If you're a Coronation Street fan desperate to see roguish charmer Danny Baldwin back on the cobbles, you'll have to wait a bit longer.

Actor Bradley Walsh, who left the soap last year to pursue other projects, is heading for the bright lights of This Morning's studio to fill in for regular hosts Fern Britton and Phillip Schofield.

Speaking about the opportunity, he told Sky Showbiz: "I have never really done this before."

He added: "I love the show and I may throw a bit of (Corrie's) Danny in too."

I absolutely adore Alison King. She really has grown on me as an actress and a character. I know she's not everyone's cup of tea but she's not one of Corrie's stereotypical bitchy women - she's just right. Just the right amount of cow-age. And some great lines from the script writers.

I wasn't sure about the Carla-Liam storyline at the beginning but now Maria's pregnant by him and he's about to get down on bended-knee in preparation for the soap's 71st wedding, it's all getting good. But will Liam and Carla allow their feelings to get the better of them?

Just after Christmas, however, tragedy strikes following Liam and Maria's romantic weekend away. And I've heard somewhere that Liam's life is left hanging in the balance...

Elsewhere, Kevin Webster is looking at a long stretch courtesy of HM The Queen for his brutal attack on Rosie's teacher John after rumbling their affair; David (finally) settles down when he's caught up in a romance with a new love interest; while Dan and Harry Mason make their mark on the Cobble.

I'm so glad Jack Ellis is back on our screens, too. He's probably been off television for the right amount of time to be able to distance himself from his old Bad Girls character, Jim Fenner.

All in all, Corrie's shaping up pretty well at the moment. It's been the first time in a long while that I've actually sat down, watched a week's worth of episodes and said the words 'It's getting good'.

It almost makes me think that Kim Crowther's name is on the producer's office door already. I joke. Steve Frost has had his good and bad times with Corrie. But hey, that's the nature of soap. He's certainly no former EastEnders producer who'll remain unnamed, that's for sure.

In all, Steve's done a good job with Corrie but now it's time to move aside and let someone else have their time in the chair. Good luck, I say. What's the odds on Kim Crowther following in the footsteps of Diederick Santer and bringing back a (couple of) key character(s) from the past? My money's on Suranne Jones.

Producers have warned Coronation Street stars that they must not "urinate in the open air" while they film scenes in the Lake District this week.

The ban was included on a new list of rules for the shooting of the dangerous scenes which show factory boss Liam Connor (Rob James-Collier) dropping off a 300ft cliff.

The dramatic footage will also show Liam's girlfriend, Maria Sutherland (Samia Smith), falling into a river.

As a result the cast have been told that they must always have "both hands free" to keep themselves balanced on location. Cast and crew must also make sure they do not wander off the set paths and hard hats must be worn.

A source revealed the male cast members found the no urinating rule humorous but that they will take the new rules on board. The insider said: "The rules are unprecedented but even those who joked about the no-peeing one have accepted them.

"It's just that Cumbria will be freezing - so we'll be more susceptible to calls of nature."

The Star today reports that, when Vera shuffles off this mortal coil next year, the blue and yellowish stone cladding that she was so proud of on her house won't be far behind. The cladding has been a familiar landmark in Coronation Street since 1989, but when Tyrone and Molly buy the house, Molly decides the whole house needs a complete makeover, outside and in.

And we may all be given a chance to own a piece of Corrie history, as the Star's Corrie insider says: “It was decided that when [Vera] goes, the cladding should go as well. There has already been one suggestion that it could be auctioned off for charity.”

On 3 December, two new characters arrive in Coronation Street, and ITV.com profiles them in its Arrivals Lounge feature. Jack Ellis and Matthew Crompton play father and son Harry and Dan Mason, who will be taking over the long-neglected bookies.' In a video interview, they discuss their new roles.

Jack says of his character, "The father is on his third divorce. He needs to hide his assets, so he buys the bookies." Matthew adds, "The son is a total failure at running a business, so he ends up working with his dad." Living with him, too, as they end up sharing a very small flat - with one bed!


Jack continues, "Harry's from Harrow, somewhere like that. He's not East End, he's a bit Estuary in terms of accent, with lower middle class/working class roots. He ended up on the fringes of the criminal fraternity in London, ended up with a bit of cash, so now he's gone legit really."

Matthew says, "Theres a Mrs Mason for Harry. Dan doesn't have a missus because he's young and he's watched his dad go through all these divroces, so he wants to stay footloose and fancy free. They'll go for the same woman, definitely - they're sharks." Uh-oh - do we sense a Jamie/Leanne/Danny love triangle type thing in the air?

Jack predicts a bit of wheeling a dealing for Harry, but he says, "Harry likes to take the long view. He's learned from his early days. There will be scams on the horizon!"

Both of them are delighted to be working on the world's favourite soap. Matthew says that, "Working on Corrie is amazing. It's a legendary show, I'm honoured to be in it." Jack adds, "I was a bit scared to start with, but I'm really loving it and they're great people. It's a good show, it's a funny show." He admits that he's had to adapt to a new way of working: "It's totally different to anything I've done before. It's interesting, it's a learning curve, but it's made so much easier by the people in it." Both of them are slightly star struck by the iconic set: "You walk in the Rovers and you think, 'Ena Sharples sat here. It's very special," Jack says, and Matthew adds, "It's quite surreal. I'm still looking around going 'Wow!'"

Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe has said he'd love to have a part in Coronation Street. “I love Corrie," he told The Sun. "Being in that would be fun.” At 18, he's a tiny bit too old to play the Duckworths' grandson R-Tommy (who was mentioned recently), but I'm sure there must be a missing love child of Ken Barlow that he could play.

Meanwhile, another star who wanted to be on Corrie, and actually auditioned, was Kimberley Walsh of the mega-successful girl-band Girls Aloud. Apparently she once went for the part of Maria Sutherland, which went to Samia Smith of course.

And two people who are already in Corrie but are keen to branch out are Zeta Baguley and Sue Tray. You've probably never heard of Zeta and Sue, but you'll have seen them. They work as extras, stitching knickers and milling about behind the speaking characters at Underworld. But they've had enough of being in the background, so they recently turned up for auditions for the next series of Big Brother. Zeta said, "I am nearly 40 and I'm having a mid-life crisis."

love a good bit of alliteration, and the Star's "seven days of seasonal scrapes" description of this coming Christmas on Corrie is a good one.

The Star has a few more details about the festive fisticuffs that we've already heard about. When Kevin finds out about Rosie and Mr Stape, he will "batter the love-rat teacher until he realises he is on the brink of killing him," apparently. We're not disposed to violence here at Corrieblog Towers, but I think we can all relate to Kevin's hatred of Stape and after a few sherries will probably be cheering him on.

The rest of the violence revolves around Jim McDonald. The moustache has gone, but the propensity to let his fists do the talking hasn't. The Star says that Jim will try to snog Liz and, when this fails, will "grapple with her." Vernon witnesses this grappling, leaps in to defend his fiancee and gets a "pummeling" for his trouble, as does best man Bob who tries to help him. Steve has to step in and calm things down. The Star's tame "insider" says, “When Jim grabs hold of Liz looking for a kiss, you can tell by looking at him that he’s a crazed beast about to snap.”

Beverley Callard has been giving an insight into how Liz feels about Jim's return. "She wants him to stay away because she’s worried what he might do, but I think she’s also afraid of herself and her own feelings for him," she says. “Liz knows he’s not good for her but she also knows that they have spent 27 years together and she just can’t resist him. She finally gets used to the idea of him being back and when Jim turns up in the Rovers and seems much more placid and easygoing, they start to chat and there's just a chemistry between them that they can’t avoid.”

But what about Vernon? According to Bev, "Liz knows Vernon’s a bit of a wally, but he does truly love her and he’ll always be loyal, but she wants a bit more excitement. She actually says to Deirdre that she knows Vernon will look after her better than anyone else but she wants a bit of danger and spontaneity.”

Danger and spontaneity aren't words you'd associate with Vernon, it's true, but Liz had some D&S when she had her fling with Derek the Drayman, and she still came back to the dimbo drummer, so who knows where it will end?

Chris Moyles may make a cameo appearance in Coronation Street as a Liverpudlian "scally", say reports.

Moyles is currently touring Northern England with his Radio 1 breakfast show and is reportedly a huge fan of the soap.

According to the The Sun, Moyles may be cast as Lloyd Mullaney's (Craig Charles) "scally" cousin.

An ITV source commented: "Coronation Street is Chris’s favourite soap and he’d welcome the chance to film some scenes.

"He loves Craig Charles’ character, so to come in as one of his relatives would be perfect."

Two lots of spoilers to trouble you with this morning, both concerning the Connor family. So good-looking yet so unlucky...

Liam first, and according to the Star, wedding plans between Maria and Liam are going to get quite advanced. He buys her a huge diamond ring, but the plan is to leave the wedding until after the baby is born. Then the couple have their nasty accident in the Lake District, and Liam decides to bring the wedding forward (so at least he doesn't die, then). When he picks up his large family to travel from Ireland, Maria feels outnumbered by Connors and persuades all their mutual friends (Jamie?) to sit on her side of the church.

But it's Carla who creates most of the tension. The Star's insider says, “People will be wondering whether Carla will put the ceremony in doubt by declaring her true feelings for Liam. Like most Coronation Street weddings, there’s always someone to throw a spanner in the works.”*

Meanwhile, Kym Ryder has been talking about the stalker storyline...

Sir Derek Jacobi has revealed that he would love to get a part on Coronation Street and has enlisted the help of cast member Bradley Walsh to help him make it happen.

The thespian met Walsh, who plays factory boss Danny Baldwin in the soap, while they were filming upcoming ITV1 drama The Old Curiosity Shop.

Sir Derek is hoping he can work with Walsh again on the soap when he returns to film his final scenes.

Jacobi said: "The plan is that when he returns he’s picked up by an old chum from the East End – where I’m from. I’d love to play that old rogue."

A Coronation Street insider said: "We are aware that Sir Derek is a fan and would love to get him on board."
