View Full Version : What was the last film you watched?
Does what it says on the tin
After Earth - 8/10 - Thought this was a pretty decent movie and enjoyed the story line, thought there would have been more big monsters/creatures in it though.
The Purge - 7/10 - I had read quite a few bad reviews for this movie so wasn't expecting it to be very good but I was pleasantly surprised, I thought it was good..the storyline wasn't amazing but yeah it was alright.
Scary Movie 5 - 4/10 - Awful, I can't even think of much else to say about it.
Paranormal Activity 4 - 3/10 - Even worse than Scary Movie 5, complete and utter garbage from start to finish, basically non existent storyline and the ending was pathetic.
Total Recall (the remake) - 8/10 - Really enjoyed it but still prefer the original.

Horrible Bosses- Brilliant, had me laughing out loud many times, 8/10

Zero Dark Thirty - 8/10
Not as great as I expected, very slow in places, but overall a very solid and well acted film.
The Purge - 5/10
I loved the premise but this was a missed opportunity.
Olympus Has Fallen - 8/10
Gerard Butlers best film imo (not exactly hard) and has a similar feel to some 80s/90s action movies (Die Hard/Speed etc). Morgan Freeman is great as always as is Melissa Leo. Terrific overall.
Star Trek Into Darkness - 9/10
Even better than the excellent 2009 reboot, mainly due to Benedict Cumberbatch and Zachary Quinto. The cast really makes this film, but the plot is gripping and special effects superb. JJ Abrams can do little wrong imo. Just brilliant.

Grabbers (2012)
I did watch this over today, I saw half yesterday and saw the rest of today, Maybe it's movie I need to watch in my sitting.
I thought there were some funny moments in this movie and some decent jokes here and there.
I liked the creature not bad at all, it had the right look of scary/funny creature and I really little ones as well, I felt this movie was not as really that fun
Other creatures like Tremors it a lot of fun, this movie did not have the same impact as that at all.
I thought this would be much better then it was and I was hoping it to be a bit more funny then it was.
The acting was really good and I would not mind a sequel,
Fairytale (2012/I)
This is odd one, I thought it some really good ideas in this movie,
I loved some of scenes in this movie, it there really well made but they didn't seem to have that Creepy feeling to see,
I thought the plot was really good and the movie didn't flow that well, it felt some scenes in the movie felt bit strange in bad way.
I actually liked the last scenes in this movie and I would have it a bit chilling then it was but that could have been a really good chilling moment,
Another probable with this movie was some of the acting was really Wooden at times in this movie but some scenes there was decent acted scenes.
Not great movie but worth watching a least once 4 out of 10
Chernobyl Diaries (2012)
I felt that this movie started of little slow, it took me a while to get into the movie, there few scenes that seem really little boring and drag a tittle.
just before half way mark , I got a bit intruded by it but Never really into the movie and I found boring but watch able and I thought the movie would have a lot more better then it was.
I didn't' like this in the whole but I really dig the last scenes in the movie, that what decent jump scenes.
The acting was not bad at all, it decent from the whole cast but I was little disappointed that the deaths were mostly off screen.
4 out of 10
About to something called Dark Circles (2013), makes time go fast before BB start :)

6/10 Enjoyed the storyline but the comedy wasn't that up to scratch.
A Haunted House
10/10 Loved this, love the humour used (but might be because I'm quite immature)
The Purge
8/10 Enjoyed the concept, wasn't played out perfectly but enjoyed the many twists and turns.

I wasn't too sure what to expect from this, well I knew it was about giant robots and monsters. The idea behind it seemed slightly dumb, there are giant monsters, so instead of making weapons to kill them, the people of earth make giant robots to punch the crap out of them. It was kinda like a godzilla movie. But they had a giant robot called "Gipsy Danger" so it gets five points for that alone 5/10

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
It was a fun and surprisingly faithful adaptation of the game but I honestly thought I would enjoy it more if it was an animation since the hairstyles and outfits were too outlandish to work in a live action setting and it was distracting. The actors looked like mediocre cosplayers with an addiction to hair products. Also Larry Butz' character was annoying enough in the game, giving him a bigger role in the film was a terrible idea.
6/10

Fast & Furious 6 - 8.5/10
People will judge this for the connection to the first 4 admittedly average films and even just for the 6 in the title - but honestly Fast Five and this are by a mile the best in the franchise. The set pieces, car chases and action scenes are second to none, with some comedy thrown in as well and The Rock works his magic yet again (he is basically franchise viagra). Its not going to win any Oscars but I challenge you to find a more wildly entertaining and enjoyable film as this this year. Superb.

Playback (2012)
This was not as thought it would be but it not all the great either.
I really liked the opening scenes in this movie, it kinds grabs you really fast but it shame next 20 minutes which I thought the movies was moving a little slow at times.
I liked the plot the movies, It bit like ring in so-what different way and I did enjoy some of death scenes in this movie.
What did annoy me the most about this movie, there are far to many of the flashing scenes in this movie, which may give some people Headache
I did not find the movie boring at all, it get intruded thoughout the whole movie.
The acting was not all great from most cast then were some decent well know actors in this movie.
I going to give this movie 4 out of 10 Worth watching!
Despicable Me 2 - was disappointed tbh. I loved the first one, but unfortunately the follow up isnt anywhere near as good :(

Stitches (2012)
This movie is a British/Irish horror/Comedy movie
There were not much horror in this movie, this movie as some very funny moment with a lot of gore in this movie.
The plot the movie
Stitche arrives late at Tom’s birthday, and attempts to entertain the children, but they instead ridicule him. Vinny ties Stitches shoelaces together, causing him to trip and land on a kitchen knife, and he dies. Tom visits Stitches’ grave and finds a group of clowns performing a ritual, and the group's leader, The Motley, threatens Tom.
Six years later, Tom is preparing for his seventeenth birthday and the same night Stitche arrives back from the dead.
This did have some really good decent jokes here and there, maybe laugh and now, I do think some ones jokes, were little over the top.
I loved over the top gory death scenes in this movie, really creative and also some of funniest deaths scenes I ever seen.
The acting could have been at a lot better and there movie jokes could be a lot funny,
The acting was okay for this kind of movie, not great but more then watch able acting.
The movie is very enjoyable fun and never gets boring at all but ending was predictable.
I would liked to rated this higher but the ones scene, which I did not find that funny at and scenes it self wasn't really write.

ATM (2012)
I thought this was really decent movies and I thought the movies flowed really well , there was one good tense moment in the movies.
I didn't find this movie as intense as others movies that some kind of Same plot, it was very credible movie.
I wasn't to keen as the movies came to the end at all and I wished there explained ending a bit to why was person killing in first place.
The acting was really good from the small cast
5 out of 10
Madhouse (2004)
I loved the opening scene of this movies, it was very well made, it had some very stranger and it felt very surreal.
So the movies had it from the very first scenes and I really enjoyed the rest of the movie.
I found the whole movie flowed really well, well it wasn't fast or slow, it was not boring at at
I have some part of the movie very creepy and some tense moment in this movies, Which I thought were really good.
I really liked how they did the twist, you may see it coming but it done really well and I liked the very last scenes of the movie,
The deaths scenes were not that bad but I did not liked the affect some of death scenes were from screen.
The acting was really good from the whole cast
8 out of 10
The Haunting of Sarah Hardy (1989)
It sound like really good ghost with that title, this movie it not even close to A Ghost story at all.
Them movies start Sarah at her Dad funeral and mother at the wake think Sarah wished it was her, so she killed her self by drowning.
Few years later she moves in with her New Husband back into the house but she start losing the plot.
No really spook or any kind atmosphere scene at all and it takes a while to get really in the movies, I which found some part dragged and bored me to death,
The twist and turns in this movie were so Predicable that it was Ridicules, just like the script.
I don't get me started on atrocious ending of this dreadful movie,
There only one good think I can say about this movie, that some of Acting was decent but some of it was really bland
2 out of 10
The Haunting of Seacliff Inn (1994)
I find this bit silly, a couple who see house that they liked but old lady still there, that night the lady is killed and is found the next day.
So they get House that quick and they want to make in a Hotel thing. Few odd thing happen at times but there to far part and that really that effecting at all and it kind of drag in some part of the movie.
Which dose make a bit boring at times and there near the last 15-20 minutes thing start to kick off again and They tried to turn a very slow movie in to a very pace movie for few minutes,
which I Don't think flowed that well with the rest of the movie at all
It was not that scary or creepy at all, it was Ghost story one or two spooky moment that really.
3 out of 10
The Haunting of Helen Walker (1995)
Now this what you call a good chiller, I really enjoyed it, it dose take long to get to the creepy parts, they worked really well.
There are to far apart from each other and they not just there for one Jump scenes, you see this ghost for more then 20's seconds.
I loved the Raining window scenes was really well shot and very creepy how movie was fixed on that the whole time,
The Kid in this movie was creepy but I think they were a little to cute to laugh like that.
I really enjoyed this movie, I know it updated version Turn of the Screw (There are few of these out there)
The acting was outstanding from the whole cast and Kids were great too
I going to give this movie 8 out of 10
THE CONJURING (2013)
I didn't let those rave reviews get to me and I didn't get my hope up like I did last year with Sinister , which I thought trailer was great but the movie was HUGE let down and found the movie very boring and dull and not creepy or at all scary, other part of the movie that really annoyed me and I fell sleep in some scenes
So that is the reason I didn't get hope up to much for this year Horror movie THE CONJURING (2013) , First of all the trailer did make this look it was going to full of those scary jumps scene that don't last for then one two seconds and I do think they showed a little to much in the trailer.
I clad I didn't get my hope up to high for this movie, it was really good horror movie, it dose not any new ground that not already seen.
Saying that I did really enjoy the whole movie, I found that did prefer the first half of the movie, where the strange thing started to happen to each member of the family.
There were some really good decent creepy scenes in the movie that lasted much longer then those 2 seconds jump scarce you normal see in horror movie these days.
Other think I liked about this movie they didn't really try to make you jump at all they wanted to creepy you and keep you clued to the screen the on time.
I wasn't to keen on last half hour of the movie, it cause it seen those scenes done many times in the recent years, it get a bit boring and very predicable however the scenes it was not boring
which is a really good thing.
I was hoping for more of aftermath of the thing that just happened but it ended a bit soon after the story came to a end.
I didn't get what last scenes about could not make What I meant to be seeing!
it was very good and very creepy horror! (Another really good horror movie from 2013)

Awful piece of garbage. There's no doubt that Gosling is one of the best leading men around, and the Director is amazingly talented too, both of them teamed up to make Drive. However this isn't even close to how good that was. The director shows his talent by wonderfully framing his scenes, so much so at times it feels like you're watching one still photograph after another. And the dialogue is kinda minimalist.
What brings the movie down is it's just nonsense, there are times when dreams are mixed with reality. And the reality itself is extremely dreamlike, simlar to the creepiness of The Shining. In fact you're probably better off looking at Drive again or go watch The Shining if you've never seen it. Also I think there were about 5mins at least of stuff happening that I covered my eyes to, it was kinda gruesome.
I guess I had high hopes for the film 2/10

If I did see trailer which dose show most of the movie but It didn't really a fact the movie that much but it better seeing this movie , before even thinking about the trailer.
I really enjoyed it was a lot of fun to watch,
This movie had some very creepy moment that worked really with really good tense before some very gross moment and some of death scenes were really gory and very well done.
The death in shower is was total unexpected really took me by surprised
This had from the very first second of the movie until decent ending of the movie.
Great acting from the whole cast
I giving this movie 8! out of 10
GREAT Fun movie! UNDERRATED)
Cockneys vs Zombies, stars Michelle Ryan (one of the Slater sisters from Eastenders) and Honor Blackman (Pussy Galore from 007 franchise) among others. I was expecting a total car crash and purely bought it (£3 from ASDA) to watch with friends on Saturday night for a laugh because of the title but it was actually a great budget film, I was surprised at how good it was.

saw Red 2 at the cinema on Monday. Not quite as good as the first movie (since all shock value's gone) but still pretty enjoyable. Mary Louise Parker was more annoying this time around though. 7/10.
Yeah I watched the first RED film before I watched Cockneys vs Zombies - it was fun but it wasn't all that attention grabbing, dunno if the second one would be any good

Baby Boy. Tyrese and Snoop dogg. Was suppose to be a lead role for tupac but you know what happened there.
But its a great film, very realistic imo.
The Conjuring - 7.5/10
Weird how there were so many people in the house at the same time.. there was like 9/10 in there at one point when it was all going off, the Chinese guy and the Policeman double team were the best i was 100% one of them was going to die though so it was a nice surprise to see them both survive

Didn't top the perfect first film but I'd probably say it's about level with the second. Really weird so how old they both look now though. Probably my second favourite trilogy after Lord of the Rings.
Hm wanted to watch this. But was afraid it was more about the depressing bits of a long term relationship.

Were the millers 7/10 its a decent enough comedy if you want something to watch.
its nothing great though.
The frozen ground 4/10 nicholas cage ,john cussack . two great actors very mundane movie about a serial killer. not much happens really. was ok but very forgetable
Star trek into darkness 7/10 - decent film not as great as the reviews ive read but still good. they really cast them so well the interplay between them all is funny. hopefully next one though they get more into other species.
seeing the conjouring later which is meant to be scary. its got a lot to do though to beat the evil dead remake that horror is the best ive seen in many moons lol

Pain & Gain - 7/10
Actually a lot better than I was expecting. The plot is sort of reminiscent of Fargo - i.e. a supposedly simple kidnapping, extortion and fraud going badly wrong - but on steroids and a much larger budget.
The main trio are all good in their roles and it's probably Michael Bay's best film since Armageddon/The Rock, which isn't saying much
http://horrornews.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/WorldWarZ-Poster.jpg
World War Z - 9/10
One of the best zombie films I've seen yet. Unlike the usual 'small band of survivors' type plot, this one is more on a global scale, viewing the outbreak from a medical point of view and looks at the bigger picture - a la Contagion (although this is much better). Some of the special effects - specifically the horde climbing the wall - are spectacular, and the plot is fast paced but also gives enough time to the characters. Looking forward to the sequel.

Safe Haven-Josh Duhamel.
Was reluctant to watch it because I thought, Ugh typical movie of girl moving to a small town and falling in love with the good looking, homely man of the town but honestly from the first scene it was interesting because it started with the mystery of why she was running away and if she possibly committed murder so that kept your interest and the twist at the end was nice. I didn't expect to cry but I did :bawling:

started watching this a few weeks back but got bored after Ryan died because I couldn't imagine bradley cooper carrying a dramatic film but I'll give it another go
Began watching pain and gain last night when I meant to watch 2 guns. The hell, I couldn't follow it. Too many cut to scenes, and this is what happened as they introduced various characters, not the film to watch when you want to mellow out, but having said that I only made it 37 mins in and the film is 117 mins or something like that. i'll give it another go later :joker:

its a horror but seen it all before family/kids and possession zzzz every horror these days is the same it seems. first half was boring then it did get good but then poor ending. way too over hyped. was good nothing more.
World war Z 6/10 - entertaining for a one of watch but lacked soul
another ok decent movie not great. i love zombie films and brad pitt has done some great movies but this was nothing special. his character or the way he acted was souless and lifeless. the story was a bit weak it was more about he massive zombie scenes but they were pretty good. , the ending was pretty poor i thought unless they are making a part 2?
The worlds end - 4/10
simon peg and pals comedy. lots of good reviews for thisso i was expecting it to be good i,e sean of the dead hot fuzz but wow its was so stupid . peg was great actually and the characters but the really stupid aliens the ending and the end bar scene omg thats a poor . more of a bad episode of doctor who than a high end movie., one movie i hope to never see again

The Canyons. Hmm, it was okay. I'm not entirely sure what the ending meant. Give it a 4/10. James Deen, maybe it was his voice?, seemed a bit wooden (no pun intended). Still a legend though. That said, nobody was amazing in the acting department.

The Bourne Legacy - 6/10
Didn't really want this to get made without Matt Damon but I finally watched it a couple of nights ago and it was a good movie. It was good that they mentioned Jason Bourne and the effects of the Bourne Ultimatum throughout and didn't just forget the first 3 movies to take the franchise in a new direction. The ending was really abrupt though and took away from the rest of the film.

The Phantom Menace - 4/10
This was my favourite Star Wars film when I was a kid, but watching it again the kid that plays Anakin is just disastrous and ruins every scene he is in. A lot of the dialogue is really bad aswell, and what on earth was they thinking with the Jar Jar character.. Has the coolest bad guy of the series and the great Qui Gon Jinn to save it from being a 2/10.
Attack of the Clones - 6.5/10
Quite a bit better than Episode I, the terrible kid actor of Anakin is gone but the guy they've got playing older Anakin isn't that great either really.. The story is much better though, Natalie Portman probably looking the best she ever has and Obi Wan is great in this one after not being that interesting in Episode I.
Revenge of the Sith - 7.5/10
Was heading for an 8 until that really stupid and weird "Noooooo" chant from Vader at the end. The Obi Wan and Anakin showdown was excellent though and so was most of the other fight scenes. Set the original trilogy's storyline up really well.
A New Hope - 10/10
Pretty much a perfect film.. one of the few I would give a 10. Thank god Vader/Anakin is just in a costume now so he can't be destroyed by terrible acting. Obi Wan at his best in this film aswell and Leia takes the lead in the GIP stakes.
The Empire Strikes Back - 8.5/10
I don't think it's as good as A New Hope like a lot of other people do but it is still brilliant and the second best in the series. Luke's character development comes on a lot in this one with the Yoda scenes and the great Han Solo steals the show for the second movie in a row.
Return of the Jedi - 8/10
Think this was my favourite of the original trilogy when I was younger and while it's still great I don't think it's as good as the first 2. The last half hour is possibly the best of all 6 movies but the bit where they are at the Ewoks camp for about 20 minutes brought the rating down a bit. Luke is great in this film though and definitely at his best.

What's Bicycle Thieves about?
It's about a guy who get's a job where he needs to have a bicycle or he can't have the job, on his first day at work, his bike is stolen by a gang of bike thieves, so the rest of the film is about him looking for his bike with his young son.

Blue Valentine - 7.5/10
Really good film. It reminded me a lot of the Notebook though. Jumping back in forth in time, Ryan Gosling as the main character, a love story, Gosling pretty much forcing their first 'date' on the female lead.. The only thing that wasn't similar was their future. He was really great in this though, especially in the older years, Michelle Williams was really good aswell but her character was a bitch.
Silver Linings Playbook - 8.5/10
Another great David O Russell movie. I know Jennifer Lawrence won the Oscar for this but I actually thought Bradley Cooper, DeNiro, and Chris Tucker were all better than her. Cooper was amazing, especially in the first half of the film when he was at his craziest, but Robert DeNiro pretty much stole every scene he was in. The first non-Rush Hour film Chris Tucker has done since the 90's aswell and it's a more serious role which is great, hopefully he gets back into acting properly now.

Really great film about a guy who has a job flying around America firing people from their jobs, he spends 320+ days a year away from home so has no connection to his family, has no friends, basically just doesn't love anybody. Thankfully it doesn't go down the really predictable route at the end either which makes it so much better, and George Clooney was really brilliant in it.. In one scene in particular. I didn't use to care for him all that much but after this and The Descendants I'll have to watch a few of his other films.

..you should watch the movie though Ceecee, it is a strange one because he is kind of a 'hero' figure and inspirational but quite naïve and unprepared as well...but even though he didn't survive, which you could well say was his own fault, he's a very likeable person..it really is an amazing movie and the location settings are stunning...and if that doesn't convince you to watch it.....I think you'll like the actor as well.....

Oh Emiile Hirsch is a hottie, but I know this film will leave me angry, and sad. Unnecessary death but I suppose some think he was a hero because he set to show material things aren't necessary and achieved it for 4 months before nature was like biiaaatch who you think you is :(

Undiscovered. 2005. I said I remembered it sucking ass but it didn't suck that much ass. It was alright I suppose but didn't spend enough time on the love story to make it believable. But oh my god I forgot how smitten I was with Steven Strait. So gorgeous. And I didnt know he actually sang in the movie. Sexy voice. I love him again :bawling:

watched it ages ago. Similar story to Ashton Kutcher's No strings attached, with Natalie Portman. Ashton sucks as an actor so friends with benefits waaay better but you could give no strings attached a go if you enjoyed friends with benefits.
Currently watching sky high. 2005. If a guy like warren peace was interested in me in high school I woulda creamed on a daily basis.

Lars and the Real Doll - 6/10. Pretty weird movie starring Ryan Gosling who spends all of his free time locked in his house alone and doesn't really speak to anybody, ends up buying a sex doll off the internet and starting a real relationship with it. I watched it thinking it was a comedy like it says it is on IMDb but it felt more like a drama to me and was actually quite decent.

Just finished watching Johnny Depp's brilliant directorial debut film "The Brave"
unfortunately arsehole American Critics slaughtered it on it's acclaimed debut in France (1997) so much so, that Depp refused to allow it to be screened in America, this means that a classic film will NOT be seen by millions of people.

The Monkey's Paw (2013) Set in New Orleans, kinda slow to start but worth persevering to the 1Hr mark when all hell breaks loose!
The film centers on Jake Tilton, who acquires a mystical "monkey's paw" talisman that grants its possessor three wishes. Jake finds his world turned upside down after his first two wishes result in co-worker Tony Cobb being resurrected from the dead. As Cobb pressures Jake into using the final wish to reunite Cobb with his son, his intimidation quickly escalates into relentless murder-- forcing Jake to outwit his psychotic friend and save his remaining loved ones.

The Pursuit of Happiness - Really loved this film, 9/10
Shelter. I don't really know what to say about it, on the one hand I thought the characters were all pretty terrible people but that's why the film was quite compelling to watch. The sister deciding to abandon her child so she could move with her new boyfriend across the country was hard to watch, but then watching her reaction to finding out that her brother (who she was going to leave the boy with) was now in a gay relationship and she didn't want them to bring him up made it quite interesting to see whether her homophobic albeit maternal instincts would kick in or if she'd take the selfish path but let her brother live a happy life with his boyfriend and her son...
It's not a particularly exciting film but the last fifteen minutes or so make it totally worthwhile for the above scenario. You basically just sit through the rest of the film watching the brother "fight his gay feelings" and the sister be a terrible parent.

Smiley (2012)- Pretty decent slasher, basically candyman but on the internet. Some funny moments but the ending kinda annoyed me. I pretty much guessed the ending but it made no sense why it happened. It was kinda cruel. sorry Josy I ignored you (as usual) and went for Only God Forgives... wish I hadn't tbh
beautifully-shot nonsense. Zero substance, agonisingly slow and just desperate to be seen as broody and tense when there's really just nothing happening
although Kristin Scott-Thomas is good, the parts where there IS action are good, and Thailand is beautiful, so I'll give it a 5/10.
Best Man Down - 6/10
Wasn't to bad actually, maybe a bit slow at times but it got better and had a pretty good story, the cast is relatively unknown although it did have the main guy from Jeepers Creepers in the lead role and he was great in this.
