Antony Cotton will extend his stay on Coronation Street after signing a new two-year contract with ITV.

Cotton, who plays gay barman Sean Tully, has reportedly agreed a £120,000-a-year deal that will also allow him to develop his own projects at ITV.

"I look forward to some exciting new storylines in the Street and developing future programme ideas with ITV," Cotton told The Sun.

An ITV source added that Cotton may host his own gameshow.

"He's done well with his talkshow. Now we want him to try his hand at something different. A new gameshow is a big possibility."

So another 2 years of him on the street and off the street for ITV. I don't like him anymore, I don't think there is any story lines left for him maybe he should of left instead.

Well, I can confirm that this is a load of old tosh.

Instead, Corrie bosses have decided to use the replica Rovers Return Inn that's still on the Granada Studio's campus - the one which used to feature in the set tours - as another pub backdrop.

Rob James-Collier has admitted he is "glad" to be leaving Coronation Street, saying he wants to ditch his sex symbol image.

The 31-year-old, who plays Liam Connor on the ITV soap, told New! magazine that winning the sexiest male prize at the British Soap Awards for two consecutive years influenced his decision to quit Weatherfield.

"In a way this is why I am glad to be leaving the show," he said. "You can work your nuts off acting-wise, but as soon as you appear on screen in a towel, bingo, you're the sexiest male."

The actor added that he will be careful when it comes to choosing his next job and won't fall into the soap star trap of doing pantomime.

He said: "I won't be doing panto. I want to be taken seriously as an actor and that means landing the right part."

I will miss him when he leave, he has been great in Corrie but I think its the right time for him to go.

I was hoping that the rumours about Steve and Becky having a "fling" in Coronation Street weren't true. I love Steve, and liked the way he was settling down to be a good family man with Michelle, her various sons and Amy.

But Kym Ryder confirms in this week's Inside Soap that Steve is indeed going to be tempted by the charms of the queen of the full English breakfast. "Steve's quite an insecure person, so he goes off and makes mistakes," is Kym's assessment of the situation. "Steve's going to have a fling with Becky Grainger. When Michelle finds out, I'm sure all hell will break loose. You never know, viewers might see her evil streak - she is a Connor, after all!"

Kym also mentions that she used to have a bit of a crush on Simon Gregson, who plays Steve. "I used to fancy Simon when Steve came on to the Street all those years ago. I thought he was quite cute."

Meanwhile, in Soaplife magazine, Ryan Thomas has been explaining that Jason sees Becky as being "like one of the lads," and that his heart is elsewhere. "Have you noticed he hasn't taken his wedding ring off yet?" he says. "I think you can read heaps into that. The sad truth is that if Sarah came back he wouldn't look twice at Becky."

The broke butcher and wife Claire swap houses with the Websters, who live in the Ogdens’ old home.

But Ashley discovers a painting in the attic of No 13.

It has the name Ogden on the back and could be the work of famous Salford artist L.S. Lowry.

Ashley and Claire – Steven Arnold, 33, and Julia Haworth, 28 – think they could get £500,000 for it.

A Coronation Street fan has revealed that he couldn't watch the soap for ten years after breaking his neck during a commercial break.

Richard Collier rushed upstairs to the toilet so that he wouldn't miss the show when he slipped and fractured his neck in three places.

The 53-year-old from Chorlton then avoided the show for a decade fearing it would bring back memories of his near-fatal accident.

Collier watched the soap for the first time since his neck injury this week but admitted that the show had changed a lot it ten years.

He told the South Manchester Reporter: "It used to be my favourite soap. I had a few pangs of panic when the music came on. It was a bit strange though because I didn’t recognise most of the people on there - Vera's gone, Curly’s gone - I didn't really know what was going on."

At the time of Collier's fall, Corrie's main storyline involved the death of Gary and Judy Mallet's adopted child from meningitis.

Coronation Street's Rita Sullivan is apparently set to sell her corner shop.

The newsagent - played by Barbara Knox, 74 - has run The Kabin for years and it's become a cornerstone of the soap, the perfect place for characters to meet and gossip.

But according to the Daily Star, Rita decides she's ready to retire and puts the shop up for sale.

Property developer Tony Gordon (Gray O'Brien) is delighted as he plans to buy it and turn it into an extension of lingerie factory Underworld.

He and his partner, Underworld boss Carla Connor (Alison King) try to make Rita an offer she can't refuse for the shop, plus a new luxury flat.

As part of their development plans they also offer garage-owner Kevin Webster (Michael L Vell) an offer for his business, which apparently includes a 10,000 pound "sweetener".

Tony's so confident both the deals will go through he reportedly tells Carla: "Everyone has their price."

But Norris, who works with Rita, is devastated as he hoped he'd take over The Kabin. The street busy-body - played by Malcolm Hebden - tells everyone Rita has "sold her morals" for a fat cheque.

But Corrie fans needn't worry - according to the Star, Rita, who has been in the soap since 1964, isn't leaving the street.

In an amazing move, ITV bosses have sanctioned the use of the Emmerdale local as the set for Nelson’s Bar, which Corrie landlady Liz McDonald buys to compete against her old pub, the Rovers Return.

In episodes to be screened in July, a mock-up of The Woolpack, based at Corrie’s Manchester studios, will double as Nelson’s. The bar will feature heavily when Liz and husband Vernon become fed up with their jobs at the Rovers and decide to buy a rival watering hole.

“The reason we’re using the Woolpack set is mainly to do with ease of filming,” a Street spokesman told the Daily Star. “It’s also more cost effective to use the set than it would be to go on location and take over a local pub in Manchester for the day.” Oh, and that creaking sound you can hear is Annie Walker turning in her grave.

Actress Jane Danson's hubby has joined the cast of Corrie.

Actor Robert Beck will join Jane, who plays Leanne Battersby, on screen next month.

He'll play tough nut Jimmy - an old friend of Tony Gordon.

A Corrie spokesperson told itv.com: “Rob is joining as a business associate of Tony’s – they go way back and it soon becomes clear that Tony relies on Jimmy to help him sort situations for him so Tony doesn’t have to get his own hands dirty.

“As Tony continues his one man bid to take over Weatherfield Jimmy will be the person he calls upon to do his dirty work.”

Heartbroken Michelle Connor (Kym Ryder) rages at her cheating fiancé after discovering he had a drunken one-night stand with the Street’s resident bike Becky.

The firey barmaid suspected her man had been unfaithful, but blamed it on Leanne.

When she finds out the truth, she angrily confronts Steve and chucks her engagement ring in a skip, shouting 'It's finished'.

Cowardly Steve pleads his innocence claiming he was so drunk he can’t remember anything, and is forced to jump into the skip to retrieve the ring.

The incident is the latest in a string of bad events for old McDonald who spends a night behind bars for fighting with Dan this month.
