Listen Chewy your ignorance astounds me - I decide not to look at spoilers, that's why I don't post in this thread anymore. But I've now unintentionally found out that Sophie Webster's a lesbian because you were obtuse enough to put it in the title. There's a reason why some people don't look at spoilers, so GET RID OF IT!

Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell has claimed that the show's cast are living in fear for their jobs.
The actor, who has played Kevin Webster for 26 years, revealed that even long-established Weatherfield stars are concerned about their future following recent job cuts at ITV.
"We are scared that we face getting axed with what's going on," Le Vell told The People. "But we all have the attitude we will just carry on doing what we are doing to the best we can.
"What will happen will happen, but in the meantime we want to continue working hard as a team and hopefully we will reign supreme at what is a difficult time for ITV."
In February, reports suggested that the Manchester-based soap could be sold off to an independent production company due to the current financial climate.
Meanwhile, The People also claims that paranoia over the show's future has led to a widespread "mole hunt" in recent weeks.
Following recent storyline leaks to the media, executive producer Kim Crowther reportedly ordered staff to hand over their phone records - and also recruited an expert to sweep conference rooms for bugging devices.
A source revealed: "Staff couldn't believe what they were hearing. They deal with top-secret storylines and internal matters week in, week out so found it astonishing that the finger of suspicion should be pointed at them.
"Most were happy to do it because they knew if they didn't, questions would be asked. As for the bug sweep, it shows how paranoid the bosses have become. The atmosphere is really bad now because everyone is worried about their jobs in this difficult climate."
A ITV spokesperson this afternoon told DS: "We are very vigilant when it comes to protecting storyline leaks on both Coronation Street and Emmerdale as we don't want to spoil plots for our viewers."

EVERY star in Coronation Street fears they could get the sack as recession-hit ITV slashes its budget, The People can reveal.
And to add to the panic, Corrie bosses have launched the biggest mole hunt in the show's 49-year history after a spate of damaging leaks about secret storylines and unrest among the cast.
Senior production staff have been ordered to hand over records of their phone calls while script conference rooms have been electronically swept for bugs.
The unprecedented hunt comes as the flagship show struggles with falling viewing figures and low morale following ITV chief Michael Grade's£ 135million cuts across the channel.
All the stars - from veterans like Michael Le Vell who has played mechanic Kevin Webster for 26 years to newer faces like Kym Marsh who is bookie's assistant Michelle - are now braced for pay cuts and even the SACK.
ITV bosses are said to be - mainly slashing their daytime schedules and Coronation Street has been told its future is secure..
But Corrie stars like Michael, 44, Simon Gregson, 34, who plays Rovers' boss Steve McDonald and Katherine Kelly, 29, who plays his fiancé e Becky, could still be at risk.
Michael, who arrived on the Street in 1983 when he was 18, told The People:" We are scared that we face getting axed with what's going on.
Nervy
" But we all have the attitude we will just carry on doing what we are doing to the best we can.
" What will happen will happen, but in the meantime we want to continue working hard as a team and hopefully we will reign supreme at what is a difficult time for ITV." The nervy atmosphere has not been helped by executive producer Kim Crowther launching a clampdown on any cast unrest or sensitive storylines being leaked to the media as the show battles against a reviving BBC EastEnders.
Just a couple of weeks ago Miss Crowther called on her most trusted lieutenants to hand over their itemised phone records to make sure no staff were speaking to media without authorisation.
During the meeting where producers, script editors and other senior staff discuss storylines, they were stunned to see an eavesdropping expert sweep the conference room for BUGGING devices.
And in another shake-up to keep confidential Corrie info in-house, the meetings previously held in hotels were moved to ITV's Quay Street studio complex in Manchester where the show is filmed. One outraged insider told The People:" Staff couldn't believe what they were hearing. They deal with top-secret storylines and internal matters week in, week out so found it astonishing that the finger of suspicion should be pointed at them.
" Most were happy to do it because they knew if they didn't, questions would be asked.
Negative
" As for the bug sweep it shows how paranoid the bosses have become.
" The atmosphere is really bad now because everyone is worried about their jobs in this difficult climate.
" ITV need to keep Coronation Street flying high because of the ad revenue and overseas sales it generates.
" Crowther hates any negative stories about the show coming out."

News has just reached my inbox that the father of Sian Powers (Sacha Parkinson) has been cast in Coronation Street.
Actor Ian Dunn is to take on the role of Vinnie Powers and begins filming at Manchester's Granada Studios within the next few weeks.
Vinnie will make his first screen appearance on Friday, May 29.
What with the recent rumours that angelic churchgoer Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) strikes up a lesbian relationship with her best friend Sian, I'm thinking that Vinnie will have a lot to say.
But first, the protective father has to contend with Sian's relationship with Ryan Connor (Ben Thompson)...
His previous acting credits include Holby City, Waking The Dead, EastEnders and London's Burning.

Monday, 27 April 2009, 7:30PM - 8:00PM
It’s the day of Colin’s 70th birthday and Eileen (Sue Cleaver) is planning his surprise party with Rita (Barbara Knox). Paula (Sharon Duce) overhears the plans for the party from Rita but is horrified when she hears Pam (Kate Anthony) gossiping about Jason (Ryan Thomas) and Julie (Katy Cavanagh) getting it on the night before. She confronts an embarrassed but perplexed Julie with a hurtful tirade of abuse, leaving her daughter bemused about what she has done to deserve such fury.
Meanwhile as the guests gather at the Rovers, Colin (Edward De Souza) is delighted with his surprise party and stuns Rita with a surprise of his own.
With Steve (Simon Gregson) and Becky (Katherine Kelly) having reached an impasse over the situation with Amy (Amber Chadwick), Steve braces himself to tell Tracy that Amy knows the truth about where she is. But Becky is still determined to put her side of the story and tries to explain to Steve about her childhood, her father’s imprisonment and the constant lies. As Steve starts to understand Becky’s background a bit more the rift between them begins to heal.
Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) visits John (Graeme Hawley) and apologises for the mix up over her last visit – John is just delighted that she still wants to visit him and wastes no time in helping her with Chesney’s latest assignment. But he can’t help feeling disappointed when the bell rings for the end of visiting and he realizes he has spent the whole time discussing Jekyll and Hyde and not his feelings for Fiz.
Elsewhere Ken (William Roache) checks up on Peter (Chris Gascoyne) as he prepares to reopen the bookies following the fire.
This episode is written by Lucy Gannon and produced by Kim Crowther, the director is Ian Bevitt.

PI for the rest of the week follows:
Monday 27 April 8.30pm
A stunned but thrilled Rita (Barbara Knox) accepts Colin’s (Edward De Souza) marriage proposal to the delight of the party guests and the celebrations begin in earnest. Julie (Katy Cavanagh) is not best pleased that Jason (Ryan Thomas) appears to have been avoiding her all night but as the conversation turns from her annoyance with him to her upset at her mum having a go at her he can’t help but comfort her. When a drunken Paula (Sharon Duce) arrives at the party she spots Jason and Julie apparently getting cosy and outraged she decides the time has come for everyone to know the truth about why Jason and Julie can’t be an item.
Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) is excited to be getting stuck into Chesney’s (Sam Aston) Jekyll and Hyde project with him and he is impressed by how much work she is putting into his home schooling. When she fibs and tells him she has been helped by someone connected to the school he is convinced that her newly acquired glow means that she has a crush on them.
Steve (Simon Gregson) tells Lloyd (Craig Charles) that he has come to an understanding with Tracy over what happened and he apologises to Becky (Katherine Kelly) for being so hard on her. Amy (Amber Chadwick) shows he is right to give Becky another chance when she asks her if she will put her to bed.
Peter (Chris Gascoyne) arrives at the Peacocks to collect Simon (Alex Bain) and he and Ashley (Steven Arnold) are amused by Claire’s (Julia Haworth) insistence on feeding the boys a diet fit for a budding footballer. When Peter arrives home and contemplates raiding the flat for booze he is pleased when Ashley arrives with kebabs as a welcome distraction.
Meanwhile Ken (William Roache) is feeling smothered by the lack of interests he and Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) share and he can’t help comparing her to Martha in his mind.
This episode is written by Lucy Gannon and produced by Kim Crowther, the director is Ian Bevitt.
***
Wednesday 29 April 7.30pm
As the party descends into chaos insults are hurled and questions asked as Eileen (Sue Cleaver) demands to know exactly what Paula (Sharon Duce) is trying to say. As Paula explains the truth behind Julie’s parentage a horrified Rita slips out of the Rovers. Meanwhile Colin (Edward De Souza) can’t look anyone in the eye and his lack of denial is enough confirmation of the horrific truth for Eileen. Julie (Katy Cavanagh) meanwhile is struggling to come to terms with the news and Jason (Ryan Thomas) is relieved when she confirms that nothing happened between them the previous evening. How will Paula’s devastating revelation affect the lives of Julie, Rita (Barbara Knox) and the Grimshaws?
Faced with another night spent in front of the television with Blanche (Maggie Jones), Ken (William Roache) decides it is time he and Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) did something different and suggests a weekend away. Deirdre is enthusiastic but her plans to see Grease in the West End don’t quite match with Ken’s desire to do some brass rubbing at a church in Stratford-Upon-Avon. Disconsolate, Ken finds himself down at the canal – will he pluck up the courage to visit Martha?
Elsewhere when Amy (Amber Chadwick) reveals she is being bullied by a boy at school Becky (Katherine Kelly) is determined to protect her.
This episode is written by Julie Jones and produced by Kim Crowther, the director is Ian Bevitt.
***
Friday 1 May 7.30pm
A devastated Rita (Barbara Knox) is pleased when Norris (Malcolm Hedbon) turns up to help run things at the Kabin. Norris is concerned when he finds her engagement ring in the till and puts off making plans with Mary (Patti Clare) to be at Rita’s side.
Meanwhile Julie (Katy Cavanagh) is also coming to terms with everything she has discovered over the last 48 hours. She had spent years believing her father was a soldier who had died a war hero and now she finally understands why Paula (Sharon Duce) has resented her all her life.
Eileen (Sue Cleaver) is also reeling from the shock of Paula’s revelation and struggling to cope with the fact that her childhood memories of her dad and her friendship with Paula have all been destroyed in an instant.
Blanche (Maggie Jones) is frustrated when Ken (William Roache) refuses to gossip about the latest goings on in the street. With Martha on his mind he snaps at Blanche that there is life beyond Coronation Street and after telling Ted (Michael Byrne) that he feels that all his life’s hopes and dreams are with Martha (Stephanie Beacham) on the barge he decides to pay her a visit. Will she forgive him and accept him back into her life?
This episode is written by Chris Fewtrell and produced by Kim Crowther, the director is Ian Bevitt .
***
Friday 1 May 8.30pm
Ken (William Roache) is a man in love. Having persuaded Martha (Stephanie Beacham) to give him another chance, he has little regard for Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) and as Martha reminds him that they should savour life till the end he knows he has a big decision to make. Martha tells him that she is leaving Manchester at 4pm and if he wants to be with her then he should tell Deirdre and be on the barge by then. He returns home from his ‘walk’ to a full house and as he observes Peter (Chris Gascoyne), Simon (Alex Bain), Deirdre and Michelle (Kym Marsh) enjoying a game of hangman he is torn between duty and following his dream.
Paula (Sharon Duce) pays Eileen (Sue Cleaver) a visit and is adamant that she will not take the blame for what happened. Eileen apologises for what she said in the Rovers and listens as Paula tells her how it all began. Its then Paula’s turn to listen as Eileen explains how the whole situation has reawakened raw childhood memories of her relationship with her mother. But Eileen knows that she has to tackle this situation with her father and when he comes round to try and reconcile she tells him how she really feels – but as he listens to Eileen it soon becomes clear that Colin (Edward De Souza) is not a well man and he collapses. Jason (Ryan Thomas) and Sean (Antony Cotton) return to find paramedics wheeling Colin out on a stretcher and Eileen in a daze.
Becky (Katherine Kelly) and Amy’s (Amber Chadwick) relationship goes from strength to strength when Becky steps in to stop the bullying.
This episode is written by Simon Crowther and produced by Kim Crowther, the director is Ian Bevitt

Coronation Street actor Mikey North suffered a broken jaw and required emergency surgery after being attacked during the Easter break.
According to The Mirror, the 22-year-old - who plays Weatherfield's cocky Gary Windass - was assaulted by two attackers as he returned home from a club with his girlfriend and a group of friends in his hometown of Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
Reports suggest that the two thugs provoked North about his Corrie role, before leaving him in a heap on the pavement, covered in blood.
Following the attack, North attended A&E at the local hospital for treatment.
A Coronation Street spokesman said: "There was an incident at the weekend which resulted in Mikey North sustaining facial injuries."
They added: "He was treated in hospital and the matter is now in the hands of the police."
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police commented: "A 19-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the incident. He has been released on bail while police enquiries continue."

Coronation Street actress Samia Smith has taken a leave of absence following the death of her father.
The 26-year-old, who plays Weatherfield's pregnant hairdresser Maria Connor, was reportedly close to dad Joseph.
With Maria currently a central character to the ITV soap's storylines, filming schedules for the show have had to be re-jigged at the last-minute.
A Corrie spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with Samia and her family at this sad time."
At the end of last year, Smith appeared on a celebrity edition of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The death of Samia's father is the latest tragedy among the cast and crew of Coronation Street.
In February, William Roache's (Ken Barlow) wife Sara died suddenly of a suspected heart attack.
Just days later, Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor) and partner Jamie Lomas - Hollyoaks' Warren Fox - announced the loss of her premature baby.

You'd think that, with me writing about TV pretty much every single day of the last million years, I'd know loads about telly. Sometimes, something comes along and makes me feel like I've never seen a minute of it. You see, I had no idea that Coronation Street ever had a spin-off! What makes it even more baffling is that it starred the legendary Arthur Lowe! The show was called Pardon The Expression and is being reissued by Network on a 2-disc DVD. So what is the show all about? Well, read over and I'll tell you...
Pardon The Expression follows the mixed fortunes of former Weatherfield boutique owner Leonard Swindley (played by Lowe). In his new position as assistant manger at a Dobson and Hawks chain store, the punctilious but ambitious Mr. Swindley seizes every opportunity that might afford him the chance to scale the social heights - from organising strategic civic functions to securing lucrative new orders for the company.
Featuring scripts from an award-winning team that included Coronation Street contributors Harry Driver, Vince Powell, Geoffrey Lancashire and noted playwright Jack Rosenthal, the show helped to define the type of comic role for which BAFTA winner Arthur Lowe would be most fondly remembered: that of the pompous, quietly floundering buffoon. Betty Driver - soon to be installed behind the bar of the Rover's Return also stars as canteen manageress Mrs. Edgeley in this first series of the popular sitcom, originally screened in 1965.
The release is a PG and hits the shelves on the 4th May and should retail at £19.99. For your money you get 300 minutes (approx.) of Corrie-esque giggles and episodes including 'The Trouble With Ada', 'The Wedding', 'The Pensioner', 'The Little Boy Lost' and 'The Brain Drain'. Sounds great!

CORRIE legend Betty Williams is to be SACKED from the Rovers, TV Biz can reveal.
Barmaid Betty, who has served up her famous Lancashire hotpots since 1969, is given the push by newly-promoted manager Poppy Morales this summer.
But stalwart Betty, played by Betty Driver, 88, WON’T be leaving the show. Bosses have told her she can stay on as long as she likes.
Her card is marked at the Rovers when landlord Steve McDonald promotes feisty Poppy (Sophiya Haque).
Steve (Simon Gregson) puts her in charge when mum Liz (Bev Callard) goes to Spain to stay with his twin Andy.
Poppy fires Betty — best known by her former surname of Turpin — for refusing to swap shifts.
Betty was once given the chop by legendary landlady Annie Walker when she was working behind the bar with Bet Lynch.
After her latest sacking, she tells locals: “Sacked, after all the years I’ve given this place. Annie Walker — now that was somebody to be sacked by. Alec Gilroy and Bet — at least they sacked people with a bit of class.
Sacked ... Betty
Sacked ... Betty
“But to get my cards from that madam Poppy when she’s not even been here two minutes, it’s nothing short of scandalous.”
Despite 40 years on the show, Betty is determined to carry on working to avoid disappointing her fans.
An insider told TV Biz: “Betty is a viewers’ favourite. She’s got a place here as long as she wants it. She’s more of a fixture than the cobbles.
Rovers special ... hotpot
Rovers special ... hotpot
“She’ll be here for a long time to come — she’ll just be on the other side of the bar for a change.”
Betty has landed in trouble with other Rovers’ landladies.
She was shown the door when Annie Walker (Doris Speed) accused her of pinching cash. Her only other break in service was when she walked out in 1995 after Jack (Bill Tarmey) and Vera Duckworth (Liz Dawn) took over the pub.
Vera demanded that Betty do the cleaning as well as serve behind the bar and make hotpots.
But when Betty threatened to start selling her famous dish in rival pub The Flying Horse, Vera apologised and begged her to return.

Hello fellow Corrie fans, haven't posted here in a while. Just been browsing the DS soaps section which is so biased in favour of Eastenders I've vowed never to post there again.
It's like whenever EE does bad in the ratings it's to do with football, nice weather, big competition, Emmerdale etc. but whenever Corrie does badly it's because it's crap apparently!
Anyway, had to get that off my chest...
Lovin Corrie atm :cheer2:

It was indeed. I loved the part where Claire kicked the football through the Barlows' window. Felt so sorry for Tara though, that Dev's a knob.
And yes, Corrie does get stick on there, maybe it's because they expect more from it than the other soaps.

There's a nice interview with my new favourite, Craig Kelly, who plays lovely Luke Strong, in the Mirror today. He was pretty excited to be walking the cobbles of the venerated Coronation Street and admits it's really got a kind of magic. Now that he's settled in, he's got over being nervous and is stuck in to the work which he's enjoying as it's a different part from those he's played in the past. He says "It's great fun to come in and play an attractive, confident, cheeky charmer." (And that he is!) He's getting recognized more but it doesn't seem to be too much of a problem for either him or his fiancee (the wedding is this summer!) who's used to being with an actor now.
dean-lennox-kelly-prof1b.jpgCraig has been in the business for 17 years and his brother is an actor as well. You may recognize him, Dean Lennox Kelly from the recent series Being Human and, before that, as Kev on Shameless! (Wow! Now that I know that, I can see the resemblence, too! This photo is Dean.) His brother was the one that really had the acting bug, Craig's dream was to play football! However, Craig did well in drama school and has never really struggled like some actors.
Craig talks about behing a cheeky schoolboy (I'm not surprised!) and having dull after school jobs but one of his earlier small acting parts was in the blockbuster movie Titanic where he fleeced costar Leonardo DiCaprio for $30 in a poker game...which was never paid! He figures the interest has hiked that amount considerably since then!
Joking aside, another thing you may be surprised to know about Craig is that he's been into kickboxing for some time now and is quite good at it. Sounds like he is a nice fella, not that far from Luke Strong in personality. Let's hope he sticks around to rattle Tony's nerves for a long time to come!

Actress Samia Smith and her husband Matt have announced they are expecting a baby.
Samia, who plays Maria Connor, is 13 weeks pregnant. Her baby is due in October.
Samia is also pregnant on screen and Maria, who lost a baby last year when she was eight months pregnant, is due to give birth in July.
Samia said: “I have been pregnant on screen for the best part of the past two years and as soon as I get rid of the fake baby bump I will have a real one!”

Ashes to Ashes actor Marshall Lancaster will make a comeback to Coronation Street at the end of June.
The 34-year-old, who plays DC Chris Skelton in the BBC police drama, returns to filming with the Weatherfield soap in a few weeks' time as Becky Granger's (Katherine Kelly) wayward ex-boyfriend Slug.
Talking of his return, he told DS: "I'm going back for a bit longer this time. The opportunity for him to come back was always there.
"There were a couple of times they asked me back and I was filming Ashes at the time so I was disappointed that I couldn't do it and I didn't think they would hang on. But luckily it's worked out this time and they've written him back in so I'm really chuffed with that."
Slug was last seen leaving Becky stranded on the Moors after stealing Roy (David Neilson) and Hayley's (Julie Hesmondhalgh) Morris Minor Traveller.
Joking about the length of his latest stint, he continued: "There will be a good few episodes with Slug in this time I should imagine. I suppose it depends what he gets up to and how long it takes before he gets sent down!"
He is due to reappear on screen at the end of June and is rumoured to cause havoc for Becky and Steve (Simon Gregson) as they prepare for their second wedding.
Speaking about working with Katherine Kelly, he beamed: "She's brilliant. She makes life so easy for you - the first day I was on set she helps you to settle in. My first scene was walking down the street with this dog that was uncontrollable and trying to find its owner and it said [in the script] 'Slug gives Becky a dirty snog'.
"That was my first scene and I was thinking 'Oh God!' My mouth was dry, but she said 'Don't worry, love!' She really put me at ease and was very talkative and lovely."
Ashes to Ashes continues on Monday at 9pm on BBC One.

Coronation Street's Jack Duckworth is to have hearing aids fitted after actor Bill Tarmey suffered ear problems in real life.
The 68-year-old star has struggled to hear his colleagues when filming scenes for the ITV1 soap in recent years.
Tarmey has now started to rely on hearing aids of his own and is keen for his alter-ego Jack to follow suit in future episodes.
"Deafness sort of creeps up on you. It was starting to get a bit embarrassing," Tarmey told Glasgow's Sunday Mail newspaper. "On the set, people would have to prompt me to start speaking if the prompt came from the right-hand side.
"Jack is five years older than me and there will be nothing at all unusual about a character of 73 having hearing aids. That's why I have asked the scriptwriters to get a storyline included."
Tarmey confirmed that his hearing problems stem back to his time working as a cabaret singer in noisy clubs before he joined Weatherfield in 1979.
The actor recently admitted that he is unsure over his long-term future with the soap and may soon quit his role for good.

It looks like we'll be seeing a lot more from Graeme (Craig Gazey) and David (Jack P. Shepherd) over the coming weeks through to June as they continue with the young Platt's revenge plot on Gary Windass (Mikey North).
Apparently, Graeme and David plan to burgle Audrey's (Sue Nicholls) house with Gary's help, but I hear that not all goes quite to plan.
I think the plan was flawed, though, when they agreed that Graeme - complete with camouflage - would be their lookout...
David's looking quite inconspicuous, too...

The EastEnders actress said she’d like a stint on the rival soap because it would add to her list of achievements.
The 71-year-old said: "I kind of have worked with most people I'd want to.
"I suppose I wouldn't mind having a go in Coronation Street for a bit, you know, see how they do it."
The Carry On star arrived in Albert Square as tough Peggy Mitchell in 1994.

News just in from the cobbles to the blog is that Alison King, who plays Carla Connor, is going to return from maternity leave earlier than expected. She'll start filming in July and we'll see her on screen in the autumn. But will Carla's return be enough to save Maria from Tony's evil clutches? We'll have to wait and see.

Did you see the on-location shots I posted on Monday?
Well, it appears that David Platt's (Jack P. Shepherd) plan to frame Gary Windass (Mikey North) for burgling Audrey's (Sue Nicholls) house is all systems go - until Ted (Michael Byrne) arrives, that is.
After the scare, Ted doesn't look too well, especially with the arrival of paramedics on the scene...
It's great to see Mikey North is back to full strength again so quickly following his savage beating earlier this month, in which he suffered a broken jaw.
A spokesperson this morning told me: "We're glad that he's back with us and thankful of his speedy recovery."

A female Coronation Street director was injured on set earlier today when a car collided with her.
At around 12.30pm, preparations were underway for filming a scene, which involved a small amount of non-essential background car movement.
However, filming was halted when an action car collided with the unnamed female member of the production team. No cast or other crew members were involved.
She was subsequently taken to Manchester Royal Hospital to be checked by doctors.
A Weatherfield spokeswoman this afternoon said: "We can confirm an accident occurred on the set of Coronation Street today during filming. The accident occurred as the crew were setting up for a scene which involved a small amount of vehicle movement.
"Contrary to press speculation, this accident did not occur during the filming of a stunt. The female director has been injured as a consequence and been taken to hospital. No other member of the crew or cast has been injured."
Producers have since called in ITV's health and safety advisors to investigate the incident.
The spokeswoman added: "ITV's health and safety team on-site in Manchester are currently conducting an investigation into how this accident occurred and are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive."

More info:
CORONATION Street was plunged into chaos this morning after a female director was STRUCK by a car during filming.
The production member was mowed down as cast and crew filmed scenes for the Manchester-based soap at Granada’s famous Quay Street studios.
Worried bosses and stars immediately halted filming and ambulances arrived to treat everyone caught up in the smash.
The female director involved was later taken to hospital.
A source told The Sun: “One minute they were filming and the next minute ambulances were screeching along the cobbles.
“Everyone was very worried for a while though it soon emerged there was no life-threatening injuries.
“However, filming has been cancelled and there has been some damage to the set.
“It’s definitely going to play havoc with the tight filming schedules.”
An ITV spokeswoman said: "We can confirm an accident occurred on the set of Coronation Street this morning during filming.
"The accident occurred as the crew were setting up for a scene which involved a small amount of vehicle movement.
"The female director has been injured as a consequence and been taken to hospital. No other member of the crew or cast has been injured."
Bosses are now conducting an investigation into how the accident occurred.
The spokeswoman added: "ITV’s Health and Safety team on site in Manchester are currently conducting an investigation into how this accident has occurred and are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive.”

CORONATION Street stars watched in horror as a runaway car mowed down the director on set yesterday.
Kay Patrick was hit as she set up a scene on the cobbles near the Rovers Return when the car’s accelerator jammed.

Vicky Binns, 26, who plays Molly Compton, fled in tears while Michael Le Vell, 44 — mechanic Kevin Webster — was shaken.
Kay, 68, was last night being treated at Manchester Royal Infirmary for a suspected fractured hip.
Another production staff member was hit and slightly hurt.
The driver was treated at the scene for shock.

Help ... ambulance at scene
Filming on the ITV1 soap was halted for the day at Granada Studios, Manchester.
One fan waiting for autographs outside said: “I heard a really loud bang then screaming.
"Then I saw crew and cast members running across the set. Some were crying. They all looked pretty shocked.”
A Corrie insider said: “The cast and crew are absolutely horrified.
“The car was being driven around when the accelerator pedal jammed. It lurched forward, knocking down Kay. She was in agony and everyone feared the worst. Thankfully she just injured her hip.”
Veteran soap director Kay’s credits include EastEnders, Holby City, Emmerdale, Brookside and Crossroads.
She started out as an actress on classics like Dr Who and Z Cars in the 60s.

I think Corrie need to cut down their hours, at the moment its two episodes on monday AND friday, and a hour shared between the other days. Which is THREE hours which is wayy to much IMO, and its making the quality in general go down. They should have it like they used to a few years back.
Scarlett.
02-05-2009, 01:47 PM
It actually has pretty much the same as the others
Emmerdale = equivalent of 6 episodes a week
Eastenders = Around the same as Corrie (Doesnt have commercial breaks)
Hollyoaks = Same as Corrie
Although I agree, it would benefit from dropping an episode, or moving one back to Sunday

I think they need to have more of a EE style these days if they want to keep the hours, just focus on a different set of characters each week, so we dont keep coming back to the same storylines again and again, yet they can 'brew' if you get me???
And we need something new and interesting to happen.

It's been a relatively quiet few months in Coronation Street and as Ken's affair with Martha comes to an end and Eileen begins to come to terms with the fact that Julie's her sister, Tara continues to plot her revenge on Dev, while David continues to plot his revenge on Gary. As part of DS's Producer Season 2009, we recently chatted to Coronation Street's leading lady Kim Crowther about the show's recent spate of storyline leaks, Tony's downfall, Carla's return and the ITV soap's 50th anniversary.
You've had a few storyline leaks of late - it must be quite frustrating for you?
"It's very frustrating when you're working so hard on a storyline that you think will have a great impact, but could potentially be a damp squib if everyone knows about it. I hope that we play stories in such a way that they'll have a great impact even if you know what the outcome might be. Lucky, though, we've just come away from story conference and some of those stories have changed. It's always the way, though. We'll have an idea and when writers go away and work on it, they come back to the table and they go in a slightly different direction. It's very frustrating nevertheless.
"I've been speaking to the conference table about things that have been leaked and how we can prevent that in the future. It's just fruitless and frustrating for the viewers. We have been taking measures and we take [these leaks] very seriously. We just won't stand for it."
Maria and Tony's relationship... What went through your mind when you decided to throw them together?!
"A couple of the writers actually came up with this one and I thought it was genius - it's Richard III. I think I hinted at it last time we spoke that there would be a surprising new direction for Tony and I definitely think it is. The last 12 months will make sense when you see where we take the story. It'll be very exciting and interesting to watch this relationship develop knowing what we know."
Will Tony definitely be involved in Maria's birth?
"Well, it'd be a shame if he wasn't, wouldn't it? He'll be pretty involved in that, yeah..."
Tony can do no wrong in the eyes of the Street's residents! Surely he has to get his comeuppance?
"He will. Tony's done a great job on a charm offensive on the Street, covering his tracks well in the process. But, of course, he's not superhuman - he's not a machine. He's not someone who's just gone on a rampage as a serial killer. He killed someone in a crime of passion. But when faced with having to kill someone with his bare hands like with Jed at Christmas, he couldn't actually do it. Those failings, which make him different as a villain, will come back and haunt him. They'll be his undoing."
Are you excited for Alison King's return as Carla? What can we expect from Carla when she's back?
"I can't tell you that! Obviously she's very important on the Street and is connection to so many people. All I'll say is that she will have a big impact when she returns and she'll answer some questions that couldn't be answered in the way she left. She's back in early autumn. Her return's been pushed back a bit, so the exact plans for that haven't been mapped out in full detail yet."
Are we really going to see Molly and Kevin embroiled in an affair?
"I've really loved the Websters in the last year - they're a fantastic family and we wanted to give them a big story. Tyrone and Molly are newlyweds and Tyrone works with Kevin, so what could be more awful? Some viewers who have been watching for years will probably remember that ever since Kevin and Sally got married again, it's been a bit of a one-sided love. Even though he went off and had that affair all those years ago, Kevin's been devoted to Sally and he was delighted when she agreed to remarry him. We've seen Sally go through numerous affairs with Ian Davenport, for example, and more recently her flirting and developing a crush on John Stape.
"I think Sally's probably settled for Kevin. They do have a strong family and expect to grow old together, but what happens when Kevin finds out that someone's more interested in him? And what could be worse than the woman being his best mate and business partner's wife? It takes us into some interesting territory. It's a biggie, which has some other surprising twists and turns. It just gets bigger and bigger."
Joe's on a slippery slope, too, isn't he?
"Yeah, he's going to have a bit of a problem. Gail never finds a man with no problems, does she? In true Gail Platt fashion, we soon start to see through all the layers of Joe and discover that he's flawed with all sorts of problems. Him starting to take pills for his bad back becomes an issue for him and has quite disastrous consequences. The big questions further down the line are whether Gail stand by her man and whether there's enough love between them to get them through the problems that he brings to the relationship. And what will David think?"
Luke seems to have usurped the alpha male position on the Street and I hear there's a lot more to come from him...
"Definitely. He has a bit of a holiday romance with Michelle before she goes off on tour, but that doesn't quite go to plan. It shows us another side to him. He's not a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy and he quite likes Michelle, so it's quite surprising for an alpha male. They get under each other's skin a little. Further down the line, Rosie bats her eyelashes at him and we take that in a different direction - that employee/employer relationship that she's always wanted and tried to have with Liam and then Tony. It might just bear fruit this time…
Does Luke have a secret?
"Well, he did arrive in quite a mysterious way, with Carla placing him in the factory, didn't he? Like I say, the questions that were set up when Carla left will most definitely be answered when she returns."
Becky and Steve are heading for wedding number two - the real one. Will it all go to plan?
"All I can tell you is that it's going to be bigger than the first one! We see some problems heading to wedding number two because Becky's ex Slug turns up. He surprises us when he returns because he doesn't come back quite the way we remember him. That'll complicate Becky and Steve's relationship."
Were you happy with wedding number one?
"It's been interesting hearing people's thoughts on the first wedding. What I thought was brilliant about it was that Becky herself messed up the first wedding. Only a well-drawn character and a brave show could do that. Every other show - and on this show in the past and, I'm sure, in the future - sees a bombshell dropped to scupper a wedding. Someone dies, someone arrives with a baby, someone arrives with a secret… What I thought was brave and original about this wedding was that everything was fine. Everything was going to plan. But Becky herself was such a flawed character that she couldn't allow herself to have the happiest day of her life. Keep watching, though, there's another wedding on the way!"
Eileen was criminally underused for months, but she's not starting to come to the fore... Does she have some more interesting material lined up?
"Eileen will be happy for a while – never forever, though! Jesse comes back into her life and we're hopeful that this will be a decent guy for her. He has his own baggage, though. He'll certainly be adding some colour to the already-colourful Grimshaws'. There will be some complications along the way, though, for Jesse and Eileen."
Last time we spoke, you were hoping to bring back some of the Mortons. How's that going?
"Well, Teresa's back. At the moment, that's all we have plans for. As much as I liked other cast members, we couldn't resist bringing Teresa back. That's the only character we have plans for at the moment."
Corrie's 50th anniversary is on the horizon - have you already started thinking about what you'll be doing?
"Our anniversary isn't until next December, so we haven't got the exact mechanics of it mapped out, but we've been having lots and lots of meetings about what ways we'll be celebrating the 50th and what storylines should be at the foreground."
Do you envisage going back to the show's roots and delving into the history book?
"I think there should be a sense of that, but at the same time, I'm not really interested in gimmicks. I'm interested in good storytelling with characters we love at the centre of them."
Maybe a few returns in the pipeline?
"Maybe a couple. There are a couple who we're talking about, but it's too early to say at the moment."
We're into the second week of Producer Season 2009 and the second soap boss to take centre stage is Coronation Street's lovely leading lady Kim Crowther. Click your clicker this way to read the main part of the interview, or read on for a nice batch of cryptic teasers as to what we can expect from the residents of Weatherfield in the coming months.
§ The Platts will go through an explosive autumn when Tina decides that she's had enough of David.
§ We're looking forward to Jane Danson's return because we have a massive story for her comeback. We've just started storylining that. It's a really big, heartwarming and emotional story connecting her with the Barlows.
§ The Molly/Tyrone/Kevin/Sally storyline's going to be huge and ties in nicely with Sophie's story as well as Rosie's story with Luke.
§ What I'd say about the Tony story is that the way in which he's 'undone' isn't from any of the players you'd expect. It's a very surprising turn of events, which bring about Tony's downfall. I think everyone thinks it'll happen as soon as Carla returns, but it doesn't. I've just come out of long-term and there's a really exciting new direction for Tony's story over the autumn going into the winter.
§ Claire and Ashley take us in new directions, too. We'll start to see them back on screen more. Something happens to them which make them question how they go forward in their marriage. It puts a big question mark over their family and forces them to examine their lives.
§ We have a great new direction for Dev after Tara's exit. Further down the line, we build more family around Dev again and it might signal the return of some old faces…
§ Ken and Deirdre have been through so many affairs that they deal with Ken's recent extramarital activity with Martha in a mature way. Instead of Deirdre causing a fuss, she just asks Ken whether he's staying or not. So there's an 'ickyness' about their relationship. They march on and we do revisit the awkwardness in their marriage, but they stick together. They become much more involved in Peter's story over the next 12 months with Leanne and Simon. It becomes a big family story. It also involves seeing some of Simon's mum Lucy's family.
§ We've got quite a big storyline that we're filming at the moment, which sees David trying to get revenge on Gary in an attempt to get him out of Tina's grasp. It all goes horribly wrong and so Gary has to pay the price for getting into bed with David and going along with one of his mad plans. There's quite a big fallout from that which makes the Windass clan regroup and appreciate what they actually have.
§ David finds out that he's had his eye off the ball and he's been worrying about the wrong admirer for Tina. It's actually Jason who'd had his eye on Tina and that rumbles on. We revisit the Platt/Grimshaw war again, too!
§ We'll keep Julie involved in Eileen's story. She's just found out that she's her half sister and she wants to be part of the family, so she's not going to let Eileen forget it!
§ In all, we'll be bringing Corrie down to great, domestic drama again.

Chesney’s (Sam Aston) still missing and Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) is worried sick. But he hasn’t gone far and when Eddie (Steve Huison) and Anna (Debbie Rush) find Chesney hiding in their garden shed he comes clean. Telling Sophie (Brooke Vincent) how Fiz has been visiting John in prison he refuses to go home. But when a relieved Fiz hears he’s safe and tells him Schemichel has been pining for him he reluctantly agrees to go back. Fiz breathes a sigh of relief but the backlash hasn’t ended. Sophie’s passed on the news of her reunion with John to the Websters and when Sally (Sally Whittaker) comes banging on the door a vicious row soon escalates.
With the loan shark piling the pressure on, Joe’s (Reece Dinsdale) desperate to get back to work despite still being in pain. As he loads up his van, Joe winces. Gail’s (Helen Worth) concerned for him but Joe takes some more painkillers insisting he’s fine.
Norris (Malcolm Hebden) is busy swotting up on his general knowledge for the pub quiz that evening. But when Rita (Barbara Knox) tells him Ramsay (Andrew Sachs) will be joining them Norris is furious and declares he won’t be taking part.
Eileen’s (Sue Cleaver) struggling with Julie’s (Katy Cavanagh) sister act and when she parks herself in the cab office wanting a cosy chat Eileen can’t wait to get rid of her, much to Lloyd’s (Craig Charles) amusement.
And Luke (Craig Kelly) pulls out all the stops to convince Michelle (Kym Marsh) they can have a holiday romance before she leaves.
This episode is written by Jayne Hollinson and produced by Kim Crowther, the director is David Kester.

PI for the rest of the week follows:
Monday 25 May 8.30pm
As Sally (Sally Whittaker) flies at Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) Kevin (Michael LeVell) is forced to hold her back. Chesney (Sam Aston) defends his sister but with the Websters gone he tells her she has to choose between him and John (Graeme Hawley). In turmoil Fiz visits John in prison and as she breaks down revealing the details of her rows with Chesney and Sally John’s insistent they must end their relationship for her sake. Fiz is heartbroken but burying his pain John insists it’s for the best. Battling their emotions will Fiz and John be able to say goodbye?
As Luke (Craig Kelly) and Michelle (Kym Ryder) sip cocktails in the backyard with their feet in the paddling pool it‘s clear his efforts have had the desired effect. But as the couple move inside they’re interrupted by Ryan (Ben Thompson) and Sian (Sacha Parkinson), who were also looking for a bit of privacy. Ryan’s annoyed to find his mum’s romancing has put an end to his, although Sian’s secretly relieved. There’s no stopping Luke and Michelle though as they head back to his flat to finish what they started.
Rita (Barbara Knox) cunningly dupes Norris (Malcolm Hebden) into changing his mind about the quiz by pointing out that if he’s not there Ramsay (Andrew Sachs) might win. It’s a tight contest and Norris and Ramsay finish up head to head in a tie-break. Norris wins and instinctively he shakes Ramsay’s hand. Are relations between the two brothers thawing?
When Joe (Reece Dinsdale) refuses to pay Gary (Mikey North) double time for the Bank Holiday, Gary tells Joe he can stick his job.
And David (Jack P Shepherd) asks Darryl (Jonathan Dixon) to spy on Tina (Michelle Keegan) for him, sure she and Gary are getting closer.

Wednesday 27 May 7.30pm
Michelle’s (Kym Marsh) late for work after her night of passion with Luke (Craig Kelly). She lies to Peter (Chris Gascoyne) as to why she‘s late but he can see straight through it and it’s clear he’s jealous of her burgeoning relationship. So when Luke arrives asking Michelle to spend the day with him Peter refuses her the time off. He then decides it’s time to make his own move and presents her with a good luck card containing Eurostar vouchers for Ryan to visit while she‘s on tour. When Michelle then calls at Peter’s to thank him he admits how much he feels for her and begs her to stay in Weatherfield. Will Michelle be swayed?
Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) feels destroyed by John’s rejection of her yesterday. But as the factory girls gossip about Fiz’s relationship with John she refuses to accept it’s over. Fiz is all too aware of the repercussions of what she’s doing but she can’t help herself as she sends a letter to John in prison.
As Sian (Sacha Parkinson) and Sophie (Brooke Vincent) discuss Ryan’s (Ben Thompson) gig, Sian reveals she’s worried that Ryan might go off with Tamsin Beasely as she‘s made it obvious she‘s interested. Sophie tries to reassure Sian but it’s still weighing on her mind as she and Ryan share a kiss in the ginnel she tells him tonight‘s the night. How far will she go to keep her man?
Blanche’s (Maggie Jones) hips are hurting because of Peter's stairs but seeing away to reclaim his flat he suggests Blanche uses the situation to her advantage to get some home improvements made at the Barlows. Blanche knows Ken (William Roache) and Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) want her to move back in so she tries her hand at bribery.
With Joe’s back (Reece Dinsdale) back still causing him trouble he starts to rely on his painkillers to get him through the day’s work.

Lunging at him Vinnie claims Ryan raped Sian. Stunned Ryan denies it but when Vinnie continues to threaten him it looks likes things are about to turn very nasty.
Natasha’s (Rachel Leskovac) had enough of Tony (Gray O’Brien) hanging around Maria (Samia Smith) and bitchily tells Maria how Tony only gives her the time of day out of pity. Maria’s hurt and confronts Tony. He assures her it isn’t true but inwardly he’s fuming with Natasha.
Chesney (Sam Aston) tells a hurt Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) that he’s decided to go back to school then he won’t have to spend any time with her. Meanwhile (Graeme Hawley) John receives Fiz’s letter in prison. He knows losing contact with Fiz is for the best but as his heart breaks will John stay strong?
Michelle (Kym Marsh) admits to Maria (Samia Smith) that deep down she fancies Peter (Chris Gascoyne) not Luke (Craig Kelly). But will Peter’s plea be enough to keep her in Weatherfield?
Gary’s (Mikey North) unemployment status is playing into David’s (Jack P Shepherd) hands. Putting his plan into action David then talks up a burglary he’s planning with Graeme (Craig Gazey) in front of Gary. Gary’s intrigued but will he bite?
And Joe (Reece Dinsdale) goes to see the doctor about his back. But he’s anxious when he’s prescribed some lower dosage painkillers.

With her head in a spin Michelle cancels her date with a put out Luke and goes round to thank Peter. Seizing his opportunity Peter pours out his heart to Michelle, thanking her for never judging him. As they fall into a passionate kiss are Michelle’s plans about to change?
Meanwhile Sian (Sacha Parkinson) explains to Ryan the reason her dad thought they’d had sex is because he found condoms in Sian’s bag. Ryan assures her they don’t have to have sex until she‘s ready.
Tina (Michelle Keegan) agrees to a date with Gary (Mikey North) but only as a mate. Gary’s chuffed and feeling life is on the up he tells David (Jack P Shepherd) he wants in on the burglary. David’s secretly delighted his plan is coming together but when he sees Tina and Gary getting on the bus together he resolves to get his revenge.
Tony’s (Gray O’Brien) at his malicious best as he dumps an unsuspecting Natasha (Rachel Leskovac). Stunned by the viciousness of his attack, Natasha’s scared by his threatening manner and warns Maria (Samia Smith). Apologising to her rival Natasha tells Maria that Tony’s a headcase and she should stay well clear. But will it be enough to put Maria off?
And Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) is gutted when Chesney (Sam Aston) makes it clear he wants nothing more to do with her.

SHOBNA Gulati will make a dramatic return to Corrie after three years away from Weatherfield.
The actress, who played Dev’s wife Sunita Alahan, is thought to be returning to the Street later this year.
She's expected to make trouble for her cheating ex-husband, played by Jimmi Harkishin.
Fans saw Shobna's character flee in 2006 after finding out that Dev had had several children with different women.
A source from the soap said: "Talks have been going on for some time to finalise a deal acceptable to all those who are involved.
"Sunita was a great character, so to have her back is exciting."

Coronation Street's Sean Tully and Jason Grimshaw are about to embark on their first ever plotline in the soap together, Mirror.co.uk can reveal.
And actors Anthony Cotton and Ryan Thomas revealed to us that the plot would be "comedy" - as well as being "romantic!"
Since his real-life girlfriend Tina O'Brien's departure from Corrie, there had been rumours that Ryan's future on the show could be in doubt.
However, now it seems he's staying in Weatherfield for a good while yet - though exactly WHAT the pair's storyline entails is still a bit of a mystery.
Ryan explained: "I think it's going to be a bit of comedy, but at the end there's going to be a bit of drama."
Anthony added: "It's going to be really, really funny. It's like a comedy of errors - for Ryan. It's funny to everyone else apart from Jason, haha."
Anthony continued: "I've literally just done the first set-up scenes. I'm really looking forward to it because I adore Ryan. And it will mean we're going out on location. Away from the cobbles! I can't really say anymore though."
Ryan interrupted: "It is going to be romantic too, haha!"

A show spokesman said: "Talks have been going on, but nothing has been signed and sealed."
We will let you know if, or when, Sunita's return is finalised!

CORRIE’S Maria Connor is set to give birth on a beach — with her husband’s killer acting as midwife.
Evil Tony Gordon takes Maria for a long walk to hurry up the overdue baby’s arrival.
But it works too well — and he is forced to deliver the little boy himself in the scenes filmed yesterday.
Maria — played by Samia Smith, 26 — has no idea that Tony ordered the killing of her husband Liam after discovering his affair with wife Carla.
The knicker factory boss has now started to fall in love with Maria.
He takes her for a stroll after Eileen Grimshaw tells her: “There’s nothing better than a bracing walk to hurry up baby’s arrival.”
But as Tony chases her dog Ozzy with a frisbee, Maria doubles up in pain and screams for help.
Her words are carried away with the wind and by the time he returns, her contractions are getting fast.
They have no mobile phone signal and Tony tries to run for help — but Maria begs him to stay.
He is forced to carry her, saying: “Everything will be OK, but we’ve got to get off this beach now. So just try to relax and enjoy the ride.”
But soon she is in the final stages of labour. The terrified widow, who lost her first baby last year, screams: “I’ve nothing left Tony. I can’t do it.”
But he kisses her on the head, saying: “You have to keep going Maria — for the baby’s sake. Do it for Liam.”
Maria names the little boy after his dad.
Tony — played by Gray O’Brien, 40 — quips: “As seaside souvenirs go, he certainly beats a stick of rock.”
Filming in Ainsdale, Lancs, was interrupted by frequent low-flying RAF aircraft yesterday.
But the cast soldiered on, armed with hot water bottles, deckchairs and large coats.
The scenes are set to air in late June.

Another two Coronation Street characters are to be written out of the show, Digital Spy can confirm.
Darryl Morton and Vicki Dankowska - played by Jonathan Dixon and Wanda Opalinska - will bow out of the show later this year owing to "natural story progression".
Meanwhile, Nikki Patel (below), who portrays Dev Alahan's (Jimmi Harkishin) daughter Amber Kalirai, will now appear on an "episodic" basis as opposed to an ongoing contractual one. Her storyline will see Amber leave for university in September and make numerous reappearances thereafter.
However, reports claiming that Andrew Whyment (Kirk Sutherland) it to be written out of the Weatherfield soap are unfounded as he recently signed another contract to remain with the show for at least another year.
A spokeswoman for the soap this afternoon told DS: "Some characters will be leaving Coronation Street later this year as part of natural story progression. Characters have always come and gone in Weatherfield, some stay for years, others pass through. This is not about cost cutting it is about storytelling."
Dixon, 20, joined Corrie in March 2007 and is now the only remaining original member of the Morton family - most of whom were axed last year. Polish actress Opalinska, meanwhile, first appeared on the Street in February 2007 and has mainly served as a background character at local knicker factory Underworld.
Other recent or upcoming storyline-based departures include Sharon Duce (Paula Carp), Sophiya Haque (Poppy Morales), Pattie Clare (Mary Taylor), Edward de Souza (Colin Grimshaw), Ayesha Dharker (Tara Mandal) and Andrew Sachs (Ramsay Clegg).
In March, Philip McGinley was written out of the show as his character Tom Kerrigan had 'run his course'.

I'm so angry though - Amber is a great character. First Tara, now they are demoting Amber - theres no way she can have any storylines if shes going to be on screen once a month or something.

Bread maker Warburtons has been announced as the first brand partner for Coronation Street's 50th anniversary marketing lineup.
The 12-month deal will see the launch of a promotional calendar at the end of the year and allows ongoing use of the official anniversary graphics and artwork on products and all advertising platforms.
Official show sponsor Harveys, meanwhile, will "remain at the centre of all activities" over the anniversary year.
ITV's director of promotions and new business Corine Pouvreau Miles said: "Coronation Street's and Warburtons' brand values and popularity are perfectly aligned; both loved and embedded in the fabric of Britons' lives. The promotional calendar will feature as an integrated part of the overall 2010 celebrations, across all platforms and outdoors."
She continued: "Coronation Street's official sponsor Harveys will remain at the centre of all activities around the celebration, and we look forward to announcing further promotional partners in the lead-up to summer 2010."
Warburtons' marketing director Richard Hayes said of the deal: "As Britain's favourite baker, Warburtons is delighted to be working with the one of the UK's most-loved TV programmes. Coronation Street and Warburtons combine proud Northern roots with wide national appeal and our shared family values make for a strong partnership."
He added: "We will be working closely with Coronation Street and our fellow partner brands to deliver an engaging, integrated marketing campaign to celebrate the 50th Anniversary."
As previously reported, marketing activity surrounding the Weatherfield soap's milestone year is based on the 'Best of British' theme.
Other ventures include a Coronation Street Nintendo DS game and an official beer, while ideas such as tea sets and lingerie are also being explored.
