Inside Soap has alarmed me this week with news of an upcoming accident in which Liam (Rob James-Collier) is going to be seriously hurt. I'm just hoping that there'll be no scarring on that beautiful face.
Apparently he's going to take Maria (well, it just says "his girlfriend, so I'm guessing it's Maria, but you never know in Coronation Street) for a romantic trip to the Lake District, and it's here that the tragedy happens. And the consequence of it will be that the true extent of his feelings for Carla will become obvious. Yikes!
Elsewhere in Inside Soap's "2008 Yearbook," Rob James-Collier reveals that he's still a tad embarrassed by his "Sexiest Male" Inside Soap award, and that he's getting recognised in the street more often these days. He also talks about his Corrie heroes...
"I love Bill Tarmey (Jack Duckworth)," he says. "I genuinely think he's one of the greatest comedy actors I've ever seen. There are all of these amazing light touches that Bill uses in his scenes - the ad-libs and the hilarious faces."
Another of his heroes is Betty Driver (Betty Williams): "You watch her next time she's on. She'll have no more than a couple of lines in a scene, but she'll steal it off all the other actors with just a comedy reaction. It's simple, and also fantastic!"

Kevin's Banged Up
It looks as if dad-of-two Kevin could be spending 2008 behind bars! Finding it hard to control his spiralling anger after learning that daughter Rosie has been having an affair with John, the raging mechanic lashes out and punches the cradle-snatching tutor. But the long-time Weatherfield resident's left bitterly regretting his actions when he's charged with assult and sent down!
Love For David!?!
The New Year will be a great start for dastardly David, as he's set to get his first girlfriend! As a newcomer to the cobbles, she has no idea about the tearaways evil antics - but will their relationship survive when she sees his true colours?
Ta-ra Vera
Hankies at the ready, for one of Weatherfield's most beloved residents bids farewell in late January. With actress Liz Dawn hanging up Vera's pinny for good, will there be a tearful ending to Jack and Vera's 50-year marriage?
Tragedy for Liam
Liam and Maria's romantic getaway turns into tragedy for the factory boss will have a terrible accident in the Lake District. Even as his emotional girlfriend prays that her beau will pull through, she's shocked to discover the true extent of his feelings for former sister-in-law Calra. How will the stunned beauty react?

Fighting talk with Corrie's Alison King
Helen Tither
6/11/2007
NEVER mind stunt doubles and fake fighting - when Alison King heard about her forthcoming fisticuffs in Coronation Street she couldn't wait to get started.
In fact, the feisty actress would rather like to have more action scenes in future. If only to get some exercise on set.
"I've got soap bloat," she laughs. "I'm bloating up - I'm not getting any exercise at the moment. Maybe it's having had no summer and eating a lot. I really need to get down the gym but there's no incentive is there?"
Of course, you couldn't really say life has been quiet on set for the 34-year-old actress since she arrived in Weatherfield as bad girl Carla Conner.
"Since she turned up with a bottle of champagne in each hand at the Underworld Christmas party - being a co-owner now of the factory - she's helped cover up the death of a Polish worker and seen hubbie Paul die in a dramatic car crash.
All change
However, things are set to get a bit more hectic in the weeks to come as her lover's ex-wife Lindsey turns up (in the form of former Footballers' Wives star Susie Amy).
Having not yet filmed the most dramatic scenes, Alison is eager not to give away any details - but reveals sultry siren Carla will be on the receiving end of a slap.
"Yes, I get slapped - which is probably everybody's dream to see Carla get a smack," she says. "I know it more or less knocks me down - I'll have to let you know how I get on!
"I always think you should do the slap for real. They always have a safety guy on set anyway. I've done a lot of action films actually - I like getting involved. I've kicked people, shot them and all kinds of things."
Jackie Chan
Before appearing on Coronation Street, Alison did indeed work on films such as martial arts movie Shanghai Nights with Jackie Chan. Although many TV fans will remember her for football drama Dream Team.
Whatever the part, you can guarantee she normally ends up playing a feisty glamorous female. Although in real life she says that's far from the truth.
"I always seem to be playing bitchy women that are a bit older than me," she ponders. "Perhaps it's because of the accent or the way I hold myself.
"But I would quite like to play somebody like me that wears baggy jeans and t-shirts, a bit of a tomboy girl. More of an action role.
"I do like to get dressed up but most of the time I'm just in flared jeans and trainers."
While Alison seems too busy filming to be too much of a party animal these days - she did used to be a regular on the Manchester party scene back in the 90s when she dated former Corrie star Phil Middlemiss. Although those days seems long gone, she says now.
New start
"It seems like another life time ago." she says. "That gap from 25 to 34 is a long time. Sometimes I meet somebody from 10 years ago and I can't remember anything."
Life has moved on for Leicester-born Alison since then - although she has been up and down for work in the city since, including a stint as the official face of Boddingtons before the factory closed down.
Nowadays she spends her time between here and London but can get recognised wherever she goes thanks to the global appeal of Corrie.
"I've been doing this game for 10 years now and been in the public eye but with Coronation Street you are in everybody's living room so the attention is more noticeable. Even if you went out in a cap and a moustache you'd get spotted.
"But, touch wood, I've not had any downsides. I just get on with everything I normally do - I'm not a glitzy person anyway so it's not really changed my life.
Friendly
"In London everyone is a bit too cool for school and doesn't bother with you. But up here people stop for a chat which is dead nice."
Making full use of that celebrity spotlight, Alison has been lending her support to a few good causes - recently fronting a campaign to raise money for charity Breast Cancer Campaign with thermal manufacturer Damart, which produced a special limited edition vest. It's a cause she says lies close to her heart.
"I said yes straight away to this campaign - because I feel I can bring it home in a way. People might not realise breast cancer hits a lot of people my age and younger.
"I'm very fortunate not to have any immediate family affected but everyone is touched by it.
Sympathy
"I had a friend who died of breast cancer in her early 40s, the most beautiful lady, and it's very hard to understand.
"So I think everyone should be breast aware. I found a lump when I was 17 or 18, it was like a little pea that went from one side to the other. I had never felt that before so I got it checked.
"They sent me to the hospital for a mammogram and to take a sample. It just turned out to be a cyst. But you know a lot of people are in denial even about little things like that."
After taking time out of her busy schedule for a campaign photoshoot, she reckons it's nose to the grindstone on set from now until Christmas - when she is planning to "curl up like a cat and hibernate for two weeks".
Although, it's not been all work and no play, as Alison did manage to find romance on set in the form of cameraman Adam Huckett.
"Yes, I've been lucky - it's wonderful," she says, giving little away, and with that it's back to the Street.

Another generic Corrie exit. :D

06-11-2007, 09:44 PM
an iconic one though, with a classic christmas song being played by a band outside the Rovers, and when Karen reached the cab, they switched to playing "Coronation Street"

LoL that won't go down too well with anybody. I'm suprised Lizz hasn't mentioned anything about him being released. I would have thought that she'd be worried about it, with his record of violence.
Let's hope Jim has learnt fron prison and he can stick around on the Street for a while, stirring things up between Lizz and Vernon.
When is he coming? End of November? I bet that'll be another Monday episode.

CORRIE 2017 SPOILER!
Corrie: Audrey's life is left hanging in the balance
Wednesday, November 1 2017, 04:04 GMT
By Kris Green, Soaps Editor
The contractors start work early again at The Rovers, waking Braden and Lauren for the fifth day in a row. As Braden fumes about the building work over breakfast, Lauren's more interested as to who the new owner could be. There's a knock at the door - it's Lyle. Braden slips away to the 'toilet' but quietly opens the safe and pulls out a cardboard envelope with 'LLM' scrawled on the front. Downstairs, Lauren's talking to Lyle about The Rovers and Lyle tells her that he's met the new owner and that he's a nice guy - apparently he'll be showing his face at around 7pm to check how the renovation is coming along. An edgy Braden hands Lyle a disc 'with last night's football' on it and walks him to the front door...
David emerges from number three and sees Lyle walking towards his car. He turns to kiss Rosie but she's spotted Lyle, too. David tells Rosie that he'll see her at the factory later. He walks across the Cobbles and opens the factory shutters. Jenna calls David's mobile just as his watch strikes 9am. Dismissing her immediately, David tells her that he hasn't the time for anyone messing him around today - he's got the three other factories to visit before the day's out. As the workforce arrive, David makes a call to the number he's been calling every morning for two months - and he's shocked by who answers...
Following yesterday's bust up with Steve, Tracey is still on the warpath. Steve, however, is still is disbelief as to how a mother can lock their own child out of the house for an entire six hours. While Tracey settles into her new home with Lyle, Amy continues to ask for her dad and grandma. Steve continues to look for a more permanent home as the flat above the cab office is beginning to look and smell like a zoo.
Later, Lyle arrives on the Street and immediately heads for Streetcars. When Steve answers the door, Lyle warns him off Tracey and Amy. But when Steve insists that he'll continue seeing his daughter at whatever the price, Lyle laughs in his face and walks away. Struggling to come to terms with the loss of Michelle, Amy and The Rovers, Steve retreats into the murky depths of his makeshift abode, slumps into the sofa and pulls a blanket over him - it's going to be a long night. With his willpower fading fast, what will Steve resort to in order to get his life back on track?
Elsewhere, Audrey's finalising the paperwork for the sale of the Salon. She's not met the owner yet but she's pleased that she can finally retire in peace. The solicitor tells her that the new owner will drop by later today to introduce himself. Maria gets a phone call from James asking her to meet him in town. Just as Maria tells him that she's busy, Audrey interrupts, telling her that everything will be fine and she should go off and have a nice evening with her fiancé. Maria walks out of the salon, leaving Audrey by herself.
As dusk dawns on Weatherfield, a shiny, black car pulls up outside the Rovers. Audrey walks to the window, assuming the new owner has finally arrived. Audrey turns the bolts on the Salon door just as the mystery man unlocks the Rovers. She looks across the Street and realises that it must be the new owner of the pub. The moment Audrey turns to walk back inside, she's violently struck on the back of her head and falls to the floor...
Maria and Lyle are each seen clutching their mobile phones, while a hooded figure walks towards a parked car. They jump in the passenger seat and their hood is pulled back - a dishevelled Bethany smiles in the driver's direction. Sarah's slashed and bloodstained face is revealed as a tear rolls down her cheek. Why has she returned? Could she really have had a hand in her grandmother's murder?

Karen will return in June 2008 to stir up trouble for Steve and Michelle, when Steve asks her to marry him. There will be many cat fights between her and Michelle, when she falls for her brother Liam. She will become best friends with Janice and Leanne Battersby while working in Leanne's restaurant. We can confirm that Karen will become Sean's new friend to replace Violet Wilson after she leaves at the end of the year with his best mate Jamie. (From "All about soaps" mag)

Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan has admitted that the reaction to her character's new "sex kitten" status has been "strange" to deal with.
Flanagan's alter-ego Rosie Webster has undergone a major transformation this year and recently seduced her teacher, John Stape, in a shock storyline.
Helen has noticed that her experiences with some of the soap's fans have changed since the plot stared airing, but she is pleased that viewers are finding her performances believable.
"It's weird being thought of like that. But I guess it means I am doing well, because that side is all Rosie. She is the confident one who is using her sexuality to gain power over men," Flanagan told the Daily Star.
"I'm nothing like Rosie in real life so it has been a challenge for me - and it is all very strange. I was in the gym the other day and this guy winked and I was like: 'Oh my God, I can't believe you just did that!'"

Corrie's Bill Tarmey has signed a £180,000- a-year deal to stay on as Jack Duckworth.
The megabucks contract means he will carry on AFTER the death of screen wife Vera - and allows him to complete 30 years in the ITV soap.
Our source said: "Bill is not a well man but he aims to stay on screen to 2009 if the producers still want him.
"By then he'll have been in the show for 30 years which would be a real milestone."
Bosses feared ill-health would force Bill, 66, to retire from soap next year.
He was given just ten years to live after a quadruple heart bypass in 1986. He also suffers obstructive sleep apnoea, which leaves him gasping for air and permanently tired.
Just two weeks ago a bout of flu forced him to ring in sick and filming had to be rescheduled.
But the viewers' favourite has now convinced bosses he's well enough to continue.
Bill first appeared as pigeon fancier Jack in 1979 when he and screen wife Vera went to Gail and Brian Tilsley's wedding.
Slacker Jack later got a job as cellarman at the Rovers Return where he became a household name alongside Hilda Ogden (Jean Alexander) and Bet Lynch (Julie Goodyear).
But off screen, Bill, who is also a cabaret singer has been dogged by ill health. He had a stroke at 36 and almost died of a viral infection after the 1986 heart op.
He needed another bypass in 2002 and had to be brought back to life when his heart stopped after the eight-hour op.
Despite raising funds for heart disease charities he has always refused to give up smoking. He once said: "I could make it easier on myself. I could give up smoking. I could sit in a rocking chair. But that wouldn't be me. That would kill me sooner than the old ticker. If I die tomorrow, they'll have to prise the smile off my face because I've had such a good life."
Screen wife Liz Dawn, 68, announced she was quitting the Street in July after battling lung disease emphysema.
Bill, who lives with Alma, his wife of 45 years, and has a son Carl, 41, and daughter Sara, 37, has a deal which runs to the end of the year.
And his decision to stay on is a huge bonus to fans.
A Corrie spokesman said last night: "Bill has signed a new deal - we're delighted to have him on board. We never discuss their salaries

Sarah Platt's final scene in Coronation Street this Christmas will be based on classic 1940s movie Brief Encounter, it has been revealed.
Actress Tina O'Brien will say farewell to the soap next month and like in the epic film, her character Sarah will leave her man Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) standing alone on a train platform.
Scriptwriters have admitted that they used the film as a basis for the goodbye, which will see Platt being offered the chance of a new life by her long-lost uncle who invites her to live with him in Italy.
The pair are about to board the train to the airport when Jason decides to not move abroad with her and Sarah continues without him.
A show insider said: "There won’t be a dry eye in the house. It is pure romantic fiction. This is the final chapter of a love story which was destined to fail."

Corrie Wedding special coming up
Coronation Street - Wedding Special, on ITV1 tomorrow night (Wednesday 14 November) at 10pm, promises to lift the lid on some of Coronation Street's 69 weddings to date.
They include the first full Asian wedding to be depicted in soap - who can forget the sight of Dev on a horse? We learn how, behind the scenes, attention to detail ensured accuracy in the portrayal of the sacred marriage act, and how Mad Maya managed to ruin the day.
There's bigamy (Emily Bishop fell for the already-married Arnold Swain and Fred Elliot had a near miss with Eve Sykes. And of course there's Peter Barlow...), there's comedy (Tyrone’s proposal to Maria on Blackpool Tower, Derek’s proposal through the Kabin letterbox to a Mavis, and Roy Cropper’s proposal to Hayley in full John Travolta gear) and there's Gail Platt (marrying Brian twice before he was murdered; marrying Martin Platt before he cheated on her with a nurse; finally marrying Richard Hillman before he tried to kill her and her family).
Cast members past and present comment on what it’s like to film the wedding scenes, with contributions from: Brian Capron, Kate Ford, Chris Gascoyne, Simon Gregson, Shobna Gulati, Jimi Harkishin, Michael Le Vell, Sally Lindsay, Tina O’Brien, Sally Whittaker, William Roache MBE, Ryan Thomas, Sean Wilson and Helen Worth.

Winter Spoilers
Coronation Street
An ITV Productction for ITV1
As the residents of Weatatherfield bid farewell to 2007 and
The dramatatic sequence of events which rocked the cobbles,
2008 looks set to be every bit as gripping for viewers of Coronation Street.
The death of Corrie favourite Vera Duckworth (Elizabeth Dawn) will have far reaching consequences for her friends and family. There won’t be a dry eye in the house as the nation bids farewell to one of the street’s longest serving characters. Meanwhile there are celebrations as Maria (Samia Smith) and Liam (Rob James-Collier) prepare to tie the knot in the soap’s 71st wedding but with Liam and sister-in-law Carla (Alison King) still harbouring feelings for each other how will pregnant Maria cope – especially when a romantic weekend away almost ends in tragedy?
There’s drama too at the Rovers as Michelle’s (Kym Ryder) son Ryan (Ben Thompson) finally discovers the truth about the man who has been ‘stalking’ him outside school. Will the mother and son be able to come to terms with the enormity of the secret from their past which looks set to rip two families apart?
With Sarah gone, Jason (Ryan Thomas) and Gail (Helen Worth) try to pick up the pieces of their lives. Jason soon finds solace in the arms of another and Gail gets some comfort from the fact that David (Jack P Shepherd) finally seems to be settling down – thanks to the arrival of a new love interest for the wayward teenager. That other troubled family, the Websters, have their fair share of heartache to come as Kevin (Michael Le Vell) faces a prison sentence for his attack on school teacher John Stape (Graeme Hawley) and Rosie (Helen Flanagan) struggles to continue at school now the news of her affair is public.
New arrivals Dan (Matthew Crompton) and Harry Mason (Jack Ellis) continue to make their presence felt at the bookies and Lauren Wilson (Lucy Evans) proves she is no shrinking Violet.

14-11-2007, 07:33 PM
Coronation Street fans are in for yet another gripping storyline involving the Connor clan.
This time, its sultry barmaid Michelle who's in the spotlight - and it's for all the wrong reasons.
She gets the shock of her life when it emerges her son Ryan could have been swapped at birth for another baby boy.
In what promises to be an emotionally wrenching plot, Michelle is approached in the Rovers by a man claiming there was a mix-up on the day her son was born.
The stunning brunette plucks up the courage to go to see Alex, the lad in question, and is stunned as her life is turned upside down.
Images on Digital Spy show her reeling at the front door of a strange house as she is confronted by a young man who looks horribly familiar.
An ITV insider said: "She realises Alex is the spitting image of Ryan's dad Dean and runs away, sobbing uncontrollably.
"It's one of the most traumatic storylines in the soap's 47-year history."
It's sure to make for a heart-wrenching Christmas for the single mum.
The scenes will air next month.

ITV names soap supremos
Ben Dowell Guardian Unlimited Thursday November 15 2007 ITV today appointed Kim Crowther to the top job on Coronation Street, while Anita Turner will take the helm at Emmerdale, MediaGuardian.co.uk can reveal.
Crowther, who began working on Coronation Street more than six years ago and left in 2004 to develop other projects for ITV, will take the top post of producer in the new year to allow a handover period with the current producer, Steve Frost.
Soap supremos: Anita Turner, left, and Kim Crowther Frost will bow out at the end of March after two-and-a-half years. Kieran Roberts, the controller of drama for ITV in Manchester, will continue his role as executive producer.
Meanwhile at Emmerdale, Anita Turner, a former script editor on the series who has been working at independent Lime Pictures for the past two years, will take over from series producer Kath Beedles in January and be based in Leeds.
Both Frost and Beedles will remain with ITV Productions taking on what the network calls "important new roles in the drama department".
One of Beedles' first projects will be an Emmerdale related spin-off, which she hopes to produce during 2008.
The controller of drama for ITV in Leeds, Keith Richardson, continues his role as Emmerdale's executive producer.
Crowther, who joined Coronation Street as script editor in 2001 and quickly progressed to the role of series editor, said: "From my time as series editor while Richard Hillman gripped the nation, through to the current meltdown of David Platt, Corrie has proved it does things differently, having the ability to move, amuse and excite its audience all at the same time.
"I'm looking forward to building on the show's recent successes while creating must-see storylines for 2008 and beyond."
Turner has worked in television for 20 years, during which she has worked as script editor on Emmerdale and Coronation Street. She has also script edited Holby City.
Most recently, Turner was the development editor and script editor on a new drama, Apparitions, produced by Liverpool-based indie Lime Pictures.
"Thirty-five years and Emmerdale is still fantastic. Being given the chance to help it go from strength to strength is such an honour - I can't wait," she said.
The director of ITV Productions, John Whiston, said: "It's a time of change for the soaps. In the last couple of years under Steve and Kath and their teams, both soaps have defied gravity and held on to their massive audiences while all around were losing theirs.
"Both Steve and Kath are a terribly tough act to follow. That's why we are all thrilled that we've got Kim and Anita to step into their shoes. These jobs require passion, judgment, diplomacy, invention and above all superhuman stamina.
"I'm also just as excited that we've persuaded Steve and Kath to stay within the company. We will be unleashing them soon into the wider drama arena where I know they will deliver great new shows for ITV Productions."

Coronation Street has announced that Kim Crowther has been appointed Producer of the show.
Current Corrie Producer Steve Frost will bow out at the end of March 2008 after two and a half years on the soap.
Kim will join the show in the New Year to allow a handover period with Steve while Kieran Roberts, Controller of Drama for ITV, will continue in his role as Executive Producer.
Kim joined Coronation Street as Script Editor in 2001 and quickly progressed to the role of Series Editor. Prior to Coronation Street, Kim worked as a member of the storyline team on Emmerdale.
She trained as a director in America attending New York University and achieved her MA in Film Production at the Northern Film School in Leeds. Two of the short films she directed were screened in the ITV Yorkshire region prior to Kim deciding to move from film to television.
She is married to, Simon, a writer, and they have two children, three and a half year-old Danielle and Jake, who’s 13 months.
“I'm thrilled to be back working on the show that's closest to my heart,” Kim said. “From my time as Series Editor while Richard Hillman gripped the nation, through to the current meltdown of David Platt, Corrie has proved it does things differently, having the ability to move, amuse and excite its audience all at the same time.
“I'm looking forward to building on the show's recent successes while creating must-see storylines for 2008 and beyond.”
Steve is remaining in ITV Productions and will take on an important role in the drama department.
Emmerdale’s Producer, Kath Beedles, is also leaving at the end of the year. Click here to read more
Director of ITV Productions, John Whiston, said: “It’s a time of change for the soaps. In the last couple of years under Steve and Kath and their teams, both soaps have defied gravity and held on to their massive audiences while all around were losing theirs. That is because they are the best written, performed and produced shows on television. The ratings and the awards speak for themselves.
“Both Steve and Kath are a terribly tough act to follow. That’s why we are all thrilled that we’ve got Kim and Anita to step into their shoes. These jobs require passion, judgment, diplomacy, invention and above all superhuman stamina. Kim and Anita have proved they have all these qualities in abundance and I know they can’t wait to take over ITV’s crown jewels.
“I’m also just as excited that we’ve persuaded Steve and Kath to stay within the company. We will be unleashing them soon into the wider drama arena, where I know they will deliver great new shows for ITV Productions.”
