It’s brilliant Vanessa. Really charming and funny movie. Beautiful to look at too, as always fantastic cinematography from PTA. Pure 1970’s soaked in California Sunshine. I can’t wait to see it again.
The two leads are revelations too considering they’ve never acted before, particularly Alana Haim.
It’s a bit all over the place in layout but it just works. If you like movies like Dazed and Confused or American Graffiti you’ll like this - just hanging out with the characters in different scenarios.
Bradley Cooper is hilarious in it as are Sean Penn, Harriet Sansom Harris and Tom Waits (all making short but memorable appearances).

He is indeed. There’s moments where he’s just like his Dad too (mannerisms, certain looks).
There’s loads of other famous peoples relatives in it too - Spielberg’s daughter, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Dad, PTA and Maya Rudolph’s (she’s in it too) kids, the WHOLE Haim family etc.

The Batman
Omg this was absolutely brilliant, I loved it!
The acting was great and there's an especially chilling turn from Paul Dano as The Riddler. He was fantastic and if they do a sequel I want to see more of him.
Robert Pattinson for me is the perfect Batman. We haven't had one as good since Michael Keaton played him.

They're both great films in different ways... in a modern context one major thing that separates them though is that T2 used cutting-edge effects that still (for the mostpart) pass even 30 years later... it's still an amazing looking film. I love the STYLE of the first Terminator film but the 80's effects are, unfortunately, just terrible.

The cinematography of that film is just next level. Beautiful movie to look at.
Paul Thomas Anderson really has been overlooked so much in his career as a creative genius in his field. Such an incredibly versatile filmography full of range and real expertise yet no "big awards".
Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love, There Will Be Blood, The Master, Phantom Thread and Licorice Pizza are all just... *chef's kiss*
Even the two of his I like least - Hard Eight and Inherent Vice - are still VERY good movies.

I'm gripped so far, paused as he begins to write down his feelings in the note pad he was showing her. Cause she turned her back on him while he was reading them to her....hmmm..what would you be writing??
I think the outcome is going to be.....
She realises she would have been a great mother, because of how the 2 lesbians kids see her. Therefore, there is going to be trauma at the end because of the regret she feels for aborting.

I watched Dune last night and I've got to say that I really don't understand the modern American taste when it comes to Movies & TV.
They like joyless dirges with a very basic story, and I honestly don't get why it seems to be an American trend at the moment to have beige characters, it's almost like they're so scared of offending people that they create the most MOR **** imaginable.
Whatever happened to the days of Saw 1 & The Matrix? actual creative Films that were fun to watch.
Jesus Christ Hollywood learn to let loose a little bit.
Overall I'll give the Film a 4/10 for good acting, and some decent background Music being the positives for me.

Dune is not a modern story and without giving too much away, the books cover millennia.
It's not a happy story if thats what you mean, but it's not walt disney
I'm gonna guess that the Books do a better job at making the world more interesting?
I've finally gotten around to watching The Batman which I enjoyed a lot more than I was expecting given Hollywood's current form at the moment.
Although they are fairing better for me in Movies than their TV Shows at the moment, so I probably shouldn't be too surprised.
The Riddler gave a great performance, and tbf Robert Pattinson did a good job too tbf, especially as the Film went along he started to feel more natural in the role, the same for the new Catwoman & Gordon.

Went to see Doc Strange yesterday - I really enjoyed it, but it's yet another M|CU film that's going to make very little sense to anyone who isn't following all the films and shows :joker:. Also I'd say it's the first one where you not only need to have been following the other movies, but also the Disney+ content ... ... ... you need to have seen WandaVision . (Movies-wise it's actually not too bad - you could get away with just Doc Strange 1 and Infinity War/Endgame as "essentials", Age of Ultron as a highly recommended suggestion.)

To be fair, "poor" is all quite relative, I grew up in a very middle-middle household, we had a nice detached house, no money issues etc. but I remember at one point at Uni being sat with a few people in Halls who had been to private school/had spent the summer touring Africa or teaching kids how to sail in Dubia or whatever, and I felt like a ****ing pauper :joker:

I've watched The Silence Of The Lambs for the first time yesterday.
It's a well made Film, and Hannibal & Buffalo Bill delivered some fun but disturbing performances.
Is it gonna go down as one of my favourite Films of all time? No.
However it's a Film that anyone who appreciates a well told story should respect at the very least, especially considering nowadays it can be hard to find fiction with any plot at all, it's shocking that a Film from 1991 has more plot than some Films & TV Shows in the 2010's and now.
Overall I'd score the Film a 7.5/10 for my own personal enjoyment.

Entertainment Tonight asked McGillis way back in 2019 if the makers of Top Gun: Maverick had asked her to be in the film. “Oh my god no. They did not, nor do I think they would ever,” she replied, almost laughing at the idea. “I mean, I’m old and I’m fat, and I look age-appropriate for what my age is, and that is not what that whole scene is about.”

I actually didn't mind it for what it was. Couple of comedic moments too. It was absurdly over the top, but i think that was the point.

In fairness to it, taking it purely on it's own merits I actually think it's mostly an okay Film, it's never gonna be a classic for my personal taste, but it's a lot better than I had envisioned it to be.
Admittedly the Film does have some kooky elements though that even for the genre I didn't see coming.
For example Edward's body glistening in the sunlight.

365 Days - I honestly tried to be open minded to the Film, but I couldn't complete the Film as it made me feel uneasy at how it tried to romanticize Stockholm Syndrome.
Don't get me wrong they cast attractive people for the role (which is essential for these kinds of stories) but I still think that the Film should've at least acknowledged that what he was doing to her was an evil thing to do.
For me it's a 1/10 Film, never have I felt so uncomfortable at watching a Movie.

Blade - I really enjoyed the Japanese Anime version of this franchise, but I personally loved the Movie even more.
Wesley Snipes did a great performance as Blade imo, and I actually didn't mind Karen as the leading lady as she was actually capable mentally, and actually contributed to the main plot.
Whistler is a really good character as well, I don't want to spoil anything there though.
And my biggest improvement was Deacon Frost, I liked him in the Anime, but the Movie gave him much more focus and Stephen Dorff brought a lot of charisma to the role imo, but with such a great first name who can be shocked?:hehe:
Obviously it's a Film from 1998 so it's not gonna look as fancy as modern Films, but I still recommend this to anyone that likes Action, Horror, Fantasy, or Superhero stuff.
I also loved some of the dialogue, it was edgy sounding without coming across too unlikable imo.

What a mess of a movie  , Michael Myers is barely in it . And it's mostly about a young guy called Corey, who tries to be a carbon copy Michael. I did not understand the direction of this movie, so much didn't make sense. It was very slow paced. Just dragged out.
From a misplaced 80s romance to a oddball killing duo,erm Michael works alone usually though :conf:,to Michael living in the sewers like another pennywise wtf LOL.
To inconsistencies with Michael's strength & weaknesses in his body . So much random padding with Laurie and her old flame, the final showdown is literally the last 10 minutes of the movie.
I'm glad it had a good closure of an ending..... especially with the town's people, but was a strange movie overall and felt less like a Halloween Movie, however slightly better than 'Halloween Kills' . As that movie was awful & utter garbage.

Without seeing the Film I will defend it on one thing and that's about the final showdown.
Because from my memory of the first Halloween Movie from the 70's, I remember that being a slugfest until about the last 10 minutes when the final showdown happens.
Basically Halloween Ends is probably paying homage to where it all began for the franchise.

Black Adam (2022)
great film, felt like a superhero movie meets the mummy for me
the Justice Society felt like ''X-Men'' to me, loved Pierce Brosnan's role too as Dr Fate, great we saw the Amanda Waller character too again, since suicide squad, loved the henry cavill superman cameo and am already excited for the sequel now with that cliffhanger mid credits ending
9.5

I cancelled Disney+ so I watched Prey, the Predator prequel. It was alright, but not as good as people were saying really.
This scene from the original Predator is unmatched.

I also watched The Incredibles 2 which was pretty good, but not as good as I remember the original being.
Banshees of Inisherin
Has anyone else seen this yet? One of the best new films I've seen in years - loved the story, the dialogue, the setting. It's one of those films which is very simple and very deep at the same time

Avatar 2. Way of water.
Wow absolutely incredible. An easy 10/10 for me and I don't usually like the big blockbusters.
But James Cameron is such a a brilliant director!

Detective Pikachu - It was a bit boring tbh.
Don't get me wrong there were a couple of funny scenes here or there, and overall there are worse Films out there.
For me though as a fan of the Pokemon Games in particular, I do feel like the overall tone and style of Pokemon wasn't really there away from names of Pokemon and locations.
In particular the most jarring thing for me is the Daddy issues in the Film, Pokemon isn't exactly a series renowned for Family Drama, especially of the American kind, so to me it's not something that I'm expecting in the Film.
The Romance was also really horrible in the Film for me, it's just really irritating to watch them interact with each other.
And my final complaint and probably my most harsh complaint, is that it's claiming to be a Film based off of the Pokemon franchise, yet there's hardly any battles or a fight to win the Championship, i.e classic Pokemon stuff that's a core element of the series identity.
Overall I'm gonna score the Film a 4/10
Glass onion, great movie 8/10

I did watch this a few weeks ago, really enjoyed it too. It was so off the wall but also made you understand how depressed and frustrated all these people were.It felt like an exaggeration of how people behave when depressed? Very funny in a lot of parts too. I love Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell together as well 9/10
Avatar - The way of water - Went to the cinema last night to see this in 3D (I feel like you really have to watch these films in 3D to get the full benefit/experience) I loved it as much as the first (don't understand why some people hated these films so much) They managed to mix it up a lot with the visuals this time as well instead of a rehash of the forest world by changing it to the island location. It's a long film but it flew, I was really immersed in the world 9/10

Does the Avatar sequel have an interesting story this time.
Because to me I've never understood the point of fiction where the plot is more basic than an episode of Phineas & Ferb.

I’m so glad to hear that !!
I liked the early part of Avatar but LOVED it when the story actually got going in the Avatar world ..
We’ve been on the Avatar ride at Disney and it is absolutely amazing ( especially if you’ve seen the movie)- just imagine the motion / wind you get in the ride .

I think I was mentioning to you before that the west coast down to the South of Ireland is really beautiful, those Islands that The Banshees of Inisherin was filmed on are off Galway & Clare in the west, they're well worth a visit

I finally got around to watching Elvis.
Overall I really enjoyed it but it was "typical Luhrmann" - erratic, colourful, kind of all over the place. The early part where it covered Elvis' early career felt a bit rushed and manic (felt a bit like they were just acting out his Wikipedia) but I feel like the second half of the film (arrest - Christmas special - Vegas) is where the good stuff is.
Austin Butler was crazy good as The King.
