Max is my fave character,I do like Michael but dislike him at the same time, which is good as it shows he is a good actor as that is how his character should be portrayed:xyxwave:I like the calibre of actors in EE,I think Jean is great as is Kim,who makes me laugh, the worst imo is the 'new' Lucy
Michael reminds me of Brendan! They're both a bit crazy!

Having a valid opinion
'I don't like Dot because she is being portrayed as very mean and that is unlike her character'
'I think the quality of the show has gone down because the characters are not being given realistic storylines'
Purely slagging off the show for no specified reason, the same thing over and over again, which is clearly going to grind some people's gears
'is anyone stil watching this ;lol'
'i echo you mate - sham'
'all we need now is that awful ben to go along with with the rest of the crew apart from a few - deadenders is dyer.'
'if this is classic EE - you have not seen it when it was good <'
'like EE generally - it is pathetic'
Fair enough.

I really don't like how they treat Jean like crap, she is lovely and if Stacey was still around she would not stand for it:nono:.
Kim is hilarious:D. EastEnders is including fun scenes recently!

Jean never used to be like this, though, did she? Her bipolar was actually portrayed accurately, up until about a year ago. Since then, she's become some silly nutter. It's pretty offensive to those who actually suffer from it. It's disgusting.

I enjoyed tonights episode.
Jack and Denise scenes made me laugh. Derek was bizzare.
Poor Andrew at the end and i'm glad Dot realised he didn't kill Hev, now Shirley has banned them from the funeral.

It makes me laugh that Shirley is acting the way she is when in the last few months SHE was the one who treated Heather the worst. But maybe that's what it is, her taking her guilty conscience out on everyone else.
The week Heather was killed were a well made set of episodes but the show has slipped into tedium again. Alfie and Kat in another affair storyline, Derek, Derek and Derek. And Bianca's money worries are not only boring but baffling; people like her in real life are cashing all the benefits cheques they can lay their hands on.

Last night (Tuesday)'s episode was very "all over the place", ranging from very good (the scenes with Ben, Phil and Shirley) to absolutely abysmal and pointless (I mean, what was all that nonsense with Ray and Bianca about?). Bar this Heather stuff, which is holding some interest (enough to keep me watching), nothing's happening, although, to be fair, at least there's something going on.

The Bianca/Ray thing in Tuesday's ep was important, cos its showing how Bianca is struggling lately,
and she's leaving the Square soon due to her struggles, so a build up is necessary and I know this is just food but she's having financial problems too so it's all fitting with the upcoming storyline.

EastEnders bad boy Derek Branning is in for a shock as his long-lost daughter Alice will soon be arriving in Walford.
Jasmyn Banks has been cast in the role of Alice, who turns up on Albert Square desperately searching for answers from the father she has never met.
Alice has been brought up by her overprotective mum and older brother Joey, who has always spoken ill of their estranged father.
When she heads to Walford, Alice wants to find out the truth about her dad for herself. Ever the optimist, nice girl Alice is eager and excited to meet Derek (Jamie Foreman) - but whether she'll be pleased by what she finds remains to be seen.
http://i2.cdnds.net/12/15/618x780/soaps_eastenders_jasmyn_banks.jpg
Pictured: Jasmyn Banks as Alice Branning
As Alice has led a sheltered life, viewers will also be left to wonder how she'll fit in with the rest of the Brannings and the drama which surrounds the family.
Banks commented: "I've been a fan of EastEnders forever and am thrilled to be cast as a Branning. It's such a privilege to be working alongside Jamie and I can't wait to find out what's in store for Alice."
EastEnders' executive producer Lorraine Newman added: "Jasmyn's a great actress and we are delighted to have her join the cast as Alice Branning.
"Alice will help us glimpse a softer side to Derek and, being part of the Branning clan, there's a huge amount of history for the pair to draw upon which gives us great potential for the future."
EastEnders fans will see Alice's first scenes next month.

It's not a new thing, though. For me, the last time EastEnders was any good for any significant period of time was probably 2007 (Ian Beale's stalker, Queen Vic Raid, Stacey and Max, Patrick's attack, Stephen's return and shooting of Jane, Stella/Ben/Phil, Dawn/Mad May/Rob, Mitchell Sisters arriving, Lucy/Craig, Brighton Week, Cindy, all held together by pitch-perfect pacing and plot development). As you can see, there was loads going on. Since then, it's been very average at best, with a few half-decent periods since then (late 2009/early 2010, summer/September 2010, maybe the first three weeks of 2011). I agree, though, that Kirkwood's period has very easily been the worst, but at least he tried. He's only human.

Not a bad couple of episodes, to be fair, bar all this Roxy/Alfie nonsense. No, I'm still not impressed. Lorraine Newman and whoever it is after her (Lorraine Newman's only temporary) have a lot to sort out and that may well take a while. I can't say I've particularly enjoyed EastEnders since about May/June 2008 (bar the odd exception), but these past two years have been particularly bad.

Ian finds out about Ben being the killer next month:eek::D.
Monday 14 May 2012
Ben thinks that Shirley has overheard a conversation between him and Phil about Heather’s death - and makes a horrifying revelation.
After drinking a bottle of lager and taking some of Cora’s hay fever remedy, Jay starts to babble incoherently about Heather’s death, to Abi's concern.
Kim decides to cheer her man up with some fun in the bedroom but her plan fails when an unsuspecting Ray turns up with a guest.
Derek is thrilled when Alice agrees to meet her family, but just as he is about to leave for the party he is unavoidably detained.
Tuesday 15 May 2012
Ian struggles to comprehend Ben’s shocking revelation. And how will Ben and Phil react when he advises them to go to the police?
The party for Alice at the Branning’s house is awkward. As they wait for Derek’s arrival, the rest of the family are singing his praises - until Tanya reveals some home truths about her dad.
Thursday 17 May 2012
Shirley takes comfort from watching footage of Heather’s hen party and gives it to Dot in the hope that it will it have the same effect.
Denise comes up with a plan to make Kim and Sasha spend the day together, but it goes awry when Kim gets in trouble with the local authority.
Michael does his best to solve Janine’s problems, but is dismayed when his efforts backfire.
Friday 18 May 2012
As Ian’s life crumbles around him he is forced to make a shocking decision about his future.
While Shirley is taking small steps to deal with the loss of Heather she also does her best to help Dot, who is still struggling.
Phil and Ben do their best to convince Jay to come back home..

Terrible episode. The performances were good but the storyline doesn't ring true at all.
Walford have obviously never heard of any kind of benefits system or tax credits.
And then at the end it was revealed she owed something like £1,000. The way they've been going on it was like she was in fear of losing everything and owed thousands. Couldn't afford a tin of beans to feed the kids etc yet she bought a TV and all the other crap which could easily be cashed in.
Or Carol could ask one of many brothers to help out who seem to be running businesses with no problem.
Or Ricky, who apparently has stopped sending money for the kids which is odd.
Then she nicks money on her own doorstep where everyone knows who she is. lol
Just really bad writing all round. Probably written by someone rich who hasn't the first clue about the working class.

Simply dreadful episode. I actually don't even know what happened - it was all bull. Thankfully, Kirkwood's nearly out now, but it's not fair on us viewers. Talk to anyone and they will tell you it's been crap since the aftermath of the live and whilst I think people are unnecessarily harsh on 2010, 2011-present has been simply inexcusable. We deserve episodes were things actually happen.

28-04-2012, 12:16 PM
I don't understand why people are complaining about yesterday's episode because of how "unrealistic" it was.
EastEnders is not meant to be completely realistic fgs. And it never has been. The fact that there's murders every year on the Square, Dirty Den coming back from "dead" a couple of years ago etc - none of it would happen in real life. So I don't know why people are saying it's just nowadays where EastEnders is unrealistic and blaming the current writers, especially something so minor like the whole situation with Bianca.
If it was 100% realistic like everyone wants it to be then the show would be boring as **** and you know it. Of course Bianca could have seeked benefits or something - but why would the viewers want to watch that? It's a soap you know.. it's meant to be gripping.. which it was. I thought it was a fantastic episode. So cut the writers some slack, gosh, it's like people are never satisfied

Marsh.
28-04-2012, 12:25 PM
If it entertained me and "gripped" me I may have been more lenient but it wasn't either for me.
If they'd skirted over the benefits thing by having her in 20 grand of debt or something it would be a tad more believable.
But the fact that they've said they're completely penniless, when 4 of them have jobs is just plain stupidity. Changing a character to suit the plat (Ie. Ricky's not bothering to pay child support apparently even though he went off to earn big money in Dubai and yet came back with nothing).
They have a family of men owning their own businesses who would help out and offer money but she's too proud to ask and yet she'll beg Janine (the Scrooge of the story).
Just because it's not real doesn't mean they can just make up whatever crap they want and we should buy it. If they'd even attempted to make it believable it wouldn't matter.
Even without bringing benefits into it, she was only in £1,000 debt. She was acting as though she was going to die from it and was in thousands upon thousands of debt.
Me. I Am Salman

But why on earth would she even be in £20K debt lmao it's Bianca, that wouldn't be very realistic would it.
She didn't ask Max because as she said he's got a lot on his plate with Tanya. And she didn't ask Derek because he'll just worm his way into the family and she'd rather go penniless than have someone as troublesome & manipulating as Derek in near her kids, which is understandable. So she went to Janine because she presumed it'd not be much of a problem and she wouldn't make a fuss as £1000 is nothing for Janine what with the fact that she's loaded.
Anyway I thought it was an amazing episode and from what I've read on Twitter a lot of people were emotional (lol) so the writers were successful in making a good episode. Of course some people will pick out tiny flaws but that doesn't matter when I'm sure the majority of viewers were pleased with it.

I believe it's called having an opinion. Having an opinion on a piece of art means expressing what you think about it, be it positive, negative or somewhere in the middle, unless you're saying that I should switch off because I don't agree with you.
I do wish people would stop this whole 'if you don't like it, don't watch it' nonsense. I'm actually a genuine fan of EastEnders, just not happy with its current state. Why should I switch off for registering an opinion you just happen to disagree with?

Right, so you're saying that I'm not allowed to form an opinion on here unless it is positive? Is that what you're saying? Shows do have highs and lows, but I believe EastEnders is at an all-time low, and I will continue to give my opinions on it whilst, in my opinion, it continues to go through its bad patch. I wasn't suggesting she literally be in 20 grand of debt. I'm saying the episode was bad because she acted as though she was, as though she was in so much debt that they'd be homeless and never have anything to live for. Then it turns out it's just a grand, after she bought a new TV a couple of weeks ago. Stupid writing.
Acting is pretty solid, they don't have a bad cast for the most part but the plots are either bland or stupid.

EastEnders is trying to explore the teens in detail, although this is still Kirkwood's era and he worked at Hollyoaks but I liked the episode, shame that some people slag off Hollyoaks and don't even watch it because when the show does a big storyline e.g. Silas it is at it's best;).

Lorraine died out of the square so it's not her death. I think the death might be announced soon, it's not due to air until late June anyway.

He's obviously spamming to piss off people, I reckon. Nobody's so poor at grammar. Nobody, and that's a fact. If he can write poems, he can write in decent, proper English. I'm not asking for extremely advanced levels or immaculate, perfectly typed sentences - just posts that I can actually make any sense of. I don't see the point in making the effort to post a countless amount of poems if they're all semi-literate.
Anyway, Monday's episode wasn't too bad, either, although it did have that 'been there, done that' (deja vu) feel to it. I can see Ian gradually losing it, which ties in with his upcoming storyline. By this, I mean his mental breakdown.

But this entire story has been so inconsistent. Lucy keeps switching every episode between feeling sorry for Mandy and getting along, and being a bitch and wanting to split them up. It changes like the wind.
Also, Ian and Mandy. I may have missed a few episodes here and there but they're flipping between Ian not wanting to trust her, her not wanting to get married, to him being desperate, her being besotted. My head's spinning. lol

I have to admit that was a very good episode, but even that won't even come close to redeeming how poor this Heather storyline's been overall. Anyway, the Ian scenes were really powerful and effective and it goes to show how bad mental illnesses can be. I know someone who's currently going through this sort of thing (a mental breakdown) and it really is very sad, so hopefully they won't take the mick out of this storyline, like Zak Dingle and Emmerdale, which was pretty laughable and ridiculous.

Ian, Dot, Carol, Bianca & the kids gone but will be back later in the year
Also off for an extended break soon are Janine & Tanya
Leaving for good Mandy, Rose, Andrew, Antony, Afia & Ben

I know. That's really going to leave a mark on EastEnders and it isn't fair on Lorraine Newman. The only way things can even come close to being fixed is if they introduce new characters, but they should be gradually introduced, not just all at once. Kate Harwood made that mistake in 2006. 2005 had relied completely on Den's murder storyline and although it was a terrific year, it was in a very unhealthy state to rely on one storyline and a particular group of characters, no matter how legendary and iconic. So when they all left towards the end of 2005/beginning of 2006 Kate Harwood had to introduce an influx of characters and it took ages to warm to them. 2006 wasn't too bad a year, but it would have been a lot better if we had time to warm to the characters, rather than them just coming in one go.

Tuesday's episode wasn't bad at all, to be fair. Nothing spectacular but watchable. I liked Alice coming in but I don't see this hype surrounding her 'looks'. She's all right, like, but she looks too 'innocent' and 'sweet' for my liking. She looks like one of those 'girls are nice like sugar, everything sweet...' (excuse the wrong wording - it's been a long time) girls.
Derek, who I usually loathe, actually put in a half-decent performance and it was genuinely shocking seeing him threaten Tanya like that.
The only thing I didn't like in that episode was all that Heather stuff - it doesn't have enough characters (certainly decent ones) involved and I'm finding it really difficult to keep interested in the plot.
6/10.

Andrew is staying in the show until around next March/April at least. He's not leaving.
And Janine, Bianca and Carol will be back before Tanya goes on a break so they won't all be gone at the same time. Kat returns in a week or two aswell.

As peng as the new Lucy is, I still preferred the old Lucy (I reckon she was fitter and could actually act, which is the most important) and I can't believe they sacked her for 'underage drinking'. She was 17 - that's what people her age do, and it's not as if the show at the time wasn't already putting itself to shame, with such intriguing and eye-gluing plots as Billy stealing post and Danny conning Roxy out of all her money...yeah, that was soap at its finest and it couldn't do with a bad reputation, that it hadn't already acquired. I hope for the sake of you lot you know I'm being sarcastic.

I am finally liking this new Lucy Beale!
I think that the show needs some more new families, it would be good and stop the focus being on a certain Branning family.
New characters are needed and especially with those people going on breaks, although the characters would have to be well written and given a chance by the viewers.

Poor Jean. Michael is so bad but he is a good character and Janine is vile.
Denise and Kim made me laugh, ditto Zainab and Masood, plus Fatboy and co having some light hearted fun.
Derek had some decent scenes tonight. I understand how Afia feels that Zainab is so domineering and that she has no control over her life or she can't do anything with Tamwar.
Marsh.
06-06-2012, 08:17 PM
Afia is a bitch. I'd have thrown her out when she was banging on about how many numbers she's got. After all the Masood's have done for her considering what her father did, I'd send her on her merry way.
Anyway, this Jean/Michael stuff is stupid. Michael did the same mind games with Ronnie last year with putting the baby in the park etc and now we're supposed to expect everyone to fall for it all again? Bull. Roxy really is a dimwit.
Having just read this story on DS I don't think I'll be bothering with this programme much longer.
Kat's having an affair. I know... how original.
EastEnders bosses have announced details of a major summer storyline which will see Kat Moon embark on an affair with a mystery lover.
Viewers will see Kat return to Walford later this week, but her problems with husband Alfie are far from over as she starts to fear that the spark in their marriage has fizzled out.
Kat (Jessie Wallace) tries her best to get things back on track with Alfie (Shane Richie), but he fails to realise that she wants the passion back in their relationship.
As Kat isn't getting the attention that she craves at home, she later finds it impossible to resist when someone else starts showering her with affection.
The Queen Vic's landlady is plagued with guilt once she starts cheating on Alfie again, knowing that she is making a huge mistake. However, Kat's attempts to call off her affair prove futile as she cannot resist her new boyfriend.
EastEnders chiefs have confirmed that this will be a long-running storyline, leaving viewers guessing over who the mystery man is for quite some time.
At least five names are in the frame, including Ray Dixon, Michael Moon and Branning brothers Derek, Jack and Max.
Even the BBC show's cast and crew will be left in the dark over the storyline, as all scenes featuring Kat and her lover will be filmed with an extra to prevent leaks.
EastEnders' executive producer Lorraine Newman commented: "The consequences are not only great for Kat and Alfie, but also for each individual suspect. The audience will join the cast and crew guessing across the summer and autumn as we eliminate the suspects one at a time, leading to one almighty explosion."
EastEnders fans will see the storyline begin on screen later this month.

Not really. Bryan Kirkwood's name is still on the credits. I don't think Lorraine's work starts properly until August. But it said it was over the summer, so surely she had some input into the storyline. Seriously, if this woman turns out to be another Bryan Kirkwood, I'll simply stop watching. Anyway, moving on...found myself sat thinking again how great an actress Gillian Wright (Jean Slater) is. My husband suffers from Bipolar Disorder and I do think she's right on with her portrayal of it. All round, I really like her.

That line to Michael was really cringy, just got she puts on a bit more slap and does her hair doesn't make her Kat Slater again. That once great character died many years ago and will never return.
And I'm not too sure the bipolar stuff, with Jean you'd think she has something else rather than that, the mental illness just seems to come along to suit certain storylines these days. And the way the rest of the characters treat her is infuriating. So patronising and talking to her like a baby, Jean's no angels herself and can be pretty calculating at times.

The thing with Jean is by nature she's quite stupid and extremely kind-hearted, so people think they can take advantage of her. None of that's related to Bipolar Disorder, as it doesn't affect your intelligence. Jean's a very bad example for someone with Bipolar Disorder, because a lot of people won't be able to distinguish her condition from her already being a bit ditzy and airheaded. She never used to be like that, did she, though? But since late 2010 she's become a total ****** and Bipolar people are nothing like that.
Stacey was a good example.
