..The Internship, because it was on TV...I love Owen and Vince but couldn't get into the movie, so a 5-ish/10...
I love this movie :amazed:
It has a great message behind it.
I watched Zoolander, it was great watching my daughter cringe behind a cushion
7.5/10
Watched The Internship last night, I know this movies got terrible reviews but I really liked it  I'd give it a 7.5/10

Goosebumps
I really enjoyed it, reminded me of when I was about 7 or 8 and I used to watch the show at 7PM on Nickelodeon before bed
7/10
..Brooklyn...a nice easy movie, I liked it a lot..that pull between family commitment/love and the claustrophobia of small town/type environment and wanting to be part of the big 'new world'...and Saoirse Ronan is just gorgeous and delightful in everything she's in.....I reckon an 8/10...

It was a great watch, very interesting and gave realistic insight into what it's like for people in that situation. The kid who played Jack deserved his award, magnificent acting from such a young child.

Sicario - 9/10 - Probably my favourite film so far that is in the award race (and 5th favourite of the year overall), Benecio Del Toro with a brilliant performance and really should be nominated for supporting actor.. Almost as robbed as the kid from Beasts of No Nation. Josh Brolin & Jon Bernthal were good too, and Emily Blunt was solid but her character was pretty annoying. Cinematography is incredible as well.
..Blind Side again/a lovely movie and I adore Sandra Bullock....
..Room...sad, harrowing, tense, emotional, heart-breaking ..beautiful...9/10...

Legend.. Although I hate the glamorisation of the Krays, it's a really good film and Tom Hardy is tremendous in it :)

This afternoon I ended up watching one of the greatest CGI Films in the history of animation, Toy Story. My favourite character has to be the tall green dinosaur Rex because he's scared of everything and is dumb. Also he is voiced by one of my favourite actors Wallace Shawn (the guy who played the lunatic that drunk the poison in The Princess Bride)..
For the time the CGI was sensational seeing as the film was released in 1995 and took probably a long time to create it as technology was starting to get better at the time. One of my all time favourite films.
Rating: 8.5/10

Spotlight - 8/10
Quite shocking really. I think everyone hears the jokes about Priests and the Church and stuff being pedophiles but I didn't have any idea the extent of it. Roughly 6% of all Priest's messing with kids, that's absolutely insane. They show a list in the end credits of all the different cities they've had reports from and it goes on and on, takes up a good 4 or 5 screens (and includes places in the UK). As for the film itself, Mark Ruffalo and Michael Keaton are both brilliant in their roles, and I think this story really did need to be brought to a wider audience. Good chance at winning Best Picture...
..Spotlight is the next movie on my watch list, Locke...
..Joy...a stunning Jennifer Lawrence.... and really enjoyable movie with the usual dysfunctional/type family who actually function beautifully together...8/10...

I had been looking forward to seeing this, it had quite a nice reputation for being hyper gory with a good kill count and when it was shown in festivals it went into the top 100 horror movies on IMDb.
5 friends stumble out of a swamp covered in dirt and blood, they are in shock and missing two of their friends...They run into a house near by and take shelter, one decides to leave and get help and he manages to get to a town within 10 minutes of leaving the house (which begs the reason why they all didn't head for the town) the rest are left to defend the house against their assailants...yet they sit in the living room next to an open window and complain it's cold.
One decides she needs a shower and after a 5 minutes scene of her preening in the mirror moaning slightly and touching her boobs I resigned myself that this was going to be a soft core porn with blood. She hears crashing downstairs and looks out the bathroom window to see two of her friends being dragged out into the swamp by men with white mud covering their skin and the guy is set on fire while the girl manages to escape (the mud men rip off her top) and run away.
The guy who escaped earlier is now in a bar chatting up a woman who decides she wants to wear her friends top so they decide to exchange and giggle over a montage of them touching each other's boobs. I literally need to turn this off but mehhh I'm mildly intrigued.
Back at the house shower girl has showed her boobs so she's killed and surprisingly it's well executed and I am back to thinking it could be ok...another girl in killed while nude, then another is dies getting changed...and then a girl back at the bar decides to use the bathroom to change her underwear (she has about 5 sets of underwear in her handbag :umm2:)
The escapee guy remembers his friends (all but one are dead by now) and he takes 2 new people with him and underwear girl to help them. The sole house survivor kills two mud men and sort of becomes the only likeable person in the movie, the new people show up and underwear girl is killed but takes out 3 mud men with her and the remaining 3 find the survivor and idk why but they go back inside the house...the mud men attack the house and survivor girl runs upstairs and well that's the last we see of her (seriously)
The last 3 decide to run for it in the swamp but get attacked, after the useless 2 bar helpers get knocked out the guy who forgot his friends and the king of the muddies fight, the mud guy is killed and the 3 people escape...that's it
Awful movie and during the credits I find that Playboy funded the movie and half the actresses are from Playboy...stands to reason, every single female in the movie got naked bar the Indian girl who endures racial insults throughout from her friend (he orders her curry at the bar ordering drinks and mimics her voice twice)
3/10
Avoid unless you want endless boobs and people you don't care about being killed off screen

Ted. It was hilarious and I love Mark Wahlberg :laugh3::lovedup: 8/10
..Spotlight...a tremendous cast..most of us would only be able to imagine what it would feel like to be a victim so very powerful to see some portrayed on the screen...it was am absorbing movie but I kept thinking how different the image of the media we know, as being anything but fine people like those reporters and their devotion to exposing the wrongs and an ultimate betrayal of trust ...probably 8/10 I think...

Have you not seen Parks and Recreation? He's in that from the beginning and at one point between two seasons ( I think 5 and 6) he's still chubbs at the end of one, then at the start of the next he's easily 50lbs lighter. I think it would be when he was filming Guardians of the Galaxy. But, in the show only a month is supposed to have passed between episodes... :joker:

See, that's not what annoyed me (as that's sort of what Deadpool is known for), the one liners were good - the problem was that at least 1/3 of them (and most of the best ones) were used in the trailer, so everyone who has seen the trailer knows they're coming :/.
But overdone trailers that spoil whole movies are a bit of a pet peeve for me. I'd avoid them but I go to the cinema semi-regularly and they're hard to ignore on a 20ft high screen...

Compliance - Wow what a crap movie! One of the worst films ever, so much so that i decided to do my ironing whilst it was on so my time wouldn't be wasted! I would give it a big fat 0/10, but if i have to give it any rating it would get a 1/10 just because it got me doing my ironing and i hate ironing.
I think what got me so pissed with this film is that are there really people this 'compliant' so as to not challenge authority? It may be because i naturally challenge authority if i disagree with it, and maybe it's because i most definitely know my rights, but then i thought common sense would prevail, but it didn't....but hey ho at least i got some ironing done!

It is almost word for word the infamous Louise Ogborn case (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strip_search_phone_call_scam) right down to the last scene when the manager is asked a question and an off screen lawyer tells her not to answer it. (That was in a documentary about the real case)
The manager involved when asked why she did not realise it was a hoax replied that that the person asking did not get that phone call
While you are at it, google Stamford Prison Experiment and the Milgram Experiment (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment)
If you think this film was unrealistic, think again, and read the links, it happened, and I believe every manager of a fast food restaurant needs to see that film

I just can't believe anyone could be that stupid as to not say to the caller that they need a warrant and to take her to a police station for questioning, no one has the authority to act under the authority of a police officer, if i were the girl i'd ask for my phone call to my lawyer.
I don't deny it happened, it's just incredulous to me that people can be that taken in, and thanks for the link i will check it out :wavey:

Louise came from a military family if I recall, and she was brought up to always do what a police officer tells you to do.
As for being taken in, as I said in my previous post you need to study the Milgram Experiment (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment) which showed that ordinary people deferred to authority and ended up doing unspeakable things.
Most people in spite of what they say end up deferring to authority, that was the findings of the Milgram experiment. Only a few people questioned what they were being ordered to do. In this case it was only the janitor who questioned the voice on the phone, all the others were taken in because he spoke with authority.

I knew it were a hoax call before we were privy as the audience to that information
and
Who's to say the person making the allegations is telling the truth, that's what i found unbelievable, that an unknown person made an allegation a 'police officer' rings up and asks the manageress to do a strip search  really....and more unbelievable she complies
Like i said i don't deny it happened but if this is how easily led some humans are then god help us!

But as Donna Summers says, you did not take that call.
The real anger should be at McDonalds US who were warned of these hoax calls and buried details of them in a large training manual. Their own security advisors told them to put stickers next to the phones and they failed to do so, hence the punitive damages against McDonald's, upheld by the appeal court if I remember the case.

Amy - 9/10
I was contemplating buying the film, and after it won an Oscar I thought "**** it".. I've always been a fan of Amy and although I assumed it'd show her highs as well as her lows, I never thought a documentary about her could be this devastating. I feel like I know about her so much more, understanding songs in a different light and some of it was very sad to watch indeed (re-seeing her first "bad" performance in particular was hard to watch), but I honestly couldn't recommend it more.

Was expecting a 4 movie but got a 7/10... and I kinda felt it was better then most Marvel movies coming out these days... way better then the Captain American franchise.

Morning Glory - 1.5/5
Other than Harrison Ford in the cast (Which makes any movie better than it is), it was a like bad diarrhea of a movie.
..Suffragette...really levelling to be reminded what a short time ago it was that some women felt they had to even die, to have their voices heard and to have any value at all, let alone have a vote...another movie that's hard to rate but extremely powerful and well done, with a tremendous cast...

Run all Night - Typical Liam Neeson "geriaction" movie so I enjoyed it  6.5/10
Plot synopsis:
Liam Neeson is Bob Smith, a record breaking marathon runner pushing 60 who has run 20 miles every night since he was a teenager. But now, his doctor (Morgan Freeman) has told him that he has an age related heart concern, and he must stop running, or face the inevitable. With one last big race coming up, will Bob take his doctor's advice? Or will he, one last time... Run All Night.

"Insurgent", 5.5/10. Entertaining enough as a popcorn flick but... it totally jumps the shark.
Part of the premise of the first film (Divergent) is that there's this long, drawn out, VR testing procedure to determine which "faction" people belong to. This is in a post-apoc world, where they're operating off of pre-apoc technology, and this is a process that's been going on for 200 years. In this sequel, set MAYBE 6 months after the "testing" in the original, at most, the "bad guys" all of a sudden have this hand-held scanner thing that they just point at people and it tells them which faction they are in like 2 seconds. :umm2:. Then they realise that isn't enough, and 5 minutes later they've upgraded it to tell them exactly what PERCENTAGE of each faction they are! AND some sort of special stun gun that only works on people belonging to certain factions. I mean... just... what? I don't mind a little bit of plot-convenience in a film if it's just to cut a few boring corners, but come on, there's a limit. You can't have them have the exact same tech and procedures for centuries in one film, and then have it suddenly jump forward several generations without any sort of explanation... c'mon guys.
Went to see..
London Has Fallen - Was really good, Gerard Butler is brilliant in it (and I don't like him) and even through the seriousness of the movie there are still some good funny parts especially between the main characters.

To be fair at least, I imagine, this is because they leave and find new stuff. I can accept that. Stuff going on elsewhere. I just need ANY sort of explanation, I don't even mind if it's flimsy. Like in that last one, they could have stuck in a 2 minute scene where they explain that they've been secretly (but illegally) experimenting on people for years and developed this tech and can now use it because they've taken over. Fine! It doesn't take much for me to suspend my disbelief. I even managed to accept Starlord having a "moment" with a raptor. Why? Because they at least took a second earlier to explain that they imprint on him as a parent at birth.
But no, the scanner... they're like "Oh this? Yeah I found it in a drawer isnt it cool? Zap Zap Zap...". Can't handle it :hmph:

It was a good movie with some fantastic performances from John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winster but it left so much unresolved for me and the end was sub par imo

...Suite Francaise...although, mainly a romance type movie, it wasn't too bad in showing Germany's occupation in a French town/the impact etc..and Michelle Williams is always delightful.....so 7/10, I think

The Big Short
At times hard to follow since I'm an economic n00b and a lot of it was designed to confuse/astound like much of the subject matter I suppose but... Steve Carell's performance was excellent and the pacing/editing of the film was gripping. The supporting cast was amazing too, even aside from the main 4 names advertised with it. 8/10.

From what I've read, people who already know / enjoy DC comics lore and the characters like it, casual viewers find it good popcorn viewing (for the action) but find it hard to follow. Seems like it's not very self contained and requires background knowledge of the source material to follow the story.
Quite a lot of films like that really... Where you're like "that was awesome, but if I hadn't read the book I'd have had no clue what was going on...".
Marvel are better at creating films that form a series but are also a self-contained narrative. Except maybe Thor. Anyone coming into Thor 2 without seeing the first one is likely to be baffled :joker:

I can't actually follow actual comics, I've tried but don't enjoy them. But I do enjoy the back stories etc... Consequently, I have a huge knowledge of DC and Marvel lore gained entirely from film, TV... Wikipedia, and various other wiki type sites :joker:. I do that anyway though. Whenever we watch a movie that I enjoy, afterwards I spend ages reading all of the trivia etc. on Imdb. Drives my wife nuts, hahaha. "OOOOOHHH and and and did you know..."

I get most of my back story information from my 11 year old son, was never a superhero fan tbh until I got kind of roped into it by him, seriously every car journey I have Luke talking non stop about superheros so you have to make a choice either go with it and start enjoying them or be driven slowly crazy while trying to resist, the former was the less stressful option

10 Cloverfield Lane
6/10
It was a good movie with some fantastic performances from John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winster but it left so much unresolved for me and the end was sub par imo
So was Howard a bad guy? had he been murdering teenage girls in his bunker? What became of his daughter?
If Michelle could breath outside the bunker what was up with the crazy woman with the burns?
RE: the second point - did you not see the part where the large alien ship was releasing the toxic gas? At that part Michelle put her gas mask on to avoid becoming like the crazy lady.

Went to see Batman vs Superman... complicated to score. Loosely, I'll put it this way:
First half - 5/10
Second half - 8/10
Spoiler-free:
The first half of the film is at the same time too long and too short. The entire time is spent essentially setting up the story - which takes double the time because they have to fit both main characters in there (All of Batman's back story, a re-cap of Man of Steel plus the aftermath) AND also shoehorn a bit of Wonder Woman in there. I say too long and too short, because on the one hand it sort of drags and you want the action to start, but on the other they've packed SO much information into it that the editing seems... off. It jumps around quite abruptly, and despite the length and dragging, they still don't really cover everything. If you don't already know the DC source material, I can imagine being pretty confused about what the **** is even going on.
However... you then hit the second half of the film. I was there for the action and it delivered for me, big time. It's massive, epic, fluid, and for me just spot-on in ways that Marvel has so far not quite managed.
Spoilers:
OK so the flimsy storyline problems.
- Lex Luthor's evil plan is poorly explained and doesn't make any sense. He doesn't seem to have any motivation or grand plan, at all, in setting Bats and Supes against each other other than as a distraction to release Doomsday... but he doesn't seem to have any plan behind that, either. It actually sort of seems like he's just trying to cause pure chaos and destruction for the hell of it. Which a villain like The Joker might do... but Lex Luthor? Neh. Senseless.
Batman. I actually like Affleck's Batman and I have absolutely no problem with him being more violent / brutal than "classic" Batman representations. I think most people might have missed the point, here, and actually missed even some quite important plot points of the film? This is a Batman that has been fighting crime, endlessly, for 20 years and hasn't fixed anything in the end. Robin is dead, Gotham is still broken, his mansion is a burnt out shell... there are a lot of gaps to fill in for yourself but it's fairly obvious that they're saying he USED TO be the Batman we're all used to... just not any more. He lurches between frustration, depression and rage and has given up on people.
The entire point of the film, the whole metaphor of it, is Batman seething with anger at Superman for being too powerful and (importantly) not human. He doesn't trust his because he knows what he can do, and he doesn't understand that although Superman could easily rule or destroy the world, he won't, because despite being an alien, he is a good person. In other words... Batman isn't angry at or fighting Superman - he's projecting these new aspect of his own character that he hates onto Superman, and fighting himself. He's a far more interesting and realistic Batman than we've ever seen before, in my view... not here for comic purists getting all pissy because he kills a couple of guys who are trying to kill him and other innocent people tbh. "No kill rule". Meh.
The resolution is almost hilariously ham-fisted of course, they're knocking lumps out each other one minute, and then Supes tries to tell him that his mother (Martha Kent) is in danger, and the scene goes somewhat like this:
*RRAARGGH FIGHT SMASH KILL*
S: "But Martha..."
B: "WHO IS MARTHA?? WHY YOU SAY MARTHA??"
S: "Martha is my mummy."
B: "Ur mum's called Martha? Oh cool my mum was called Martha too lol that's weird man!"
S: "Yeah but she got kidnapped"
B: "Oh no way! Wanna team up and be best buddies now? Our mums have the same name! Mine's dead and yours is in danger :("
S: "Yeah! Super friendsss"
B: "OK cool you go fight Doomsday and I'll go save your mum. Let's go! Weeee."
This isn't even an exaggeration. The scene lasts like 3 minutes, from Batman using kryptonite and them trying to smash each other's heads through walls, to being literally best buddies, and Batman rediscovering the good in himself at the same time. I feel it was... err... rushed.
HOWEVER, like I said... the actual Bats vs Supes fights, followed by the entire sequence where Batman takes out a tonne of armed guys to save Martha Kent (complete with loads of Arkham games tease...), and then into the Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman vs Doomsday battle... is so well done that I would watch it again tomorrow just for that.
There's a part of me that thinks it is a shame, though, because the films issues could easily have been ironed out in one simple way. There needed to be a standalone Batman film set after Man of Steel but before this. There simply isn't enough space in this film to properly flesh out the story and the villains (and Wonder Woman) because so much of it is spent establishing Batman, and what happened to him in the aftermath of Man of Steel. But it's not that they could just cut that content, it sets up the entire story. So yeah... there's a missing film, IMO, and that is the major problem. A bit more thought and attention to detail in the set-up for this one and it could have been a really great film.

I think the bad reviews are unjustified, I enjoyed this more than most Marvel films. The dialogue was rough in places and Jessie Eisenberg was awful but I enjoyed everything else.
I'd like to see someone else other than Zach Snyder tackle the DC films going forward, he paints Superman and Batman as having a disregard for human life and that doesn't suit their characters at all.
Finally, Wonder Woman is a boss ass bitch that stole the show, When she appeared in the final battle I had to stop myself from screeching 'YAAS BITCH YAAS'

Cake - A sad thought provoking film. Jennifer Anniston is brilliant as Claire who is a victim of an accident and suffers chronic pain which she manages with a cocktail of drugs and alcohol - this film deals with suicide and those affected by suicide as well as dealing with grief. A film that will stay with me for a while :( 9/10

Yeah I agree with all of that. I don't think it helps that Lex is just straight up badly written and underdeveloped. His motivations aren't clear at all and he comes across nervous and unhinged. Every time I saw him on screen, I couldn't help but think it was ridiculous that Smallville, a teen show with a much smaller budget, had a far superior Lex Luthor to a 9-figure blockbuster...
The problem with removing Snyder, in my opinion, is that the overwhelming strength of this movie was the final 3 or 4 big action sequences and (in my opinion) Snyder's stylised action is near flawless. It's what elevated those scenes WAY beyond Marvel. But he's not a great director for the storyline elements... Maybe they need two directors??
Also agree that Wonder Woman stole the show in the doomsday battle. It was essentially a WW + Superman tag team there, Batman was a bit out of his depth...

Jessie Eisenberg was trying to channel Gene Hackman I think and it just didn't work. Smallville is pretty much the only live action depiction of Lex that I've liked. I hope that they make Lex more calculated and less zany in future appearances.
TBH, there's other directors who can do both action and drama really well. If Zach Snyder's character moments don't improve in Justice League then he should be removed.
Superman should have just given the spear to Wonder Woman, she was solo-ing him just fine with only a sword. I do love that they gave her such a strong debut, I hope her solo film makes good on all that potential. It would be great to have a female superhero film that isn't awful plus, like how Deadpool is likely to inspire more adult focused super hero films, WW's success could lead to more female characters getting the spotlight which would be great as there's as many good female heroes as there are male ones.

WW had to be holding doomsday with the lasso in order for supes to get a clear shot to the chest, though...
The reason I think Snyder was essential to the action in this is just a few subtle bits. He has a style and timing in his action that I've never seen nailed so perfectly anywhere else. A defining action moment in this, for me, is when WW blocks the laser eye blast with her shield, and then the leap forward... It's signature Snyder. There are plenty of competent action directors, the Marvel action is competent, but it doesn't stand out.
Don't know if you've seen "Sucker Punch" but it's the same sort of deal. The story (whilst I sort of enjoy it) is all over the place but there are 3 or 4 action sequences that are just standout. One in particular I consider basically flawless.

..(I guess..) that maybe it appealed to two different audiences but didn't somehow connect/gel for many people..the storyline being one thing and very heavy going and then the action/fight parts...I'm only saying that because you say that you paid less attention to the story on the first viewing whereas my focus was more on the story, while still appreciating how the fight sequences worked along with it all...but it was definitely more the story focus for me...but yes, the robot train..the Samuri sword one was another that I thought was amazing ...

Yeah I'm not saying Leos performance in it wasn't good but I could think of performances he's put in that were better and more deserving of the Oscar, like in Django Unchained for example
Tbh, I think that happens an awful lot.
Loads of actors who deserve Oscars have won one for the wrong role/film.

Pandemic
A search and rescue team is sent into the quarantined city of Los Angeles to extract a busload of uninfected after a virus breaks out turning the world's population into ravenous zombie-like-killers.
I quite enjoyed it, I liked how it was shot partly as a regular movie and partly from the cameras mounted on the teams helmets. I loved the cast too and there are a few twists thrown in there.

Wild - Reese Witherspoon goes on the journey of her lifetime to find herself and to deal with her addictions and the grief of losing her mum, she walks 1000 miles along the Pacific Crest Trail - a beautiful and moving film.....8.5/10
Insomnia - Robin Williams plays a serious role as a child killer and Al Pacino as a cop who's trying to nail him....but he has his own demons. A good old fashioned thriller, Hilary Swank is excellent, Robin Williams is brilliant, and Al Pacino is mesmerising! 9/10

Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens:
Superb movie in all ways. But just 4.45/5, because of Han dying.
