The Caller (2011) - Started off too messy for my liking but actually turned out to be a decent horror. Ending was a bit crap but still a good middle hour of it was interesting - 4/5

I watched a free download of Divergent and was really happy i hadn't paid money to see it. Thought it was dreadful personally. Kinda' like someone tried to make a budget film aimed at the same audience as The Hunger Games but forgot to give it an interesting storyline!:nono:
Divergent did actually have quite a small budget, due to the old director. The next 3 films have been given a much bigger budget and has a new director (thank god) honestly, I liked the film because I'm such a huge fan of the books, but it can be a bit boring if you don't know the storyline already. Can't wait for Insurgent though.

The Inbetweeners 2 - 7/10

A good sequel and really funny. I'd read before watching that they didn't intend on making a third movie so I was hoping that there would be some kind of closure at the end, but there wasn't, so maybe there will be a third in the future some time.

Rain Man - 7/10

Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise were both great in this, definitely carried the film. A few funny moments but overall it's a serious film with a great message.

How I Live Now - 4/10

It was ok. Kind of like a not as good version of Atonement.

Pineapple Express - 6.5/10

James Franco steals the show in this. I thought it started to lose its way a little towards the end (but I think it was intentional) but overall a really funny film with a good storyline.

Zombieland - 6/10

Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenburg as a duo surprisingly works really well, and even Emma Stone was bearable for once. Needs a sequel really.

I Know What You Did Last Summer - 1/10

A contender for worst film I've ever seen.

Filth - 7.5/10

Where to even start... Amazing performance from McAvoy, probably the best of his career so far. I didn't see that twist coming towards the end at all. Loved how unpredictable it was and how it took so many risks that most filmmakers wouldn't even think of making.

Oh I really liked that film, I thought it was really creepy

It was pretty creepy but I think Kate Hudson's a pretty bland actress which sort of ruined it for me because it's such a small cast so the focus is entirely on the actors. The elderly couple were both played really well though.

Alyce Kills (2011) - Not sure what to think of this, it took a while to get into it but the last half hour was amazing and had a very May/American Mary feel to it. Sadly the first half of the movie was kinda boring - 3/5

Lawless - 7/10

Guy Pearce stole the show really, although Shia LaBeouf was surprisingly amazing as well (only ever seen him in Transformers before this), and Tom Hardy delivered as always. I liked how the shootout at the end was kind of all over the place and handled realistically instead of in a typical hollywood way where every character suddenly becomes an action hero.

Zero Dark Thirty - 8/10
Not as great as I expected, very slow in places, but overall a very solid and well acted film.

The Purge - 5/10
I loved the premise but this was a missed opportunity.

Olympus Has Fallen - 8/10
Gerard Butlers best film imo (not exactly hard) and has a similar feel to some 80s/90s action movies (Die Hard/Speed etc). Morgan Freeman is great as always as is Melissa Leo. Terrific overall.

Star Trek Into Darkness - 9/10
Even better than the excellent 2009 reboot, mainly due to Benedict Cumberbatch and Zachary Quinto. The cast really makes this film, but the plot is gripping and special effects superb. JJ Abrams can do little wrong imo. Just brilliant.

Totally agree about Zero Dark Thirty, Olympus Has Fallen & Star Trek Into Darkness. I always see the spirit of the original Star Trek actors in Pine, Quinto, Urban & co. & agree the plot is brilliant. :wavey:

I didn't read the books but it seems to be the thing to do with these YA series now, to turn the last book into 2 films, doesn't it? I will watch it as much as I hated part 1, just because I've seen them all now so I may as well follow through to the end, I hate not finishing a series

Twilight Breaking Dawn part 2 - Much better than part 1 (although that wouldn't be hard :hehe: ) decent ending to the series actually 7/10
I really liked the twist where the whole fight scene at the end was just a premonition. I did wonder though what would happen to Jacob, Will they eventually turn him into a hybrid vampire wolf so he won't die or what?

Boyhood - 10/10

Perfect in every way, it must have been so weird for Ethan Hawke doing this film and the Before trilogy in the same time period.. One thing I noticed is how much Mason changed through time espically the leap from when he was 8 or 9 to when he was 12 compared to Sam who pretty much had the same personality throughout the film, I'm glad the film was based more on the family rather then his love interests (because that's already been done in the same sort of way in the Before Trilogy) I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of Sequal either from where the Film finishes off to him starting a new family

Finally watched 22 Jump Street.

I would give it 7/10 as it was a good sequel and had a few funny bits. None of it was laugh out loud comedy but the general plot and last thirty minutes or so had me gripped.

Boy Wonder - 6.5/10 - Very good little-known movie.. Would suggest checking it out if you have Netflix. Very ambiguous.

Ender's Game - 4/10 - I liked it up until the last 20-30 minutes, I found the final battle very underwhelming, the main characters feelings about it completely stupid, and yeah.. Could have been a lot better.

Jerry Maguire - 8/10 - Great movie, can't believe I hadn't seen it before. It's hard to believe that the guy that can put in a performance like this (Cuba Gooding Jr) is now doing straight to DVD movies that nobody watches or cares about. Amazing acting from him & Tom Cruise.

Flightplan - 4/10 - Was on TV earlier. Decent enough mystery/suspense movie but nothing worth going out of your way to watch.

On the Road - 4/10 - Pretty boring. The actor playing Dean Moriarty was good in the role and Kristen Stewart had a few naked sex scenes, plus there's a lot of travelling. Outside of that it was a poor movie.

actually kind-of enjoyable movie despite the author's fans/the author being incredibly annoying... couple of eyeroll moments though (John Green's cameo  the clapping at a couple making out in the Anne Frank museum  yes Anne's words totally apply to a couple of cancer victims making out)

Stalingrad 7/10

It looks amazing and some of the special effects were the best I've seen but the story focused to much on the love story (bit like Pearl Harbour) I read some UK and USA reviews on the film after I watched and the biggest critism seems to be how Patriotic it is but I don't really don't see any difference between how Western Countries make themselves look in WWII films to how the Russians did with this film, the only really over the top scene was a Jew getting exucuted and about 5 Russians going mental and storming out of the building and taking on dozens of Germans, I need to watch the 1993 one now

One of the worst films I have ever seen.. Poor Sophie having to star in it.

The Last Stand - 5/10

Pretty good action film and Arnie's acting is actually decent. Really good supporting cast as well, Saracen from FNL, Jacopo from Count of Monte Cristo, Paulo from Lost, Johnny Knoxville, and Forest Whittaker. I think if they'd have gone further with the serious tones and left the comedy out then it could have been a lot more than just decent.

Chasing Amy - 6/10

Didn't know what to expect from this and didn't really know what it was about, but it ended up being really good. Ben Affleck played his role perfectly and the girl playing the lead female role was brilliant. The tone of it was pretty similar to Swingers, although I like Swingers more.

This movie had promise as it had Jane Levy in it, and I ****ing love Surburgatory. Then I watched it. This movie is a complete pile of ****, you figure it's about something like the teenagers having a party, right? Nope, it's about them not going to a party but nstead hunting to find their brother, whom ran away looking for candy whilst trick or treating. It's one of the movies in which you want to punch the child in the face, and yell 'No, don't ****ing go into the guys car, you stupid little ****!' This movie was a waste of my time and it had an extremely boring storyline. The only reason this is getting a 2.5 is because Jane (Named April in the movie) Was sassy af, the only good thing about it.

The Next Three Days - 7.5/10 - I remember seeing the trailer for this a few years back when I was at the pictures watching something else and wanting to watch it, but I guess I just forgot about it until I saw it on Netflix last week. It was really good anyway, possibly even better than I was expecting it to be. Definitely underrated.

Homefront - 5/10 - I don't usually like Jason Statham in movies but he done a good job here and actually pulled off the role, decent storyline as well. I didn't really find James Franco that intimidating in his role though (and he was the reason I actually watched this), and despite being good it doesn't really stand out from other movies in its genre.

Rounders - 5/10 - Matt Damon & Ed Norton both turned in good performances and I thought the subject matter was interesting (gambling addiction) but the ending was very predictable.

jOBS - 4/10 - When it was first announced Ashton Kutcher was going to be playing Steve Jobs I was one of the very small minority that thought he was actually a good choice (mainly based on his performance in Butterfly Effect), and after now seeing the film I still stand by him being a good choice, he gave a decent performance (though not oustanding) and definitely wasn't the problem with this film. I felt like they got some parts of it spot on (the iPod reveal in the opening scene, Macintosh, etc), but I don't think they delved deep enough into how he alienated everyone around him. Overall it was a decent effort but felt more like a TV movie, Christian Bale and Aaron Sorkin will have a better version coming out in a couple of years.

Get the Gringo - 7/10 - Good old Mel still managing to find a great script and turn in a brilliant performance despite being blacklisted from Hollywood, you just can't keep a good man down. The fight scenes reminded me of a Tarantino movie, too.

World War Z - 7/10 - Heard mixed things about this when it first came out which put me off watching but I enjoyed it and thought it was a really good film. I liked how they explored countries all over the world and didn't just do what zombie movies usually do and just focus on one area/country. James Badge Dale was brilliant in his small-ish role. Looking forward to the sequel.

22 Jump Street - 6.5/10 - I enjoyed the first one but I liked this one even more. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are a really good pair, I think I read a couple of weeks back that they're making a third movie and I definitely think that's the right choice.. Also helped that Ice Cube had a bigger role in this one, cos his character is great.

The Road - 9/10 - Brilliant. I didn't know beforehand but the novel was written by the same guy that wrote No Country For Old Men, so I'm not surprised it was so good. Such a good cast (even though most only have small roles), the storyline is brilliant and there are many touching scenes.. Definitely going on my favourites list.

Interstellar - 9/10

Been looking forward to this for about a year and it was definitely worth the wait. They got the balance between time on earth and time in space spot on and it flowed perfectly, every single one of the characters was interesting as well which is pretty rare. The visual effects are the best I have ever seen, can't believe they didn't use any green screens to accomplish what they did. It's definitely one of those films that has got to be watched on a big screen to get the most out of it (mainly for the visuals I just mentioned), great performances as well especially from McConaughey and the girl that played young Murphy.

World War Z - 7/10

Pretty good film, went into it thinking it would be scary as Locke made out it was but it was pretty tame really. Some of the big scenes like the plane crash and Jerusalem being invaded by the zombies were great. There aren't really that many key characters in the movie apart from Brad & it seemed like there was too much to fit into the movie, it all moved along too quickly.

Miracle On 34th Street 1973

I have seen the other two movies, never saw this movie before until , this was not as good as the original or 1994 remake

I just could not get into this movie at all, This movie was missing something, I can not put my finger on it!

I just didn't enjoy it, while i was watching, it took me while to get into the movie, as most of the movie scene from scene remake but scenes felt empty and still

Meryl Streep was great as always, also jeff bridges was great to watch. The concept was awesome, but again, the ending was just so ****ing dull and predictable. So much great acting talent, but the story just had nothing left at the end. (i didn't read the book)

Edge of Tomorrow - 7/10 - A nice surprise, so much better than the trailers made it look. Great action film with loads of humour and Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt were excellent together.

Bad Neighbours - 4.5/10 - A bit let down by this, I think there were only two scenes that made me laugh: the Robert De Niro impression part and the fight between Seth and Zac Efron. I usually really like Seth Rogen films but this was just a slightly below average comedy. Probably would have liked it more when I was about 16.

Let's Be Cops - 5/10 - Same as above, except I didn't really go into this one with any expectations. The actual plot was fun and the scene when they come across that huge naked obese criminal that lands on top of Wayans' character was hilarious.

Divergent - 6.5/10 - Wasn't expecting too much from this but I enjoyed it. Looking forward to the sequel. Also, Shailene

Aaliyah: Princess of R&B - 1/10 - Complete fiction passed off as a true story, should never have been made and is very offensive to Aaliyah's family and the others portrayed in the story.

If I Stay - 5/10 - Could have been much better. Chloe Moretz turned in a good performance and I enjoyed the flashback scenes, but all the scenes in present day were a little underwhelming.

Skyfall, yesterday on ITV or ITV1.

Very good Bond movie, i think the best where Daniel Craig has starred as of yet. Javier Bardem was quite good as a Bond villain. M´s (Judi Dench) death was quite moving. Good acting, good story (somewhat), good cinematography/directing, good special effects and great music/sound effects (except the theme tune). 8,35/10.

I finally somewhat understand all the hype now.

Under The Skin

It was a complete and utter disappointment, probably one of the worst films I've seen in years. Painfully pretentious yet devoid of any depth. If it was a book it would have read like this 'Scarlet Johansen does this one thing, and then she does it again and again and then she does something else. the end.' It's shallow and a complete non-event of a film.

It might just be me, maybe I missed something but I just didn't understand why the critics have gone mad for it. It just felt really shallow and ultimately pointless to me.

A Long Way Down

I read the book last year and when I heard a film was going to be made and Johnny Depp was gonna be involved I was ready to throw myself off a building. However, I watched it this morning and it was beautiful.

They definitely focused on the right parts from the book. Martins story in the book really isn't as compelling as the other three characters and I'm actually very glad he was swept to the side as a father figure. Jess is almost exactly how I imagined her and I really enjoyed both Imogen Poots performance of her and Toni Collettes performance of Maureen was so spot on. Aaron Paul is always amazing and I can't hear a bad word about him. The film does show the dark sense of humour in the book but I possibly would've liked that pushed a bit further even though it was just as heartwarming. I get why they made JJ and Jess a couple even though it doesn't happen in the book but I personally preferred how their relationship was more like siblings in the book. They did have great chemistry though as did all the cast and that's really all this film needed, a good cast with brilliant chemistry and they pretty much nailed that.

But yeah, super impressed generally. One of my favourite books was definitely done justice. 8.5/10
