Maria (Samia Smith) is in a daze – unable to comprehend how such a terrible thing could happen to her husband and the father of her unborn child. Tony (Gray O'Brien) and Carla (Alison King) call round to see her but Carla is finding the whole situation too much to handle. Meanwhile a calm and collected Tony is doing a good job of keeping his involvement in Liam’s death a secret from everyone.
Sally (Sally Whittaker) is back from Holyhead and is shocked to find out about the postcard threatening Sophie (Brooke Vincent). She asks Chesney (Sam Aston) to watch out for Sophie at school and John (Graeme Hawley) offers to collect them both to make sure they get back safely. But when Chesney has left John tells Sophie that he knows she sent the postcard. Will Sophie confess to her mum and dad?
Meanwhile in an attic somewhere away from the Street sits a hungry and lonely Rosie (Helen Flanagan), disheveled and grubby, her hair a mess and her face free of make-up. But who was responsible for locking her in there?
Leanne (Jane Danson) is shocked to find Kelly (Tupele Dorgu) at Dan’s flat when she goes to collect her things – but she’s even more surprised to discover Dan (Matthew Crompton) has sent it all to Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) for the charity shop.
This episode is written by David Lane, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Tony Prescott.

PI for the rest of the week follows:
Monday 20 October 8.30pm
A ravenous Rosie (Helen Flanagan) devours the food that he captor has brought her and demands to know when she is going to be released. A clearly troubled and guilt ridden John Stape (Graeme Hawley) tells her that he can’t release her – he snatched her off the street in a moment of anger and madness and now he doesn’t know what to do. He tells her about Sophie (Brooke Vincent) sending the postcard and Rosie is furious that her sister is hampering attempts to find her.
Back at the Webster’s, Sophie overhears her mum and dad talking and realizes how much worse she has made things. She confesses to them about the postcard and they call the police so she can explain what she did – they are relieved that she is not in danger but angry that she added to their concern over Rosie.
Helen (Sorcha Cusack) and Barry Connor (Frank Grimes) arrive from Ireland and go straight to see Maria (Samia Smith). They all start to make plans for the funeral but it is clear that everyone is still struggling to come to terms with Liam’s death.
Meanwhile Carla (Alison King) talks to Leanne (Jane Danson) about Liam. Leanne thinks she should tell Tony the truth so she can grieve properly but Carla tells Leanne she loves Tony (Gray O'Brien) just not in the same way that she loved Liam. Carla asks Leanne to go with her to the spot where Liam dies and Carla breaks down unaware that they have been followed and are being watched by an increasingly jealous and angry Tony.
This episode is written by Mark Wadlow, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Tony Prescott.

Wednesday 22 October 7.30pm
Rosie (Helen Flanagan) has convinced herself that John (Graeme Hawley) will release her today and she is furious when he arrives in the attic with food and magazines, clearly not intending to set her free any time soon. She hurls abuse and books at him as she tries to explain that he hasn’t had time to talk to Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) because she is caught up with looking after Maria. Rosie takes in the shocking news of Liam’s death – her own predicament momentarily forgotten.
Maria’s (Samia Smith) parents have arrived from Cyprus but she can’t stop herself from having a go at them for not even coming to her wedding. The Connors discover that Liam’s body is being released on Friday so the funeral can be arranged. Meanwhile Tony (Gray O'Brien) is getting increasingly irritated by Carla’s grief and is finding it hard not to show his anger. He manages to cover up his true feelings however and is the picture of compassion as he helps with the funeral arrangements.
Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) arranges a date with Tara (Ayesha Dharker) but when Nina (Harvey Virdi) finds out about it she storms round to the shop and demands he cancel. Faced with no option he reluctantly calls Tara and tells her the evening is off. Amber (Nikki Patel) meanwhile is making progress with her relationship with Darryl (Johnny Dixon).
Pam (Kate Anthony) shares out the pot from the sale of the latest dodgy batch of merchandise and Tyrone (Alan Halsall) is delighted to discover he has enough to put a deposit down on a wedding dress for Molly (Vicky Binns).
Elsewhere Blanche (Maggie Jones) persuades Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) to accompany her on the free holiday to France and Fiz books a surprise holiday for herself and John.
This episode is written by Carmel Morgan, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by tony Prescott.

Friday 24 October 7.30pm
John (Graeme Hawley) is subdued as Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) talks excitedly about the holiday she has booked for them. She is getting irritated by his lack of interest and comments that his gran’s cat gets more attention than she does. John heads off to his gran’s to ‘feed the cat’ again and Rosie (Helen Flanagan) tries once more to persuade him to let her go. He tells Rosie that he is going away on holiday so won’t be round for a few days. Terrified at being left completely alone Rosie makes a mad dash for freedom – will she escape?
Carla (Alison King) still doesn’t want to go to work. Tony (Gray O'Brien) broaches the subject of the wedding and Carla tells him to just make the arrangements himself; he is irritated at having to run both businesses but Carla is oblivious to his anger. Liam’s parents arrange to go and see his body but Maria can’t bring herself to go with them. Carla asks if she can join then but Helen Connor (Sorcha Cusack) is having none of it.
Blanche (Maggie Jones) takes Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) along to the committee meeting to talk about the holiday to France. Deirdre is surprised to discover that the committee consists of just one person and she’s even more surprised to discover that she seems to have been signed up to be a carer on the trip. Has Blanche managed to get one over on Deirdre yet again?
Elsewhere Molly (Vicky Binns) is surprised to get a call asking her to go for a wedding dress fitting.
This episode is written by Joe Turner, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Tony Prescott.

Friday 24 October 8.30pm
A frantic John (Graeme Hawley) is searching the house trying to find Rosie (Helen Flanagan) who has hidden herself behind a door. She knows she has to try and escape and makes a run for the front door but John is too quick and catches her, dragging her back upstairs to the attic room. He takes her purse and leaves her sobbing locked in the room. Before heading back home to Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) he goes to a dingy pub and hides her purse down the side of a seat for someone to find.
An emotionally overwrought Carla (Alison King) leaves the Rovers after her dressing down from Helen Connor (Sorcha Cusack). She can’t face answering Tony’s calls and he is furious when she turns up late for the appointment with the vicar. But Carla has finally had enough and tells a shocked Tony (Gray O'Brien) that the wedding is off.
Molly (Vicky Binns) confronts Tyrone (Alan Halsall) about the wedding dress that she didn’t order. He confesses that he did order it so she says she is going to take it back. Molly is concerned that Tyrone is letting Pam (Kate Anthony) boss him around but he insists that he isn’t and asks her not to cancel the dress.
Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) tells Tara (Ayesha Dharker) he has booked to take them out for a meal but she suggests they get a takeaway instead. Meanwhile Amber (Nikki Patel) has invited Darryl (Johnny Dixon) round thinking her dad will be out for the evening. How will he react when he finds out what is going on?
Elsewhere Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) is furious with Blanche as her duties for the trip to France are explained and Ken (William Roache) gets a call from Peter to say that Lucy has died.
This episode is written by Julie Jones, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Tony Prescott.

Fans of Coronation Street will be able to watch two alternative versions of how love rat Liam Connor is killed via ITV.com.
Liam, played by Rob James-Collier, will be bumped off by Tony Gordon (Gray O'Brien), after he discovers that Liam has been cheating with his fiancee, Carla (Alison King).
Three death scenes have been filmed and the two alternative endings will be posted online on October 17 after the episode is shown on ITV1, according to reports in Broadcast magazine.
Behind-the-scenes footage of the alternative murder plots will also be available on the site.
In the week that Liam is killed, all five episodes of the soap will be based around one 24-hour period - a first for the drama.
ITV is committed to offering multi-platform content, and an ITV spokeswoman said that the additional sequences would enable fans to "delve deeper into the world of Coronation Street".
She said: "Everyone knows who will murder Liam, but we wanted to draw the mystery out of how he did it.
"Each of the endings is plausible, with the same repercussions for Carla, Liam's wife Maria and Tony."

I wonder which one will be real?
I still think its the paintall one
News story
t looks like Coronation Street's Sophie Webster is set to step out of her sister Rosie's shadow.
Brooke Vincent, who plays 14-year-old Sophie, said her character has recently been frustrated by all the attention Rosie gets - but that is set to change.
Brooke said: "Rosie and Sophie have always had that thing about attention between them. Rosie's always getting the attention and Sophie's always in the background.
"But in the next 12 months Sophie's not going to stand for it no more. And there are going to be bombs going off!"
And although she refused to reveal any specifics, it seems Sophie will not be going the same wild way as her sister.
"I think Sophie's going to go another way - she's going to the extreme max but in another direction," Brooke teased. "I don't think she's going to be like Rosie - I don't think she could be like Rosie. She's a very down-to-earth girl."
However Brooke said her relationship with Helen Flanagan, who plays Rosie, is a lot better than that of the on-screen sisters.
"Me and Helen, we are quite close. We've worked together now for five years so we are very close as sisters really," she said.
She added: "She's more glam and glitz than me though - she's always immaculate. Her hair's always perfect. But we have a laugh and we get on and it's nice to be in that environment to work in."

Fasten your seatbelts and assume the crash position ready for next week's Coronation Street, because according to assistant producer Gavin Blyth, it''s going to be a memorable one.
"It's never easy losing a character who's known and loved, so obviously sending away a character like Liam you've got to do justice to that," he tells ITV.com. "We wanted it to be big, we wanted it to be dramatic, and that's exactly what it's going to be. It's one week covering 24 hours, and it's probably one of the most exciting weeks that Corrie will see in very recent history."
"We cover the stag night, we cover the hen night, and everything shall meet in the middle, with Liam's exit."
The action all revolves around Tony Gordon, as Gavin explains: "Obviously Tony is now a man possessed. He's got Liam in his sights and he isn't about to let that go. But this isn't just about Liam and Tony. There's Maria with the man she dearly loves. There's Carla with the man she dearly wants - but who does she really want, Tony or Liam? She's torn every which-way. So we've got Carla's hen night, we've got Tony's stag night, we've got Maria there in the middle, blissfully unaware of what's going on, and she's got her own big story that breaks that week. She's about to become as much a victim as Liam is in this."
Despite our best efforts, we haven't been able to discover exactly how Liam will die. Gavin says, "It's always more rewarding for the viewers if there's something there that they don't know, and they don't know how Liam'll go, where he'll go, what will happen. So we have scripted three different endings, we have filmed three different endings, so when Liam will die in that week is anyone's guess. We're on the Street where Tony owns flats and apartments - and it's a long way down. They're out wandering the Manchester city streets - anything could happen there. And they go paintballing. Guns - who knows, that could be the way he goes." Whichever ending is chosen, he says it will be up there with the most memorable Corrie deaths.

In Friday’s episode of Corrie hunky Liam (Rob James-Collier) seduces his sister-in-law Carla (Alison King) when he catches her in the gown she’s about to tie the knot to factory boss Tony (Gray O’Brien) in.
The lovers soon get heated in a steamy embrace – and are nearly caught in a compromising position by Tony when he suddenly shows up.
And things will take a more sinister twist when Tony gets his hands on Liam – and Carla will have to say goodbye to her hunk for good...

CORRIE’S resident bad boy David Platt looks like he’s back to his old tricks as he does a runner from the home of the new family on the Street.

The cheeky lad – played by Jack P Shepherd – takes revenge on newcomers the Windasses when the family refuse to pay him and his girlfriend Tina’s (Michelle Keegan) dad for a kitchen they’ve fitted in their new house.
But when an angry David decides to take the cash himself he is caught by the youngest of the bunch, Carl (Mikey North) – who chases him down the street.
The Windasses are due to appear in the ITV1 soap at the end of the year and are thought to become arch-enemies of the Platts.
Let battle commence!

CONTROVERSIAL Coronation Street star Gray O'Brien says he is "surprised" by the reaction of fans over his character's anti-Rangers jibes.
The actor was at the centre of an Old Firm storm after fuming Gers fans called ITV to complain about his character Tony Gordon slagging off the Ibrox club.
Corrie bosses took the unprecented step of re-editing this Wednesday's episode.
They scrapped a line in which the Celtic-supporting character took another dig at Rangers.
Celtic fan O'Brien, 40, from Ayrshire, insisted it wasn't his idea for his character to run down Rangers.
He said: "We've all been brought up with the Celtic-Rangers thing in the west of Scotland.
"But, in a way, I was surprised at the reaction. No one realised it would have been such a talking point.
"I'm a Celtic supporter but I need to be clear that I certainly wasn't going out of my way to antagonise any Rangers supporters.
"It was a scripted line and I had no idea it was going to cause what it's caused."

Boyzone's Keith Duffy, who played barman Ciaran McCarthy, hasn't ruled out returning to the cobbles of Coronation Street.
The singer/ actor who's made a musical comeback with the rest of Boyzone, said Ciaran's character wasn't killed off which leaves the door open to return.
Speaking in an itv.com interview, he said: "They left it open for maybe one day going back. I'm still quite close to the producers in Corrie."

CORRIE’S resident bad boy David Platt plummets into a downward spiral when he takes his girlfriend for a spin in a stolen sports car.
The troublesome teen – played by Jack P Shepherd – gets Tina (Michelle Keegan) to take a ride in the swanky Audi TT with him.
But the car has been nicked by their companion Graeme (Craig Gazey), who David was banged up with in the Young Offenders Institution.
When it suddenly runs out of fuel Tina and David head off – leaving Graeme to torch the car.
But luckily for him it’s stolen again.
The scenes are currently being filmed for the ITV soap and will be shown later this year.

SO, farewell Liam.
We watched your dramatic demise on a big cinema screen in London this afternoon.
And then we spoke to the man who killed you.
Or rather…actor Gray O’Brien.
The press launch for Coronation Street’s Murder Week threw up several points of interest.
There’ll be more in the MEN tomorrow and next week – plus, of course, online.
Those nice people from the Corrie press office showed us a compilation of scenes from next Monday and Wednesday’s episodes.
Followed by the full double bill to be screened on Friday October 17.
As you’ll know, three alternative endings for Liam (Rob James-Collier) have been filmed.
All of which leave blood on love rival Tony Gordon’s hands.
Those attending today were sworn to secrecy about which ending will actually be used.
But I can say that Liam’s murder is classic Corrie and not exactly what I expected.
It’s also just the start of a much bigger storyline.
Gray, who plays Tony, was dashing back to Manchester tonight to film scenes linked to his character’s wedding to Carla.
And he will continue in the role until next year, when we find out whether or not Tony gets away with murder.
Other points of interest include the fact that Jed Stone is to become a real thorn in Tony’s side.
Veteran actor Kenneth Cope made a brief return as Jed earlier this year – 42 years after he last played him on the cobbles.
His latest appearance will see him back on the Street itself, alongside characters like Emily Bishop who knew Jed in the 1960s when he was Minnie Caldwell's lodger Sunny Jim.
Will Tony come to regret terrorising Jed?
I also spoke to producer Kim Crowther about her aims and plans for Corrie.
She told me that some axed characters could be set for a comeback next year.
More tomorrow

I reckon it will be Sarah who retunrs, we've seen the beginnings of them re-introducing her to us already and I reckon if she wasn't pregnant she'd be back by now!
I have a feeling that perhaps it won't be any of those three endings, the reporter from the Manchester Post did say that "it was exactly what [he] expected".
Scarlett.
09-10-2008, 10:48 PM
Aye, it seems kinda weird that they'd release all the pics for the murder
I mean, I remember when Emmerdale did the kidnap, everyone thougt Sadie died in that episode, she was shot, but it turned out to be a set up
I hope they do something similar here

NEWCOMER Poppy Jhakra is joining Corrie as a tearaway in a bid by bosses to make the soap reflect Manchester’s ethnic mix.
The actress, 23, will play Minnie, a kebab shop worker who quickly reveals a temper by covering a punter in chilli sauce.
She is the fourth Asian character introduced after a race equality report slammed the ITV1 show for “stereotyping” and “tokenism”.

Next week sees the much-anticipated murder of Coronation Street's Liam Connor (Rob-James Collier), when Weatherfield's evil entrepreneur Tony Gordon (Gray O'Brien) exacts his ultimate revenge. Three endings for Liam's demise have been filmed and his final episodes will transmit in a 24-style arc of episodes which span the final 24 hours of his life. Here, Digital Spy chats with Gray O'Brien about the week of episodes, his ideal ending and which he hopes the producers will choose.
You initially started out life on Corrie as a relatively minor character, and now you've become Mr Evil of Weatherfield. You must be quite proud.
"To be honest, I knew that the character was always heading in this direction. The great thing with Coronation Street is that rather than bring a character in big and bouncy from the start, they bring them in bubbling. When characters bubble along, you know they're going to rise through the ranks. It's taken six months and now we're right in the middle of it. It's gone off in a slightly different direction than I expected it to. When people suggest that they want to move on, it changes where the writers have to take a character. That's why it's such an organic process because they don't set anything in stone. It's great from our point of view because you open scripts and you think 'ooh, that's interesting' and it builds from there. It's a wonderful exit for Rob [James-Collier] and it's great to be involved in it."
It appears Tony doesn't have any boundaries at all when it comes to getting what he wants…
"He does have boundaries - and the boundaries are that he won't be told 'no'. Anything up to that point is good enough. I don't think he's a murderous person. Tony killing Liam is just circumstances. He's come from nothing and has worked his way up. He's a respected businessman and he thinks it's all about fairness - you play with the sword, you die by the sword. He truly believes that everyone has a price. Up until this point, that's his game. His ambition is that he wants to retire in his mid 40s with several million in the bank. But now, something's come up to stop all that - Liam."
What happens on Tony's stag night?
"In a nutshell, I go for a drink and I kill Liam! There's actually nine of us on the stag do and everyone's wearing a Tony Gordon mask – and that was quite spooky. All five episodes span an entire day. The first morning we were filming, we were in Roy's Rolls for breakfast, we then go off paintballing, then to a city centre bar, then to a curry house and finally to a lap dancing bar. It's been organised by Liam and Tony's a bit embarrassed by it really, but he gets into the spirit of it and enjoys it."
What was it like filming the three endings?
"We've filmed three completely different endings for Liam's death but obviously they have the same outcome! We did spend time filming all three so that producers can have the final decision as to which ending they want to go with. It has no gravitas with the aftermath - you've got to deal with a death and a burial."
What happens in each of the three endings?
"The first was shot at the paintballing. Tony hits Liam with the paintball gun and tell him that the game's over. We have a bit of a chat and I pull out a real gun from my waistband and erase him that way. The second is after the stag do when everyone goes back to Tony's apartment. Liam and Tony are eventually left on their own when everyone disappears. We're on the balcony talking about the flats and Tony leans over the edge, drops a bottle, warns Liam to be careful and I throw him over and claim it was a drunken accident. The final ending is a hit and run that Tony's set up."
Do you know which ending they're going to choose?
"They have all three endings on tape upstairs, but I don't know if they've made a decision yet."
Which do you hope they'll choose?
"I like the paintballing one. I just like the idea of Tony having a gun."
If the writers came to you for an idea, how would you have killed Liam off?
"I'd have liked to have tied him to a lead table and put a laser between his legs and when Liam says 'do you expect me to talk', Tony would say 'no, Mr Connor, I expect you to die'. I'd have honestly gone for the laser, but they told me it was a little far-fetched."
Next week is 'Murder Week' on Corrie and the producers have even kept us journalists hanging in there until the last minute on this one! However, yesterday, I attended the screening of Liam's death episodes. Alison King and Gray O'Brien just steal the show.
The week was billed by Corrie producer Kim Crowther as a "pivotal week" with the climax to the storylines "taking viewers well into 2009", with the big question on everyone's lips: Will Tony Gordon get away with murder?
The episodes also include one horny Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox) and a couple of touching back-to-back scenes involving a dialogue about a cigarette. I'll say no more for now because it'll spoil it all.
I also had an in-depth chat to Kim Crowther about her role at Corrie, more of which will come later on today/tomorrow. For now, I'll leave you with a few tidbits: Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) has a love interest around Christmas; he also has his Christmas dinner cooked by Wiki Dankowska (Wanda Opalinska), who I'm told may get a storyline of her own; and some already-departed characters may make a return next year. Check back soon for more from Kim.
In other news, I'm now the proud owner of a Tony Gordon mask, but check back next week for your chance to win one of SIX exclusive masks signed by the man himself. Finally, all credit must go to Ali and Dave at Corrie for designing the 24-style promo shot (above right). Superb job.
For now, meanwhile, I caught up with Gray O'Brien last week - or 'The Villainous Gray' as he likes to be called - during a break in filming to chat about his storyline, filming three endings and how he thinks his character has developed. If you haven't read the original interview, click here. If you have, read on for some bonus material including how he'd like to have his Blofeld-esque cat back on the scene!
Where did the Blofeld-esque cat go?
"I was really disappointed that they took it off me! I'm actually not very good with cats, so it was quite a big thing for me to be holding it. It purred louder than anything I'd ever heard - it was like a lion! I had to throw the cat to the ground and we got quite a few complaints about me throwing it in an unsympathetic way, never mind the fact that I tried to kill Jed Stone."
You must be sad to see Rob James-Collier leaving…
"We became really good pals over the last couple of months because we were working so hard together. We were here there and everywhere, with various different location shoots. Rob had his own reasons for wanting to move on to try different things and I wish him all the very best. He's a lovely guy and I think he's a great actor. He'll be really missed by everyone at Corrie and by the audience. It's a brave thing to do."
Does Tony truly love Carla even though he kills Liam to be with her or has her infidelity shattered his dedication to her?
"Absolutely. He's besotted by her. There's no question there. It's one thing that's a constant in his life - Carla. Even if his love isn't 100% reciprocated, it doesn't matter. He'd rather have a half-hearted love from her than none at all."
What's been your personal Corrie highlight so far?
"I don't know if this is a highlight, or just a fear. I think I'd been here six months and I walked into the Kabin to do my first scene with Barbara Knox, who plays Rita. I just froze. Not that I'm frightened of her or anything [laughs], she's an icon to me. That's the first time in many years that it's ever happened."
I read in a recent article that producers have big plans for Tony Gordon…
"They've got some great ideas that we've talked about. It's really exciting to be part of this massive show and to be such an integral part of it. I really don't know what the plans are, though. I'm certainly looking forward to it. I'll be here for a bit longer. Obviously there's going to be an ending for Tony at some point, though."
Every baddie has a half life in soap…
"Exactly. That time will come. I kind of know when that will come because there's a contract there and a date on it! It'll be interesting to see what plays out in the next year or so."
Scarlett.

It’s the day of Liam’s funeral and Maria (Samia Smith) is not sure how she will get through the day. She decides to take Ozzy to the funeral to help her cope. Carla (Alison King) meanwhile doesn’t think she can attend the service at all but realizes it won’t look good if she does. She tells Tony (Gray O'Brien) that she hasn’t cancelled the wedding merely postponed it. But once she arrives at the funeral and the hymns start she breaks down and has to leave the church. Will she and Maria ever get over Liam’s death?
Dev (Jimi Harkishin) phones Tara (Ayesha Dharker) to apologise for his attitude towards Amber (Nikki Patel) the previous evening and try and get things back on track but Nina (Harvey Virdi) arrives at the shop and threatens to tell Prem (Madhav Sharma) about their affair if he doesn’t end his relationship with her daughter. Dev decides that he can’t take that risk and confesses to Prem before Nina gets chance to tell all. How will Prem react?
Becky (Katherine Kelly) goes to the police station to answer to her bail. She is cocky with DC Hooch (Dominic Carter) when she realizes that he is unable to charge her and she is a free woman. She swans off leaving him simmering with rage and vowing revenge.
Blanche (Maggie Jones) is looking forward to her French trip which is more than can be said for Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride). Meanwhile Ken (William Roache) is worried about Peter and jumps every time the phone rings.
Elsewhere Sally (Sally Whittaker) has to miss the funeral because the police have some new information about Rosie (Helen Flanagan).
This episode is written by Martin Allen, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Pip Short.
****
PI for the rest of the week follows:
Monday 27 October 8.30pm
Carla’s (Alison King) exit from the church does not go unnoticed by the other mourners and Tony (Gray O'Brien) decides to follow her outside but Leanne has got there first. Carla tells Leanne (Jane Danson) that she wants to tell everyone that Liam loved her but Leanne tells her that it would hurt too many people. Later back at the office Carla tells Tony that she needs to go away for a while – he can’t believe that he might still be losing her despite the lengths he went to try and keep her.
The police tell Sally (Sally Whittaker) and Kevin (Michael Le Vell) that cash has been withdrawn from Rosie’s account at a cash point just outside Manchester. They tell them that they are looking at CCTV footage. Sophie is convinced it must be Rosie (Helen Flanagan) and that she must be ok but Sally and Kevin daren’t build up their hopes.
Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) has arrived back home after confessing to Prem (Madhav Sharma) and he is surprised to find Tara (Ayesha Dharker) at the flat with Amber (Nikki Patel). With heavy heart he tells Tara that they have to finish but he doesn’t tell her the real reason why.
Becky (Katherine Kelly) is probably the only resident in a good mood – she is a free woman and now Roy (David Neilson) has taken a call from Hayley saying she is on her way home.
This episode is written by Debbie Oates, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Pip Short.
****
Wednesday 29 October 7.30pm
There’s a tense atmosphere at Tony (Gray O'Brien) and Carla’s flat as Carla (Alison King) insists to Tony that she is still going to go away for a while. They arrive at the factory and she sees the mess he made of the office the night before. She tells Tony that she is going to stay with a friend in LA and won’t give him a straight answer when he asks if they will still be getting married when she returns.
Sally (Sally Whittaker) and Kevin’s (Michael Le Vell) concerns for Rosie (Helen Flanagan) increase when the police say that they have CCTV footage of someone using her bank card. If it wasn’t Rosie using it then who was it and where is she?
Ken (William Roache) is still desperate to hear from Peter but he can’t get any reply from his phone. But shortly after lunch Peter (Chris Gascoyne) arrives at the house – with his son Simon (Alexander Bain) in tow. He tells Ken that he didn’t hear anything from Lucy for five years until she called to tell him she was dying and she wanted him to look after Peter. Once the youngster is down in bed Ken takes Peter for a drink and it soon becomes clear that the last thing Peter wants is to be saddled with a child.
It appears DC Hooch (Dominic Carter) is not going to let Becky (Katherine Kelly) get away with her drunken rampage and decides to pay Steve a visit at the pub. Steve (Simon Gregson) covers with Michelle (Kym Marsh) and tells her it is Streetcars business. Hooch makes it clear to Steve that he needs to think long and hard before he jeopardizes what he has with Michelle for Becky.
This episode is written by Peter Whalley, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Pip Short.

Friday 31 October 7.30pm
Peter (Chris Gascoyne) apologises to Ken (William Roache) for what he said in the Rovers the previous evening. Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) and Blanche (Maggie Jones) try to make Halloween exciting for Simon (Alexander Bain) and Ken tells Roy (David Neilson) he can’t go into work because he needs to help Peter with Simon. Later when Peter arrives home drunk, it is increasingly clear that he is not handling sudden fatherhood very well.
Sally (Sally Whittaker) is looking at old photos of Rosie (Helen Flanagan) and Sophie (Brooke Vincent) suggests that they make missing person posters. Meanwhile a desperate Rosie hits upon an idea to try and escape. She manages to manouvre the wardrobe under the attic roof window. Will she be able to shout for help?
Tony (Gray O'Brien) feels worried, angry and powerless as Carla (Alison King) leaves for LA. He gets out his mobile phone and rings Jimmy. On what should have been his wedding day he finds himself drowning his sorrows in a pub
Becky (Katherin Kelly) is stunned when DC Hooch (Dominic Carter) arrives at Roys Rolls and arrests her. Roy goes with her to the station but Becky has to face Hooch on her own as he tells her he has witnesses to the incidents. Still insisting she is innocent Becky is charged and released on bail.
This episode is written by Jayne Hollinson, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Pip Short.

Friday 31 October 8.30pm
Rosie (Helen Flanagan) is desperate to escape and finally manages to smash the window in the roof by climbing onto the wardrobe. Getting her head through the gap she spots a woman jogging below and screams for help but the woman is listening to music and doesn’t hear her. Rosie loses her balance and falls from the wardrobe knocking herself unconscious. With no one to hear her fall and John away on holiday will she survive?
Becky (Katherine Kelly) tells Steve (Simon Gregson) that she has been charged with assault and he tells her he will have to retract his statement. Becky pleads with him not to and tells him that when she was 15 she reported Hooch for trying it on with her. Steve (Simon Gregson) is shocked that she let him lie to a bent copper who is now after both of them. But the day just gets worse for Steve when Becky plants a smacker on him as Hooch drives past and it is witnessed by Dan (Matthew Crompton).
Maria (Samia Smith) is back at home and going through Liam’s stuff – she is shocked when she switches his mobile phone on and finds all the calls he made to Carla.
Elsewhere Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) leaves for France, minus Blanche (Maggie Jones) and Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) asks Norris (Malcolm Hebdon) if he is a transsexual!
This episode is written by Jonathan Harvey, produced by Kim Crowther and directed by Pip Short.

THE Coronation Street cobbles could see the return of a few rovers next year.
As mentioned in last night’s blog, I spoke to producer Kim Crowther yesterday.
She told me: “There might be a few faces we bring back.
“Ones that have left recently, who we love but we just felt at the time, ‘Why would they stay at this point in the story?’
“But that we might well still bring back and see again next year.”
Although I may be wide of the mark, my thoughts immediately turned to one or two members of the Morton family.
They were led by Michael Starke, recently departed as kebab shop owner Jerry
Young Darryl is the only Morton left on screen.
Although his mum Teresa Bryant (Karen Henthorne) was seen again recently after getting drunk in The Precinct.
That led to the exit of his twin sister Mel, played by Emma Edmondson.
Darryl is played by Johnny Dixon, who has grown into one of the young bright lights in the Corrie cast.
“I think all the actors in the Morton family were terrific,” said Kim.
“I just think they were on screen for an awfully long time before they got any story.
“And then they seemed to make sense.
“It was a big family to establish, as well.
“But then when we brought in the mother Teresa, it kind of made sense of the family, actually.
“But by then we were into a big story which meant an exit at the end of it.
“And Darryl was the only one who really got established with other regular characters, being David and the Platts.
“But it’s great keeping Darryl around because it means we can bring any of the others back as and when, when we’ve got a story.”
So which Morton would you like to bring back to the Street?
And what about elsewhere on the cobbles?
How about Harry Mason (Jack Ellis) – another recent departure?
We now know he is selling off his chain of bookmakers, which seems pretty final to me.
But might there be a future for him with Liz behind the bar of the Rovers?

She explained: “It doesn’t take too long for Maria to find out about Liam’s love for Carla.
“It’s awful. And once it all comes out Maria’s emotions are all over the place.
“Obviously she’s pregnant, so when she finds out about the affair her world comes crashing down even more – if that’s at all possible. It’s just horrible. It really has been the worst year ever for Maria.
“And things are not going to improve for a long while. The only good thing she has in her life is her unborn baby.
“But viewers will start to see her trying to uncover the truth about Liam’s death – she’s about to turn detective.
“We’re in the middle of filming Carla and Tony’s wedding where something massive will be revealed.
“I’m not allowed to say what it is but it will convince Maria even more that Tony murdered her husband.
“He’s such a charmer, so everyone will think she’s going mad if she starts accusing Tony of murder. What she needs is some hard evidence.”

13-10-2008, 06:29 PM
t week, I managed to catch up with Coronation Street's leading lady Kim Crowther at the press screening for Liam's death episode(s). So here, in a candid chat, Corrie's number one producer talks about her aims for the show, the demise and potential return of the Mortons, Carla's brother, Corrie's credits, the Windass clan, Eileen Grimshaw and Underworld knicker stitcher Wiki Dankowska.
A big thanks to all those who sent in possible questions for the chat. Due to time constraints, I was only able to choose the best handful!
You've been at the head of Corrie for a good number of months now – how did you settle into the role?
"Alright I think! [Laughs] I kind of knew how big the job was going to be as I worked on the show before as assistant producer for four years, so I knew what it all entailed."
What have been your main goals for the show?
"I wanted more humour and more of our regular cast on screen. I just felt that we were playing too few stories with too few character groups. I wanted to see a lot more stories with a lot more regulars."
How proud are you of the Liam murder storyline?
"There's lots of big stuff coming up over the autumn and into the winter, but the story has been building over quite a long period of time. Rob was leaving so we seized the opportunity to make a big story out of it. And actually, this isn't the end – it's the start of the next chapter that goes on for much longer than you'd expect. I think (and hope!) it'll be very surprising for viewers."
You've had quite a substantial cast clear out since you arrived. What were the reasons for the changes?
"The decisions were made to make space for a lot of the regular cast that I felt we weren't really seeing on screen. A lot of really good actors have gone and we may them see again – I'm not saying we won't – but I didn't think there was any point in keeping people around if they didn't have a story and they hadn't quite made their mark."
A lot of viewers started warming to the characters you ultimately axed – the Masons, the Mortons and Vernon. Was it intended that we felt like that towards them? Do you regret any of your decisions?
"We had a big story for the Mortons (the poisoning) but I think they had been too long on screen without a story and so people were saying 'Who are they?' and 'What's their purpose?' I actually think that since Teresa came in – played by Karen Henthorn – they suddenly started to make sense. But unfortunately, we felt it was too late.
"That doesn't mean we won't see any of them again - some of them I'm hoping to bring back - but I think it's really hard to establish such a big family all at once. You need a big story to kick them off and you need to be able to integrate them with the other characters. That was one of their problems. Even when we played the big poisoning story, which I think they all did fantastically with, it was all very isolated from the rest of the cast. We only got to know Darryl [Johnny Dixon] and became comfortable with him because of his involvement with the Platts and David [Jack P. Shepherd]. That was one of the reasons why we decided to keep him around."
A lot of people are seeing the new Windass clan as a Morton family replacement – is that the case?
"No – they're coming in for a story with the Platts. We have a story to play out but whether they stay beyond that remains to be seen. We have a story and it involves bringing some new characters in, but it's mainly about the Platts - a group of characters we all know and love. The Windass family will cause mayhem for them. Hopefully we'll start to love the Windass family, too, even if we find that we love to hate them! If that's the case, then hopefully we'll hang on to them."
One question I've been burning to ask you – will we ever see Carla's brother? Do you have any plans for him?
"Not at the moment, but we do talk about him from time to time, so don't be surprised if he does pop up. Watch this space. We've got lots of other exciting things planned for Carla, so when Alison [King] returns from maternity leave, she'll be very busy."
Eileen Grimshaw – I think I've billed her in the past as one of the most underused characters in soap. What are your thoughts? Do you have any plans for her?
"Yeah, we've got quite a big story that we'll be playing with her over the coming months where we meet her dad. It'll connect her to Rita and Julie… I'm not going to tell you any more than that! Sue is absolutely fantastic though, I agree."
You're bringing back Peter Barlow soon - do you have any more plans to bring back any fan favourites?
"Not at the moment, no. But I'm extremely happy Peter Barlow's coming back to the show. Tony Gordon and Peter Barlow are two strong men on the Street and I really do think that they'll fulfil some of the same territory Rob [James-Collier] did."
Are there any classic characters you'd like to see return?
"There are lots of characters that I've loved over the years, like Hilda Ogden (Jean Alexander), Karen McDonald (Suranne Jones) and Shelley Unwin (Sally Lindsay). I loved Tracey Barlow (Kate Ford) – I'd love to bring her back, too. There are too many to choose from. But at the same time, I think we've got some fantastic characters in the show at the moment, so I don't think there's a hole that needs filling. The stories that we've got playing over the autumn and winter will hopefully fulfil – or at least start to fulfil – my aims which I set out when I became producer. We've got so many great characters that we can play stories with at the moment. Becky's going to be massive next year, too."
What's the latest on Bradley Walsh's return?
"At the moment, there are no plans to for Bradley to return."
Will you be delving into the past of Wiki? She's very popular on the DS forums...
"We may well do when she comes back from maternity leave. I think she's great. I completely respect what fans say on forums such as Digital Spy, but I do try to avoid them due to the time difference between transmission and filming - I'm always thinking three months ahead!"
And finally, the opening credits – do you have any plans to update them?
"No. I wouldn't like to. I'm a bit old school and I like us to know where we are with the show that we love and I would be loathe to change the credits or the music."

The tension between Tony and Liam is brilliant, you can just see that in Tony's eyes he wants to rip Liams head off

Scarlett.
