrey Hepburn... And how overly choreographed it was.

It was a bit too political to be an Avengers movie, those steer clear of that stuff whilst the Cap movies embrace it. That said, the only thing that makes it a "Captain America" movie more than an "Iron Man" movie is...
The fact that Captain America (more or less) "wins" in the end, and that's because they expect the audience to be more likely to side with the "don't sign" viewpoint than the "become government stooges" choice.

Watched a lot recently without the distraction of the internet at home.
Zoolander 2 - just awful. It made me appreciate anchorman 2 a hell of a lot more because whilst that was still a bit stretched and trying desperately to rehash the same jokes, at least it had some jokes. This movie was just a cameo circle jerk and absolutely none of them pay off. The one LOL moment for me was by a cameo that doesn't even appear: Malala. But it's just a horrible horrible mistake and a chore to watch. A 2/10 just for malala and just for Kiefer Sutherland's residual "why the hell did I sign up for this?" attitude.
Foxcatcher - super creepy, incredibly bleak and depressing in its tone and fantastically acted. I'd give it an 8 out of 10 just because the latter half dragged a bit and the dissolution between DuPont and (was it Mark?) seemed a little thin and sudden. I didn't know about the true events it depicts but Steve Carell sold the isolated, spoilt loner perfectly and I couldn't help but pick up on the homoeroticism :p
The Martian - best movie I've seen in a long long time. I loved Moon, and loved Gravity, and this is the perfect middle ground between those. It's great popcorn entertainment but also super personal and fulfilling. The ending mission is one of the most gripping things I've seen in film in my life, and I actually shed a tear over his crew's decision to go back and try to save him. Brilliant movie and I'd never really been a fan of Damon. 10/10
I did watch another but I've forgotten it...

Ah it was Ant-Man. Really enjoyed that which is odd since I've completely gone off marvel movies because of their tedious wisecracking ass hole characters / Robert Downey Jr in general. Paul Rudd is actually a comedian though and it just works, plus Michael Douglas is a great mentor and has done some great movies recently (loved him in Behind the Candelabra). I'd give it an 8.
..Chappie...the worst thing about this movie is Hugh Jackman's hairstyle..the best thing about it is obviously Chappie......I loved it../..I loved Chappie..even the gang with his 'mom' and 'dad' were endearing and the final scenes were very gripping...(I love the whole idea that our consciousness would be put into robot bodies when we die...)...I somehow drew comparisons with this movie and Beasts of No Nation and Chappie being the innocent child...
...anyways, a perfect blend or adorability, feel good, moral story and action so a very enjoyable 8/10......

Creed - Great movie. Shows Stallone/Balboa in a different kind of role, which he did well. It also proved that Stallone can actually act, when he wants to. 4.15/5
..oh snap, Cald...
..Creed...very much in the same vein as all other Rocky movies so nothing not to love, really...I loved Sly Stallone in the 'Mickey' type role as the trainer and mentor and Michael B Jordan was perfectly cast as Apollo's son, Adonis Johnson...Tessa Thompson is also beautiful and delightful as Bianca.....a great re-vitalisation of the Rocky series of movies...8/10...
..Miracles From Heaven...I'm not sure that this would have been so much my type of movie, had it not been a true story but it's quite an astonishing story which is what makes it so great and such a feel good film...a 10yr old girl has an incurable rare digestive illness, her prognosis is hopeless and she lives each moment of her days in extreme pain...then just as she's giving up on life and finding the thought of death, something she is hoping will happen soon...a freak accident that should have killed her, causes her illness to completely be cured...with no medical explanation at all and she insists that through her accident, she 'spoke to God'...so a 'miracle'...?...
...a stunning performance from Jennifer Garner, who pretty much carries the movie with her performance as Anna's mother and just very, very delightful and uplifting..also a nice touch at the end to show the real Anna and her family...8/10....

..Race (2016)...hmmmm, I'm not sure how to rate this one because I feel as though it stepped back quite a bit from being as powerful as it could have been...the scenes with Jesse Owens competing and his magnificence as an athlete were just too short, I felt...and the rise of Nazism in Germany didn't really hit the sinister mark enough...but then, as was said many times through the movie..did it at the time really feel that far removed from racism in the USA...
..one of the most powerful of scenes being when even after Jesse's Olympic achievements and at a dinner held in his honour at the Waldorf Hotel, policy meant that he must use the service entrance...
..a great cast, especially obviously Stephan James as Jessie...and Jason Sudeikis is very endearing as his coach also..anyways, although the storyline seemed to race along a little too quickly for me, it was still thoroughly absorbing so maybe around a 7-8/10-ish....
I'd give The Nice Guys a solid 8.2

Beaches - Was my first time watching it, really enjoyed although it kind of brought up some sad memories for me 8.5/10
The Huntsman : Winters war - It was an enjoyable fairytale type film, does what it says on the tin and Chris Hemsworth is in it mmmm 7/10
Extinction - It was alright, nothing amazing but watchable 6/10
400 Days - aaarrrgghhhh this film annoyed me so much 2/10
400 Days spoilers***
Films like this piss me off so much, it was kind of boring and had all this weird s**t happening and I literally only kept watching to find out what was going on and of course the film just ends so they never even had to give any sort of explanation. It's such a cop out, it means that they can basically throw any kind of s**t in there knowing they'll never have to come up with any decent explanation for it
ETA : It's not that I'm totally against endings that leave you decide some things yourself, like Inception for example, it worked and it felt like that was exactly what the writes had planned from the very beginning. 400 Days just feels like the writer decided that by having a non ending he could throw in a whole range of stupid s**t he'd never have to resolve. like with Inception you're only really left wondering was he still dreaming and that works in that film. This film leaves you with mountains of questions like
Is the earth really gone? If so why is it populated only by the reporters who were there at their "launch" and that girl from the girly mag? So it probably isn't real? So if it's not real is it a hoax and an elaborate set? and if so did they just allow the Crew murder two of their "Actors" or is it all in their heads and part of the experiment? And if so what exactly was this experiment trying to prove? If they were pumped full of hallucinogenics how is that similar to a normal astronauts experience in space?
Beaches - Was my first time watching it, really enjoyed although it kind of brought up some sad memories for me 8.5/10

Independence Day: Resurgence - meh it was more or less just a complete copy of the original minus Will Smith who was obviously the best thing about the original. It was mindless viewing but it was good in 3D visually 6/10
Straight Outta Compton - Not a massive fan of rap music but I'd heard of alot of the characters in this so was good to see how they started out and also obviously i remember the Rodney king story and the riots etc so seeing that piece of history linked in with it too was good 7.5/10

Solid film and a lot better than I had hoped it could be, of course I went in being more open minded than a lot of people who will go see it will be. Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie: As someone who also loves the TV series, this film was quite enjoyable and somewhat lived up to expectations. The start-studded cast works well without it being obnoxious and using their names for the sake of it (the airplain scene with Rebel WIlson was especially funny (Rylan barely spoke too. Thank god tbh)), and it was great to see the usual likes of Bubbles, Saffy, Edina's Mum, Emma Bunton & Lulu. There were lots of little quirks that work well since the film's plot is far from complex.
Edina and Patsy are legends. If you enjoy the TV series, you'll enjoy the film. The actress who plays Saffy's daughter Jane/Lola fits in perfectly.

The Conjuring 2. Scared the crap out of me. And to think this is based on a true story D:
Very loosely. The Enfield hunting is supposed to have been real (although the two girls were caught bending spoons and making things up so yeah mmhmm) but the married couple in the story apparently had little to nothing to do with this case so in effect most of the Conjuring 2 is in fact not based on much truth at all. Also, that couple (who are widely viewed as con artists, even within their circle) other "claim to fame" (and was also shown at the start of the Conjuring 2 was The Amytville haunting which has been proven to be faked

Suicide Squad - 8/10
I'm not sure where all the negative reviews are coming from. Was it perfect? No. I wasn't expecting it to be as enjoyable as it was and the more I think on it, the more I realise how much I enjoyed it. I had a good few laughs at it. Margot Robbie was perfect in it too, completely stole the show.
Finding Dory - 8.5/10
Loved it. I think Finding Nemo is a better film overall but as far as sequels go, this one was definitely a step up from the likes of Cars 2 and Monsters University. I think it had a great balance between comedic scenes and the emotional scenes and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I saw it at the Tyneside Cinema and give it a 9/10
It loses a point for some possible plot holes, which may or may not be fair and what seems to be an inconsistency
Sophie lives in an orphanage at the start of the film. In 1975 when this was a short story and 1982 when the book came out, those institutions in the UK may have been around, but in 2016, when the film was released, as far as I am aware, the only place were children are kept in institutions are secure training centres where children are sent to by the courts. Today orphans are usually placed with the wider family or if that is not available, in foster care rather than an orphanage. (Let me know if orphanages still exist in the UK, especially London where the film seems to start off)
This could be unfair, given when the book was published, and as stated, practices have changed, but he director does not establish that the film events take place in 1975 or the 1980's so the assumption is that it takes place in 2016.
Sophie says she was orphaned as a baby, so why if this takes place today, is she in an orphanage? A few years ago there was an initiative to give financial incentives to councils who placed children up for adoption, which led to allegations of legal baby snatching by social service departments, as babies were easier to place. According to the summary of the book, it states Sophie is young. If that is so, she was an orphaned baby when this policy was in full force, so she would not have been in an institution, she would have been adopted out.
The bad giants seem to shrink when they get picked up by the helicopters near the end, indicating that scales seem to change, which is inconsistent. If you know the helicopter they use, you will spot that one

Hush
I thought it was excellent. It's about a deaf woman who is attacked by a murderous home invader. The way they utilised the deafness of the main character was great and it was a highly tense film throughout. I loved how little dialogue there was, it really helped ramp up the tension. Only bad thing about it is that, aside from the deaf angle, it's a bit typical in places but still an excellent horror film.
8/10
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny
It's a competent martial arts film but a poor follow up to CTHD. It doesn't have the heart that the first film had and the plot is both weak and full of holes. I didn't mind it for what it was but I was very disappointed when I think of how good the original was.

Chernobyl Diaries - 6/10
I had been wanting to see this ever since it came out. The idea behind is original and is probably enough to get anyone to watch it. However, it was poorly executed and had so much potential to be a classic. The only good things about it was the creepy setting and atmosphere, and I suppose the tour guide was ok, but in typical fashion he was the first to be killed off lol. The fact that the mutants/nuclear victims were never properly shown seemed pretty stupid, and the ending was ridiculous too.
Nathan Phillips (Wolf Creek) being in it was also a positive

A bit cheesy I know but a true cult classic. What gets to me emotionally is that Christopher Reeve (1952-2004), who plays Superman passed away 12 years ago. A brilliant film, despite the dated sfx and flying scenes.

Cruel Intentions (1999) - 9/10
It was on TV last night and I hadn't seen it in about 10 years? Teen films aren't really my thing but when they're done well they're pretty fun to watch and this film was one of them. It was highly entertaining and made me laugh on several occasions. It also features a great (and quite nostalgic) 90s cast.

Don't Breathe - 8/10
The idea behind this is great and completely original, the acting was good and the story moved along nicely, with enough scares to keep a horror fan satisfied. However, there were one too many plot twists for my liking, which kind of cheapened the film a bit. They should have stuck with the less is more approach for the ending like they did for the majority of the film. All in all a memorable movie that I would highly reccommend.

United 93. I don't recommend it. It just hurts too bad noticing all that courage in the plane knowing it led to nothing. Each second you watched you hope it's a film and they make it especially since the heroes managed to make it in the cockpit just before it crashed you hope they make it, but then you remember it's not some Steven Seagal film. It's just so damn sad, crying so hard. Their heroism is to be applauded.

I do think that's part of the issue with Civil War... the old guard are starting to feel sort of stale. Black Panther and Spider-man stole the show IMO (including the action scenes) even though they didn't have huge roles. Ant-Man was good too. I enjoyed Scarlet Witch / Vision's scenes, too. The "oldies" though (Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye) felt a bit like it was phoned in / tired.

Devil Knot- true story about 3 boys that spend 18 years in prison for a crime they supposedly didn't do because now they have been released. Only one over 18 was put on death row. 3 little boys, sweet souls, were bound, one was castrated and they were murdered in 1993. It was a small town so because those 3 boys stood out as being in a satanic cult they are made the scapegoat. A documentary was released in 1996 about this and it got them Hollywood support from Johnny Depp, Marilyn Manson, Eddie Veter. Since technology advantaged they did DNA testing in the late 90s and one of the murdered boys stepfather's hair was found at the scene. He's not been convicted though because of alibi but many people believe he did it including the boys who were jailed. A lot of what I've just said isn't in the movie itself but I've been reading on this all night. Sigh amongst this publicity seems people forgot who really matter- the murdered boys. I hope they see justice, one of the mums is still fighting for it.

Well basically, the start of the movie is when Camille(Rita) is about to be shot but gets away, that's an alternative to her actually being shot by the hitman that Diane(Betty) hired to kill her. Basically most of the movie is like a dream fantasy of how Diane would have liked her life to be, Camille loves her and depends on her rather than the reality of Diane loving and needing Camille, she's the successful actress rather than Camille, the director loves her her rather than Camille, the fake Camille only gets the part in the film over the more talented actress because the director is forced to pick her etc. The blue key in the dream/fantasy is just a dream version of the blue key in reality that is the sign from the hitman that the job is done and Camille is dead and once she uses that key in the dream, "Betty" disappears and she's snapped back to reality and is consumed with guilt and the reality of what she's done, her failures etc and she kills herself. The characters in her dream world all seem to be people she saw at that party that pushed her over the edge. The old couple were in the very beginning of the dream as well where there was that Jitterbug contest so maybe were the judges at that or possibly her parents

I watched Nightcrawler (2014) last night and it was pretty good and dark. Jake Gyllenhaal was very good.
"Nightcrawler is a 2014 American neo-noir crime thriller film written and directed by Dan Gilroy in his directorial debut. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a thief who starts shooting live footage of accidents and crimes in Los Angeles, selling the content to a local news channel as a stringer while secretly sabotaging both crime scenes and other news reporters. It also features Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed and Bill Paxton.
The film had its world premiere at the Special Presentations section of the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.[2] It was released theatrically by Open Road Films on October 31, 2014.[3] It received critical acclaim and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay at the 87th Academy Awards."

Blair Witch - 6/10
I was really looking forward to this, seeing as how good the original was, but overall, the hype slightly ruined it and it kind of fell flat. The first 30 minutes looked promising, what with new characters being introduced and knowing that instead of the usual shaky camera we always get, there would be modern equipment like drones for example. The use of a drone was totally original and would have added a lot to the film but it was barely put to any use. What made the original a classic was the minimum jump scares and that you had to imagine what was going on, but in this one the jump scares are way overused. Like, it's not even the fact that someone appears out of nowhere, it's the unnecessary loud noises, which actually became quite comical over time. The characters were ok I guess, but you never really cared about their fate. One character called Lane seemed interesting but was lazilly written had a lot of potential, only for it to go to waste, which pretty much sums up the whole movie tbh.
All in all it was a fairly enjoyable film to watch, but if you've seen the original and are expecting this to bring something new/different to the table then you might feel a little disappointed.

Basically this movie is set after a zombie apocalypse has been controlled and humanity has gone back to normal - One woman decides to buy an island and sets up a safari/theme park where people can pay to hunt zombies.
All goes wrong and the zombies are released and take out the guests and staff leaving a band of survivors to find their way off the island.
It's definately Jurassic World with zombies, even some of the casting and costumes were similar but I actually enjoyed it! the writer had some pretty good ideas and there were a hand full of characters who I cared about, especially Jessica De Gouw as Melanie. The action was good and plenty of gore.

Got around to seeing Spectre today.
Enjoyed it a lot and appreciated the Bond theme a lot more in context of the film... Waltz is always excellent and the sequences were almost all enjoyable. Only thing I'd criticise is the overuse of pointless steamy scenes but then it is Bond... didn't enjoy it as much as Skyfall so a 8/10 from me.
..The Martian...an amazing performance from Matt Damon.....I'm really coming to like him a lot as an actor...the movie kept the tension right through and I could hardly breathe in the final scenes...
..I honestly thought that he wasn't going to make it...
..a great cast, a great movie and a great 9/10......

He does have talent and he proved it on The Wedding Singer. But I can't stand the silly movies he usually makes

High Tension - 8/10
A great french horror film. Full of suspense, it's quite similar to Wolf Creek actually. Although the twist at the end was a mess.

I started watching this with extremely low expectations having not been a fan of any of Rob Zombie's previous movies.
The premise is that a group of carnival workers are ambushed released into a huge trashed building and forced to play a game in which they are hunted down by killers for 12 hours - should they survive they are free.
What follows is a gore-fest, with skulls smashed in with bats, slit throats, chainsaw decapitations and people being gutted.
I found it quite fun, it's nothing ground breaking but I enjoyed a few characters but they had little depth. The gore is extreme and some overacting from the cast detracts but overall it was a fun concept and it's always great to see Meg Foster in a film.

Just watched Money Monster. It's a nice one, lacks a bit of credibility at one point, but harmless. :spin:

At first sight. Omg such a beautiful movie. And it's a true story. Crying so hard:bawling:
..I watched a movie called Out of Order..I think it was one of those made for TV movies but actually really quite good, very dark in exploring the damage in people from childhood and how it destroys so many relationships../that trust gone forever...also really lovely to see Felicity Hoffman in a role when she was much younger and what a great actress she is and always was..I hadn't really seen her much before Desperate Housewives....7/10 I think.....
I watched this the other day ammi and i loved it! Amazing film!
....it might actually be now one of my top movies ever, Johnny../one of those movies that was sad but at the same time, had me laughing out loud on a few occasions...
..it was so sad when she died but then at the church/at the funeral hilarious....Sam Neill is a great actor but the young actor in it though....
...Concussion...an incredible true story with Will Smith going head to head with the NFL in his research of CTE brain injuries...Dr. Bennet Omalu, just an inspirational guy...Will is such a likeable and convincing actor in everything he does so for him as well, an 8/10....a really absorbing story and movie...

A group of friends on their way to football game decide to stop off at a diner and ask for directions after getting lost. Not long after they realize one of the girls has lost her phone and after calling they find a kind stranger has found it and arrange pick up in a local town.
When night arrives the group find that all is not what it seems and the town is filled with insane killers all dressed as clowns and they stalk the friends one by one.
Ultimately this is a movie with a quite interesting premise but the acting is awful from all but maybe two and criminally its quite boring. The clown make up was great though.

After a failed attempt at suicide because her boyfriend dumps her a girl decides to take her mind off her mothers over baring worry by sneaking out with her friends and going to get drunk at an abandoned factory. They decide to play a game of knucklebones a local urban legend and they end up summoning a demon.
This is super low budget and the acting is pretty bad (failed Hollyoaks audition bad) but I felt it added to its charm. My favourite thing was the practical gore fx, which include an axe splitting a guys head in two, a girl giving birth to the demon and another woman being cut in half from groin to neck.
There is a pretty good twist and the demon himself is a wisecracking asshole which I found funny. Good fun if you look past the hit and miss acting and low budget.
