Nice one Ryan. Best thing you've done so far
Agreed:D, I felt Ryan's disgust towards her and Neil McDermott actually has done good with this storyline. I just hope they think more of what Ryan can do when Neil comes back from paternity leave..
Pat got on my nerves tonight:rolleyes:, throwing the accusations when she tried to frame Janine for murdering Laura and has forgotten about the Barry incident. She of all people knows what Janine is capable of..
Enjoyed the lighter scenes at Dot's, some comedy with Kat's beetrot, Shirley's impressions and the horse thing. Glad that Bianca and Phil decided to teach Connor a lesson too and also poor Jean, being Kat's babies godmother is a consolation for her beloved Stacey leaving but she's always going to feel the heartbreak of her departure:bawling:.

Loved the Kat, Shirley and Ronnie scenes tonight. Shirley's line about David Attenborough made me laugh seeing as I'm a big fan of his documentaries.
I'm actually quite looking forward to this baby storyline on NYE's. I know that sounds sick but nothing's really happening in the show at the moment, most of the storyline's have finished and everyone's in a state of limbo. Will be good to have a big storyline running again even though it will be intense viewing.

I totally agree about the baby storyline, it's going to be shocking and heartbreaking to watch but I have every confidence Eastenders will do it justice and deal with it sensitively.. I just hope they can find a way to keep Ronnie in the show as I really like her and Samantha Womack:).
Eastenders still really needs a couple more characters in the 20-25 age group to try and fill the void now that the marvellous Stacey has left. I think Eastenders is on the up and I have confidence in Bryan Kirkwood now that Santer's storylines are done and dusted...

Connor needs to die, hope Phil kills him. Whitney is sort of annoying as well now, seems they don't really know what to do with her.
Marsh.
27-12-2010, 04:24 PM
Glad they're finally portraying what we all knew: Phil Mitchell is too old and needs to stop with the hard man act. They've stopped the good looking women falling at his feet all the time and given him someone in his league with Shirley. Now we need a new hardman to "slap him down" and stop having everyone scared of him.

God, is it too much to ask for a bit of happiness. I'm all for gritty and well executed drama but some lighter times are entertaining too.
They've got a good little friendship developing between Kat and Ronnie which would be good in bringing back the fun side Ronnie used to have and now it's gonna be ruined by Friday.

Kat is starting to grow on me again, I much prefer her less mouthy.
I've always liked Kat:D, she's immense.
Poor Jean:(, she'll eventually get over Stacey leaving but the heartbreak will always be with her because Stacey was her main carer and the one person she depended on plus not being able to see her grandaughter is another reason to feel down and Sean's out there somewhere. I would love it if both returned together somehow in the future because I liked them as a family unit despite the producers not having much scenes between them.
Connor should be axed, dire character.

True. How many storylines relating to death can they pile on Janine?
Accidental death, murder, attempted murder, natural death etc. Surely there's nothing left for her to do unless they do something drastic to mix things up. Give her a baby? (Obviously with the recent stabbing, not yet lol)

Ronnie won't be able to stay after the baby storyline, will she? When the truth is out in the open I don't know how she would be able to live in Walford when everyone knows what she's done, surely Kat wouldn't stand for that.

This is Walford after all, things are forgotten like Tanya burying Max alive (pathetic storyline) and Lauren running him over so the producers could come up with a reason to keep Ronnie there. Unless Samantha Womack has decided to quit or is going due to the possible inevitable ending of Ronnie due to the storyline.
The show is in need of some more male characters, who are strong because they are lacking in this...

That's the stupidity of the storyliners at EastEnders. Most Slater sisters have been raped, and some on more than one occassion by a completely different rapist within 12 months of each other. And now Ronnie loses a baby/child every six months or so in every way possible; grown up killed in car accident, miscarriage, cot death etc.
So, they choose the two characters that probably have the worst track record with children. Some might call that clever and meaningful, I call it idiotic and repetitive. How much gurning do you reckon we'll have to put up with from the two women. Good actresses but I'm sick of watching them cry; let's see some range.

No, you'd think they'd keep away from this stuff after they've gone HD. They're obviously getting a bit too experimental, they probably thought it would be movie like lol.
It was Heather's side that made me laugh, she had a halo round her head with chunks of her hair going pixelated.
They've filmed on a real tube before, I don't know why they couldn't have done it this time. A bit random that she just runs into Heather on it anyway.

Yeah HD really shows stuff like that up badly. The Corrie tram crash looked hilariously fake on ITV HD (I watched it again in SD & it didn't look half as bad). Hefter wouldn't use the tube anyway, she'd go on the bus as with an Oyster card it's much cheaper & a flat rate between any two destinations, seeing as she's so skint :D

I don't like the storyline & it is absurd that you wouldn't recognise your own baby! They don't all look alike (unless they are identical twins) :nono:
This isn't EastEnders tackling the subject of cotdeath, simply EastEnders doing something for shock value/drama & to hit the headlines...

Tonights episode was so bad, jesus. So yeah, we're meant to believe Roxy would leave her sister who is clearly very upset, for her annoying random gay mate who is banging on about some stupid kiss.
Also all these 'distractions' Alfie was having, erm you're about to check your new born kid and someone is shouting you about a CD player, like you'd actually go down. You'd obv make the baby total priority.
The baby switching doesn't wash either. If you're a new parent surely you're gonna stare in awe at your kid for hours on end, theres no way you'd mix them up.

Marsh.
01-01-2011, 08:54 PM
I didn't like it either. The execution is all wrong and Scott Maslen's attempt at crying was awful. Hope his acting doesn't drag the others down. Sitting in the square hearing Kat scream felt a bit forced.
But I do feel better after hearing that tomorrow Kat notices the baby's not hers and screams it's not the child she gave birth to but obviously everyone puts it down to grief.
Least they're not making her out to be a complete moron.
But Kat being in and out of hospital is ridiculous. It's a crappy plot device that screams "Get her out the way for Ronnie to make the switch and then back again just in time to react to the death". It's just not having the effect the producers are going for. There's way too many glaringly obvious coincidences and conveniences. They'd have been better off with the two babies being switched in hospital or something.

How was it terrible?
Actually yeah there was a point about 15 minutes in where I was like just thinking is this just some chance to show the characters falling over eachother drunk in a pub with a bunch of blokes shouting 'Wahhhay!' every 4 minutes.
But the ending was good.
It's a soap, It's meant to be dramatic, it's hardly terrible.

Glad that Kat notices the difference, surely this will mean she will notice Ronnie has her baby then? Cant help thinking wont Roxy be suspicious too??? After trying not to let her see 'James'.
I think that was the point, to build up if the swap will happen or not and when will they eventually find out the baby is dead.

Kat'll kill her. Ronnies done for. Jack will abandon her, as will Roxy as a mother herself. Her only hope would be her own mother.
Marsh.
02-01-2011, 01:36 AM
I don't think they'll abandon her. They'll have the obligatory screaming and shouting from Kat. Jack will be disgusted and then Ronnie will have a full on breakdown and him and Roxy will have her sectioned. That's what I think anyway, then she'll come back six months later and the writers will think up another scenario in which she'll lose a child. Knowing this show anyway.
I think that was the point, to build up if the swap will happen or not and when will they eventually find out the baby is dead.
I meant the writing is too coincidental. The timing of the death as Kat is rushed into hospital, Charlie leaving the baby alone, Ronnie making the switch and then Kat making it back in time to react to the death, and Jack pulling up as Ronnie makes her way over to take the baby back.
I mean obviously they need to use plot devices for them to tell a story but there's too many obvious/implausible ones.

I feel sorry for people who've suffered this but people have known for quite a few months that Eastenders were going to do this storyline so were warned in advance.. meh 3,400 complaints isn't a big deal if 9-10 million people are still tuning in.
If they don't like it then simple thing is to not watch, even if they complain to OFCOM which is their right of course they ain't going to pull the plug on the storyline.

My mum and nan have been complaining about the storyline and the show in general (about how depressing and repetitive it is) but would never dream of officially complaining to ofcom. Thank god they didn't have Charlie screech: "Yes, I aaam"
But all this buzz about Sam quitting. I've seen it on 4 different shows today it's ridiculous. Isn't it possible that Sam told the producers she didn't want to continue past her current contract so part of why they wrote the storyline was as her exit as opposed to her quitting because of it.
And I wish Anne Diamond would go away. One appearance, giving her opinion in one interview would be fine but she's everywhere banging on about it.
Very sorry to hear she had to suffer through her own child's death but why keep bringing it up. If it offends and upsets her so much, then don't watch it.

Everyone's over reacted. I hated the idea of the storyline and still do but at the same time it's a fictional television show, it isn't real and when it gets to points were I hate it I can change the channel.
But why are people banging on about Sam leaving because of the storyline?
Maybe, she had already quit. The storyline was created as her exit storyline, and with all the complaints and the fact they're shortening the storyline means that Sam's time on the show has also been cut somewhat shorter so that's why they only just announced it.

Baby James fans should think of it like this, in 3 years time he could be the new face for Triple Velvet after gaining so much support on such a big soap.

I don't understand how people can say everyone is over reacting. Some mums lose their babies to cot death and believe it or not they are unhappy with this storyline! Okay some people are jumping on the bandwagon with this, that I agree with but some people are genuinely upset and distressed by it. None of the complaints have been about the cot death plot, in fact that has actually been praised, it's the swap element which is causing the controversy. It is sick to see a woman take someone's baby, not caring one bit about the grief she's causing it's parents. I know she's ill but still she knows what she's doing. In real life when babies are snatched, the parents never see their baby again, this storyline is different in that eventually the baby will be reunited with Kat and Alfie. It's just so unrealistic, I've never heard of a "baby swap" in real life and it's ruined what could have been a real hard hitting plot (cot death). But that being said, I personally have no problem watching the scenes, I am and will always be a fan of EE and I think the acting in this storyline has been fantastic.
Marsh.
07-01-2011, 04:50 PM
I'll agree with the article about the sensational, desperate attempt at ratings with a very unrealistic (and upsetting) baby swap. But,
But how often does your everyday life involve murder, prostitution, incest, rape, paedophilia, homosexual affairs, torture, gang fights, drug addiction, alcoholism or armed robbery?
Do they not report stories involving all of the above all of the time?
Not a single individual's everyday life, but those horrid things are happening all the time in the real world. And even if they didn't Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and the majority of TV is as guilty of it as Eastenders. That article is just jumping on the bandwagon and trying to sound intelligent.
And aren't they themselves being offensive with the 'homosexual affairs' comment? Wouldn't 'affairs' in general be apt. What difference does the sexuality make?
Worse, the bereaved mother is portrayed as an immoral madwoman when in fact she deserves sympathy.
And that's a silly comment. Ronnie isn't being portrayed as a villain 100%. She's been going mad for the past two years.
And as for 'immoral'. Well it is immoral isn't it, that's why they're complaining?
“It has upset a lot of mums and dads who have been through the worst nightmare a parent can endure and stayed sane, sensible and responsible.”
Not surprised it upsets them, it's bound to. But i'm sure there are a lot of things other than a TV show (which they shouldn't watch if they're offended anyway) which reminds them of the tragedy everyday.
And also where does Anne Diamond get the idea that the show is trying to show that every woman who loses a child loses her senses and would swap the dead baby for their neighbours live one. Again, that relates to the fictional story of Ronnie Mitchell.

Shocking Whitney spoiler
The Daily Mirror reports that 18-year-old Whitney - Bianca Butcher's step-daughter, played by Shona McGarty - will become a £50-a-time hooker after a row with her family.
Whitney was previously the victim of child abuse by Bianca's former partner Tony King. Scriptwriters are collaborating with Comic Relief on the storyline, which will highlight the sexual exploitation of young women.
I actually think this will be interesting and i'm glad that EE aren't giving in to the OFCOM brigade, bet they'll be ringing up about this next:rolleyes:. This kind of thing has been in the news recently so hopefully it will help raise more awareness.

Of course that isn't Ronnie giving Tommy back to Kat, she simply said "Take him" as Kat wanted to hold him the other day & Ronnie wouldn't let her...
It's to make you THINK she's handing him back to her... Just like when she tried telling Roxy that James was Tommy by saying "It's Tommy" & Roxy assuming she meant it eas Tommy's death that was upsetting her...
Obviously the more harrowing scenes of Kat clutching the coffin were cut (thankfully) & replaced with that rubbish with dozy bint & her mate...

I agree. They'll definately drag it out some more. I wish they wouldn't. I'm sick of hearing about it now

Was confirmed on Daybreak this morning too that it wasn't the end of the storyline...

They cut scenes and replaced it with that stupid Jodie and her mate. Was ridiculous, i thought i was watching a bit of the only way is essex, so obviously out of place

Why did they make the scene so bad, I mean surely they could've come up with something better. All they were doing was repeating what the other one said

Because it was done at the last minute, probably only within the last couple of days, was awful...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well, I hope I'm wrong though, I hate this story :/

I can't believe people didn't realise it was a fake reveal.
They always do at least two fake reveals before a storyline climaxes. Like during an affair storyline someone will confront the cheater angrily with an "I know". Cue the duff, duff.
Then in the next episode they start rabbiting on about something else.

Err, I did... :xyxwave:
How hilarious was the final scene tonight though, we are supposed to believe that was Walford East tube station?!? :joker: It looked like somewhere very suburban with all the trees in shot etc... They could have at least picked a station which actually looked like it could be in their location...

Did Charlie actually even say where he was going?? I mean he decided to leave, packed one suitcase & was off on the tube in the space of about half an hour... It's his bloody house ffs & what about all his stuff?! Very silly, especially as Kat ran after him & basically forgave him & told him she loved him, he had no reason to still leave!

Phil and Glenda:yuk:, can't wait until the fabulous Shirley finds out and dishes out her wrath:D. Although as a Phirley fan they have to get back together!
I agree about Kat looking better without the make up:).

About the tube station, I think we should just be thankful they didn't go back to greenscreen for the exit. Charlie stepping onto thin air to Julia's Theme would have been quite the scene.
