The premier for Out of Africa is being held in Manchester tonight
Former Coronation Street actress Wendi Peters reprises her role as Cilla Battersby-Brown this month in Corrie's comical DVD release Out of Africa. The feature film, set in the beautiful backdrop of South Africa, follows Cilla, Fiz, Kirk and Chesney as they vie to win Sun City's 'Family of the Year' contest. Here, DS catches up with Wendi to chat about her time filming the DVD, stepping back into Cilla's shoes and whether she'd consider a potential return to the Cobbles.
It must have been a dream come true filming in Africa!
"Yeah, it was really lovely. It was nice to be asked to do the project but the filming in South Africa was a bonus!"
How did you first hear about the project?
"Gavin [Blyth], the DVD producer – and the assistant producer at Corrie – phoned me up with the idea and asked how I felt about doing it. I said that it sounded great from what he told me, so he went ahead and sent me all the information. It all went from there."
How did the idea come about?
"I've no idea how the South Africa idea came about. In Corrie, Cilla went off to Vegas, so maybe with Sun City being similar to Vegas, Cilla decided that wanted to live there after a visit? I would think it's quite reasonable to live in South Africa because of the exchange rate, too. It's a great place, with so many different things to do."
What was it like playing Cilla again?
"It was really strange. I didn't really think about it until I went to Manchester for the script read through. I opened my mouth and she just poured out again. I was a bit worried about it, though. I drew up a list of pros and cons. I left Corrie of my own choice in order to move on, do different things, have a break and spend more time at home. One factor that I really did take into account was the fact it's a DVD and it's never going to be shown on TV. I didn't feel like I was going back to the series. It was just a great opportunity apart from anything else. And it was a great way for me to round off the character. She left in a bit of a hurry to Vegas, never to be seen again. This is just me saying a farewell to her."
In a nutshell, what's the DVD about?
"It's a chaotic carry on-type comedy. There are a few sensitive moments in there, but on the whole it's a farcical side of Coronation Street! It's a bit of fun. If you're looking for serious storylines and dramatic acting, it's not that. If you're looking for something to put in someone's Christmas stocking that they can sit down at four o'clock after they've watched The Queen on Christmas Day and laugh for a couple of hours, that's what it is."
What's your favourite part of the DVD?
"Thinking back, there were lots of scenes which were really good fun. I always love the cheeky dressing up bits and the parts with lots of action going on. I love the farce – the bits with Chesney going around in the wheelchair were hilarious. To be honest, some of the nicest bits are some of the two-hander scenes I have with Sam [Aston]. There are a couple of really nice moments where you realise that Cilla does still love Chesney and he still loves her, but they just don't know how to show it. I have to say, I loved going down that huge water slide! I didn't particularly like filming the bits in the African bush at midnight, though – they were a bit scary. We were in the middle of nowhere in Africa in the dark and then you hear lions starting to roar and you think 'oh my God'!"
You must get asked this all the time, but would you return to Corrie?
"[Laughs] Like I say, I've put her to bed for now, but I'd be stupid if I said I'd never go back. Never say never. Things change, things happen. In three or four years' time I might fancy resurrecting her. For now, I'm not really wanting to go back. I'm having a lovely time at home and doing other things. I'm very lucky that they've left the door open for Cilla to return – she's certainly not dead!"
What else are you working on at the moment? Do you have any other projects in the pipeline?
"I got back from doing the Corrie DVD and went on holiday for two weeks, then I went back to South Africa for 10 days to do Adrenaline Junkie with Jack Osbourne. I'm in the last episode of the series. We swam with great white sharks, did a bungee jump and skydived, amongst other things. It was scary, but it was great fun. I've had a lovely summer working with such great people. Now I'm spending a bit of time at home, doing a few voiceovers until the next big project comes up."
Coronation Street: Out of Africa is available to buy on DVD from Monday, November 10.

ITV soap Coronation Street is to team up with five 'Best of British' brands to mark its 50th anniversary.
According to Brand Republic, ITV Global Entertainment is looking to forge relationships with brands connected to tea, coffee, chocolate, soap and bread in the hope of drumming up a hive of marketing activity under the theme of 'bringing families together'.
Companies involved in the deals will be granted access to exclusive material from the show, as well as access to the soap's cast for various promotional opportunities. It is also expected that the 50th anniversary logo will be placed on the brands' product packaging.
It is expected that ITV will ink deals with the five brands by January.
Corrie reaches its milestone in 2010 and potential marketing opportunities are already being explored by the commercial broadcaster, including themed restaurants, tea sets and Underworld lingerie.

I was amused by this snippet from the showbiz gossip website Holy Moly. Their weekly email mailout has a section purporting to be extracts from the duty logs of viewers' calls to TV stations about programmes.
And, apparently, some eagle-eyed Corrie viewer has offered the following vital information to ITV:
"The car involved in Liam's death was K851VNC. I have passed this on to Greater Manchester Police. The driver was the same person who stole Kevin WEBSTER's breakdown truck who was paid off by Tony GORDON. Hope this helps."
Isn't it reassuring to know that there are such good citizens in the world?

IT’S a case of Santa CLAWS in Corrie over Christmas — with FOUR fights and an attempted murder.
Widow Maria Connor (Samia Smith) floors Tony Gordan (Gray O’Brien) — convinced he killed her husband Liam.
Twisted factory boss Tony, who has already throttled OAP Jed Stone (Kenneth Cope) and shoved him in a Christmas hamper basket — warns Maria: “I wouldn’t ever, ever do that again.
“There’s still plenty of space next to your husband and baby in that graveyard for you to join them.
Meanwhile, teens Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) and Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan) come to blows. Gail (Helen Worth) invites the Websters for dinner but the two girls are soon at each others’ throats.
After seeing Tina flirting with young newcomer Gary Windass (Mickey North) jealous Rosie calls her a “tart” and all hell breaks loose.
Tina retorts: “I’m not the one who dated a kidnapper twice my age” — and hair extensions are soon flying. Then a violent scrap breaks out between Gary and Tina’s boyfriend David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) after hunky Gary tells David: “Your bird’s gagging for me mate. I’m going to have her and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
And Joe McIntyre (Reece Dinsdale) settles an old score with Eddie Windass (Steve Huison) by showering him with Christmas dinner leftovers. A source said: “Gail is absolutely mortified.”

It's going to be a busy old Christmas in Coronation Street, not least for Emily Bishop, who apparently will be cooking up a twelve course traditional Polish feast for Wiki, Norris and Rita. Various fish dishes and dumplings with sauerkraut (I have that when I spend Christmas at my German in-laws) will be on the menu. "Corrie chiefs have caused uproar by replacing festive turkey with a Polish Christmas dinner," fumes the Daily Star, who claim that an un-named Corrie cast member called the idea "unpatriotic and worse than Scrooge." To me, it sounds like really good fun - I can't wait to see Norris's face.
Meanwhile, The Sun is revealing more about the Christmas plots, and Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without a few Corrie punch-ups. Click the continue reading link to find out who's thumping who.
- We'll see Tony throttling Jed Stone and dumping him in a hamper. Whether Jed lives or dies is going to be a Christmas cliffhanger.
- Maria punching Tony (yay!).
- A catfight between Tina and Rosie ("I'm not the one who dated a kidnapper twice my age," Tina points out, quite reasonably).
- David Platt and Gary Windass scrapping over Tina.
- Joe McIntyre dumping Christmas dinner over Eddie Windass.

Roy (David Neilson) is delighted that Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) has decided not to return to Africa but it is clear that she is still struggling to settle back into life in Weatherfield. She starts out by telling him that she doesn’t want to talk about it but by the end of the day she confesses that she had a crush on one of the staff in Africa and feels very foolish. Ever forgiving Roy tells her to pretend she has just returned and they will put it all behind them.
Steve (Simon Gregson) is on the phone to Becky (Katherine Kelly) reassuring her that he will be in court for her on Wednesday. But he soon discovers that isn’t going to be easy. Michelle’s (Kym Marsh) parents are coming over for their anniversary and she wants to throw a party for them. Becky is devastated when she discovers that she has lost her star witness.
Amber (Nikki Patel) has confided in Molly (Vicky Binns) that she told Tara (Ayesha Dharker) about Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) and Nina. Dev is still furious with her so Amber tells him she is going to spend some time with her mother in Finland. Meanwhile Minnie (Poppy Jhakra) asks if she can work in the kebab shop.
Tina (Michelle Keegan) and David (Jack P Shepherd) are keen to find out if Graeme (Craig Gazey) got rid of the car and are surprised when he says the Windasses stole it – problem solved.
Elsewhere Fiz (Jennie McAlpine), Kirk (Andrew Whyment) and Chesney (Sam Aston) return from South Africa and agree not to talk about what Cilla did. Fiz asks for her job back but Tony (Gray O’Brien) gives Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) the job instead.
This episode is written by Peter Whalley, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Kay Patrick.

PI for the rest of the week follows:
Monday 24 November 8.30pm
Steve (Simon Gregson) is relieved when Michelle (Kym Marsh) announces that she is taking her mum and dad out in the morning which is just the solution that Steve and Becky (Katherine Kelly) need to allow him to go to the court case. But his relief is short lived when Michelle presents him with a list of things to do whilst she is out tomorrow. As the day continues Becky is faced with more and more evidence of how much she is asking Steve to risk and after hearing Liz talking about how Michelle has grown on her and Barry saying how much Steve is part of the Connor family, Becky reaches a difficult decision.
Amber (Nikki Patel) won't listen to Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) as he tries to stop her from leaving. She says goodbye to Darryl (Jonathon Dixon) who has been left jobless and homeless, knowing that he may not be there when she returns. But it isn't long before Dev realises that he can't run the kebab shop alone and has to go cap in hand to a relieved Darryl.
Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) is raring to go helping Roy (David Nielson) out at the cafe but Roy has everything sorted leaving her feeling somewhat redundant. It isn't until both Becky and Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) makes it clear to her how much they struggled with their problems when she wasn't around that she starts to realise she might have a talent she can put to good use.
Elsewhere Gary (Mikey North) is annoyed when he realises he did David (Jack Shepherd) and Graeme (Craig Gazey) a favour by getting rid of the stolen car.
This episode is written by Martin Allen, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Duncan Foster.

Wednesday 26 November 7.30pm
It is the day of Becky's (Katherine Kelly) court case and she is convinced that without Steve (Simon Gregson) to testify she will definitely go down. Steve meanwhile knows he should be grateful that he doesn't have to go to court but somehow it doesn't feel that way. As the time of the case draws nearer Steve tries desperately to get away but it seems everything is conspiring against him. When he does get to the court he is frustrated to discover the case has been postponed to the afternoon and he has to resort to desperate measures to get there. Once on the witness stand he is stunned to see Blanche (Maggie Jones) in the public gallery - but committed to helping Becky he surprises himself and everyone else with the heartfelt character witness and alibi he gives. As Becky is acquitted Steve tries to to convince Blanche that he was merely helping out a friend but when Becky comes out of court his real emotions take over - shocking both himself and Becky.
Tony (Gray O’Brien) is surprised and delighted when Carla (Alison King) arrives home unexpectedly but he knows he will now have to come clean about taking the money from the account. Carla rather likes this new vulnerable side to Tony and after he takes her out for a romantic meal she turns the tables on him and proposes.
Gary (Craig Gazey) and Len (Connor Ryan) have come up with a plan to get their own back on the Platts - without anyone getting hurt. Waiting till the coast is clear they sneak into the house and a stunned Gail (Helen Worth) returns to find not only is the cupboard bare but it doesn't even exist any longer, neither does the cooker, sink, dishwasher - or any of the kitchen for that matter.
Elsewhere Michelle's (Kym Marsh) parents’ party goes to plan - despite Steve's elaborate plans to get to the court case. Norris (Malcom Hebdon) has a date with a fellow competition addict and Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) gets an interview for a job at the youth centre.
This episode is written by Joe Turner, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Duncan Foster.

Friday 28th November 7.30pm
Steve (Simon Gregson) is desperate to see Becky (Katherine Kelly) but feels very guilty when Michelle (Kym Marsh) thanks him for making her parents’ anniversary a success. The day continues to get harder for him when Becky comes into the pub and offers to do a shift for him so he can spend some time with Michelle’s dad. But he flips when Jason (Ryan Thomas) arrives at the Rovers with a gift for Becky and embarrasses her with an outburst about what a rat Jason was.
The factory girls are relieved to see Carla (Alison King) but Sally (Sally Whittaker) is surprised when Tony (Gray O’Brien) announces that they are getting married. She tells Kevin (Michael Le Vell) who is also shocked but tells her they should forget all about the video, but he isn’t keen on Carla paying Rosie (Helen Flanagan) a visit.
Joe (Reece Dynsdale) and David (Jack P Shepherd) are preparing to rebuild the kitchen after the Windasses’ handy work. Gail (Helen Worth) is sick of Graeme (Craig Gazey) being around and tells David it is time his mate moved on.
Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) is worried about the interview convinced that she won’t get the job because a criminal record check is bound to reveal details of her past which will disqualify her. Roy (David Neilson) however thinks they would be fools not to employ her.
Elsewhere Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) is struggling to run the kebab shop but Tina’s not interested in a job until he reluctantly raises the rate of pay.
This episode is written by Mark Burt, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Duncan Foster.

Friday 28 November 8.30pm
Becky (Katherine Kelly) can’t believe that Steve (Simon Gregson) has told her he loves and gives him every opportunity to back out. But Steve convinces her he is serious and insists her he is going to tell Michelle (Kym Marsh) straight away. Once back at the pub though family life takes over and with Michelle and her family worrying about Maria’s (Samia Smith) scan he realizes that splitting up with Michelle is not going to be easy. Will he ever find the right moment to break the news?
Michelle, Barry (Frank Grimes) and Helen (Sorcha Cusack) go with Maria to the hospital for her appointment – she is terrified and almost backs out of it but is eventually persuaded to have the scan and is relieved when everything is fine.
Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) returns home from France and is greeted by Peter (Chris Gascoyne) and Simon (Alexander Bain) but is surprised when they disappear as soon as Ken (William Roache) arrives. Ken and Blanche (Maggie Jones) fill her in on what has happened whilst she has been away but Deirdre insists they are still going to be part of the boy’s life.
Joe (Reece Dynsdale) is having trouble with a credit card company but doesn’t admit it to Gail (Helen Worth). He is quizzed by Tina (Michelle Keegan) and tries to make out everything is fine but she is not convinced.
Rosie (Helen Flanagan) gets a visit from Carla (Alison King) and Tony (Gray O’Brien) and is confident that she has them both in the palm of her hand. Tony can see that Carla has no choice but to agree when Rosie asks for a pay rise and he asks Rosie to man the office when he takes Carla on honeymoon.
Elsewhere – there is disappointment for Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) but good news for Graeme (Craig Gazey).

Ken Morley has confessed that he would like to reprise his role as Reg Holdsworth on Coronation Street.
The actor, who portrayed the supermarket manager from 1989 until 1995, told The Press Association that he would return to the Street "if there's room for a 65-year-old good-looking fella".
Recalling his experiences on the ITV soap, he said: "I had a great time there. I was only there for five years. It seemed a lot longer but I was there for five years."
Morley, who was in attendance at the launch of the Coronation Street: Out Of Africa DVD, added that he would like to make his comeback in the 50th anniversary episode in two years' time.
"I wouldn't mind," he said. "I could come back as a 50-year-old, if they could roll the cameras back of course, that would be great."

CORRIE wheeler-dealer Pam Hobsworth’s life is left hanging by a thread after an explosion in a pigeon loft.
The New Year episode sees the Street celebrate with a fireworks display — but Pam has to contend with a much nastier blast.
Pam (Kate Anthony) and sidekick Darryl Morton (Jonathan Dixon) have been trying to sell cooking oil as their own brand of “biofuel”.
But Jack Duckworth (Bill Tarmey) finds out they have been storing the dodgy stuff in his bird loft and angrily orders them to move it.
When Pam loses the key, she decides to force the padlock off with a drill . . . and all hell breaks loose.
A Corrie source said: “When Pam comes to move the fuel, sparks fly from the drill and the biofuel catches fire, causing an almighty explosion.
“There are flames and feathers everywhere.”
But due to the fireworks at the Rovers Return, the rest of the Street don’t notice the explosion — at first.
And as the credits roll, Darryl is blasted into the air, while Pam lies unconscious.
Our insider added: “Viewers will see Darryl stirring as he lands. But it looks more serious with Pam.
“Viewers have warmed to her quirky character so they’ll be on tenterhooks to see if she survives. It’s a great cliffhanger to go into 2009 with.”

Carla (Alison King) is full of mystery as she tells Tony (Gray O'Brien) to wait in the office whilst she goes shopping with Leanne (Jane Danson) as she has arranged a surprise for him. Tony is less than impressed when the surprise turns out to be his brother Pat (Jamie Lee), who Carla has invited to the wedding. He pretends to be delighted but knows he has to keep Pat away from Maria (Samia Smith) - as she still believes Liam was Tony's best man because he had fallen out with his brother!
Meanwhile there is more hassle for Tony when Jed (Kenneth Cope) starts to make life difficult for him by demanding more money for the house he evicted him from. Later Jed fills an interested Kevin (Michael Webster) and Sally (Sally Whittaker) in on his dealings with Tony.
Steve (Simon Gregson) is desperate to get away and spend some time with Becky (Katherine Kelly) but Michelle (Kym Marsh) wants him to organise some farewell drinks for her parents. He manages to grab a few minutes in the car with Becky and tells her that his plan of being a bad boyfriend is working and he is starting to get on Michelle's nerves but, when Michelle's dad jokes about Steve proposing to Michelle, Becky is less than impressed and tells Steve that she doesn't want to just be his bit on the side.
Elsewhere Norris (Malcom Hebdon) finally wins a competition but still isn't happy and Peter (Chris Gascoyne) invites Leanne (Jane Danson) out for a drink.
This episode is written by David Lane, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Alan Wareing.

PI For the rest of the week follows:
Wednesday 3 December 7.30pm
It's the day of Tony (Gray O'Brien) and Carla's (Alison King) wedding - a day that Tony often wondered if he would ever see. As he prepares to head off for the hotel Pat (Jamie Lee) is surprised at the amount of animosity towards his brother from Emily (Eileen Derbyshire), Jed (Kenneth Cope) and Kevin (Michael Le Vell). Meanwhile Leanne (Jane Danson) arrives at Carla's flat, half expecting her to have done a bunk. But she seems determined to go ahead with it and arrives at the hotel looking every bit the blushing bride. As the bagpipes play she walks down the aisle to marry a delighted Tony.
Over at the Rovers, Steve (Simon Gregson) has managed to push Michelle (Kym Marsh) to the brink by first leaving the kitchen in a state and then not getting ready for the wedding in time prompting her to tell him to stay behind at the pub. Steve is delighted as this leaves him to spend the entire day with Becky (Katherine Kelly) who is doing a shift behind the bar.
Back at the wedding Maria (Samia Smith) has arrived wearing the last present that Liam bought her - she's dreading the day but is determined to get through it. But with the champagne flowing Sally (Sally Whittaker) is getting steadily drunker and when Carla makes a disparaging remark about Kevin she sees red. Spotting an upset Maria leaving the reception, she follows her outside. As Maria breaks down and tells Sally about how perfect Liam was and how she can't cope without him a drunken Sally can contain herself no longer and tells Maria about Liam and Carla's affair. When a stunned Rosie (Helen Flanagan) arrives to witness what her mum has done Sally snatches her mobile phone and shows the video footage as proof of her claims.
Devastated and furious Maria races through the hotel determined to have it out with Carla - will she get to her before the happy couple leave for their honeymoon?
Elsewhere Ken (William Roache) and Peter (Chris Gascoyne) row again over Peter's lack of parenting skills and Norris (Malcom Hedben) goes for a drink with Mary (Pattie Clare). Steve uses the situation with Maria to pick another fight with Michelle.
This episode is written by Damon Rochefort, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Alan Wareing .

Friday 5 December 7.30pm
It's the morning after the night before and Maria (Samia Smith) is in a state of shock. She wants answers and is determined to find out exactly what was going on between Liam and Carla (Alison King). Michelle (Kym Marsh) tries to convince her that a kiss does not necessarily mean an affair but Tom (Philip McGinley) admits that he did once wonder if there was something going on. Maria is like a woman possessed and realises that there is one person who might know a little bit more - Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan). Maria waits for her to leave the factory and tackles her about the affair, but she is shocked by what Rosie tells her.
Peter (Chris Gascoyne) is starting to get his act together and proudly tells Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) that he set three alarm clocks to ensure that he got Simon (Alexander Bain) up and ready for school in time. But he still hasn't quite got the hang of it and forgets Simon’s school bag.
Tina (Michelle Keegan) is worried about her dad and the amount of cash he is splashing out on Gail's (Helen Worth) new kitchen and when he gives her a jewellery box she asks him if he has taken out a dodgy loan, she's secretly pleased with the present but is concerned about Joe (Reece Dynsdale).
Elsewhere Molly (Vicky Binns) almost catches Tyrone (Alan Halsall) selling some of Pam's (Kate Antony) knock-off perfume.
This episode is written by Debbie Oates, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Alan Wareing.

Coronation Street's relative newcomer Craig Gazey returned to our screens last week as 'eccentric mentalist' Graeme Proctor. Viewers will recognise the 26-year-old Oldham actor as David Platt's (Jack P. Shepherd) cellmate from earlier in the year when David spent time a Young Offenders' Institute at Her Majesty's pleasure. Next week, Graeme joins David and Tina (Michelle Keegan) as they wreck the Windass family's kitchen. Yesterday, we caught up with Craig for his first interview since joining Corrie to chat about his acting career, his character, and potential on-screen love interests.
You've had some fantastic acting experience already with the Royal Shakespeare Company, haven't you?
"Yeah, it's great grounding - a fantastic place to start. I've done the Globe Theatre and the Royal Court. What's great for me is being able to be all-encompassing and having an eclectic mix of work. It's amazing to go from something like the RSC to Coronation Street."
What made you turn to soap?
"It found me, really. The thing about me is, being a Northern lad, Corrie's always a benchmark of success. I started acting when I was five - not professionally - but everyone, when I was a kid, was always asking 'when are we going to see you on Corrie?' And here I am."
How did the part originally come about?
"It was just the normal audition process. They didn't give me the script until the day, so I grabbed a coffee and digested it. Then I was given a breakdown of the character. The funny thing is that I didn't really know who or what Graeme was. I don't think they quite knew at the beginning either. In the first few scenes, it seemed that Graeme was going to victimise David [Platt in the Young Offenders' Institute] and I even thought he was going to be a bad bully. But then as time went on and I started to read more scenes, I started to realise that they were going to become good mates. And that's good for me because there's more mileage in the character!"
How would you describe Graeme?
"He's a bit of a mentalist. I'd say he was eccentric, too. I call him a fantasising scally. He's always going off on these little rants. He's quite switched on, though. Just a bit mad and playful."
Did you always know that you were going to return at some point beyond Graeme's release?
"No, I didn't. It was never on the cards, but everyone was so supportive of me and my character. On my last day of filming of my first ever block, the crew gave me a clap to say goodbye and they all said 'goodbye Craig', while a couple of them added 'for now' on the end."
How have you settled back in? What's it like working with Jack P. Shepherd and Michelle Keegan?
"It's great. I get on really well with the pair of them. Obviously I didn't work with any of the other actors when I first appeared, only Jack and a couple of times with Michelle. It's still all quite new to me, but with Corrie, it's like a fast train that you have to jump on the back of and ride it."
And you're heavily involved in the Windass storyline. What are they all like?
"I've just moved in with Mikey [North], who plays Gary Windass, so we're really good pals in real life. To be honest, apart from the storylines coming up with the kitchen and car, I don't really have much more to do with the family. They're a really interesting group of characters, though, who'll be causing a lot of trouble."
Are you in Corrie long-term?
"Yeah, I'm here for as long as they'll have me!"
If Graeme could embark on a relationship with anyone on the Cobbles, who would you see him with?
"That's a good question, that. In a non-sexual way, I'd like to see him in some scenes with Becky. They might be too alike, but I think they'd have some great fun. As for a relationship, I think that Sophie [Webster] is brilliant, played by Brooke Vincent. Sophie can be quite gobby and I think she'd give him a run for his money. I'm not sure if she's a bit young, though! At the moment, I'm having lots of first scenes in different places, so it's like they're dangling me over people to see who Graeme fits with."
What's to come for Graeme in 2009?
"I honestly don't know. That's what I enjoy, though. They're keeping me on my toes that way."
What was the reaction like from your family when they heard you'd be appearing in a semi-regular role?
"Well for my dad, I've made it now that I'm on Corrie! He can go down to the pub and someone will go 'hey, Mick, is that your Craig on Corrie' and he'll go 'Oh yes' [in the voice of Churchill the Dog from the TV advert]. I've done the RSC and some other big jobs, but that's it now. I've made it!"
For a smaller part, you've made a great impact…
"It's all quite overwhelming, really. I've seen that there's been a bit of a buzz about Graeme. I think a lot of it's down to the writing, though. I know it sounds a little clichéd! I look at the script when I get it and I think 'it'll be very difficult to mess this up' because it's very funny material. Corrie's great in that it doesn't take itself too seriously. There's a scene next week where I'm fantasising about doing the model Agyness Deyn's mum's garden, so then Agnes will say that I'm really good at doing the garden and then go on holiday today! It's great because it allows me to have a rant which has nothing to do with the plots, but they just work. It really gives you a sense of a character if it's coming out of his mind, rather than their actions."
You deliver some some fantastic one-liners, too…
"I think that doing Shakespeare and theatre has really helped me with my comic timing. Doing theatre, you have to be sharp every night and it's the same here at Corrie. I'm just getting used to it all here at the moment, looking at scenes that I don't think I nailed as well as I could have done, trying to make my scenes better. I don't want Graeme to become too bold, though. The dialogue's bold, but I want viewers to believe in him."

Former Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs could be joining the cast of Coronation Street.
The actor has expressed interest in joining the show and has been in talks with soap bosses.
A Coronation Street spokesman said: "We first started working on a possible character for Andrew Sachs six months ago after learning that he was interested in joining the show.
“This was brought to our attention by Malcolm Hebdon who plays Norris Cole. We have been in discussions with Andrew about the proposed storyline which would be seen on screen some time next year."
The actor has recently been at the centre of a BBC row involving comedians Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand. However, the Corrie spokesman denied that the show’s interest in Mr Sachs was sparked by the recent publicity.
"There is no connection whatsoever between the Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross saga and our interest in Andrew as this storyline was first discussed in April," she said.

Nice and clear now.
- Also it'll be starting to lead up to the christmas storylines, so this seems like a good place to get back into it. :spin2: What are the big xmas storylines?
Tony killing Jed, Jack's pidgeon hut exploding also Steve and Becky
Who's Jed?
What's like a big explosion? people going to die?Auntie Pam and Darryl are involved, and Auntie Pam is hinted to die
lol! I don't know who she is either. Maybe i haven't seen it in longer than I thought.
:laugh:Forgot lol, Jed is a guy who Tony gave a heart attack to a few months back, Jed originally appeared in the '60's
Oh, yeh, the man off Brookeside. Aw, that's just cruel!
- Was that 24 theme thing a couple of weeks ago any good?
It was ok :D
Worth making the effort to watch?
Was the real time a big thing or was it just basically normal?
Like just the whole weeks episodes were all set straight after each other rather than being set at across a week?
Well, it was really just a day, it made the week after seem rushed as one episode is usually a day instead of a week being a day (lol) thing is.....they did the same thing for Rosie's kidnap finale xD
Did they! i only read about it being for the other. :spin2:

I know! Growing isn't just another word for getting tarty!
Where are all the normal people that are just doing good (but still interesting :spin2:) things with there lives!? Where are the people that have some actual character not just that they are having an affair.
Like Maria always used to be soo sweet then she just went all snobby for no apparent reason. Plus that was always a bit silly in the first place considering she was still only working at a little hair salon. And all the silly storylines she had around then.
Same with Sarah, she was amazing, then she decide out of all the people in the would I'm starting to fancy my ex's brother. And all the wedding stuff for a million years. Don't people actually have life stuff going on rather than just basing there whole life around their love life.
That went on longer than anticipated!

A stunned Maria (Samia Smith) listens as Rosie (Helen Flanagan) reveals that she had shown the Carla and Liam footage to Tony. Her thoughts racing she starts to analyse everything she has been told and works out that Tony knew about the kiss before he asked Liam to be best man. What does all of this mean?
At the Rovers Liz (Beverley Callard) suggests to Michelle (Kym Ryder) that she orchestrate a night of romance with Steve (Simon Gregson). Michelle tells a non-plussed Steve that she is cooking dinner. Becky (Katherine Kelly) is not worried about this development until Liz lets slip that she walked in on the two of them kissing in the back room. Is Steve ever going to build up the courage to finish things properly with Michelle?
Molly (Vicky Binns) grows increasingly suspicious of Tyrone's (Alan Halsall) behaviour when he sees him spending more time with Minnie (Poppy Jhakra). Unaware that his real reason for talking to Minnie is to sell her cheap perfume she starts to wonder if something is going on. He convinces her that he doesn't fancy Minnie but how long can he keep the details of his and Pam's dodgy dealings a secret?
Peter (Chris Gascoyne) thinks he and Leanne (Jane Danson) are getting closer when he invites her round for a pizza and she asks if she can read Simon (Alex Bain) a story. But when Peter moves in for a kiss Leanne is decidedly cool with him.

Kevin (Michael LeVell) feels for her when she confides in him that nothing about her husband's untimely death makes sense - will she ever got to the bottom of what really happened?
Darryl (Jonathan Dixon) is getting ready to leave number six as the new tenants are due to arrive today. Teresa (Karen Henthorn) however has other ideas and is not going to give up her home without a fight. As Darryl comes out of the house she locks herself in and as the neighbours gather round amused Darryl desperately tries to persuade his mum to come out of the house. There is a Mexican stand off on the street as the Platts and Windasses scream abuse at each other. Having eventually gained access to the house the Windasses finally takes possession of number six. Gail is surprised when Anna turns up at the house and insists that she wants to try and make peace between the two families. David (Jack P Shepherd) and Tina (Michelle Keegan) are stunned when they return home to find Anna and Gail mid hug and David is furious that his mother is consorting with the enemy. He's even more annoyed when she reveals that they are meeting up for a drink tonight - will the two mothers of the warring families be able to secure a truce?

This is all Maria needed to hear and she seizes on it as proof that Liam's death was no accident.
Elsewhere Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) is pleased with Janice's (Vicky Entwistle) progress on the community service programme.

Wednesday 10 December 7.30pm
Molly’s (Vicky Binns) suspicions of Tyrone (Alan Halsall) continue to grow, especially when she discovers that he has only just joined the gym. She can’t get rid of the niggling feeling that something is going on and when she sees Minnie (Poppy Jhakra) in a T-shirt that she saw Tyrone with earlier she jumps to the conclusion that the pair are definitely having an affair. She tells an oblivious Minnie to pass on a message to Tyrone that she has gone to her dad’s and he needn’t follow. But the message gets lost in translation and Tyrone is none the wiser.
Gail (Helen Worth) defends the plan for the Windasses and the Platts to make friends but Joe (Reece Dinsdale) agrees with David (Jack P Shepherd) and doesn’t want to give them the time of day. The two women continue to try and extend an olive branch as Anna (Debbie Rush) tries unsuccessfully to get Eddie (Steve Huison) in full time employment.
Audrey (Sue Nicholls) and Natasha (Rachel Leskovac) are determined to take Maria’s (Samia Smith) mind off recent events but as soon as she arrives at work she starts with one of her theories. Even the customers are not immune as she quizzes them about whether they think Tony Gordon (Gray O'Brien) is capable of murder.
Elsewhere it is becoming increasingly clear that Norris (Malcolm Hebden) doesn’t like having Jed (Kenneth Cope) around but Jed has no intention of leaving just yet – especially as he has got Tony Gordon in his sights.
This episode is written by Simon Crowther, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Jason Beresford.

Friday 12 December 7.30pm
Molly (Vicky Binns) arrives home from her dad’s but Tyrone (Alan Halsall) is oblivious to how upset she is until she tells him she knows all about his so called workouts and his fancy piece at the kebab shop. Tyrone tries in vain to convince her he is not having an affair and tells Pam (Kate Anthony) that he will have to come clean about the selling. Molly is sceptical as the pair of them explain about Tyrone stepping in to help Pam out but they stop short of telling her about him using the money for their dream wedding. Will Molly forgive Tyrone for lying to her?
Steve (Simon Gregson) is feeling the strain of playing bad boyfriend as frustrated Michelle (Kym Ryder) struggles yet again to have a civilized conversation with him. She confides in a guilty Becky (Katherine Kelly) who tells her she could do a lot better than Steve but Michelle makes her feel even more uncomfortable by telling her she just wants the old Steve back as she misses him.
Audrey (Sue Nicholls) is growing increasingly concerned about Maria’s (Samia Smith) frame of mind and when the distraught widow arrives at the factory and demands the key for Tony’s desk Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) has to take her home and get her to calm down. Fiz pretends she is going to try to get what Maria wants but goes straight to the medical centre to hurry Audrey up. By the time the women arrive back at the house with a doctor Maria has disappeared to the Rovers where she is demanding the keys to Tony and Carla’s flat. Fiz and Audrey manage to persuade her to come home but she refuses to admit there is anything wrong with her and sends them all packing. Meanwhile Tony (Gray O'Brien) and Carla (Alison King) have arrived back from honeymoon oblivious to Maria’s accusations – until they play the answer machine.
Tyrone (Alan Halsall) is devastated as Molly (Vicky Binns) walks out on him and their wedding plans. He tells Pam (Kate Anthony) what has happened and lays the blame fairly and squarely at her door. Pam is distraught at the development and tries to make amends but it looks like it is too late for Tyrone and Molly.
Eileen’s (Sue Cleaver) dad Colin (Edward De Souza) has still not arrived and when she calls him and he comes up with a ridiculous excuse as to why he is late she knows exactly where to find him. She decides to show him up by taking his dinner to the Rovers where she finds him charming the socks off Rita (Barbara Knox).
Steve (Simon Gregson) is lusting after Becky (Katherine Kelly) and is desperate to spend some time with her but there is nothing they can do about it – then a chance remark from Michelle (Kym Ryder) about the stench of Ryan’s (Ben Thompson) football kit gives Steve another idea for his bad boyfriend plan.

CORRIE bad boy Peter Barlow turns up steaming drunk to drive home his son Simon — to the fury of dad Ken.
Boozy bookie Peter (Chris Gascoyne) — who has returned to Weatherfield after a five-year absence — is pie-eyed when he comes to collect Simon from a school Christmas play.
But fuming Ken (William Roache) refuses to hand Simon over and instead confiscates Peter’s car keys.
The storyline will bring back painful memories for Chris, who was banned for a year for drink-driving in January.
The actor, 39, had downed three and a half pints of lager after playing Captain Hook in panto when cops stopped him in his Fiesta in Llandudno, North Wales.

It’s an explosive start to 2009 as
the residents of Weatherfield welcome in the New Year with fireworks at the Rovers.
As the skies light up, Liz and Lloyd (Beverley Callard and Craig Charles) embark on a fiery relationship. But Steve’s (Simon Gregson) world is about to come crashing down when Michelle and Becky (Kym Marsh and Katherine Kelly) finally discover that he’s been playing them off. Will Steve be able to convince Becky that she’s the one he loves? Whichever way it goes, he’ll have a fight on his hands when another Street resident vies for Becky’s attentions.
After an emotional year, Maria’s (Samia Smith) left picking up the pieces of her shattered life. As Tony (Gray O’Brien) starts to persuade her that Liam’s death was an accident, it looks like he may get away with murder. But Carla’s (Alison King) onto him, as she realises her husband could be a killer and a showdown looms. And revelations at Underworld pave the way for a new factory boss who makes his presence felt.
Wedding bells sound at last for Tyrone and Molly (Alan Halsall and Vicky Binns), as they patch up their relationship. But, in true Coronation Street style, the day won’t go according to plan. As Tyrone races to get to the church on time, his dodgy dealings catch up with him and, with Jackie Dobbs (Margi Clarke) back on the scene, it could be a case of mother’s ruin. Is this a wedding that’s just not destined to happen?
As Peter (Chris Gascoyne) struggles to control his drinking, new girlfriend Leanne (Jane Danson) vows to stand by her man. But after minding his business and his son, when he does a disappearing act, Leanne is rocked by a revelation on his return.
Tina (Michelle Keegan) finds herself stuck in the middle of the feuding Platt and Windass families when she witnesses a vicious fight. Her testimony in court will spell prison for one resident, but who will she back? Gail (Helen Worth), meanwhile, finds herself in another testing relationship, and Sophie (Brooke Vincent) gets her first boyfriend, which worries parents Sally and Kevin (Sally Whittaker and Michael Le Vell).

Coronation Street widow Maria Connor could be banged up over Christmas after she is arrested for attacking Tony Gordon.
Maria, played by Samia Smith, hits out at Tony after finding flowers from him on her husband's grave, the Daily Star reports.
She is sure that it was Tony who murdered her husband Liam, and confronts him at his house.
But her anger boils over and she ends up battering the businessman.
Maria warns him: "I'll never rest until you pay for what you did to Liam."
Tony isn't scared though, and tells Maria that there is plenty of space in the graveyard next to her dead husband's body.
After Maria scrawls 'Murderer' on the knicker factory wall and vandalises Tony's car, police arrest her for criminal damage.

While sat watching Carla (Alison King) and Tony's (Gray O'Brien) wedding the other night, it was refreshing to see the producers at Coronation Street using incidental music.
There's an extremely effective scene at the end of the hour-long episode featuring Maria (Samia Smith) and the Green Day song 'Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)'.
I don't think Corrie plan to go all Hollyoaks on us and use music at every touch and turn, but I'm led to believe that they'll be using commercial tracks as-and-when it's apt for the storyline.
There are some fantastic one-liners from the Websters, too!
Carla and Tony's wedding episode airs in a one-hour special on Wednesday, December 3 at 7.30pm.

Tony (Gray O'Brien) is a worried man - Maria’s (Samia Smith) phone messages have left him in no doubt that she suspects him of murder. He leaves for the factory where he confronts Rosie (Helen Flanagan) who admits that Maria has seen the footage of Liam and Carla kissing and that she has been behaving strangely ever since. Knowing he has to act fast he decides to pay Maria a visit. How is he going to silence her?
Steve’s (Simon Gregson) bad boyfriend plan has stepped up a gear. First he walks round the flat smelly, unkempt and unshaven. He’s clearly not in the mood for entertaining as his wife has run off with someone else.
It’s Tyrone’s (Alan Halsall) birthday and he is miserable without Molly (Vicky Binns). Pam (Kate Anthony) speaks to her and asks her to stop blaming Tyrone but Molly still can’t find it in her heart to forgive him.

SHAMELESS star David Threlfall is finally set to join Coronation Street.
The actor has built up a huge following playing drunken Frank Gallagher in the cult Channel 4 show.
Until now he has politely turned down an open invitation to star on the Corrie cobbles.
But Shameless has been hit by the credit crunch and the series has been cut from 16 shows to just eight next year.
And David, 55, feels the time is now right to join the soap.
A source close to the star said: “Corrie have been trying to get him for ages but David remained loyal to Shameless.
Frank is the show’s *central character and he felt he’d be *letting everyone down if he was to go.
“Let’s face it, without Frank they would definitely struggle.
“The clincher has been the decision by Shameless bosses to cut the proposed seventh series by half. The fifth and sixth series have run for 16 episodes.
“But due to the credit crunch, the show’s chiefs have been forced to slash the next one to just eight episodes.”
Corrie bosses recently approached David as they wanted him to be the head of their new family the Windasses.
But he was offered the opportunity to direct episodes of Shameless and he took that option instead.
Our source added: “David does comedy drama but he doesn’t want to be the new Les Battersby or just a Frank clone.
“It’s going to be very interesting to see what the scriptwriters come up with.
“The last time they spoke they told him to contact them as soon as he was ready and they’d write a part especially for him.
“I’m certain that an announcement will be made by the end of the year.”

Coronation Street factory boss Carla Connor - played by Alison King - is all set to become Carla Gordon next week, as she prepares to marry her long-term life and business partner Tony Gordon (Gray O'Brien). However, following the death of Carla's brother-in-law Liam (Rob James-Collier), she's struggled to come to terms with the loss of her soul mate. Unaware that her fiancé masterminded the murder, Carla prepares for her lavish no-expense-spared wedding. However, with so many Weatherfield residents with grudges, will their wedding go without hiccup? Here, DS chats to Alison about Liam, the wedding and her real-life pregnancy.
Will Carla ever be able to forgive herself for her final words to Liam?
"That's a good one. It's a growing thing. She doesn't know anything's her fault. Nor does she know anything about Tony's involvement. As far as Carla's concerned, it was an accident. So in that way it's tragic. Little does she know, had she changed those words and gone off with him, it could have saved his life."
Was Liam Carla's one true love, or does she love Tony but in a different way?
"I don't think she does love Tony in the same way as she did Liam. Liam was somebody who she fell deeply in love with. Her first true love was Paul, Liam's brother, and that was a commitment which came to her quite easily. Paul worshipped her. With Liam, though, it was a forbidden love. I think Carla feels safe with Tony, she just doesn't know him as well. Carla loves him, but it's more security. They spark together quite nicely, too."
Does Carla at this point suspect that Tony killed Liam?
"No, she's completely wrapped up in Liam and whether she's going to go through with the wedding. It's quite difficult remembering which wedding we're at! It's like Jesus, but instead, it's before and after Liam! Carla's just returned fresh from Los Angeles to make a new start with Tony and she realises that Tony didn't deserve all what she did with Liam. As far as Carla's concerned, she told Maria to go and have a happy life with Liam and the baby. Then when Liam died, Carla just had to go off and decide whether she could go through with her marriage to Tony or not."
So, during wedding week, Carla invites someone that Tony's not expecting, doesn't she?
"Yeah, she invites Tony's brother Pat. Jamie [Lee], who plays him is wicked. Pat turns up and nearly throws a spanner in the works. Tony's left thinking whether he's going to get away with what he's done. He's worried who Pat's going to end up speaking to throughout the day. Then Tony worries what stories he's told, what lies he's told. I don't think he can even remember what lies he's told and in what order. Tony's bricking it, while Carla's completely oblivious and says she wants to see more of Pat! Carla's really trying to do the right thing by Tony now. She's trying to move forward."
Does she switch her wedding dress from the one she romped with Liam in?
"Yeah. I think she feels that it'd be a bit bad, what with Liam having been under the old one!"
Is the wedding trouble-free? Do they make it down the aisle?
"Carla's completely unaware as to what Tony's going through, while she just has a lovely day. Essentially, you're left wondering whether all of those loose ends will end up in a knot anywhere along the line. There are so many people that could ruin the day - Sally, Kevin, Rosie, Maria, Pat... And even though Jed's not there, he could easily barge in. It's a case of will they actually make it down the aisle? If they do, will they make it to their honeymoon? Or will something happen just before they leave?"
It must be fun filming weddings because it gets most of the cast in one place!
"Yeah, it does. They're also really long and tedious! They have to get everyone's reaction on camera, while I'm wearing a really uncomfortable dress for three days! At the start you feel like a princess, but by the end, you just want to burn it! It was a wicked dress, though."
You're expecting a baby. You must be excited about becoming a new mum?
"Yeah, I'm big and fat at the minute. I'm just getting fatter. It's a competition between my boobs, my bump and my ass! I think my bum's slightly ahead at the minute! I'm just really tired at the moment. Everybody's been great, though. I just have to remember to put my feet up between scenes. It looks a bit weird on set - I get myself into some ridiculous positions, like on my hands and knees and I end up apologising to people, saying 'sorry, I've got wind!'"
Have they had to start covering your lower half up yet?
"Yeah, they do and they don't but it's getting a bit ridiculous now, though. I look like Humpty Dumpty with leggings."
However, if you've been wondering about Carla's friendship with Leanne; Carla's screen family, including her brother, Darren; and when Alison finishes filming before she goes on maternity leave, then read on.
I've asked a number of people about Carla's brother Darren and have had the same response - they'd all love to have him around. Corrie's producer Kim Crowther also mentioned him last month in my interview with her.
We already have a clear picture of who he is and where he is currently. If you don't know, Darren is currently residing in Strangeways prison serving an eight-year sentence at her Majesty's pleasure for armed robbery.
So I'll make a bold statement here and now - we'll be seeing Darren at some point in 2009.
And if Alison has her way, I think we'll meet Carla's sister, too. Don't forget to let me know your views on the potential casting below.
For now, here are those extra bits:
At one point, Carla hated Leanne. Are you surprised at the producers making them pally?
"No, not at all. They're quite similar. Before when they were friends, they were trying to out-do each other and show each other who was the best with a business. Then Leanne crossed Carla [by sleeping with] with Paul, so they didn't speak for six months. Leanne did go up to Carla a couple of times and try to make friends, but Carla wasn't having any of it. Eventually, Carla had the crisis with Liam and when Leanne tried to make friends again, they both realised that they're close whether they like it or not. Leanne's a good confidante and says it how it is. I think it really works actually."
Would you like to see Carla's brother Darren turn up in Weatherfield?
"Yeah, for sure. I think she's got a brother who's absolutely brilliant with her. I think he'll be stunningly charming, but a complete minger inside. He'll be as rough as old boots because Carla's mum was rough, too. Carla's from a really rough family, but she's tried to put all that behind her. It'd be good to have someone there like Darren who wants to sponge off her or embarrass her all the time. Or maybe he just loves her to death and idolises the ground she walks on? I also think Carla could have a sister that she's not spoken to for years."
When are you due to finish filming?
"Around Christmas time."
Can you give us any clues as to how Carla's going to leave?
"No way, José! "
You must be proud to have become such an established character in such a relatively short period of time?
"Yeah, it's brilliant. I've been really fortunate to have storyline after storyline. I suppose the sad thing about that is that my boys keep leaving me! I don't think that's anything to do with me, though! It's been great to play, every which way. It's allowed me to show a bit of range, which is always good in a soap. All the storylines I've had just keep adding new layers to Carla as a character."

Eighties actress Stephanie Beacham has joined the cast of Coronation Street, it has been confirmed.
The 61-year-old Colbys actress, who appeared as Sable Colby in the US show, auditioned for the ITV soap last week and has now been cast in the role of Martha, an eccentric potential new love interest for Weatherfield veteran Ken Barlow (William Roache).
Ken bumps into Martha by the canal while walking Blanche's (Maggie Jones) dog Eccles. He soon learns that Martha is a theatre actress who travels from performance to performance via the UK waterways on her barge.
Beacham has played Bad Girl Phyllida Oswyn for three years in the ITV prison drama, before going on to star in last year's series of Strictly Come Dancing.
She begins filming with the Manchester-based soap next week and will first appear on screen at the end of January. She will remain with the show for at least three to four months.

Leanne (Jane Danson) eventually finds him at the flat sleeping off a hangover and unable to remember much about the previous day’s events. She persuades him to get his act together and take teddy round to Simon (Alex Bain) at Ken (William Roache) and Deirdre’s (Anne Kirkbride). The factory girls are in party mood and Carla (Alison King) tells them to go home and come back in their glad rags for the Underworld Xmas Bash. Tony (Gray O'Brien) stays to get the party ready and finish off some last minute wrapping but he’s surprised by a visit from a slightly tipsy Jed Stone (Kenneth Cope) demanding more cash in return for his silence.
Angered by the pensioner’s belligerence Tony snaps and using the negligee he has bought Carla for Christmas he throttles him. As he stands over a motionless Jed on the floor of the factory he panics realizing that Carla and the factory girls will be on their way back any time. Spying an empty storage hamper he crams Jed’s lifeless body inside it just in time. The next few hours are a nightmare for Tony as the drunken factory girls conga and dance around the hamper unaware of its grizly secret. Will Tony’s latest evil deed be discovered?

She has planned a party at home but decides to cancel it and spend the evening with Gary Windass (Mikey North) instead. Kevin (Michael LeVell) and Sally (Sally Whittaker) are less than impressed when they return home and discover she and Gary have polished off the champagne the family were going to open to celebrate her birthday.

Ep6975
Christmas Day dawns in Weatherfield with everyone preparing for the day ahead. One man with more to do than most is Tony Gordon (Gray O'Brien) who has the small matter of a body to dispose of before he can get down to celebrating. He tells Carla (Alison King) that there has been a break in at one of the properties and he heads for the factory. But there is a surprise awaiting him when he gets there.
Meanwhile preparations are under way for Christmas dinner at Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) and Norris’ (Malcolm Hebden) but Emily is not happy starting without Jed, whose bed hasn’t been slept in all night. Tony is desperate to make sure it looks as though Jed has done a runner and he sneaks into the house to remove his belongings – will he manage to get everything out without getting discovered?
Over at the Platts the day has got off to a good start with Joe (Reece Dinsdale) surprising Gail (Helen Worth) with an expensive watch. Gail has planned a party for later that day but as the Platts settle down for their Christmas dinner they are invaded by some early arrivals – the Windasses have got the timings wrong and turn up with party food forcing Gail to invite them to stay for Christmas dinner – much to Joe’s annoyance.
By the time the Websters arrive for the party things have gone downhill somewhat and when Gary (Mikey North) turns up David (Jack P Shepherd) is seething as is Kevin (Michael LeVell). It isn’t long before the whole thing has descended into mayhem and Joe walks out – another typical Christmas Day at the Platts.
Christmas is a time to spend with your loved ones and Steve (Simon Gregson) is desperate to get some time alone with Becky (Katherine Kelly). He makes his excuses to get away from the Rovers and arranges to meet Becky at the cab office. She is delighted to discover he has decked it out as a Christmas Grotto and they settle down to share a few snatched moments unaware that Michelle is on her way over to try and find him.
It’s a sad day for Maria (Samia Smith) who tells Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) that she wants to go to the cemetery to visit Paul and Liam’s grave. She is shocked when she arrives and finds that someone has beaten her to it and laid flowers already. She is disgusted when she realizes they are from Tony and Carla and destroys them before returning to the Street and letting Tony know exactly what she thinks of his gesture.
Things are a lot quieter at Roy’s Rolls where the dinner goes off without a hitch – thanks to a last minute donation and some help from Aunty Pam (Kate Anthony).
This episode is written by Chris Fewtrell produced by Kim Crowther and directed by John Anderson.

Ep6976

Fiz explains that she hasn’t seen or heard anything that she could tell them leaving Maria frustrated. Still desperate to prove to everyone that Tony murdered Liam, Maria resorts to desperate measures and armed with a pot of paint daubs the word ‘murderer’ across the factory walls. Has she gone too far this time?
Gail (Helen Worth) still hasn’t heard from Joe (Reece Dinsdale) but he turns up at the house with a bouquet of flowers by way of an apology for his behaviour. He promises her he won’t do something like that again but still doesn’t come clean about being evicted.
Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) is like a bear with a sore head when Amber (Nikki Patel) asks him to make himself scarce so she can spend some time with Darryl (Jonathan Dixon). Amber realizes the only way she is going to get a love life is if she sorts out Dev’s first so she gets on the phone to Tara.
At the Brazilian Crunch class Liz (Beverley Callard) saves the day when the instructor fails to show up – all they need now is some music – queue Lloyd (Craig Charles).
Elsewhere Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) is sure that Jed has returned as his bedroom door is closed and it was open yesterday until she discovers he has gone and so have all his things.
This episode is written by Debbie Oates, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by John Anderson.

Maria is convinced that this proves he has a plan but Audrey and Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) are worried about her and tell her it must stop. Tony realizes that it isn’t going to stop until Maria is out of the way and suggests to Kirk (Andrew Whyment) and Fiz that they get her away from Weatherfield and he offers to pay. Carla (Alison King) is confused by Tony’s behaviour.
Lloyd (Craig Charles) warns Steve that he is playing with fire and that it won’t be long before people start to notice the sexual tension between him and Becky (Katherine Kelly). Steve is convinced he can handle it meanwhile Lloyd finds himself the centre of attention following the Brazilian Crunch class.
Tyrone (Alan Halsall) is pleased that Molly (Vicky Binns) is back at home but he’s got a stiff back from sleeping on the sofa. Molly offers to give him a massage but they are interrupted by Aunty Pam (Kate Anthony).

Corrie’s factory girls are in for a surprise in 2009 when they get a new boss.
He comes in the shape of mystery man - Luke Strong.
But no one is more shocked than Tony Gordon, who finds himself having to answer to cool hand Luke, who turns out to be the majority shareholder of Underworld!
Mancunian actor Craig Kelly has been cast to play Luke – an old business associate of Carla Gordon’s.
Carla leaves Tony and Weatherfield in February after their marriage breaks down and actress Alison King goes on maternity leave.
Tony has no idea where she has gone and is stunned when Luke arrives in the factory and starts calling the shots.
But Luke soon wins over the factory girls with his charm and good looks and Tony finds himself on the back foot.
Carla has asked Luke to look after her business affairs and it isn’t long before he decides to buy her share – making him Tony’s boss!
A Coronation Street spokesperson said: “It looks like Tony may have met his match in Luke Strong. He’s a bit of a mystery man and Tony doesn’t know what his motives are for buying into the business or how he knows Carla. Luke is certainly going to make things difficult for Mr Gordon.”
Craig’s credits include Queer as Folk, Waking the Dead, Casualty and Clocking Off.
Corrie bosses have also just announced the casting of actress Stephanie Beecham. Click on the link below for more details.

First up this week, we head to Coronation Street, where the Windass clan - Eddie (Steve Huison), Anna (Debbie Rush), Gary (Mikey North) and Len (Conor Ryan) - arrive on the Cobbles and take root in the Mortons' old house.
After ridding themselves of Teresa (Karen Kenthorn), who decides to barricade herself in the house and claim squatter's rights, they come face-to-face with the Platts. It's not exactly the welcome the Windasses had expected, but Anna hopes she can set the situation straight with Gail (Helen Worth) as soon as possible and suggests that both families go for a drink. David (Jack P Shepherd), Joe (Reece Dinsdale) and Tina (Michelle Keegan) aren't pleased in the slightest.

Liz (Beverly Callard) is looking forward to the dance class Christmas party at the community centre until Steve (Simon Gregson) tells her that Lloyd (/Craig Charles) is only DJ'ing because he fancies Poppy (Sophiya Haque). She is further disappointed when Danielle (Annie Cooper) from the class rings and asks him out on a date. Misreading the signals, and assuming Liz isn't interested, Lloyd agrees to go for lunch with Danielle. It soon becomes clear to Lloyd though that Danielle is little more than a pretty face and at the party he makes his excuses to head outside for a fag where he finds Liz and the two waste no more time getting to know each other properly.
Peter (Chris Gascoyne) is determined to prove to Leanne (Jane Danson) and Blanche (Maggie Jones) that he isn't drinking - even a bottle of scotch from a customer and a trip to the Rovers don’t seem to put him off his stride, forcing Blanche to pay up on their bet.
After the previous evening Tyrone (Alan Halsall) is convinced that he and Molly (Vicky Binns) are back on track so when she calls him upstairs he thinks his luck is in. But he's stunned when he discovers that she is putting a bolster in between them in bed - to 'save any misunderstandings'.
Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) is growing increasingly concerned about Jed's wherabouts. Norris (Malcom Hebdon) is convinced he has merely done a bunk but reluctantly agrees to go out and look for him with Emily.
Elsewhere Janice (Vicky Entwistle) makes a new aquaintance doing her hospital community service.
This episode is written by Jayne Hollinson, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Kay Patrick.

PI for the rest of the week follows:
Monday 29 December 8.30pm
When Danielle (Annie Cooper) comes looking for Lloyd (Craig Charles) he dashes back inside leaving Liz (Beverly Callard) convinced that he is embarrassed about what happened. When they all arrive back at the Rovers Steve (Simon Gregson) is stunned that Lloyd managed to bag such a looker and Liz can't help feeling jealous when Danielle kisses Lloyd. For Lloyd though there is only one woman he is interested in and when he escapes Danielle's clutches and heads to the smoking shelter he and Liz carry on where they left off - and this time they head for the bedroom.
Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) and Ken (William Roache) return from visiting Tracy and are delighted when they hear from Blanche (Maggie Jones) that Peter (Chris Gascoyne) is off the booze. Peter is thrilled when they agree that Simon (Alexander Boyd) can go home with him tomorrow.
The recession doesn't seem to be affecting Tony Gordon (Gray O'Brien) - his flats are selling and he is a hit with the Underworld staff for his kindess towards Maria. His good mood is sealed when Carla (Alison King) agrees to go to Scotland to celebrate Hogmanay.
Jack (WIlliam Tarmey) is confident things are looking up for Tyrone (Alan Halsall) when Molly (Vicky Binns) offers to cook dinner for him. But once again Tyrone misreads the signals and ends up back at square one. Will he ever be able to win Molly back properly?
Elsewhere Darryl (Jonathan Dixon) starts to regret getting involved with Aunty Pam's (Kate Anthony) dodgy oil business.
This episode is written by Julie Jones, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Kay Patrick.

Wednesday 31 December 7.30pm
It's New Year's Eve on Coronation Street and some people are in more of a mood to celebrate than others…
Tyrone (Alan Halsall) is determined to try and win Molly (Vicky Binns) round and is pleased when she agrees to meet him for a drink in the Rovers later. But when he catches her chatting to Jason (Ryan Thomas) and agreeing to catch up with him for a drink in the pub Tyrone sees red. Furious with his petty jealousy, Molly throws Tyrone out of the shop and as the New Year arrives she makes a shock decision about their future.
Liz (Beverly Callard) and Lloyd (Craig Charles) are circling each other - both trying to play it cool believing the other is not interested. But as the day continues Liz gets sick of hearing about Danielle from Michelle (Kym Marsh) and Steve (Simon Gregson) and as the clock strikes midnight she and Lloyd sneak off to his flat to see in 2009 alone.
Peter (Chris Gascoyne) is already sick of being on the wagon and tells Leanne (Jane Danson) that he feels he would be better off staying away from the Rovers and out of temptation's way. Blanche (Maggie Jones) manages to rasie a smile from him though when she decides to place a bet that Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) could cash in when she's gone.
Becky (Katherine Kelly) is getting sick of waiting for Steve (Simon Gregson) to become a free man and she's not best pleased when she hears Michelle (Kym Marsh) telling him that New Year would be a good time for them to make a fresh start. WIll Becky and Steve ever be together?
The night comes and goes with a bang for everyone when Pam (Kate Anthony) and Darryl's (Jonathan Dixon) attempts to break open the outside loo containing their bio oil has explosive results.
This episode is written by Damon Rcohefort and produced by kim Crowther, the director is Kay Patrick.

Friday 2 January 7.30pm
It's a bad day for Molly (Vicky Binns) and Tyrone (Alan Halsall). Aunty Pam (Kate Antony) is still in hospital following the explosion but it is Tyrone who gets it in the neck from Molly who is convinced he must have known about the bio oil scam all along. By the end of the day it looks like he might finally have convinced Molly he had nothing to do with it and he is about to pop the question when a very unwelcome face from the past turns up.
Liz (Beverly Callard) and Lloyd (Craig Charles) are already fed up with having to meet in secret but neither of them want to break the news of their relationship to Steve (Simon Gregson) so they agree to wait for the right moment to come along - whenever that may be.
Peter (Chris Gascoyne) has overslept after downing half a bottle of whisky last night and Ken's waiting to take Simon (Alexander Bain) out. Ken (William Roache) and Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) are suspicious of his reasons for being late but Ken is determined to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Michelle (Kym Marsh) is planning a trip to Ireland for her and Steve but he's not too keen. Becky's (Katherine Kelly) not too taken with the idea either but has to put a brave face on it when Michelle tells her all about it.
Things have gone well between Tara (Ayesha Dharker)and Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) so Amber (Nikki Patel) is disappointed when Tara reveals she is going to Scotland. When Tara's heating breaks down Amber hatches a plan to try and get her to stay but it backfires spectacularly.
This episode is written by Peter Whalley, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Kay Patrick.

Friday 2 January 8.30pm
Molly (Vicky Binns) and Tyrone (Alan Halsall) are finally united over something - both of them want to get rid of Tyrone's mum Jackie (Margi Clarke). She insists she is staying put until she is able to sort out a problem with her breast implant which has 'exploded'. Molly is stunned when Tyrone falls for his mum's sob story and says she can stay. Jack (William Roache) and Pam (Kate Anthony) are less than impressed to have her hanging around but Molly is sick of all the bickering and finally gives Tyrone the answer he has been waiting for.
Joe (Reece Dinsdale) is getting more and more agitated by the way that Gary Windass (Mikey North) is managing to upset Tina (Michelle Keegan) and David (Jack P Shepherd). When Gary finally pushes his luck and asks Tina out, Joe takes matters into his own hands and gives him a warning.
Amber (Nikki Patel) is mortified that her plan to keep Tara (Ayesha Dharker) in Weatherfield has had entirely the opposite effect and goes round to confess to tampering with the plumbing. Tara is impressed by her honesty and what she has tried to do for her dad and agrees to stick around - even covering for Amber with Dev (Jimmi Harkishin).
Steve (Simon Gregson) is still intrigued by the identity of Lloyd's (Craig Charles) new mystery woman but Lloyd is giving nothing away. Steve sees Liz (Beverly Callard) and Lloyd whispering and assumes she is trying to find out details of the new woman too - how would he react if he knew what was really going on?
Peter (Chris Gascoyne) has managed to hide his drinking relapse from everyone until Leanne (Jane Danson) goes round to the flat for tea and discovers he has fallen off the wagon. Peter is in denial and accuses Leanne of placing too much emphasis on his drinking but when she walks out it looks as if her words may have hit home.
This episode is written by Jonathan Harvey, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Kay Patrick.

Sophie, 14: I'm up the duff, dad
By JEN BLACKBURN
Published: 03 Dec 2008 www.thesun.co.uk/
CORONATION Street schoolgirl Sophie Webster is to reveal that she may be PREGNANT.
The 14-year-old confesses after dad Kevin discovers a used pregnancy test in a bin.
Kevin (Michael Le Vell) assumes the kit was used by wife Sally (Sally Whittaker). When she denies it, the long-suffering couple both fear their wayward elder daughter Rosie (Helen Flanagan) is about to become a teenage mum.
But 18-year-old Rosie tells them: “I know I get blamed for everything around here, but you have two daughters and this has nothing to do with me.”
Sally and Kevin are dumbstruck as they realise the kit belongs to Sophie.
Sophie (Brooke Vincent) sobs as she tells them the result was positive.
While Sally accepts the news, car mechanic Kev blows a gasket, vowing to find the father and batter him.
But viewers will be left to wait and see whether the pregnancy is confirmed or whether it’s just another cry for help from attention-seeking Sophie.
If she is pregnant it will be the biggest under-age sex scandal to hit the soap since 13-year-old Sarah Louise Platt (Tina O’Brien) became soapland’s youngest ever mum back in 2000.
