A woman on her hen weekend gets bitten by a creature while swimming in a lake, the rest of the movie is her transformatin - think a female version of The Fly.
I tend to steer clear of these types of movies as gore I can deal with but wounds with puss dripping out of them makes me sick, this movie is all about that - the first time her bite ruptures it's pretty gross but watching her try and clean it and prod and poke the open sore had me heaving. Thankfully that stops pretty soon after when she has a breakdown and the insect takes over.
Watching the woman change personality was pretty dull and you can't really root for anyone because her fiancee is a cheat and her best friend is...not nice. Her other friend who tries to help is massively underused and I think the movie should have focused on her reaction after she found her friend feeding dead bodies to her 'babies' but the film is a mess really...These people all live in a giant apartment complex and at one point the land lord comes over to say other tenants are complaining about a smell...yet they haven't complained about the screaming of a woman changing into an insect?
The ending is pretty good but the movies pretty shabby sadly.

The last film I watched was:
Carry On Teacher (1959)
A funny edition of the Carry on film series. The cast gave out a good few laugh out loud moments. The best scene is when Mrs. Allcock's shorts rip. I love the suaveness of Leslie Phillips also (8/10)

You miss the point of the film, it was what happens when politicians decide to go to war, but won't trust the soldiers they send to fight and keep trying to interfere.

"Buried" starring Ryan Reynolds.
He's the only person in the movie physically, others are only voices on a phone.
In short, it's about a transport vehicle driver in Iraq who has been buried alive for ransom. All he has is a phone and a few other items.
Can't say much about how I felt about the movie itself without spoiling it... I would say it definitely is worth a watch but it's not light viewing :umm2:. On the "movie critic" side, it has a few messages that it is trying to sell, but it could have done so much more subtly and (therefore) more effectively... there are a few bits and pieces of bad writing that are far too "in your face" (i.e. most viewers will already have got the message, but they find convoluted ways to just outright state it anyway). The entire film pretty much is shot inside the box/coffin... it does make for quite uncomfortable viewing... in that sense, it's very well filmed and the effect they're going for (essentially the feeling that you're buried with him) works. Not one to watch if you're claustrophobic. Reynolds is also surprisingly decent in it, given that he's primarily a comedy actor and it's certainly not a humorous film...
7/10 - defs worth watching but don't spoiler it for yourself first. Would have rated it 8/10 if it wasn't for the occasional poorly written dialogue - I'd say there are only four or five "incidents" of it in the whole film but they do stand out / grate.

Went to watch Bridget Jones's Baby at the cinema with some people from my course.
I enjoyed. There was quite a bit of hype because my Mum said it was one of the best films she has watched (that shocked me), and so many people said it was good. I never expected it to live up to the other two, but the plot is really strong and a perfect arc to the 'Bridget Jones story'. Lots of funny moments too. Though I wish her friends from the first two films appeared more often throughout.
I kinda wish Jack was the parent to the baby. Because it would've fit nicely with what Bridget said about being open to all kinds of families, and having him as the father and Bridget with Mr. Darcy would've been a good ending. They could've went on to have another child, and they would've all still been happy with Jack still involved.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension - 2/10
I was a big fan of the Paranormal franchise. The first film brought back the genre after years of lazy remakes and gore. Whilst its sequel didn't quite live up to the first, it still provided chills and jumps. The third film bettered the second by changing the time frame and up-ing the scares.
The fourth film was a let down with nowhere new to go (although the ending was still decent), whilst The Marked Ones changed the setting which made for a more interesting installment in the franchise. I never really had high hopes for The Ghost Dimension, mainly because of the 3D camera gimmick and general loss of steam in previous sequels. Tonight I decided to give it a watch, and my fears were confirmed. Lazy, silly and filled to the brim woth shoddy effects, you'd be forgiven for thinking this had nothing to do with the first film released back in 2010. The "old camera which can pick up weird stuff" element was completely wasted with laughable CGI, whilst the acting was pretty lame at best. The whole point was not knowing what was haunting the families; doors opening on their own, noises in the night and unexplainable occurances are what made the first few films stand out. Instead, we've now got a camera from the 80s which can apparently pick up this entity, except it makes the demon out to look like some form of black, thick tar. The producers claimed to tie up loose ends, but what happened to Katie? Where did Hunter go? Why is every film aside from the third pretty much forgotten about? It gains a couple of points for the few jumps; the santa costume scene was pretty unnerving and there was the odd bang here and there. Aside from that, nothing.
It was sad to watch a series I once held in such high regard sink to new lows. Ah well, at least they aren't making any more.

...awww, I really enjoyed that movie and yes, Saoirse is delightful....I love stories about that 'small town' psychology thing and the stifling and the judgemental and the family commitments/pulls versus the need for a life beyond...I can't recall her name but I loved Julie Walter's character as well...

Saving Mr. Banks - You can never go too far wrong with Tom Hanks, very enjoyable, Emma Thompson played her part very well as well I thought 7.5/10
..A Hologram for the King...usually Tom Hanks is enough to make any movie a great watch but this just didn't quite work for me...it left me a bit flat like Eat, Pray, Love in it's journey of self discovery and didn't quite seem to hit the uplifting bit../I didn't feel the journey...Tom Hanks though and the soundtrack give it a 6-7/10-ish....

The Young Offenders - It's a film set in Cork (alot of it in Mayfield where I grew up). It's a story made up around the time that all those bails of cocaine were seized from a yacht and lots of them ended up in Cork waters and this story is about 2 15 year olds who set off to try and find a bail before the Police manage to collect them all. It was really funny 8/10

I've never seen the third but apparently if you don't count it as part of the Halloween series it's a pretty good movie. Yeah, me neither. I mean I'd watch a new one every year if they kept bringing them out so I'm being hypocritical but if they'd left Michael Myers at the end of the second one the series would be better received.
There's a new one coming out next year. But it should be good considering the guy who made the first movie is back to producing it.

Very weird and strange one this was. Has quite a bit of scares, which is good for a horror film. The second story didn´t really fit in the theme of the movie (4 our of 5 of the stories were supernatural themed) and felt it was more suitable for a different movie or could have been a whole new movie itself. Because it was in this movie, it was my least favorites of the stories.
..Prayers for Bobby...I watched this movie because of something in SD section recently and it was recommended on a link/vid on a topic there...it's heartbreakingly sad, Bobby's story..his love for his family and their religious beliefs disabling them from being able to accept who he was but it's also uplifting as well.../sad/beautiful/I would totally recommend......10/10...

Just watched Star Wars VII - loved it from start to finish. One of the few recent JJ Abrams projects that hasn't left me bored to tears  9/10 because I thought more could've been revealed about Finn, Rey & the gay fighter pilot
Day before, I watched Sicario. It was hugely unsatisfying from an empathetic point of view (really wanted Emily Blunt to shoot him at the end) (don't think that's a HUGE spoiler really, you'll only know who I mean if you see it) but Benicio Del Toro was great and it had that same compelling, dark, "oh god this is all horrible" vibe that Drive did. Before Wending Refn went a bit too crazy and pursued neon lights to accompany his gore fantasies in lack of plots. Supporting cast was great too, surprised to see Posh Kenneth in Hollywood. The entire night-vision sequence was some of the tensest film I've seen in a long time. Also 9/10.

mjKEXxO2KNE
A telling of the story of the investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the pilot who landed on the Hudson river in New York after a bird strike knocked out both engines in 2009.
8/10 -lost marks because it seemed to jump back and forth from the investigation to the forced water landing, so it did seem disjointed at times, but then I'm not Clint Eastwood who directed it, so what do I know?
You have to sit through the end credits, as the Easter egg were scenes of the real passengers of that flight and the real Captain Sullenberger.

Passengers - 6.5/10 - It's trying to be a bit like Titanic/Castaway but in space. The plotline is quite predictable. but the acting is okay, and it has some humorous moments. Also the addition of space visuals makes it a tad stunning. So yeah if you want something easy to watch that doesn't take too much concentration then this'll pass some time.
Circle - 9/10 - It's a film that makes you think, I enjoyed it. Watchable on Netflix.
Fifty people wake up in a darkened room, arranged in two concentric circles around a black dome. Noises sound when they attempt to move or touch the others. When someone ignores the warning and leaves formation, a beam from the dome kills them. As the others panic, a man attempts to calm them. In mid-sentence, he is killed by the device. Thereafter, every two minutes, another person is killed. After several people die, they realize they can vote for who dies. When nobody votes, one is selected randomly.

East is East:
I watched it due to the passing of Om Puri (though my favourite film that he stars in is The Parole Officer). I found it quite an appropriate film that commeorates his work as an actor.
The film makes me feel quite nostalgic because I remember my family watching it when I was a young boy. Back then I wasn't aware of the cultural/religious themes, but have watched a number of times since. It's so strange how you can watch films at certain points of your life and have it resonate with you so differently. I watched it two or three years prior to last night, but it felt like I was watching it with no preconceptions this time. Almost as if I hadn't watched it all.
The last time I watched it, I enjoyed it so much. I would've easily said it was one of the best films I've seen. This time I watched from a new perspective of because I found Puri's death quite sad. The more serious aspects of the film were much more harrowing (such as George's belligerence towards his family, his violent nature, etc). However, it is still such a fun film. The Mancunian and Pakistani cohesion is perfect (in addition to its setting in the 1970's), and the characters (mainly the Khan children) are so well-illustrated and distinct. Even though there's never really any development with them.
It's just such a clever idea that is well-executed, and also a progressive depiction to how ubiquitously multi-cultural the UK is.

"The Witch" (2015)
About a Puritan family centuries ago (probs like 1600s) that get banished from their village and have to live in the woods where there are witches.
Their goat called Black Phillip talks and turns out to be Satan and a baby is taken and killed to make body oil for an old witch. Really horrible scene where the mother imagines her baby and her oldest son (both killed by witches) come back to her and she starts breastfeeding the baby but in actuality it's a crow pecking and biting her breast, horrible.
In the end the daughter (everyone else is dead by this point) signs a deal with the goat/Satan and joins the coven of witches in the woods and floats into the sky.
SO STRANGE!! I think I'd have gotten more into it if I could understand them properly, they were talking like old English from centuries ago.
6/10.

Don't Breathe (2016)
"An old blind man is forced to guzzle a turkey baster full of his own cum"
That's the tagline we came up with when the film was finished. I'm not gonna lie... whilst watchable... the whole thing was pretty ****ing stupid. Unlikeable / unsympathetic characters all round, constantl doing stupid things... I'm at a loss as to how anyone watching is supposed to care what happens to any to them even a little bit?
It was an entertaining enough (by virtue of being just daft enough to be amusing) way to kill an hour and a half but generally a pretty bad film. I think we settled on around 5.6/10.
It gets 7.2 on IMDB and I really have no idea how.

I enjoyed Don't Breathe. It was fun, suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat. The only gripe I'd say was that it should've ended about ten minutes sooner as that whole car scene with the dog attack and returning to the house was unnecessary.

Watched a couple whilst staying in a hotel last week, plus one last night:
The Wolf of Wall Street - I'd downloaded it when it first leaked but the 3 hour running time just kept motivating me to say "...some other time..." I wish I'd seen it sooner. Obviously heavily influenced by Goodfellas and I've not been a huge fan of some of Scorsese's films inbetween the two (I'm probably the only one who really didn't care about The Departed at all), it's a very funny, shocking, disgusting movie that plays out thrillingly. Yeah, there were too many F-bombs and the characters were appalling and you walk out wondering just how Jordan Belfort hasn't killed himself out of shame, but it's surprising. Didn't have Margot Robbie down as a great actress - saw her as another Hollywood starlet hired mostly for looks than anything else - but she brought a good (not amazing) deal of heart to the movie. 9/10.
The Imitation Game - also on Film4 last week. I didn't expect a lot from it because I'm of the internet folk that find Benedict Cumberbatch's hype a little bizarre (Sherlock is good but nothing more), but he was great in this. Pacing was pretty good, plenty of intrigue and the story was compelling, and Keira Knightley was surprisingly great as well. Only thing I would say is that whilst the gay element was moving, I do wonder how realistic the "sham marriage" proposal was. Which I could probably just google now but I'm typing on TiBB innit. 8/10
Sully - I can't really fault it in terms of the story, the direction and the acting, I guess... but it just felt like it was really paper-thin (and only 96 minutes, IIRC, which didn't help) and whilst the action sequences were breathtaking, the human element (which ironically the emotional thrust of the film kept underlining the importance of) just really didn't move me in any way. Hanks is obviously brilliant, but I felt more empathy towards Eckhart's first captain than him... what was told onscreen of Sully himself was too brief and uninteresting. Good cast, fine action, but didn't grab me. 6 or 7/10.

Yeah I remember you and Marc talking about it during the Halloween Countdown I think. But yeah I loved it. It's one of those films that stays with you for a while after watching and the fact it's so realistic and can easily happen to you is why it's so effective. I love horror films like that.
And yeah I'm glad they didn't go down the happy ending route, it's an original ending and it makes it all the more scarier that the kids pretty much got away with it.

Moonlight.
Idk... I'd still give it a 9/10 because of how well it was made, the acting, the storyline, the themes touched upon... but it felt a bit rushed? There didn't seem to be a lot of events played out on screen, it relied a bit too heavily on us to just fill in the gaps between the three chapters ourselves. And whilst I love the cast, I can't quite work out what of Mahershala Ali's performance was long or emotive enough to deserve the acting nominations over, say, Ashton Sanders or Jharrel Jerome (I felt the teenage segment of the film was the strongest)
And I really felt a bit blase about the ending. A lot of tension but not much else to those scenes.
But yes this is a lot of negative writing about a film I otherwise quite enjoyed. Can just see quite easily why it's not going to win Oscars.
Ronald.

It's a really bleak and uncomfortable watch but yeah, it's filmed so well that it's basically like a "buried alive simulator" I thought :joker:.

Paterson - Huge Adam Driver fan so I definitely liked it, not a lot going on and most people would probably hate it but it was good escapism for a couple of hours even if nothing really happens. Basically a bus driver in a small US town writing poetry. Quite funny. 8/10
Silence - A bit hit and miss. Really really good cinematography and really good acting performance from Andrew Garfield, but it goes on a bit too long and the story is a bit hit and miss. Felt like falling asleep at a few parts but to be fair to it it drags you back in and you start to enjoy it again. If you go to the to enjoy and laugh at a film I'd say it isn't for you.. 8/10
Manchester by the Sea, should win its awards at the oscars, especially Affleck who is amazing, but probably won't because of all the court cases and stuff. The supporting actor is great too but probably doesn't stand a chance of winning anything. Heartbreaking but still very funny. Nice shots of America too, the less glamorous parts you don't often get to see.. 10/10

Ghostbusters (2016 one)
Haven't seen the original in a long time but obviously this relied a lot on it... the cameos were unexpected (hadn't heard anything about those appearing) and nicely worked in. And whilst I have a varying degree of love for the 4 actresses involved (McKinnon > Wiig > Jones > McCarthy) it's um... let's say Feig peaked with his first film (Bridesmaids). Too many asides - muttered comments that're written by people who like puns and tweets and one-liners rather than actors being able to deliver memorable comedy.
CGI and action and all of that stuff was great, and it was an enjoyable movie, and obviously I'm going to defend it against the hordes of angry misogynists online, but yeah it's not a memorable one. I'd give it a 5 or a 6.

Ugh it was so good.
BIB: The part where he loses hope of ever getting out and records a will and testament to his family. </3
What a tense, uncomfortable film it was, they captured the feeling so perfectly, it sounds like a terrible idea for a film but they got it so spot on
Him not getting out though :bawling:
I agree. Being buried alive is one of my biggest fears and this film captured the realism of it. I'd honestly rather be burnt alive.

Suicide Squad.
Part of me wants to just write "loud, stupid garbage" but...well that would be flippant.
I wanted to like it. I love the DC universe. But the current studios and production are driving it into the ground and it's upsetting to watch. I'm not getting into the whole Marvel vs. DC debate because it's tedious and obstructive of a pretty simple question: "are the movies good?" Man of Steel was not, and this was not. (I haven't seen Batman vs. Superman)
I also liked Zack Snyder's Watchmen... but it stayed pretty loyal to a standalone comic series that was hyper-stylish, had a gorgeous setting and was reasonably well-acted by a group of actors that weren't too distracting. Everything else of his I've seen is pretty nonsense.
A list of terrible things about this movie.
- The soundtrack. Songs pop up out of nowhere at the most inopportune moments and turn the whole thing into a 15 year old's media project entitled "Why Comics Are Awesome!" Any tension, action or driven plot suffers from a 80% chance of being interrupted by unnecessary budget expenses. I'm sure Queen and whoever's surviving of the Animals aren't complaining though.
- Cara Delevigne (sp?) Girl can't act. She's everywhere. Why? She's awful. She plays perhaps the most interesting character of this entire movie with a year 6 nativity level of command.
- Pencil thin characterisations. If you're going to introduce everyone in a roster like some done-to-death heist setup, chances are no one's really going to care about them. I mean... would anyone have missed Boomerang, Killer Croc, the fire guy or Katana from this?
- Broad characterisations as well. Think I lost track of the number of "esé"s used in whatever dialogue there was with Diablo. Jokes made about Katana may as well have gone "ching ching chong", they were that tasteless. And having Margot Robbie go "...what?" after pulling on the shortest shorts imaginable as a cheeky "haha wouldn't it be awful if we all just gawked at her ass" wink from the writers isn't the most convincing deterrent from this being quite obviously "comic guys being as sleazy and wanky as is expected".
- Jared Leto. The Joker was always going to be impossible to follow after Ledger but oh god this was as subtle as a brick. He was neither menacing enough to incite fear nor engaging enough to boast unpredictability. I'm still having trouble getting over the idea to have the words "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA" all over his walls, tattooed on his skin... who the **** comes up with this?
- Slow-mo. That end sequence with everyone finally taking witch-lady down took forever. I can't recall a single scene where I was blown away by the choreography of the fights.
- Nonsense plot points. Waller shooting her entire staff felt tacked-on to hammer home some point about "there are no good guys really!!!" Witches and sun-gods being vulnerable to a minor bomb. Harley Quinn and Boomerang being at all remotely useful in this team. Flag falling in love with poor Moore lady over a timeline that must've been three weeks. Moore thinking "let's snap the head off this artifact" in that cave. Deadshot's daughter thinking "let's separate daddy and Batman". Diablo just happening to be as large and powerful as the Incubus guy. I'm sure there's 20 more.
A list of things I enjoyed about this movie.
- Will Smith, Viola Davis, Margot Robbie. They all brought it.
- General theme of the Enchantress, not a character I was aware of before and a rather fresh (ish?) one. The asphalt-looking mess left behind by her and her brother's odd little propulsions was quite gruesome and spectacular to look at.
- Special effects were neat I guess?
Overall... it's hard to score this anything above a 4. I'd give it a 3.

Oh boy that dragged on. Pretty great though. 8/10 because there's something about Andrew Garfield I can't quite picture as a Portuguese priest. Amazing cinematography and the cincadas throughout had me rather uncomfortable even when I got a bit bored. I really liked it, I liked how unlike most biopics it isn't reverent towards it's subject. We see Jackie Kennedy as a strong and capable person but also as a sometimes awkward and often abrasive person who wants to mean well but is also quite selfish and perhaps even a bit self absorbed and it made her far more compelling for it.
I'll be shocked if Natalie Portman doesn't get the oscar, it's pretty much the best performance of her career.

Margot Robbie's a funny one for me. I thought she went from one extreme to the other.

Just watched Hidden Figures. I had this down as a bit of an award-fisher film... ie. not that brilliant but of the right political sensibility. But it really wowed me... might be my favourite of the (admittedly) few I've seen so far up for the top prizes.
Only faults I found with it were petty ones: I didn't think Pharrell curated a particularly good soundtrack and it came across as a vanity project for a man who hasn't released anything good in over five years (I enjoyed the classic songs a heck of a lot more). And also... please don't make me watch anything with Jim Parsons in it. At least now I can add "reminds me of a racist" to my list of reasons why I loathe The Big Bang Theory.
But the positives were endless... Janelle and Taraji in particular were brilliant (I liked Octavia too, but felt her character and screentime was a little undercooked... no biggie though). The scenes with Katherine's proposal at dinner, Mary's speech to try and get into West Virginia, Katherine putting her girls to bed had me a bit emotional. The depiction of Glenn's orbit was tense (also Glen Powell is a bit...:flutter:). Kirsten Dunst played the ignorance and stubbornness brilliantly too, I felt, and of course Kevin Costner and Mahershala Ali's characters were lovely in their own ways.
I'd give the film a fairly solid 9... I haven't seen many of its contenders but it's definitely a great film. Good mix of humour, drama, suspense and pathos.
The Room - It was really good. Everyone in the room was holding the breath when he stood up in the back of the truck, it kinda dragged a bit afterwards though
I'm guessing you mean Room because 'The Room' is a very different film indeed
C-IvV8thrO4
T2 - Loved it, although I've seen a lot of people saying it was amazing, as good as the first etc, I don't want to be a killjoy but I still think the first film was amazing, this 2nd one was really good yes but not on par with the first imho and I also much prefer the first soundtrack.
The part at the end when Renton starts playing the remix of iggy pop and dances is a great addition though

Didn't realise John Hurt was in it, for him to be so contemplative of death in it, as he is, came as a bit of a sad surprise. Portman's portrayal was brilliant and probably deserving of the Oscar but then I haven't seen any of the other 4 contenders yet (I don't think). It did feel like more of a made-for-TV film, though... I went to see Split last night.
James McAvoy stole the show with his performance and the way he was able to move so effortlessly between Kevin's various personalities. I can't fault any of the acting in this at all, Betty Buckley was also fantastic as were the three girls. The film wasn't really what I was expecting after having seen the trailer (I was expecting it to play out more like 10 Cloverfield Lane) but meh I still enjoyed it, although it could've been more suspenseful. I found myself laughing more than actually feeling scared as did my friends and most of the people at the theatre, especially any scene featuring Hedwig. I do wish we got to see more of Kevin's 23 personalities though as I felt they dwelled on that too much only to end up showing us about five of them. It left me wondering what the others were like? Hedwig was hilarious and I thought he worked well because it made the sudden personality switches to Patricia and Dennis all the more unsettling. Aside from Hedwig, I also liked Patricia and Barry, both of whom were VERY intriguing.
I don't know how to feel about the ending though with
The Beast and giving him superhuman strength and speed. It felt kinda out of place and far-fetched to me and something you'd see in a Superhero movie. But then I've heard the film (and the ending with Bruce Willis) ties in with M Night's other film, Unbreakable, which Split is supposedly a sequel to so I definitely need to check that out.

La La Land
Quite lovely tbh. Didn't expect much from it - especially after the opening which made Enchanted look like American History X. But it got a lot more charming and warm and infectious, some of the music was wonderful (although I found Gosling's character a pretentious arse. There was nothing wrong with that song by John Legend's band), and the two leads were pretty nice... I wouldn't give either of them the Leading Oscars though. It'd essentially be an award for learning the most talents - tapdancing, piano, etc - rather than a particular acting performance. Both have been eclipsed by Mortensen/Washington and Portman from the films I've seen.
But it was a really good film and one that I'd happily see again. 9/10. Director's on a great streak atm going from Whiplash to this.

Law Abiding Citizen (2009)
9/10 > great film with twist & turns, the critics are STUPID
Hall Pass (2011)
9/10 > couldn't help but laugh pretty much all the way through
The International (2009)
8/10 > great thriller with Clive Owen (get him mixed up with Gerald Butler for some reason)
She’s Funny That Way (2014)
8/10 > Jennifer Aniston deliver the laughs whilst Imogen Poots accent irritates
Vice (2015)
7/10 > quite good for straight to DVD
Minions (2015)
7/10 > amusing & entertaining better than Despicable Me 2 anyway

Went to see la la land with the family . Was very good . Wife didn't like the ending bit i think that's because she didn't understand the point of the film . Daughter loved the songs and I thought both the man and woman were good. Was a nostalgic nod to the old films I remember and love. How they used to break out into song and dance for no reason - that's what used to happen ! Loved it ! Gaga for lala land ! R.

T2: Trainspotting
A really nice sequel, but not as a good as the first - obviously. It was good to see how the characters had developed, and they wereportrayed and written quite well.
The Scottish culture is embedded in my small town so there were some really nice moments that made me somewhat emotional and nostalgic. Really fitting ending too, though the plot itself wasn't exactly strong.
I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.

Nocturnal Animals
Somewhere between good and decent? Idk I feel I would've enjoyed the movie more if it were just about the novel within the film. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Michael Shannon were the best parts about it - which is odd since I love Amy Adams (didn't really buy into her as the stone-cold art dealer type). The cast was full of surprises actually - Vod from Fresh Meat popping up as a friend of hers  Laura Linney did a fine debutante routine. Michael Sheen was barely on-screen.
But enough of that - it was a good film within a kinda shallow and boring one. I'd give it a 7 or an 8 on a good day.

The Girl with all the Gifts. Yet another take on zombies... and a really good one. Great British-made film with an original story starring Gemma Arterton, Paddy Considine, Glenn Close and 13 year old Sennia Nanua, who was bloody brilliant. I highly recommend.
9/10

The Pledge - It's an older one but I hadn't seen it before. It was good but left me feeling unsatisfied which was probably the point but still. 7/10
It was a bit far fetched to believe that the serial child rapist/killer that Gerry was obsessed with finding happened to choose Chrissy as his next target, of all the blonde 7-10 year olds in the area

Lion - This is really good! Great acting with some really beautiful moments. Teared up a bit towards the end and that never happens to me (cos I'm a hard lad yeah)
Then because my boyfriend was was convinced was the actor playing Saroo in Lion was Shia Lebouf (?!?!?!?!?!) We ended up watching...
Slumdog Millionaire - This is possibly the most overrated film I've ever seen. The first half with the young kids is great, but then it just drones on with "he see's the girl! oh no they're separated again! but wait, he sees her again!" The characters are depthless and the acting is gormless. The cinematography is nice but nothing to write home about. Just an overall MEH of a film.

28 Weeks is more actioned pack for sure, but 28 Days is way more scary as it actually seems realistic. That scene of a completely empty street (whatever street it is in London) is so chilling. However, the opening of 28 Weeks is one of my favourites and will always be remembered.

It's not that I don't like the sequel, 28 Weeks is a great Zombie movie, but IMO 28 Days Later is just a great movie, full stop, of any genre.

Speaking of 28 Days Later though, has anyone else seen the alternative / "chicken" ending? :joker:
Basically the same things happen up until Jim is shot and they rush him to the hospital in the city. In the released ending, they manage to save him and all three of them are at the countryside cottage when the plane flies over. In the alternative, they don't manage to save Jim (probably more realistic tbh...) and they leave him there at the hospital, and still go to the country cottage... the same scene follows with Selena sewing the sheets together for the "Hello" sign for the plane, and she's chatting just as in the released ending where she's talking to Jim... but then the camera moves round and it's... a chicken. :joker: I like to think they named it "Jim".

31 (2016) - 5/10
I haven't seen many social-media inspired horror films but I really enjoyed Unfriended. 31 was average, it wasn't really what I was expecting and it felt like a series of short films put together rather than an actual film.

The Mummy Returns (2001)
8/10 > despite it's faults with the CGI (Scorpion King ) also thought a few details were a bit sloppy like the book of the dead is open but they needed a key before & how did Anck Su Namun get resurrected? it's a worthy follow up
The Mummy 3: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor (2008)
7/10 > first of all they replaced Rachel Wiesz with Maria Bello & it wasn't set in Egypt, but I waited 7 years for this? just feel a bit meh compared to the first two

Loving
Pretty much found all of it great...except... and it's kind of a big problem... I didn't think Joel Edgerton was good. Whilst both of the leads carried off the Lovings' quiet humility and pride to an extent, I felt that Edgerton was too...evasive of the camera filming him in addition to the one in the story. His pauses and shyness were obvious but also didn't have much clarity or "there"ness. On the complete opposite of the scale was Ruth Negga, whose silence spoke loudly. Hers was one of the best understated performances I've seen in a long time. Also found Nick Kroll a good surprise, bit odd seeing Liz G from PubLizity lobbying the Supreme Court. And Michael Shannon was brilliant as ever.
I'd give it an 8/10 because I'm not sure it'll go down as a classic and the lead actor's role was too important to leave wanting more, but otherwise I enjoyed it a lot.
Jason.

Inside (2007) - 7.5/10
Really enjoyed this one. One of the better films of the New wave of French horror and a great home invasion film. Brutally gory but it's realistic and doesn't take away from it at all. Plus I love how the villain is a woman going after another woman as opposed to it being a man like it usually is in these type of films.
