ROVERS landlady Liz and Vernon will tie the knot in a Corrie New Year’s Eve special.

Street bosses are planning over the top nuptials with Liz (Beverly Callard) in an extravagant dress and scruffy Vernon (Ian Reddington) likely to be in top hat and tails at the register office.

Executive producer Kieran Roberts told us: “It will be a great New Year wedding storyline complicated by the return of Liz’s ex–husband Jim (Charles Lawson) who will put a major spanner in the works.

“Liz’s son Steve will obviously be at the centre of the action, but we can’t say yet if his twin Andy will return for the wedding.”

It will be Liz's third marriage - she was wed to Jim twice in 1974 divorcing in 1997 before the couple re-married in 2000 when he was in jail before splitting again in 2005.

The wedding is just one of several major storylines planned for the soap before the end of 2007.

In the coming weeks, as seen in today's Sun young Bethany Platt almost loses her life after swallowing one of terrible teen David’s ecstasy tablets, which he’s hidden in one of her dolls.

Sarah Platt and Jason Grimshaw will tie the knot in November with her brother David banned from the ceremony. Tina O’Brien who plays Sarah is quitting the soap later this year.

Kieran added: “Tina has been absolutely fantastic and she has some fantastic storylines before, during and after the wedding.”

There will also be a new love triangle as Liam and newcomer Tony Gordon – played by ex-Peak Practice star Gray O’Brien – vie for the attentions of Carla Connor.

This autumn will also see the arrival of a new bookie and his son and Violet’s shapely sister Lauren.

Coronation Street has recently been described by some on the forums as "down in the doldrums" and "not worth watching". Until last Monday, I agreed. But, after watching the ecstasy incident and the surrounding episodes, I'm more than back into it. Autumn promises some HUGE episodes, so I'm told (I was actually caught in a lift with one of the script writers, which made for an interesting conversation). The wedding's going to be big and so is the fallout. And great news that Bruno Langley (Todd Grimshaw) was back on set earlier this week.

Meanwhile, EastEnders are currently filming the Slater-Branning wedding which is due to air around the same time as the Weatherfield nuptials and the episode during which Ian's stalker is revealed is nothing short of fantastic. I'm hoping that a certain newspaper doesn't go and spoil the ending before it happens on screen.

Fans of both Corrie and EastEnders will probably notice that the usual precedent is that when Corrie's good, 'Enders isn't and vice versa. But for the first time in a long while, they're both going to be on top form at the same time.

CORRIE bosses say they have no plans to retire veteran actress Betty Driver who has played Betty Williams for 38 years.

At 87, Betty is the oldest member of the ITV1 soap’s cast and she is still highly valued by its producers.

Famous for Betty’s Hotpot, she will be seen in upcoming episodes behind the bar of the Rovers Return making classic comments when Fiz thinks she has contracted a tapeworm.

Executive producer Kieran Roberts told TV Biz: “She is still going stronG and enjoying the role.. Betty is one of the Street’s great traditional characters who seem to have been there forever.

“It’s always been our aim to keep a great mix of contemporary stories with older, more traditional characters.

“Comedy and tragedy combined with very clever writing has always been a trademark of the Street.

“Though we have powerful storylines involving Bethany being taken to hospital after taking ecstasy tablets coming up, there are plenty of comic moments in the pipeline.

"They include Vera getting orgasmic on a massage chair and lecherous Dev making an idiot of himself.”

We always knew that there was something not quite right with Weatherfield's local teaching expert, Mr Stape, but if the Daily Star is anything to go by then he is far more corrupt than we could have imagined.

According to the Star's description, Rosie Webster will have a 'secret fling' with John, behind the back of his girlfriend Fiz Brown - but that's not the half of it. Sally Webster sets her sights on John, but is furious to find out that he has chosen her daughter instead of her. Sheesh!

Scarlett.
11-09-2007, 08:00 PM
Coronation Street producer Steve Frost today slammed a Sunday newspaper report suggesting that troubled teen David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) is to become involved in a firearms massacre storyline.

It was reported in the Star on Sunday that anti-firearm campaigners were furious with the "sick plot" following the tragic murder of Liverpool schoolboy Rhys Jones.

However, the suggested plotline – branded as "filth" and "absolute madness" – will not, nor was it ever intended to, play out on screen.

Mothers Against Murder and Aggression claimed that the Weatherfield soap would be "almost as bad as the killers themselves" if the rumours proved to be true, while anti-gun campaigner Linda Mitchell suggested that the alleged plot beggared belief.

In today's rebuttal, Steve Frost told DS: "The Star on Sunday's report that Coronation Street is planning to run a story in which 'David Platt tries to massacre his family with a gun' and that scriptwriters have 'studied mass murder cases involving 'family annihilators' is wholly untrue."

He continued: "David will be seen shooting cans with a low-powered air-rifle but there has never been any intention that he uses the gun in a threatening or irresponsible manner. David is a much-loved and important long-term character and there would be no sense in turning him into a murderer and hence foreshortening his life in the show.

"False reporting such as this misleads viewers and damages and defames the programme. The producers and writing team take their responsibilities to the viewers extremely seriously and always handle stories sensitively and suitably for the time slot."

He added: "The story suggested by the Star on Sunday would never have been considered suitable. What is, in fact, an intricate and on-going story of damaged filial relationships has been misrepresented and sensationalised in the Star's report."

Scarlett.
12-09-2007, 04:42 PM
I thankfully managed to overlook the main content of this report in the Daily Star, to get to the real detail that Coronation Street may be off on another foreign filming spree. Jerry Morton will end up naked in a fountain in the centre of Milan during a lads' stag weekend. It's down to new-found mate Kevin Webster to try to help out, but Kev returns to the UK alone when Jerry is banged up. With the help of the British consul, his daughter Jodie manages to get the sentence reduced to a £1,000 fine.

A couple of months ago there was a media-buzz over the news that Liz Dawn had decided to leave Coronation Street and her role as Vera Duckworth. Today the Daily Star gives away details of the Duckworth family's concluding adventure.

Jack and Vera will take a final holiday to Blackpool, where they will reminisce over their lives in Weatherfield and have many nostalgic strolls along the Prom. In a final statement, the Daily Star reports that after Jack wining on the horses and Vera at the bingo, the couple will move into a retirement flat close to the Red Rec, but Jack will continue to make appearances on Coronation Street.

From the ITV Character profiles:

Brought up on the wrong side of the tracks, Carla’s mother used to sell drugs from her pram and her brother is serving eight years in Strangeways for armed robbery. It’s little wonder that Carla seems hard-faced at times and is determined to prove she can run a successful business of her own. Since the death of husband Paul, Carla now owns 60% of Underworld with brother-in-law Liam owning the remaining 40%.

COMING UP
Will Carla and Liam’s relationship turn into something more personal than professional? Will her dodgy past catch up with her in her new life on the Street and undermine her at Underworld?

Coronation Street star Helen Worth believes that the Platt family's upcoming troubles will make better viewing than the classic Richard Hillman storyline.

The actress's character Gail faces a new family drama in scenes which will be broadcast next week. Gail's son David puts his niece Bethany in danger when he stashes an ecstasy tablet in her doll. The youngster takes the pill, mistaking it for a sweet, and has to be rushed to hospital.

Helen was part of one of the Street's biggest ever storylines when Gail married serial killer Richard in 2002, but she thinks that the Platts' latest plot is even more dramatic.

"Who would have thought you could have got better than psycho Richard Hillman? But this storyline takes over from that. It's just fantastic and brilliant writing," Helen told the Daily Star.

"Gail totally blames herself. She has tried to be a good mum, but life has gone against her. Gail is there to show people how not to bring up your children."

---------------------------------------------
The storyline begins tonight

Apparently Sarah's exit definitley will have something to do with her wayward brother David. According to Inside Soap, Sarah won't leave the street entirely happy, but she will come out on top... but in doing so she loses people close to her.

Fiz will start to realise that John is having an affair, but will suspect the wrong Webster- Sally! When in fact its Rosie. The truth will be unmasked at Christmas and there are sure to be shocked faces all round!!

Liz will be left wondering whether she really does love Vernon.

It looks like it wont be second-time-lucky at Sarah and Jason's wedding after David is blacklisted. David hates to see Sarah happy when he is so isolated, so he sends a "special invitation" to Todd Grimshaw. Sarah reacts badly when Todd turns up at the wedding, but David has other plans as well which will shock everyone.
Rumour- David drives Audrey's car into the canal and sends fake suicide letters to those closest to him

Liam and Carla will start having an affair... but as Liam's relationship with Maria gets serious, will he be able to resist his sister-in-law?

There will be more drama over Christmas for Steve and Michelle. An extrodinary revelation will turn Michelle's life upside down though her romance with Steve will stay strong.

CORRIE’S Roy Cropper cracks up and smashes EGGS at a supermarket after discovering wife Hayley fathered a lad.

The café owner — played by David Neilson — breaks down on a trip to the shops as the pressure gets too much.

Transsexual Hayley — actress Julie Hesmondhalgh — learned the bombshell news in a box of letters she found after a family funeral. She made contact with son Christian but pretended his real dad is dead.

She later confesses and is beaten up by Christian. Roy’s dramatic breakdown airs later this month on the ITV soap.

I feel sorry for David, the way he is is the product of Gail's mistakes and she's done nearly nothing to help. She should of helped him get over Richard Hillman after it happened and not let it fester, then he's behavior wouldn't be as bad as it is, and if it was a firm hand would have done the trick. Gail being stern now has just worsened the problem, A case of too little, too late on Gail's part.

Plus after all this she chucks him out, granted what he did was totally wrong, but you have to stick with your kids in the end you can't chuck them out after they've made a mistake or they'll carry that hate or contempt for the rest of their lives. Grrr Gail annoys me.

The nation has been hooked on the David Platt storyline in Coronation Street, in which he almost killed his niece Bethany - and now it seems the evil teen is set to try and murder his sister Sarah's fiance.

During gripping scenes this week we saw Sarah's daughter Bethany swallow an ecstasy tablet David (played by Jack P Shepherd) had stashed inside her favourite doll.

Now, in a sinister plot twist, he will enter the builder's yard where Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) works and loosen the bolts on the scaffolding around the office, reports the Daily Star.

When Jason leans into the bar the whole thing comes crashing down around him and he is left in a pile of rubble.

He pulls through but his injuries mean he will be on crutches during his wedding with Sarah (Tina O'Brien).

This week's dramatic episode - which saw Bethany rushed to hospital - pulled in a whopping 11.4million viewers.

THERE'S a new arrival in Coronation Street - and they've paid £20m to move in.

Furniture retailer Harveys begins its on-screen sponsorship of the Street a week tomorrow. Viewers will see a series of new screen trailers and `bumper' ads for the furniture firm around Corrie featuring a mix of real actors, computer generated imagery and puppetry.

The new sponsorship will also make use of the digital red button, plus online, mobile and in-store promotions.

Cadbury has now ended its £10m-a-year deal with ITV to sponsor the most watched soap.

Last Sunday's episode marked their farewell with the last of the company's ads around the programme.

The confectionary business decided to terminate its sponsorship, a decade after first becoming sweet on Corrie.

Its current deal was due to run out in December but the replacement sponsorship agreement has allowed Cadbury to bow out early.

Cadbury marketing director Phil Rumbol said: "Cadbury has had a wonderful 10 year association with the programme but, like many of its famous characters, it's time to say goodbye to the Street."

Breathing space

Episodes are now being screened without any sponsorship to provide a breathing space between the departing and arriving sponsors.

Harveys are reported to have signed a two-year deal worth £20m to sponsor the Rovers regulars and become part of the Weatherfield furniture.

That leaves open the question of who will be sponsoring Coronation Street when it celebrates its 50th birthday in 2010.

ITV executive chairman Michael Grade said: "Coronation Street remains the largest and most important programme brand on British television and we're delighted to welcome Harveys as our new commercial partner."

Ian Topping, chief executive of Harveys' parent company Steinhoff UK, said: "This is the most prestigious sponsorship deal within British television and we feel it is a great strategic step for us in our quest to become the nation's favourite furniture retailer."

Coronation Street has taken the title of Best Soap at today’s Inside Soap awards.

It was one of five gongs for the ITV show, putting it on equal footing with rival programme EastEnders. The draw was a good result for Coronation Street, which has not won the title of Best Soap in over a decade.

One of the show’s actor’s Antony Cotton, who plays barman Sean Tully, took home the Best Actor award, while Rob James-Collier, the Street's Liam Connor, won Sexiest Male and Best Newcomer. Actor Jack P Shepherd won Best Bad Boy for playing David Platt.

EastEnders actress Lacey Turner won Best Actress for her role as Stacey Slater, and together with on-screen fiance Charlie Clements (Bradley Branning), she also won the award for Best Couple. Best Bitch was won by Sophie Thompson, who played Phil Mitchell's crazed lover Stella.

Kara Tointon, who plays Dawn Swann in EastEnders, won the Best-Dressed award, while Stella's torment of Phil's son, Ben, took Best Storyline.

Emmerdale picked up two gongs, including Best Young Actor, won by Eden Taylor-Draper, who plays Belle Dingle. Charlie Hardwick was awarded this year's Funniest Performance for his role as Val Lambert.

Hollyoaks actress Roxanne McKee, who plays Louise Summers, was named Sexiest Actress.

The Bill was awarded Best Drama for the second year running.

Coronation Street was also named Best Soap at the TVQuick and TVChoice awards earlier this month.

Inside Soap magazine editor Steven Murphy said: "This was one of the most hotly contested years for the Inside Soap Awards, and it's wonderful to see so many new names on the winners' list.

"The race for Best Soap was neck and neck until voting closed, which just proves what an outstanding year it's been in soapland."

The awards were voted for by readers of Inside Soap magazine.

Sarah and Jason smile for the cameras on what should be the happiest day of their life.

Check out our behind-the-scenes picture gallery - exclusive to itv.com - by clicking on the link below

But Sarah’s brother-from-hell, David has other ideas and he plans to use every trick in the book to stop his sister tying the knot.

A year after Jason dumped Sarah at the altar – making a last minute escape through the registry office toilet window - the star crossed lovers prepare to say their vows.

Months of planning have gone into making it Sarah’s dream wedding and even the two warring mothers Gail and Eileen have buried the hatchet for the big day.

But David has been left off the invitation list – after he almost killed Sarah’s daughter Bethany with an ecstasy tablet he hid inside her doll.

Furious at being disowned by his family he sets about making sure the wedding never happens.

First he invites Jason’s estranged gay brother Todd – the same brother who cheated on a pregnant Sarah with another man.

Then he loosens the scaffolding at the builder’s yard – causing Jason to plunge to the ground only days before the ceremony.

But, as each plan does little to deter the young couple, David sets his sights a little higher and on the day of the wedding he decides to try and kill himself – leaving a suicide note and furious phone message for his mother.

Oblivious to what David is up to the congregation gather at the church – but will he get his way and halt the ceremony?

Ooh, this is a sad and bitter tale. Alison King (Carla Connor)'s ex-fiance has put her engagement ring up for sale on eBay.

"Alison and myself (actor Jim Alexander) got engaged in 2006," it says in the ring's description. "As documented by the tabloids, we decided to break off the engagement because of the stressful nature of our industry earlier this year. I feel that now is the right time to sell the ring as both of us have finally moved on."

There have been no bids for the item, which has a starting price of £800. It's apparently worth £2,000 and is, "a stylish, modern diamond platinum engagement ring by Leslie Davis ."

According to the Mirror, a "source close to Alison King" has said that, "It's upsetting, but Jim's a bit of a lad and won't think he's done anything wrong."

chewy seems to be not around at the minute so i'll post the october spoilers for coronation street

As we head into autumn and the nights grow cold, here’s some sizzling Corrie storylines guaranteed to warm the cockles of your heart in October.

It’s all go as plans for Sarah and Jason’s wedding step up a gear.

Todd Grimshaw’s return causes ructions when he turns up unexpectedly for Sarah and Jason’s big day. He’s got an invitation – but who sent it to him?

The hand of friendship is extended to Todd from a most unlikely source – none other than Gail Platt herself. It looks like Gail might be ready to forgive - but can she forget?

David does his worst to sabotage his sister’s wedding. His evil plans include a stunt that puts Jason in hospital and a suicide bid – can this boy get any worse?

As we all know, Sean’s never been one to keep a secret and he blabs again when he finds out the sex of Violet’s baby. Yes, he tricks his sexy sonographer boyfriend into revealing the truth. Does Sean tell the expectant mum the good news? No, he blabs to someone else instead – but who?

Kev and Jerry head off on a boys’ boozy trip abroad. But when only one of them return, someone’s got a lot of explaining to do.

Meanwhile, there’s trouble brewing for Fiz when boyfriend John starts getting cosy with Rosie. But how will Sally react to the news given that she’s developed a huge crush on the teacher?

And we’re happy to end on some good news this month as Roy resolves to make amends with Christian and Liam gets a new furry friend.

Not much really..

As you know, Roy and Hailey are camping and Becki shuts the café early saying that there was an ermengency but she went to Hayley's son's shop and hit him and a huge go at him saying that Hayley is the nicest person that she has ever met and so on.

Also Carla and Liam kiss which makes things really awkward but by the end of the episode they agree to make sure that it never happens again. Also, Clair and Ashley continue to argue over baby-sitting.

And, Paul admits manipulatively to Tyrone that he did take the money and then Tyrone tells Molly and Molly tells Jack and Vera and obviously they don't believe her and then Tyrone and Molly get dug deeper in the hole and Paul gets his feet further under the table.

And that's about it really.

Coronation Street's David Platt finally goes over the edge later this month when he drives his car into a canal in an attempt to commit suicide.

On the day of his sister Sarah's (Tina O'Brien) marriage to Jason (Ryan Thomas), David – played by 19-year-old Jack P. Shepherd – leaves a suicide note and voicemail messages for his family and sets off to kill himself.

A source told DS: "If it's the last thing David does, he's determined to ruin Sarah's special day…"

The dramatic on-location scenes were filmed yesterday in Manchester and are due to transmit in a one-hour special on Wednesday, October 31.

Small Spoiler
You all know by now that Jim McDonald is going to be back on Coronation Street later this year to put a cramp in Liz's style and a bump in the road to her wedding. The Mirror reports that the cast are already being warned about the return of Charles Lawson with posters featuring his mug shot plastered around the green room! The online article mentions Charles' past volatile reputation but I think that if there are posters, it's probably playing on the fact that Jim is being released from prison (though it's not another prison break, that would be too silly). More than likely it's just a memo! Now, if we could just get Andy to return to Weatherfield for the wedding too, we'd have the McDonald clan all back together once again! In any case, Charles going to be back for just six weeks and I for one, am looking forward to it!

Alot of interesting things coming up there.
Apart from the Morton going off the rails, is it like the 1000000 time we've seen a teen go of the rails.

Shock! Horror! The Mirror is reporting today that The Very Beautiful Liam and The Terribly Gorgeous Maria are going to get pregnant! If this is true, and a baby eventually arrives, Coronation Street casting staff are going to have their work cut out finding the world's most visually attractive twins to take over the role of the Connor-Sutherland offspring.

But I'm getting ahead of myself now. There is a long time, and a lot of dramatic potential, between the announcement of a pregnancy and the pitter patter of tiny feet. As "a source" told the Mirror: "They're two of the best-looking people in the show and they seemed a perfect couple for this story. It has the usual many twists and turns."

Samia Smith and Rob James-Collier are reported to be delighted about the upcoming storyline.

Carla Connor’s new man Tony Gordon might have brought a smile to Carla’s face and filled her office with roses.

But there’s trouble brewing when Tony’s crazy ex-wife Lindsey turns up.

Carla gets more than she bargained for as Lindsey storms into the factory and gives Carla a slap.

And it has been exclusively revealed to itv.com that crazy Lindsey will be played by actress Susie Amy, best known for her role as Chardonnay in Footballer’s Wives.

Susie starts filming next week and will be on the Street for three episodes.

That’s probably three more than Carla Connor might like

Tearaway David Platt is set to spark fireworks by putting a wedding dress on Guy Fawkes.

Fans must wait to see whether the frock is really his sister Sarah’s – or her bad-lad brother is having a lark.

It is still a closely guarded secret whether Sarah, played by Tina O’Brien, 24, actually ties the knot with Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas, 23).

The bonfire scenes were filmed in Manchester’s Heaton Park this week, and clearly show that tearaway David (Jack P. Shepherd, 19) survives his Halloween Night canal plunge.

Bad boy David is seen around the bonfire eating candyfloss beside despairing mum Gail (Helen Worth, 56).
A source revealed: “We see David being welcomed back into the family after his terrible behaviour, in which he tried everything to break Sarah and Jason up.

Pests

“But quite how long he can be on his best behaviour is anyone’s guess.”
Also warming their hands around the fire are pregnant Violet Wilson (Jenny Platt, 28) and the baby’s gay father, Sean Tully (Antony Cotton, 32). Meanwhile, some other pests brought the night shoot to a standstill – and this time David was not to blame.

The Bonfire Night scenes were hampered by a blitz of tiny midges which left the show’s actors and production staff scratching their heads in frustration.

At one stage the production team had to stop the cameras and hand out insect repellent sprays to every member of the itchy cast.
“Everyone was having a right old scratch – it was a complete nightmare,” revealed one witness to the filming.

“They were obviously attracted by the bright lights and would not leave the actors alone.
“Those midges must be big soap fans!”

Harry Mason? Coronation Street? I thought he was from Silent Hill?

NOT THAT HARRY MASON!!!

We told you recently that the betting shop on Rosamund Street is about to become a full set with a new set of father and son owners. Ian Wylie of the Manchester Evening News reveals that the senior owner is none other than Jack Ellis of Bad Girls (Jim Fenner) fame. This follows a long line of actors that have appeared on both Bad Girls and Coronation Street. Matthew Crompton, formerly of The Bill, is set to play the son and they will be called Harry and Dan Mason, both ladies' men so watch out, Weatherfield women! I predict Gail and Eileen will be at loggerheads over another man soon, maybe Sally's knickers will plummet to the cobbles and Deirdre's knees will go all wobbly. Maybe the son half of the duo will set a few factory hearts a-flutter or perhaps Becky will find herself a man and finally find a flat closer to work! Look for the Masons in early December!
