Exactly I agree! they could have done a lot more to make her seem powerful but i hope they do that during End Game but i don't want her to be the one to defeat Thanos. I hope we get Captain Marvel 2 and tbh Brie has potential to be in my top 5 Avenger depending on how she is during End Game and if there's a second film. Irrelevant to CM I'm pleased to find out that Black Widow is getting her own movie and apparently Emma Watson will be on it (but that's just a rumour that i hope is true) I've always wanted a Black Widow movie.

I don't want her to defeat Thanos too and I don't think she will. I think it will be between Cap, Tony and Thor, or a combo of them 3.

I'm sure there will be a sequel to CM after Endgame

Yeah I'm excited for Black Widow to be getting her own solo film, it's about time too.

I don't think CM is supposed to be or going to be INSANELY powerful, it would break the MCU if she became a Mary Sue. I imagine she'll overall be of a similar power level to "Hyperthor" (when he goes all lightning eyes), maybe a bit more powerful, but I also suspect she'll only be able to "go binary" like she was at the end of CM for a limited time before she has to have some time to recharge.

Rewatched GOTG2 earlier today and quite enjoyed it this time round. Also had never noticed the "Easter egg" with Drax at the beginning - when he seems not to be able to see Baby Groot when he stops dancing - suggesting that Drax' species has vision that's based on movement... Explaining why he thinks Starlord and Gamora shouldn't be able to see him "because he's standing so perfectly still" in Infinity War :omgno:.

Escape Room - Possibly as high as a 9/10... such a good movie, best of its kind (out of the 'stuck in a room'/survival type of films; idk if there's a better specific term to use for it).

Also watched Glass recently (well a few weeks ago) - A disappointing 5/10 honestly, maybe 6/10 at best. Unbreakable & Split were so much better.

The 5th Wave 8/10

nice storyline, also some nice acting from Chloe Grace Moretz, Liev Schreiber

harshly rated by IMDB as usual they do to movies we like :idc:

it does show how versatile Chloe is, we know her from kick-ass, kick-ass2 but here she also showed a lovely fierce side without a superhero character, but more in a apocalyptic setting, this survivor side of hers could easily have potential for a show like the walking dead

Welp, there's a very differing opinion on this movie :joker:The thing is, confusingly, there are two films with the same name. There's a recent movie that was in theatres called ESCAPE Room that was generally well reviewed - but there's also a 2017 Netflix film called Escape Room that was ****. Causes quite a bit of confusion. Like...

It was cute, not very ambitious but it didn't need to be. It's a solid and very entertaining film and I enjoyed it a lot. I like that DC seem to be going along with a strategy of delivering completely different styles of films with each one they release. I think it's something that will work for them.

Endgame 9/10

I found the 2nd act dragged slightly but only for maybe 5 minutes out of a 3 hour film so that's really quite impressive; and there's an immersion-breaker in the final battle that I discussed in the other thread

The girl power part where all of the female heroes turn up to help Captain Marvel. Scarlet Witch and Valkyrie yes, Pepper Potts too why not, all fast-moving enough to appear from all corners. Others like Okoye, Gomora & Nebula, Mantis etc. all suddenly showing up out of nowhere out of sheer coincidence? No it's DAFT. Stop it. It doesn't make sense. Having three powerful female heroes (mentioned above) show up to help the most powerful female hero would have been a FAR more powerful moment with the same message, because it wouldn't have broken the logical flow of the film and made me think "Oh yeah I'm watching a film."

But let's face it, other than that and a few minor discrepancies like Cassie Lang's age, the movie is more or less perfect and an amazing watch, so an easy 9.

Omg wow. I'd heard about this movie for years and years and finally got around to watching it tonight. Amazing, basically a road movie with a really heartwarming story. Kind of a slow burner but stick with it it's amazing. The acting and especially cinematography in this are incredible, it even won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1984. I cried at the end! :omgno:

A dishevelled man who wanders out of the desert, Travis Henderson seems to have no idea who he is. When a stranger manages to contact his brother, Walt, Travis is awkwardly reunited with his sibling. Travis has been missing for years, and his presence unsettles Walt and his family, which also includes Travis's own son, Hunter. Soon Travis must confront his wife, Jane, and try to put his life back together.

Aladdin

When I first left the cinema, I thought it was decent but the more I think about it, the more I like it a lot.

Will Smith isn't great as the Genie, he veers too much in between being a pale imitation of Robin Williams and being too.... Will Smith-y and not enough Genie. He's decent though, he doesn't ruin the film but the new Jafar is TERRIBLE. He's a bratty character with a very weak actor portraying him and it's just a world away from the original Jafar.

The actors playing Aladdin and Jasmine are fantastic though, Aladdin's actor doesn't have the best singing voice but he is pretty much a live action version of the animated character in pretty much all ways. When he smiles it's like looking at the animated character, it's eerie in a way. Jasmine's actress is really strong too and her character's been completely overhauled in the best ways. She's a very modern Disney princess now and that's great because now she actually has a character arc, she doesn't exist to be a love interest and she's far from a damsel in distress. Jasmine's an improvement over the original in every way. She also has the only new song and it's pretty great.

One thing that surprised me was that this is a very different film to the original and none of the changes are bad at all. The second half of the film is almost a complete departure to the animated version and I think the story has more depth and nuance to it. I really liked the changes overall.

As for the music, I don't think any of the new versions of the classic songs come close to the originals but they are decent takes on the classics. Jasmine's new song is good and fits in perfectly with who she is in this film.

Overall I think it's a really good live action adaptation with a few weak spots that don't dampen the strong parts of the film at all. If you love Disney, you'll probably love this too.

A great lighthearted family superhero flick. Utterly hilarious from start to finish. One of the best from DCEU. Almost came close to snatching the tile from Aquaman as my favourite DCEU film.

Endgame 10/10.

Easily the greatest CBF of all time imo. A spectacular, thrilling, shocking, engaging, gripping, emotional rollercoaster of a ride. The best time I've ever had at the cinema and likely ever will.

Not the best movie ever, but it doesn't pretend to be. One of those movies you just enjoy as background noise. Jennifer was good as always.

Mowgli;

Seeing as I had watched The Jungle Book remake the day before watching this, I was pretty shocked at how much more.. intense it was? I was expecting it to be a literal carbon copy, but it was a lot darker than I thought it would be, it lacked a bit of comic relief that the remake had and the acting, surprisingly, wasn’t all that great, but still a decent enough movie to watch, not a masterpiece though.

Honestly I think the last film I watched (in completion) was a cheesy Christmas24 film D:

It was about a single mum who meats a recently divorced man who ends up becoming great with her kid, but it doesn't work out, but the kid uses her Christmas wish to ask for a dad or something, and the mother and her boyfriend reconcile? :suspect:

(and the sad thing is, I think there was more than one film with that plot :worry:)

Sing - I'm not normally the biggest fan of Musicals, but this Film made me laugh quite a lot, and most of the Drama was actually written well which is unusual in Musicals imo, the only character I weren't very keen on was the Elephant character as her story was just a little too dull for my tastes. My two favourite characters were probably Ash and the Rat character that sung Swing Music (I can't remember his name) overall I'd score the Film 9/10.

Sinister 1 - This Film reminds me so much of The Ring, the Film takes a few minutes to fully understand what kinda Horror Film you're watching, but once it gets into it you're really in for a treat. I personally thought that Ethan Hawke acted the role very well imo, and I personally believe that if he had've delivered that performance in a genre that the Oscars approve of he'd have easily got a nod from them in 2012 imo. The biggest weakness for me in the Film personally was the Ethan Hawke's character and his Wife have no chemistry in their scenes with each other, thankfully they don't have that many scenes.

Maybe it's my bias towards Horror kicking in here but I'd score Sinister 9.5/10.

Not a big Tom Hardy fan and his American accent was a bit dodge, but overall I actually really enjoyed it, thankfully there was a bit of humour in it as I was expecting it to be full on angsty, the special effects were great, the concept of the only people viable to host the symbiots being the 3 main characters, with no explanation, was a bit off, not enough to damage the film though, I don’t know if there’s any word of a sequel but if there is one, i’ll be all over it like a tramp on a sandwich.

Toy Story 4

It was good, had a few comedic moments and was overall enjoyable but felt really unnecessary in the long run and kind of negated the 3rd movie which already had the PERFECT ending to the series.

Tau - I quite liked it, it had a few contrived moments where the main character had plot armour, but overall I thought that the Film had interesting themes, good acting (especially off the guy that created Tau) and imo decent pacing for the type of story that they were going for. I think I liked how different it was to the usual Movies that I watch too.

Overall I'd score the Movie 8/10.

I probably should be more picky in my reviews, but I'm probably just easily pleased when it comes to Movies.

Venom 7/10 - It's not as bad as critics make out but it's not amazing either. I like the film though and i liked Tom Hardy as Eddie/Venom. The fighting scenes were good, i wish this film was longer than 90 mins though. Google said it was 2 hours 20 mins and the length on blu-ray was 1 hour 50 mins but 20 mins of that is end credits with some post-credits scene.

The Boy - I did quite like this Film, and Maggie from TWD does a decent acting performance as the lead, however I definitely found that the second half of the Film did lose a bit of steam for me personally, and I didn't get the point as to why the leading man of the Film was getting so many scenes when he only had one important scene in the whole Film imo. Overall though the first half of the Film was strong, decent acting by Horror standards, and I really liked the concept and how twisted the villain really was. Overall I'd score the Film a 7/10

The Equalizer - The opposite to The Boy imo, a slow start (with good reason tbf) that slowly grew into a bigger thing as it went along, it's not the best Movie ever made (not even close) but it has strong action scenes where Denzel Washington's character makes Batman look weak as ****, it has a strong antagonist in the Film that has a few good scenes with Robert McColl (I pray that's his name anyway lol) and overall it's just a good fun Film. The main thing that I would've fixed in the Film was the ending tbh where the head of the Russian Mafia is a moron. Overall I'd score the Film 7/10

So far lately I've been having a lot of luck with Movies, I hope that continues.:joker:

I watched Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It won an Oscar and got great reviews, but to be honest, I couldn't get into it like the live-action films. The animation is very fast and bright.

So before I was rudely interrupted, I was doing a Fincher fest.

I've decided that Fincher isn't that great after all. Seven and Fight Club are overrated, Zodiac isn't as good as I thought, I've since watched Panic Room, and that was crap. Social Network is his best film, but that isn't overly special.

Being kicked off the forum for a month by the powerful ones has given me time to film binge. I've watched at least a film a day sometimes 2 and sometimes 3, over the last month, so I've watched plenty. The last film I watched, last night was Wallace and Gromit the curse of the were rabbit. Great film, one of the best of the 21st century. I give it 10/10

I've just watched Venom and I've got to say that whilst it's no Dark Knight or MCU quality, it is still a fun Film with a unique twist on the Venom character imo. The only real flaw that annoyed me in the Film is the love interest (I know in a Superhero story) but she came across as really unlikable to me, I don't know if it was meant to be intentional or not but she just seemed like a total bitch to Eddie. I mean I get that he made a mistake that also took a bad turn on her near the beginning of the Film, but to be so extreme as to dump him for one mistake was harsh imo.

Anyway overall I'd rank the Film 7.5/10

I do apologize for the monologue, I've got to seriously cut down my reviews to smaller text.:joker:

...When They See Us...a movie series of four parts...it was one of the most powerful things that I’ve watched for a long time, even though I knew the Central Park Five story...it’s a superb dramatisation, the casting is just excellence...just heartbreaking to watch the helplessness and despair of those children and their families...it made you feel so much of what they would have felt...a few times I had to pause it because it was too much, just to be able to breathe for a moment....just excellent..10/10...and a haunting and superb soundtrack as well...

I watched Apollo 13 from 1995 again, because it was discussed on a podcast I listen to.

Really good film about the ill-fated mission to the moon. A lot of the dialogue is based on the real transcripts from the mission, and I like how they don't shy away from talking about the technical stuff, because they understood that a lot of the drama came out of that.

They filmed a lot of the weightless shots on the plane used to simulate zero-gravity.

I think it is better than First Man - the recent film about Neil Armstrong and Apollo 11.

I loved End Game and recently rewatched now that it's out on Digital. I would say though that it's not one that you can just "drop into" like the other Marvel movies this year (Captain Marvel and Spider-man)... if you haven't followed basically ALL of the MCU main-title movies you would just have absolutely no idea what's going on for most of the film. It would just be a string of utter chaos :joker:. It's the perfect final chapter to the OG Avengers saga but it's definitely not a standalone movie.

I get that the Film couldn't do everything that modern Horror Films can (which as a fan of the first Psycho, the first Friday The 13th, and most installments of A Nightmare On Elm Street) I can accept that the laws at the time couldn't permit Halloween to show graphic violence (which is normally expected to some degree in modern Horror Movies) but the Film felt more like a Thriller than a Horror Film imo, Michael Myers is barely shown to do anything and hardly kills anybody in the Movie, and Jaime Lee Curtis's character is largely redundant until near the end of the Film, and tbh I didn't really get an eerie vibe from the Film (again something to fall back on in the Horror genre if all else fails) and the pacing was quite slow even by Horror standards, I mean how long did it take to get to night time? Score - 4/10

I didn't think that all of it was bad tbf, it had one jumpy death scene imo, and Jaime Lee Curtis gives out a decent acting performance imo, but that is kinda where it ends for me, a huge disappointment.

Halloween (2018) - surprisingly enjoyable. Didn’t expect it to be but I very much enjoyed it! Some very tense scenes and good jump-scares but sadly just doesn’t match the “charm” (for want of a much better word) of the original.

I watched La La Land yesterday. I thought it was pretty good, better than I thought it was gonna be, I'll definitely giving it another viewing sometime. That "City of stars" song ends up staying in your head for a while, I've been bursting into to it every now and then since I watched it.

Volcano is ok to, but so unbelievable  Dantes peak seems to be quite accurate.

Main issue I have with it though (and this is kinda nitpicking) is how the lake immediately turned to acid on contact with the lava..it wouldn't happen that quickly. Also how it has 2 types of lava from one eruption. Would be one of the other.

I don't know if I've had a stroke or something but I actually really enjoyed it this time!Did you watch the Director's Cut? There are some quite subtle changes in the additional runtime that make the whole film come together MUCH better than the theatrical cut, which was full of really weird scene transitions. It makes the entire film flow better and much more watchable. I'm gutted that we never got a Zack Snyder cut of Justice League because I can pretty much guarantee I'd have enjoyed it much more than the version that was released. mother! - like, what on EARTH was that all about!? Weirdly couldn’t stop watching but I categorically did not understand it. 7.5/10In short; he's God, she's Gaia ("mother earth"), it's a metaphor for the story of creation, sacrifice and original sin. The house filling with people for the "party" is the world filling up with humans, the baby is Jesus, etc etc.

I enjoyed it but I found some of the metaphor a bit on-the-nose.

It's possible - it was a DVD my friend put on, so I didn't really notice which version.
Maybe I've just mellowed a bit because I gave Titans another chance and liked it this time around! After the first few eps of S1 anyway, I still didn't much like the opening.

The comparison my friend gave was "can you imagine them working in a shop?" I can picture Ben Affleck saying "yes sir, we do have those shoes in your size, I'll be right back!" but not the others :joker: but that didn't affect my enjoyment tbh

I think I was a stick in the mud about the DC adaptions because I like the comics so much, and want them to be the same. But I decided to pull the stick out a bit and just enjoy them for what they are, and it's much better! Though I do prefer what I've seen of the Arrowverse and Titans so far.

ANYWAY I watched Terminator 2 last night, loved it as always. I wonder if Arnie being the good guy was meant to be a surprise, as the movie didn't make it clear which Terminator was which until the shootout, and he was the baddie in the previous one.

I think the audience was probably meant to assume that Arnie was bad again right up until he grabbed John and shielded him from the gunfire. However, I imagine it may have been spoilered on release by trailers / promotional material.

Hush - Give it a few minutes to warm up and you'll be away with a very good psychological Horror/Thriller type of experience. There's only one thing I'd have fixed about the killer in the Film, other than that I'd say that he was highly entertaining to watch.

8.5/10

War Of The Worlds (2005) - Again give it a few minutes to warm up and you're on your way with the Film then, it imo combines a lot of the best elements of The Last Of Us, Falling Skies, and TWD into one neat little package. I'd have fixed the ending up a little bit, and the son could be written to be quite annoying, but to me I just really enjoyed the Film so I can forgive the flaws.

I agree with you on Hush.

I get where you're coming from with War Of The Worlds, I think that the biggest strength for that Film for me was the survivalist elements that sadly can get overlooked in some Post-Apocalyptic/Dystopian stories and it was nice to see that this story didn't forget about the cornerstone of the genre imo. I think the Tripods could've maybe done with more development in terms of personality, but I do respect what the Film went for.

Cheap Thrills (2013)

A black comedy thriller about the lengths people will go to for money.

Craig (Pat Healy), an auto mechanic who loses his job and is facing eviction from his house due to being unable to pay his rent, goes to a bar where he meets his old friend from high school, Vince (Ethan Embry). They meet a rich couple, Colin and Violet (David Koechner and Sara Paxton). They derive enjoyment from making wacky bets involving risky dares and large amounts of money. As it's Violet's birthday, Colin offers them dares in exchange for money. The dares start off light and fun but as the evening wares on and the stakes become higher, their friendship and the limits to which each will go to make quick cash are tested to the breaking point.

I was thoroughly impressed with this movie. It's exceptionally well acted with Healy, Embry and Koechner playing their respective roles brilliantly and I was on the edge of my seat the whole way.

9/10.

Darkest Hour - I wasn't really expecting to like this tbh (I was only checking it out for something a bit different to what I usually watch) but I actually did enjoy it and agree with the critics that it's technically a very well made Film. Gary Oldman and Stephen Dillane give really strong performances as Churchill and Halifax along with Ben Mendelsohn as King George VI. The acting was probably a high point throughout the Film tbh.

The Film obviously tries to portray Churchill as more loveable in the Film than I think he was supposed to be IRL, however I can handle that as audiences (myself included) does need to like the lead when watching a Film.

The only scene I'd have changed in the Film was the subway scene didn't really do anything for me.

Overall 8/10

It's SIGNIFICANTLY better than the first Frozen, and while I was skeptical about the first couple of songs, the "main" songs are brilliant. I found Olaf to be a weak link again, as I did in the first film, though I think that's to be expected as he clearly exists for the amusement of kids.

Logan (2017)

Filled with an emotional storyline, strong performances and high octane action, Logan is a masterpiece of a film. Hugh Jackman makes the most of his final outing as the savage mutant, turning in an incredible and unforgettable performance. Patrick Stewart was just as equally amazing as Charles Xavier, the founder and mentor of the X-Men. Stealing the show was Dafne Keen's X-23, a mysterious young girl and Wolverine's ''daughter''. It's such a shame there won't be sequel with her character.

10/10.

Knives Out was great :clap1: And I agree about Daniel Craig. At first, his accent was laughable but it grows on you throughout the film.

yep I didn't see the trailer and I thought he would have an English accent so it came as a shock!

I highly recommend everyone watches The Guilty on Netflix.

If you have seen Locke (and enjoyed it) then you will love this!

..The Joker...it was intense, relentless, disturbing, terrifying, mesmerising, gruelling, emotionally exhausting, deeply upsetting...Joaquin Phoenix was astoundingly good, it’s hard to think that someone could play a role like that...to be that character day after day etc...and not become emotionally exhausted by it...9/10, it’s a one off movie that I’ll never watch again...

...I was a little confused with some timelines, though...how was Bruce just a child and how was the Joker present when his parents were killed...none of that made any sense...?...was the whole entire thing from start to finish, just in his disturbed mind..?...

...oh also, spoiler 2...

...so did he kill his neighbour and her daughter..I’m assuming that he did..?......

To answer spoiler 1, I'm pretty sure that this film is not linked with the other Batman movies, etc. And instead, it's got its own timeline.

And for spoiler 2, I read an article confirming that he did not kill them. Someone posted it in this thread.

....thanks Babsy.....I’m still a bit confused about Bruce being so much younger and also that his parents were killed by someone in a clown mask, rather than by a mugger...I thought because so much of what was in his head was fantasy, maybe it was all fantasy.....obviously overthinking...

It's better to watch it on IMAX. You feel like you're in the movie. I'm such a massive Star wars fan.

It's brilliant. And I've never seen a performance like that. But then Joaquin Phoenix is amazing.
