Coronation Street producers have been forced to recast the role of Helen Connor due to the unavailability of the original actress.
Sorcha Cusack has made several appearances since 2008 as Liam (Rob James-Collier) and Michelle Connor's (Kym Marsh) mother. However due to an unavoidable clash of schedules, the 60-year-old will now be replaced by Dearbhla Molloy.
Helen's screen husband Barry will be played by original actor Frank Grimes, who returned to filming with his 'new wife' on Friday. He and Molloy will appear on screen in early July.
Joking on his blog last week, Grimes said: "Well it is definite now... I am going back into Coronation Street. Start filming on Friday. I am to have a new wife though!"
A spokeswoman for the soap told DS: "It's always tricky when a character's not with us on a rolling basis. We always try our best to secure the return of the original actors but sometimes we are forced to recast, as has been the case with Helen."
Helen and Barry made their first appearance in Weatherfield in February 2008 to attend Liam and Maria's (Samia Smith) wedding. They briefly returned in the October on hearing the news of their son Liam's hit-and-run death.
They made another comeback a month later for their 40th wedding anniversary.
The pair were never seen in Weatherfield with their eldest son Paul (Sean Gallagher), who also died in a car accident.

Airs on Wednesday, May 20 2009 at 19:30 BST on ITV1
As the doctor arrives and reveals that Colin has died of a heart attack, Julie rushes home. Seeing the police leave, she senses something is wrong and is devastated to hear that her father is dead.
Julie sobs hysterically over Colin's body but Eileen urges her to get a grip as she goes to break the news to Jason. Eileen appears cold as she battles to hold it together in front of her family, but when she opens Colin's wallet and finds a photo of him with her when she was a little girl, she finally breaks down.
Elsewhere, Norris is furious to find Ramsay holding court in The Rovers with Emily, Ken, Deirdre and Blanche. He storms out as Rita receives the shocking news that Colin has died. She retreats as she battles her emotions.
Chesney confronts his sister about her hospital visit but Fiz maintains that she was accompanying Maria to an appointment. Chesney, however, is suspicious and begins to worry that she may be ill.
And returning from a good date with Luke, Michelle is surprised to get a call from JD asking her to go on tour with the band. It's something she's always wanted to do but she's quick to turn him down for Ryan's sake.

Former Coronation Street actress Ali Briggs is to make a return to the soap.
Briggs played the role of Emily Bishop's (Eileen Derbyshire) deaf niece Freda in 2005.
Freda was last seen leaving her aunt's upset after housemate Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) became annoyed by the attention she was receiving from Emily.
Her return will also signal the arrival of Freda's fiancé.
A source told The Mirror: "Norris struggled to deal with her deafness and this led to some great comedy scenes at Norris's expense."
They added: "Freda was cast in the mould of many great Corrie women, she was funny, nosy, and a smart woman who just happened to be hearing-impaired. We hope to carry on where we left off with her."
In December 2005, Coronation Street and Briggs - who is also deaf in real life - won a Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation (RADAR) People of the Year award for the "best portrayal of the lives and viewpoints of disabled people on television" for the character of Freda, who was the brainchild of Corrie writer Debbie Oates.
She will reappear on screen in late July or early August.

CORRIE favourite Claire Peacock is left fighting for her life after a blood clot kills her secret unborn child.
The flame-haired cabbie collapses after weeks of rows with her gormless hubby Ashley.
The butcher — and viewers — do not know Claire is expecting a baby until doctors tell him she has miscarried.
And they add she may also die as a result of a clot on her lung.
Devastated Ashley then sobs to pal Peter Barlow: “Please, she can’t die — she’s my whole world. And why didn’t she tell me she was pregnant?”
The dramatic summer storyline on the ITV1 soap is a new blow for the struggling couple.
Claire (Julie Hayworth) and Ashley (Steven Arnold) are constantly at war over lack of cash.
She is furious after Ashley cancels their hol — then drinks away dosh at the pub.
An insider said: “It’s going to be a terrible time for Ashley.
“He realises how much his wife means to him — but is it all too late?”

It's good bye from Sue and, unfortunately, good bye from me as well. There's been a lot of upheaval here at Shiny, as you've probably noticed. Last week, Sue resigned from Corrieblog and, having thought it over carefully, I am doing the same. It's a lot to carry for just one person and there doesn't seem to be any help forthcoming from the landlords, not at the moment at least. It breaks my heart to leave you all in the lurch like this but there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Our former editor, Flaming Nora, has a lovely blog that's been climbing the popularity ladder since it started. She's invited yours truly to contribute to it and I've accepted. There are spoilers, her brilliant weekly update review, gossip and lots more. I've started a blog as well for essay type posts, those long and rambly ones I'm famous for. I'll be linking to them from Nora's blog but you can read them directly here. You can get your weekly preview spoilers at Corrie.net in the Weatherfield Gazette (UK) or the Moosejaw Mercury (Canada) on either Thursday or Friday (when I get round to uploading them). It's been a priviledge bringing my love and knowledge of Corrie to you, the fans, and hopefully, Shiny can find some writers with a fresh perspective. I hope to see some of you over at Nora's and/or at my blog!

Just when we're getting used to seeing the cuddly side of the pyromaniac, Graeme Proctor's bad-boy past will catch up with him soon. He's going to start scoring drugs for Joe McIntrye, says The Star.
With Joe hooked on the high-strength painkillers, he pleads with Graeme: “Just get me one more bottle… please, I’m begging you. I’m desperate.” And Joe's going to start stealing from Gail to fund his habit.
Poor Gail. Has that woman not suffered enough?

Coronation Street's gay knicker-stitcher Sean Tully will fall for a gay bodybuilder in an upcoming storyline.
At the beginning of July, Sean - played by 33-year-old Antony Cotton - embarks on a new fitness regime with friend and housemate Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) and regularly begins to attend a local gym.
While there, Sean falls head over heels for clean-living and religious gay gym-goer Leon, played by Andrew Langtree (pictured).
Despite his best efforts, Sean quickly realises that Leon actually fancies Jason and so in an attempt to win him around, Sean begins to tell a series of comedic lies in the hope of forging a closer friendship.
The camp barman first makes out that Jason is gay, before 'revealing' that Jason's mum Eileen (Sue Cleaver) is a Jehovah's Witness.
However, when Leon makes a surprise visit to The Rovers, he's taken aback to see Jason kissing Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) and Eileen discussing gambling.
Langtree, who is also a professional singer, was handpicked by Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney to sing during his late wife Linda's memorial service, while former Prime Minister Tony Blair's wife Cherie also asked him to perform in front of the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
A Coronation Street source told The People: "Andrew's taken a bit of friendly ribbing from his mates after singing in front of the Queen - because his new character is one. But he's fitted in really well and the storylines are set to be a lot of fun."
Langtree, who has previously appeared in Cutting It, Heartbeat, Holby City and Doctors, makes his first appearance in Weatherfield on July 3.

Former Coronation Street regulars Charlie Lawson and Nicholas Cochrane are to return to Weatherfield for a "big old McDonald wedding", Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.
The duo, who play father and son Jim and Andy McDonald (below), return to filming at Manchester's Granada Studios later this month for their son and twin brother Steve's (Simon Gregson) second wedding to loudmouth barmaid Becky Granger (Katherine Kelly).
Speaking to DS, the soap's producer Kim Crowther said: "Lloyd [Mullaney] plays quite a major part in Steve's next wedding when Jim McDonald makes a reappearance. The thing that Jim gets embroiled in isn't what you'd expect, though."
She continued: "Lloyd manages to cause a rumpus at the nuptials without it all panning out as you'd think - considering Lloyd's going out with Liz, that is. Jim - and actually Andy, too - reappear, so it'll be a big old McDonald wedding."
A Corrie source added: "It's a lovely McDonald family reunion but as with all soap weddings, there's an extremely dramatic ending to the day."
Earlier this year, Steve and Becky's first wedding didn't go to plan when the blushing bride turned up at the register office in an inebriated state. The registrar subsequently refused to marry them.
Lawson briefly reprised his role as Jim at the end of 2007 for his former screen wife Liz's (Bev Callard) sham wedding to Vernon (Ian Reddington).
Cochrane, meanwhile, was last seen on the cobbles as Andy on February 20, 2004, when he left for a new life in Spain after serving as a witness at his brother's second marriage to Karen McDonald (Suranne Jones). Andy has since been cited in several scripts but has remained unseen.
Steve and Becky's "bigger and better" second nuptials are due to air in mid-August.

CORONATION Street is set to cause a religious stir with a Catholic v Protestant storyline.
Producers were ordered to bring divisions to the cobbles of Weatherfield by show chief Kim Crowther.
The explosive plot, which telly insiders fear could spark a backlash among Christian viewers, centres on new mum Maria Connor and her Irish in-laws.
Trouble flares when grand-parents Helen (Dearbhla Molloy) and Barry (Frank Grimes) insist their grandson Liam should be baptised and raised as a Catholic – just as his late dad Liam Snr was.
But Maria (Samia Smith) feels pressurised by their demands and flips out when Helen questions Maria’s choice of godmother.
After meeting Audrey Roberts in the Rovers, Helen tells Maria: “If she hinted once about being a god-mother to our little Liam, she must have hinted it a hundred times. And I mean, is she even Catholic? Our Liam would only have
wanted Catholics as his son’s god- parents.”
Angry Maria tells her the baby will be christened as a Protestant and she tells a devastated Helen she can “like it or lump it”.
The dialogue becomes even more confrontational when Tony Gordon (Gray O’Brien) steps in on Maria’s behalf to warn Helen and Barry that they should keep their noses out.
He says: “Why don’t you take your toxic tongue back to the land of begorra and bejesus?
“Just go back and beat your breast in some peaty bog – no one around here cares about either of you.”
Last night a Street insider claimed ITV was bracing itself for complaints.
The source said: “Kim was aware of the potential of stirring things up when she read the scripts but was determined to let the scenes be screened.
“It’s certainly an interesting topic that needs to be explored.”

Rosie (Helen Flanagan) is nursing a hangover and hasn't surfaced yet. Sally (Sally Whittaker) tells Kevin (Michael Le Vell) that their daughter is considering investing in Underworld, Kevin isn't happy but Sally thinks it is a great idea and wastes no time seeking out Luke (Craig Kelly) with a proposition of her own - if Rosie is going to invest in the factory she wants Rosie's job as PA.
Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) is growing increasingly concerned about John (Graeme Hawley) and despite having no visiting order heads off to the prison with a letter for him. She pleads with the governor to let her see him but without a visiting order it is clear she is getting nowhere near him - despite the fact he is on suicide watch. After making a scene around other visitors arriving at the prison she realises that desperate measures are called for. John is stunned when he is called to the governor's office and, via the cctv screen, he sees Fiz chained to the prison railings complete with a banner asking him to marry her!
Jack (William Tarmey) is worried about the problems he is causing between Molly (Vicky Binns) and Tyrone (Alan Halsall), he tells Pam (Kate Anthony) that Tyrone only has his best interest at heart hence his supicions about Connie (Rita May). But Molly is convinced Connie is good for Jack and tells Tyrone he is having tea with them later whether he likes it or not.
Slug (Marshall Lancaster) calls in the Rovers again to see Becky (Katherine Kelly) arousing Lloyd's (Craig Charles) suspicions. Sean also watches with interest at the familiar banter that starts between the two old friends.
Elsewhere Minnie (Poppy Jhakra) manufactures a date with Jason (Ryan Thomas) much to Tina's (Michelle Keegan) amusement and Bill (Peter Armitage) and Pam agree to write each other's adverts for the personal ads.

PI for the rest of week
Monday 22 June
Faced with Fiz's (Jennie McAlpine) very public protest the governor relents and lets her see John (Graeme Hawley). He is overjoyed to see her and tells her he can't live without her. She repeats her proposal in person and an ecstatic John accepts before he is dragged away by the prison officers.
Kevin (Michael Le Vell) is horrified as Rosie (Helen Flanagan) heads out to meet Luke (Craig Kelly) dressed to the nines in an eye popping outfit that cost a fortune. In the Rovers Luke can't believe his luck as Rosie makes it very clear that not only does she want to invest in the factory but she also doesn't mind mixing business with pleasure!
Molly (Vicky Binns) cooks dinner for Tyrone (Alan Halsall), Jack (William Tarmey) and Connie (Rita May) but the evening gets off to a bad start when Tyrone accuses Connie of just being after Jack's money. Jack is furious at Tyrone's behaviour and tells him that he is going to look for somewhere else to live.
Tina (Michelle Keegan) watches amused as a tipsy Jason (Ryan Thomas) makes a fool of himself with Minnie (Poppy Jhakra) - convinced she is asking him to stay the night. When she gives him the brush off he moves on to Tina who makes it clear that she is not willing to be Minnie's understudy - but does she really mean it?
Steve (Simon Gregson) quizzes Becky (Katherine Kelly) about Slug (Marshall Lancaster) and she confirms that he is an ex boyfriend who used to have a drug problem. She tries to convince him that slug has cleaned up his act but Steve is not impressed that her ex has visited the pub twice.
***
PI for Wednesday 24 June
Molly (Vicky Binns) is confused by the mixed signals she is getting from Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and when he fails to show for training yet again she seeks him out at the garage. She demands to know why he is giving her the cold shoulder just days after telling her how fantastic she is but even she couldn't have anticipated his reasons. She is stunned as he tells her that he can't stop thinking about her and wants to jump on her every time he sees her. How will Molly react to Kevin's proclamation of lust?
Rosie (Helen Flanagan) has spent the night at Luke's (Craig Kelly) and it seems he has accepted her plan to invest in the factory. Smug and in control after a night of passion with the boss Rosie heads for work and makes it clear to the gobsmacked factory girls that she only way she will be returning to Underworld is as management!
Becky (Katherine Kelly) is behaving mysteriously and Steve (Simon Gregson) is worried that Slug (Marshall Lancaster) is somehow behind her strange mood. When she returns from a shopping trip with a birthday present from Steve she is hurt and disappointed that he thought she had gone off to see Slug.
Elsewhere Jason (Ryan Thomas) apologises to Tina (Michelle Keegan) for drunkenly coming on to her and amused she agrees they can be mates. Jack (William Tarmey) tries but fails to convince Tyrone (Alan Halsall) that Connie (Rita May) is just a friend.

PI for Friday 26 June
It is the day of Gary's (Mikey North) court case and the Windasses are dreading the outcome. David (Jack P Shepherd) meanwhile can't contain his glee as he contemplates the odds of Gary going to prison. Still angry with his grandson's behaviour Ted (Michael Byrne) bans David from going to the court to gloat.
Molly (Vicky Binns) and Kevin (Michael Le Vell) are both confused about their feelings for each other and their mixed emotions are threatening to cause problems at home. Kevin finds himself rowing with Sally (Sally Whittaker) about Rosie (Helen Flanagan) and over at number 9 Molly and Tyrone (Alan Halsall) are at loggerheads over Jack (Bill Tarmey) and Connie (Rita May). Later Molly calls in the garage to clear the air with Kevin but their conversation leaves them both more confused than ever.
An excited Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) is desperate to tell someone about her proposal to John and she pours her heart out to a slightly concerned Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh).
Maria (Samia Smith) and Tony (Gray O'Brien) have settled into a nice routine at number 7 but Maria is desperate to have the baby and reads Tony some ideas from her maternity book - there is an embarrassing moment for the pair when one of the suggestions to bring labour on is sex!
Elsewhere Jesse (John Thomson) calls into the Rovers to see Eileen (Sue Cleaver).
***
PI for Friday 26 June
Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Molly (Vicky Binns) are flirting shamelessly when Sally (Sally Whittaker) bangs on the garage door. Pannicking Molly hides in the boot of a car. She's about to make her escape but then Tyrone (Alan Halsall) arrives and she's forced to say put while Sally arranges for the four to go for a drink together later. In the Rovers Kevin and Molly can't keep their eyes off each other and when they snatch a moment alone at the bar Kevin asks her to go running tomorrow, just the two of them. Molly's knows the subtext, will she agree?
When the Windasses arrive back from court without Gary, David (Jack P Shepherd) can't hide his pleasure knowing Gary's now behind bars. As he gloats Tina (Michelle Keegan) makes it clear that she hates David but cocky as ever he's convinced she'll come round. Meanwhile Tina's got other ideas and as she shares a drink with Jason (Ryan Thomas) she takes the lead. Back at the Grimshaws Tina's had enough of the games and when she asks Jason to kiss her he finally makes his move.
Eileen's (Sue Cleaver) also made her move on Jesse (John Thomson). He accpets her offer of a coffee but when they get back to the Grimshawas they open the door to find Jason and Tina ripping each other's clothes off. Will Eileen miss out on her own night of passion?
And Tony's (Gray O'Brien) cooked a curry for Maria in a bid to bring on her labour. As they relax in each other's company it looks like they're set for another cosy night in, or will the curry work it's magic?
Scarlett.

There are dramatic times coming up in Coronation Street.
Claire Peacock will try to throw herself off a hospital roof after miscarrying.
She loses the baby due to a potentially fatal blood clot on her lung.
Claire (Julia Haworth) and husband Ashley (Steven Arnold) are set to go through a rocky patch in their marriage and constantly row over cash. In heart-stopping scenes, Claire will collapse and be rushed to hospital, where doctors reveal to Ashley that his wife could die from a blood clot that’s formed, and also that she’s pregnant.
Claire will survive the op, but her baby won’t, leaving Claire so distraught she decides to end it all.
Ashley discovers her teetering on the hospital’s roof and says: “Claire, Claire, what are you doing? Please get away from the edge. What would the boys and me do without you?”
Claire responds: “Do you see everybody out there Ashley?
They’re normal people getting on with their lives…Why can’t I be normal Ashley? Why can’t I be normal?”
She then begs Ashley not to have her sectioned again.
Claire was sectioned under the Mental Health Act in 2006 suffering from severe post-natal depression after the birth of Freddie.

Craig Kelly is to leave Coronation Street later this year when factory boss Luke Strong disappears in suspicious circumstances.
Man of mystery Luke has had viewers guessing about his motives for buying into the factory when Carla left at the beginning of the year.
Now Luke’s house of cards is about to come tumbling down and he finally shows his true colours – leaving one resident reeling and paving the way for Carla’s return!
Craig said: "I have had a ball playing Luke Strong and although it's been fun I always knew he would be a character that would enter the street in mysterious circumstances, ruffle feathers, make his mark and leave.
"Being in Corrie was something I wanted to do but I didn't want to stay too long.
“I am grateful for the chance to have played such a great character and to have walked the cobbled street.”
A Corrie spokesperson said: “Some characters arrive in Weatherfield and stay for years, others pass through affecting the lives of the residents, just as in real life.
“Luke will not be killed off and the door will be left open for a possible return in the future.”
Craig will be on screen until the end of October.

I think the new camera angles are great. They add a new dimension to the sets and make it feel more real. I've noticed they've been making a few changes recently like the new twilight end credits which I think first appeared tonight with shots of the flats and a cab going down the street.

Aye, the should redo the daytime ones too (if anyone noticed, when an episode ends during the day, they use the daytime ones, when it ends at night, they use the nightime ones)

DELINQUENT David Platt will be beaten to a bloody pulp by a mystery attacker in a gripping Corrie whodunnit.
David, 18, played by Jack P Shepherd, is bludgeoned in a back alley and left bleeding and unconscious later this summer.
The bad boy recently put love rival Gary Windass up to a robbery to land him in jail. But he has made so many other enemies, the police won't know where to start hunting his assailant.
Revenge ... Jason and Tina
Revenge ... Jason and Tina
The main suspects in the attack are Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas), ex-girlfriend Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan), his mum's boyfriend Joe McIntyre (Reece Dinsdale) and Len Windass (Conor Ryan) - Gary's terrifying uncle.
Jason and Joe both have run-ins with David before the attack and without alibis they will be Weatherfield police's prime suspects.
Jason's bust-up with the hairdresser's gopher comes after David continues to harass his former girlfriend Tina - who is now dating Jason.
Fan ... Oasis Noel Gallagher
Fan ... Oasis Noel Gallagher
On the day of the attack, Jason calls David a "sick little weirdo" and pins him against a wall. He then growls: "Maybe I should teach you a lesson you'll never forget."
Depressive Joe - who is addicted to painkillers - is equally hellbent on revenge after David encourages his mum and Joe's girlfriend Gail (Helen Worth) to dump him, leaving him with no home and no money.
Viewers will see a seething and simmering Joe sat alone in his van close to Coronation Street minutes before the attack.
Even his ex-love Tina, who was threatened by David just prior to his beating, is also a suspect. She has no alibi either and calls into the Rovers Return seconds before the attack looking for Jason.
Meanwhile, the whole Windass family is out for David's blood after he egged on Gary to take part in the robbery - before turning him into the cops.
When Uncle Len finds out, he wants revenge.
A Street insider told TV Biz: "David's assailant will be kept a closely-guarded secret.
"Apart from Joe and Jason, Len could very well be the violent attacker or Tina may just have had enough of David's antics. Or could it be someone else?"
David's behaviour has made him so unpopular with viewers that Oasis legend Noel Gallagher, 42, has actually talked about giving him a pasting.
The Mancunian star told fans earlier this year: "Coronation Street is such an institution. I love it.
"I could just have a walk-on part. A little, tiny part. Preferably punching David Platt's face in. And then go on to his mum."

Andrew Sachs will leave Coronation Street when his character Ramsay Clegg is killed off with a heart attack, it has emerged.
According to The Sun, Ramsay will collapse and die while boarding a plane back to Australia after breaking Emily's heart.
A source said: "Andrew's character was only meant to be temporary but his departure will be dramatic."
Emily, played by Eileen Derbyshire, will then plead for Ramsay to be buried in Weatherfield.
Sachs previously revealed that he had signed up for the show for an initial three-month period, though Coronation Street bosses had an option on a further three months.

CORRIE'S Reece Dinsdale is quitting the Street - despite being offered a massive pay rise to stay.
Stunned soap bosses wanted to up his £100,000-a-year salary by a THIRD so he'd carry on playing Gail Platt's pill-popping lover Joe McIntyre.
But Reece, 49, is turning his back on Weatherfield beacuse he's scared of being typecast. His character will be killed off next year when he takes an accidental overdose of painkillers.
Last night a Corrie source said: "Reece has been a massive hit and top brass thought they could strike a long-term deal. He was offered a massive pay rise but he turned it down.
"Executives were surprised. They wanted him to but he's wriggled off the hook."
Viewers have already seen kitchen fitter Joe get hooked on painkillers to cope with a back injury, and he'll soon go to drug dealers to feed his habit, turning on unlucky-in-love partner Gail.
Reece - who was in hit sitcom Home To Roost with John Thaw - joined Corrie in April 2008, saying talented actress Michelle Keegan, who plays his onscreen daughter Tina, was the reason. A Coronation Street spokesman said: "We wish Reece all the best."

DEIRDRE Barlow is to be made redundant as the Street gets hit by the credit crunch.
Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride, 55) is devastated when she’s axed from her town hall job.
She tells best friend Liz McDonald (Bev Callard, 52): “I’m nearly 55.
Who’s going to employ me at my age?
I’ll be lucky if I get a job on the tills at Freshco’s supermarket.”
She’s not the only Corrie character to be hit by the global financial crisis.
Joiner Bill Webster (Peter Armitage, 61) is forced to re-invent himself as “Bob the Builder” in a bid to target new customers.
His pal Pam Hobsworth (Kate Anthony, 49) tells him: “Everyone’s heard of Bob the Builder and Bill the Builder is even better.”
Butcher Graeme Proctor (Craig Gazey, 23) also loses his job.
An insider said: “Corrie tries to reflect real life and there isn’t a street in Britain which hasn’t been hit by the credit crunch.”

Rosie Webster will soon be seen designing her own brand of knickers after buying shares in Underworld.
She got a £150,000 windfall from evil John Stape as “compensation” for kidnapping her. And she was persuaded to plough the money into the factory by her lover and boss Luke Strong.
But in scenes to be screened next month, Rosie discovers Luke bedded her only to get his hands on her cash.
She goes berserk and attacks him, leaving him battered and bruised.
She then sells her shares cheaply to Luke’s business partner Tony Gordon and together they run Luke out of town.
