It's heartbreak time for Coronation Street fans as poor Chesney Brown is taken into care.


Having to give up his beloved dog Schmeichel, the two are reunited in a bitter-sweet scene to make their final goodbyes.

Chesney was given the pure breed Great Dane in 2004, named after the Danish Goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, as a gift from Tyrone Dobbs, and the two have become inseperable ever since.

Sam Aston who plays Chesney has been a major hit with viewers, winning a string of awards for his role as the abandoned 11-year-old.

Scenes will air in 4 weeks time.

Liam IS leaving -Official
It has been confirmed that Rob James-Collier, who plays Liam Connor, will leave the show later this year.

A Coronation Street spokeswoman said: “We have known for some months now about Rob’s decision to leave at the end of his current contract. He actually gave us a year’s notice of his intention to go.

"This has given us plenty of time to write a fantastic exit storyline, the seeds of which are already being sown. Rob will be on screen until late October/early November.

"We understand his reasons for wanting to leave and wish him every success for the future.”

Rob joined the Street just under two years ago and has recently become embroiled in a love triangle between future wife Maria Sutherland, and former sister-in-law Carla Connor.

FILMING on Coronation Street has been thrown into chaos following the death of star Jane Danson’s father.

Jane – Leanne Battersby in the ITV1 soap – was left devastated by the loss of dad Jack at the weekend.

She has a big storyline scheduled to hit screens soon but recording has been shifted to help her come to terms with Jack’s passing.

Last night, a show source said: “We’ve had to move scenes around as Jane was due to be back today.

“She was very close to her dad – her one-year-old son Harry has Jack as one of his middle names. Jack was only in his fifties so this has all come as a huge shock.”

Jack died at Fairfield Hospital in Bury, Lancs, close to 29-year-old Jane’s family home. A show spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with Jane and her family at this difficult time.”

Jane’s big Corrie story sees Leanne finally bag a bloke – shady bookie Dan Mason.


Break

The pair clash at first with a bust-up over an unpaid bill at her pizza restaurant.

But the row just leads to Leanne lusting after Dan, played by Matthew Crompton, 36.

Jane last took a break from the show after the birth of son Harry in July 2006. She returned to our screens in March last year.

Her husband – ex-Brookside actor Robert Beck, 37 – looks after Harry when Jane is on set.

When a new producer comes in there is always some casualtys

News just in (as they say). According to The Mirror, Lucy Evans (who plays Lauren Wilson) will be leaving Coronation Street next month, soon after Violet and Jamie leave.

There are two versions of events - one (from "a spokeswoman") is that she was only ever supposed to be in the show for six months. The other (from "insiders") is that producers have gone off the idea of Lauren as a long-term character.

The impression I had when Lauren arrived was that she was seen as a permanent character. At the time, producer Steve Frost said, "if there’s fun to be found or mischief to make, Lauren will be at the front of the queue." She's not had much time or opportunity for fun or mischief so far, and the reaction to her from Corrieblog readers hasn't been all that positive, so perhaps new producer Kim Crowther has had a change of heart


There's an intriguing little snippet in the latest issue of Soaplife magazine. Alison King drops a hint about Carla's brother. "I think her brother's supposed to be in jail," she says, adding, "So he could come out in the future." Ooh! I wonder if the Corrie casting director is keeping an eye out for more raven-haired actors even as we speak?

We never thought we’d see the day when David Platt was loved up.

But Corrie newcomer Tina McIntyre has captured his heart (apparently, he does have one) and the pair have been virtually inseparable for weeks.

Actress Michelle Keegan told Inside Soap: “Tina sees herself in David. They both have a dark streak and are loners, so it’s like them against the world. They clicked straight away and have good chemistry.”

Jack P Shepherd, who plays David, added: “They’re great together. Tina’s just like a female version of David, but not as twisted as him.”

Herein lies a potential problem – because rebel Tina doesn’t know the real David yet. Will she still want him when she hears of his long list of dastardly deeds?

Jack said: “With his good looks and charm, David’s every girl’s perfect boyfriend!

“Tina hasn’t seen his really evil side yet though – I’m looking forward to the time when she discovers it.

“David has been so desperate to find a girlfriend and that means he doesn’t want to mess anything up at the moment.”

Will the terrible teen be on his best behaviour now that he’s in love? We don’t believe it for a minute.

However, the Corrie stars have confirmed that there’s big trouble in store for David and Tina.

“There’s a big domestic situation coming up, but we can’t say too much,” said Michelle.

Jack added: “There’s torment ahead for David and Gail. If they thought things were bad before, just wait…”

CORRIE hunk Tom Hudson is leaving the soap in a storyline which sees his character Paul Clayton torch Leanne Battersby’s restaurant in an insurance scam.

Paul – Jack Duckworth’s grandson – sets fire to the failing business after ex-hooker Leanne (Jane Danson) bribes him with sexual favours.

The steamy storyline is set to hit screens in April and will climax in May as Tom flees the Street.

Tom, 21, told TV Biz: “I’ve loved it on Corrie but I’ve got other things planned.”

But he hinted that it won’t be the last time Street fans see him. The actor said: “Paul’s just like his dad Terry and he’ll definitely return to Weatherfield to cause more trouble for his grandad.”

He added: “It’s a great storyline – exactly the kind of exit I hoped for.”

Viewers have seen Paul, who works in Leanne’s restaurant Valandros, falling for the maneater since he helped her set up the business last year.

And when Leanne makes her indecent proposal – Paul can’t resist.

A show source said: “Leanne is Paul’s ideal woman. So when she offers him the chance to get into her knickers, he jumps at it.”

Paul will leave when the insurance scam backfires and cops issue a warrant for his arrest.

Our source added: “The police get involved and Paul is determined not to go to jail.”

JACK P Shepherd narrowly escaped serious injury after a car mowed him down during a tricky stunt sequence this week.

The Corrie actor, 20, who plays evil teen David Platt, intended to brush against the speeding car but he slipped into the vehicle’s path and was sent sprawling.

The scenes, airing in March, see David running away from the Street after pushing his mum Gail down the stairs.

Teen Chesney Battersby-Brown is reunited with his mutt Schmeichel after being taken into care. The youngster showers the pooch with kisses when pal Kirk Sutherland brings him to visit at the children’s home where Chesney is being looked after.

Chesney ends up in the arms of the authorities after they are tipped off that the house he shares with Kirk is infested with rats.

It has become a a tip since Chesney’s heartless mum Cilla (Wendi Peters, 39) fled Weatherfield and her family for a new life in Las Vegas.

The boys cannot afford to call in an expert firm to catch the rodents.

So they set about trying to solve the problem themselves, planting traps laced with cheese and peanut butter.
But to their despair, the rats lap up the grub without being snared.

Dozy Kirk (Andy Whyment, 28) is desperate to keep the infestation secret from his Corrie neighbours.

But he is almost caught out when nosy neighbour Norris Cole pops round to complain about the noise.

Newsagent Norris (Malcolm Hebden, 67) spots a trap in the hallway and demands to know if the lads have pests.

Quick as a flash Chesney (Sam Aston, 14) replies: “No, it’s for a project at school.

“It’s called Mouse Nous and we’ve got to find out everything we can about mice.”

An insider revealed: “That seems to appease Norris, and the rodents remain a secret for a while.

“But it’s not long before the infestation starts to spread and their neighbours are forced to share their scurrying friends
as well.”

Tom Hudson has confirmed that he is leaving Coronation Street in an explosive storyline.

The actor's character Paul Clayton - Jack Duckworth's grandson - will flee Weatherfield after setting fire to Leanne Battersby’s (Jane Danson) restaurant.

The chef has been trying to stop the ailing Valandros eatery going under but finally agrees to torch it for the insurance after Leanne promises to sleep with him.

However, a warrant is issued for his arrest when the plan goes wrong.

The 21-year-old told The Sun: “I’ve loved it on Corrie but I’ve got other things planned.”

But he indicated that he may return to the cobbles in the future, saying: "Paul’s just like his dad Terry and he’ll definitely return to Weatherfield to cause more trouble for his grandad.”

Talking about his exit, he added: “It’s a great storyline - exactly the kind of exit I hoped for.”

Viewers will see Paul leave the Street to avoid capture in May. The news comes only days after the announcement that co-star Rob James-Collier (Liam Connor) will be leaving at the end of the year over "typecast fears".

I'd really like to see some old characters this year, maybe Curly and Emma should return and move into the Morton's place (the Morton's should be axed), and maybe Karen McDonald should make a re-appearance to cause some tention between Michelle and Steve. I'd also like to see Mad Maya back, she was one of the street's best characters. If i'm right in thinking, her jail sentence is almost up.

Also, I think that Alex should move into the Rovers, and the audience would follow the relationships develop between Michelle and Alex, and also Alex and Ryan. Then Michelle, Steve, Ryan and Alex would move out of The Rovers and into a new house.
Maybe some of the minor characters should be given a bigger role. We haven't seen Archie for a little while, so maybe he could come back for a while. I've heard a rumour that Martin Platt is returning in 2008 to help Gail deal with David, so maybe Gail and Martin could get back together, which would be great as they've been apart for years.

The reason for this behaviour is that Tina aborts the baby she's expecting, without telling David she's pregnant. When he overhears Gail and Tina talking about it, he sees red and blames her. “These are some of the most dramatic scenes of the year," says the insider. "David’s rage is off the dial. Normally he takes his time plotting revenge on his enemies but on this occasion he snaps."

Actor may become new Corrie hunk

Jack Ryder is tipped to become Coronation Street's new hunk when actor Rob James-Collier(Liam Connor) leaves the show.

Real-life wife Kym Ryder, 31, is already a Weatherfield lass and ex-EastEnder Jack is said to quite fancy the idea of helping her prop up the bar in the Rover's Return.

But the role isn't a dead cert for the 26-year-old. Hollyoaks hunk Stuart Manning (Russ Owen) and another Albert Square refugee - Strictly Come Dancing star Matt Di Angelo - are also tipped to be in the running.

'Kim has been a huge success as Michelle and there is no reason why Jack couldn't do the same,' an insider tells the Daily Star.

So someone who has come from a background like that to make something of herself. I wouldn't want to see either Jack or Matt take a role like that. I'd like to see someone new into acting rather than pulling in established actors.

Kym married Jack Ryder on the 10th of August 2002 and, after settling in St Albans, the couple had early difficulties and split for a short while before reconciling. In light of her regular roles in north-west-produced dramas, while Jack generally tours in theatre, the couple moved to Manchester and closer to Kym's family in 2005.

Kym has two children, David aged 12 and Emily aged 10, from a previous relationship with Dave Cunliffe.

Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly says plans are being made to put her in one of the soap's most prized jobs - a Rovers Return barmaid.

"It's been two years since I joined the Street and 18 months since I started working in the café and became a cast regular," Kelly told The Daily Record

"Now the Rovers keeps getting mentioned. They'd like her to work behind the bar - but I reckon Becky would sup all the profits," she added.

Kelly, whose character Becky Granger was once homeless, has mixed feelings about the move. She feels it may be disloyal to Roy Cropper, currently her boss at Roy's Rolls.

"I like Becky's connection with Roy. He's really put his trust in her," she said.

Becky will take charge of the café next week when Roy heads of to visit his wife Hayley.

"Becky has done well," Kelly adds.

"She came into the show homeless and when Roy comes back she'll move into Roy's permanently as a lodger."

We've read the spoilers about Tony Gordon stealing the keys to Carla's flat. And now Gray O'Brien, the actor who plays him in Coronation Street, pops up in an ITV.com video to give his take on it.

"I think if Tony had any idea that Carla had feelings for Liam he'd probably have a go at Liam, to be honest," he says. "I don't think he does have any idea, really. He needled her to begin with when she was overly interested in Liam when he hurt himself in the mountaineering thing, but I think if he thought there were feelings harboured, he'd be a very unhappy chappie."

So why does he break into Carla's flat? "Tony's motive is twofold - it's romantic and it's lustful. He's completely fantasised about her all day and he wants his wicked way, and this is his way of seeing it. Anyone else would see it as stalking behaviour; he sees it as a bit of fun."

He continues, "When he broke into her flat he was purely interested in the lust factor. He thought it would be much more exciting, more dynamic than taking her out for a meal with candles. He's done all that before. He's a very affluent guy, Tony, so he can afford to do what he wants to do. It's probably close to crossing the line, but it does the trick because Carla falls straight back into his arms."

Personally, I'd be setting Becky on him, but Gray doesn't think Tony's behaviour is that weird. "I think Tony's a bit of a free spirit, like Carla. I think he probably likes to be in control, and I think he likes to know what's happening in his life. I think there's lots more to expect from Tony Gordon in the coming year. He's got a few business ventures up his sleeve. I think he'll get to the bottom of this romance between Carla and Liam - and watch out, Liam!" Yikes! Just don't bruise his face...
