Ben has been axed and Lucas will probably be going this year too after he tries to kill Denise and with Chelsea, Libby and Liz going too surely the net is closing in theres only so much they can do with him now...

I think Eastenders doesn't quite know what to do with Janine's character anymore which is a shame:(.

I want the fun Christian back, he'll never be able to be happy with Syed unless he's still in cloud cuckoo land:(.

Yeah I think they don't neither, I miss the bitchy Janine. I find her boring when she's nice to be honest.

Anyway, EE is in for a bad fortnight ratings-wise

On Monday 24th May EastEnders airs against England football match which is on ITV1 (Corrie airs at 7:00pm)
On Tuesday 25th May EastEnders airs against hour long Emmerdale (to make up for Mondays missed episode)

The week after

Bank holiday Monday 31st May EastEnders airs against the BGT Final week which starts at 7:30pm
On Friday 4th June EastEnders will go upagainst the Semi Finals of BGT which starts at 7:30pm

Corrie is running Mon-Fri that week at 9:00pm.

Why did Charlie Clements (Bradley) look so miserable at the Soap Awards last night?

He obviously didnt want to be a part of Eastenders anymore you can tell her cba and is glad to be done with it.

Cheeky bastard after all its done for him, and he went up 3 TIMES and snubbed every one who voted and supported him with a 5 second speech..

'This is for the crew.. bye'

FFS We didn't care about the crew!
Lacey also looked as if she couldnt be ****ed being there.

All very miserable.

All in all this was the worse awards.

They both keep themselves to themselves, Lacey in particular is uncomfortable with the awards ceremonies and hates all the celeb thing thhat comes with the job and is all about the acting and quite shy.. I don't think she is miserable maybe thats just her normal face.

Yeah Lacey looked like she didn't want to be there neither I agree, seemed to me there was some tension between her and Charlie. I haven't really thought of Bradley until today so I can't have missed him that much, he hasn't been much of a loss in all honesty.

Inside Soap says that Ben will get an explosive exit which will shock viewers and that it will affect a lot of other residents as well. Apparently Phil will be left shaken by his son's actions. Sounds very exciting, can't wait to see what they come up with!

Yeah but I hope she returns and then stays for abit but when Barbra does get too old and does want to leave, then she should die.

Um, well Lucas and Phil were arguing and Ben told Phil that Jordan was bullying him, so Phil told him to smack him down or somthing so the end was basically Ben pushing Jordan almost into the hole in the Arches and then he grabbed a tool and said 'You need smacking down!' And poor Jordan look terrified, this was on the same day as his mother's birthday too :(

To be honest though Peggy and Barbera are both at an old age and it does seem unrealistic that younger characters will get killed off yet the older generation just leave. I think it would be more realistic to kill Peggy off but I hope she does just leave for pastures new.

Peggy is such a legendary EE character.. I know they've killed some like that e.g. Pauline, Angie and Dirty Den but in this case someone who I would consider to be the rock of the show and it would be sad if they did indeed choose to kill her off with no return:(.

Mhmmm its like she's turned full circle! I wonder if she will be around until Kat and Alfie are back or if she will have left before? Might be somehow connected with their arrival.

Oh yeah, if Charlie is killed off, which I would assume will be the case, the reason they would come back is to attend his funeral! Hmmm, although Stacey leaving soon after a funeral wouldnt really be that much of a happy ending, so yeah there is an opportunity for them to return earlier.

Meet Vanessa Gold!
http://images.digitalspy.co.uk/10/20/550w_soaps_eastenders_zoe_lucker.jpg

Originally signed in March, Zöe joins the cast from next Friday (June 4) as Max Branning's new love interest. A prim and proper woman, Vanessa knows what she wants and how to get it - but she's not a manipulative bitch. Oh no she isn't.

She just knows how to use her wit and charm to ensure she snares whatever she sets her eyes on.

With her, she brings daughter Jodie - played by soap newcomer Kylie Babbington - who quickly becomes embroiled in a relationship with Max's right-hand man at the Car Lot, Darren Miller.

Oh really? I read in Inside Soap that's she's given the all clear.

I read in Soap Life that she dies and Grant returns but then again Inside Soap is the most relibable magazine, Soap Life are the same magazine that just last week said Big Brother 11 begins on the 10th June LOL

Although, Ross did say in September last year that he would love to return to the show and I remember reading that Kirkwood said that for Peggys departure, we can be sure to see some old Mitchell faces.

Makes sense but I just can't see them killing off Peggy.. I would hope Babs can return in the future but Grant is class:D.

Ryan/Janine are now actually boring me:(, the writers seem to not know what to do with them and Janine is better off going back to her bitchy ways as she's more restrained when playing the reformed.

I can't see her being killed either, I remember hearing they wanted to leave the doors open for her to come back but I would rather her die and Grant come back than her leave alive and Grant not return.

I dont mind Ryan he has potenital but Janine should just leave now shes boring, I agree.

Babs is a soap legend.. EE have been brave in killing off characters like Pauline even though Wendy Richards herself wasn't happy about Pauline marrying Derek hence her decision to leave.. the show wouldn't be right for me if Peggy was killed off never to return.

If I was Bryan Kirkwood I would consider bringing back Clare Bates to play the bad girl role.. he got the character of Clare Devine spot on in Hollyoaks (check YT:p), she was a very nasty character yet entertaining to watch and unlike Santer he would make it work this time.

As I'm sure you've heard actress Melissa Suffield has been axed following numerous warnings to change her behaviour.

Sad - I liked her character and thought she had the potential to be a good soap bitch but they can't bend the rules for one person so it's her own fault.

Not keen on this teen storyline but tonights episode surprised me.. it was funny apart from Leon and Fatboy. Lucy was great, really going to miss her:( hope they bring Mel Suffield back when she's 18 or recast the role...

Billie is awful, Whitney made a huge mistake dumping Todd for him. Thank God for Ian, Bianca, Peggy, Pat and Ricky tonight:thumbs:.

What?

The teens were the stars of the show tonight, they were the main storyline.
Fatboy was hilarious as usual, I laughed at Peter trying to act cool, ZsaZsa still looked as fit as ever, Whitney was abit annoying, it was actually kind of good to see Mercy again.

Cannot wait until tomorrow.

I agree I hope they bring back Melissa, she has potenital to become a real EE Bitch and legend.

Although I'd rather her not return at all than her be re-casted, no one could play Lucy like she does and it would be kinda weird seeing her as someone else, even though about 2 or 3 actresses played Lucy years ago.. I can only think of Lucy as Mel now lol

EE should focus on the younger characters but some of them do get on my nerves and need more characterisation.

Melissa has to take responsibility for her actions and no doubt will be full of regret but I think she must have done more than whats reported for EE to go that far definetly more to it... Seems like Lucy will be recasted and BK is good at recasts especially getting Gemma Bissix on Hollyoaks.

I agree, they need to go into more deph with the characters.

Fatboy has gained alot of fans but he also has alot of hate, I think if they went more into his life and had storylines with him people may get to know him more.

Its also a shame ZsaZsa wasn't given a proper chance to develop as a character.

I suppose your right, the recast of Sam Mitchell worked great, so good that Kim should of returned instead of Daniella, so it might not be so bad.

Peter and the gang panic that Leon could be dead and they go to the police station to confess to the hit and run. A panicking Peter is tongue-tied and Fat Boy has to tell the story. But are things quite as they seem?

Has Leon died?
This was filmed weeks and weeks ago, Leon was only axed about 3 weeks ago remember?

I think they would consider bringing her back although good on her for trying her hand at both acting and writing:).

Speaking of their departure, Kirkwood exclusively told DS: "Emer and Sam have made a real impact in the short time they've been on the Square and we wish them all the best for the future."

Rumours are suggesting that the character of Lucy may be recast because she's such a iconic character with a lot of history but I don't feel happy with anyone but Melissa being Lucy to be honest. She really made Lucy her own and I thought she had a promising future and was going to be one of the big stars. It's sad because in the past EE actors have done worse things and not even got a caution.

I agree about Mel, she got caught and got the warnings yet ignored fair enough must take the consequences.. maybe they should consider bringing back Mel back when she's 18?:).

As for a recast it's simple to do but it takes the actor time to settle into the show and people to get used to a new face.. then you have the sometimes change in character if thats what is decided.

What does everyone think of this rumoured upcoming "disaster" then?

I think it's plausible because of the amount of characters leaving. They wouldn't all just leave of their own accord. With EastEnders shortly turning to HD as well it gives them the perfect opportunity to do something like this. The Vic hasn't been blown up before so that could be one possibilty. Either way I definitely think it won't be surprising, for me anyway, if in the summer of 2010 a lot of characters lose their lives due to a disaster of some sort.

WHAT?

OMG.

I made a thread a few weeks ago asking this and Smithy said they couldn't because it would never look right.

And I think its great, its the real oppertunity to kill them all off, they can just have everyone like in The Vic for a party perhaps for a wedding of someone like Janine and Ryan?

And then tensions have been building over the weeks until upstairs, someone decides to take their own life and set fire to The Vic upstairs, this soon catches on downstairs and kills half the cast while most make it out alive.

Would be outstanding.

I looked further into this BBC Eastenders HD thing and it says that the set will have to under go a MAJOR make over to look good in HD.

They said things have been fixed here and there, but nothing noticeable but big paint jobs, and refurbishments are needed.

Does this mean that some time during Summer, Eastenders will go off air to give time for them to fix up the set for the HD Launch in September?

Speaking of her first day, Lucker told DS: "I'm so lucky to be working with [Jake Wood, who plays Max]. He's such a brilliant, standout actor. When I got there on the first day, we sat down and had a coffee. He was the one who gave me the tour of the Square and showed me where everything was."

She added: "A lot of my first scenes were me driving. I'd only passed my driving test four weeks before I started, so I was there rocking around the Square in this five-and-a-half-litre Mercedes. I was having palpitations, worrying I'd drive into The Vic or over Jake."

I would of loved if they uploaded that to Youtube.

We only have 2 tours of Eastenders on Youtube.

1 with Deno from 2006.
1 with Sean Slater from 2008.

We need an updated one :(

Former Footballers' Wives star Zöe Lucker makes her EastEnders debut as the glamorous Vanessa Gold on Friday evening - much to the delight of resident womaniser Max Branning (Jake Wood). With her daughter Jodie (Kylie Babbington) pinning her hopes on a job at Roxy's salon, Vanessa buys her a motor from the Car Lot and ends up taking quite a shine to Max - before they know it, they're romping on the office desk. Max, however, has no idea that Vanessa's married to a man called Harry - and has been for the last 20 years. Here, in her first interview since joining the East-End soap, Zöe reveals all about her character, how Vanessa's different from Tanya Turner and why she was so concerned about driving onto the Square for the first time.

Did you watch EastEnders before joining?
"I've watched it on and off since right from the very, very beginning when Den and Angie were in it. Depending on what I'm doing in my life, I dip in and out. If I'm at home and able to watch it, I'll always watch. I lost touch with the show for a couple of years but started watching again when Patsy Palmer and Chris Coghill's storyline was playing out - that was just so compelling. I was hooked again."

Is it quite flattering that programme makers and storyliners bill characters as a Zöe Lucker-type?
"I'm so flattered by that. Bryan told me that they spent some time thinking about Vanessa and then Bryan said, 'Why don't we just ask Zöe?' Julie Crampsie then called my agent, which resulted in me having a chat with Bryan on the phone. It just felt so right, especially at this stage in my life. It's so perfect and lovely to be part of such an amazing show."

How would you describe Vanessa?
"She's very glamorous and a real risk-taker who gets bored very easily. She's quite a complicated one. She appears like she's one thing, but we slowly but surely realise that she's not everything she seems. There are a lot of layers to her. One thing, though, is that she's a doting mother - she adores her daughter Jodie. Vanessa gets on with women and men, and luckily they like her too. She's not condescending, mean or spiteful but she knows how to get her kicks. It's not calculating, as such - she just finds ways of keeping herself busy. She's actually married. She turns up in the Square and is immediately taken with [Max] as he doesn't throw himself at her. He's very off with her and she's intrigued as she's not used to that kind of reception from men. She gets a real kick out of that."

How different is Vanessa from Tanya?
"Tanya was a very manipulative and calculating person who would have done anything to get what she wanted out of life. Vanessa's a much more hard-working and more relaxed character on certain levels. It's difficult - and I don't want to give anything away - but she needs to keep herself busy for certain reasons. Tanya had a child but didn't realise she had a bond until the baby had died, whereas Vanessa's adoring of her daughter - so that's worlds apart. Vanessa's not always on edge like Tanya was, either - she's more much laid back about life in general."

There is an essence of Tanya in there somewhere, though.
"She's very glamorous! Everything she wears is cream and her hair's always immaculate and massive. Physically they're the same - and I know that sounds weird - but with someone like Kate Keenan in Holby Blue, she was a long way away from Tanya. Vanessa's not dissimilar looks-wise."

Being from the North, are you having to put on a cockney accent?
"I'm not actually using a Southern accent - I'm using my own voice, which I'm grateful for. When they called about the part, I spoke to Dom [Treadwell-Collins] about the character and what they wanted from her but after I put the phone down, I thought, 'Oh wait, do they want me to put on an Essex accent?' because they told me that Vanessa lives in Chigwell. I think if you're doing one-off dramas, you can go and play a character with an accent, but when you're surrounded by people who use their own accents, I think it would have felt really unnatural for me to be putting it on. It could have all gone a bit Dick Van Dyke!"

What's it like working with Jake?
"I'm so lucky to be working with him. He's such a brilliant, standout actor. When I got there on the first day, we sat down and had a coffee. He was the one who gave me the tour of the Square and showed me where everything was. A lot of my first scenes were me driving. I'd only passed my driving test four weeks before I started, so I was there rocking around the Square in this five-and-a-half-litre Mercedes. I was having palpitations, worrying I'd drive into The Vic or over Jake. I took my test twice when I was 17 and failed both times and since then, I've been on and off taking more lessons. I took another test when I was pregnant with Lily, which I failed. Then another one after I'd had Lily and failed that one. I've done so many now I can't even remember the date I passed… I did an intense course of lessons in February, then I finally passed on March 2. It's been the bane of my life. I have a scar from that day as when I passed, I launched myself at the examiner - to his horror - and I had blood all over my hand because I'd caught it on something in all the excitement!"

News just broken on DS:

http://images.digitalspy.co.uk/10/21/M/soaps_eastenders_4016_7.jpg

EastEnders bosses are to refilm some parts of Lucas Johnson's story following the recent prostitute murders in Bradford.

During next week's episodes - which were planned months ago - man of the cloth-gone-bad Lucas (Don Gilet) was to be seen visiting a local red light district and picking up a call girl named Jade.

From there, he would drive her away to a remote location and force her to pray for God's forgiveness.

After she attempts to run away, Lucas gives chase and creating a ligature with his tie - as he previously did while killing his wife's ex Owen - he would then seemingly strangle the innocent girl to death.

However, following the CPS's decision to charge 40-year-old criminology student Stephen Griffiths with the murders of three call girls, EastEnders execs have decided to drop the prostitute link from next week's episodes out of respect for the families of those affected by recent events.

A spokesperson for the BBC soap told Digital Spy: "EastEnders storylines are written many months in advance and any similarity to real-life events is coincidental."

They continued: "However, on this occasion - to ensure we do not cause distress to the families involved in the recent tragic events in Bradford - we have decided to reshoot some parts of the storyline involving Lucas Johnson."

Affected scenes are currently being reshot at the soap's home at Elstree Sudios, Borehamwood, Herts ahead of transmission on Wednesday.

Yesterday evening, Coronation Street pulled its fourth episode of Siege Week following the shooting tragedy in Cumbria, in which 12 people were shot dead by a gunman.

I can see Ronnie and Jack leaving soon to be honest. Not always the case but marriage limits the amount of storylines characters can do. That's why most characters in Walford are unmarried. I remember Denise used to have loads of storylines until she got married to Lucas, she still has quite a few, one big storyline at the moment even, but not as much as she did.

Meh I'm probably totally wrong but I just can't see either Ronnie or Jack being on the Square in twenty years time personally.

I can't see Samantha Womack staying on at Eastenders for ages tbh, at the moment Rack is one of the most popular couples and have a fanbase so Ronnie and Jack will remain for a bit but like you say they won't be around in like 10 or 20 years:D.

I heard that Stacey's birthing partner would be Jean and that isn't unexpected perhaps Ryan or Janine find her then contact Jean?.

Anyway it's a clever idea involving Janine in this baby storyline because she had feelings for Archie in a twisted kind of way and Stacey killed him so revenge would be sweet in her view although great to see Charlie Brooks and Lacey Turner in more scenes together:).

Bringing Kim in is a clever way of keeping Denise on when Lucas inevitably leaves.. I was worried that Santer would axe her but that seems not to be the case as she's a potentially great character:).

I thought tonight's episode had a different feel to it. The school has never been shown before as far as I'm aware and people could say it's a way of Bryan bringing Hollyoaks to EE but I hope we get to see more of them scenes. I have a good feeling about Bryan being producer after watching tonight's episode.

By the way tonight's episode was meant to air on a Monday but couldn't because of the World Cup. It did seem a bit of a Monday episode, everything fresh and seeing some characters who weren't shown in previous week etc. so that explains it.

Sadly they are ^

Loved the school scenes with Zsa Zsa and Lucy the other day, I'm loving getting to see the school. Although seemed odd to be sitting an exam in a classroom.

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon with the Jodie love, I think she's great. She's a total breath of fresh air and so far much superior than her mother who I've been disappointed with. Loved seeing Liz more tonight, such a shame she was axed she could have been the next big gossip on the Square and she really fits in too.

Lucy leaving in late Summer, sooner than I expected, she must've known she was leaving before the press were told then.

Recasts for both her and Ben happening later this year around late Autumn apparently.

EastEnders star Rita Simons has revealed that forthcoming episodes of the soap will revisit the relationship between her screen sister Ronnie Mitchell and their late father Archie.

In the BBC soap's live instalment earlier this year, viewers learned that Ronnie (Samantha Womack) had been raped by Archie (Larry Lamb) when she was a teenager. The dark secret emerged as Ronnie had a heated argument with Simons's character Roxy.

Although the storyline has been put on the backburner since the revelation, viewers can expect it to be brought back to the forefront in the weeks to come.

Speaking on This Morning today, Simons confirmed: "It is being revisited and I'm very glad. We've actually filmed it already. Sam Womack was phenomenal. I think she's had to keep replaying - I don't think she gets enough credit for it - this tragic heroine over and over. Just when we think it's over, she's got another revelation, so she was just incredible."

She continued: "It was so important to me that when we shot it - and I'm not a diva and I never do this - I asked the director, 'Please can we do it again?' because I wasn't happy. It was just that important to Sam and I, and I hope we've nailed it."

Archie was written out of EastEnders last Christmas when he was murdered in the Queen Vic, sparking a 'whodunit' storyline.

I think Ronnie will tell Stacey about her rape and when the truth comes about about Stacey killing Archie she will help her to escape the Square.

Janine is seriously bugging me now, it's always the same thing round in circles for her, be nasty to people and scheme then get found out and beg for remorse.. then comes the reformed character which doesn't last I do like the character but EE clearly don't know what to do with her.

Well, well, well - what do we have here, then?

We've already had numerous EastEnders script mentions of newcomer Vanessa Gold's husband - and Jodie's father - Harry in the small number of episodes since the two females in his life set foot on the Square.

It was therefore inevitable that we'd meet such a prominent character in their lives at some point in the near future a la Ronnie and Roxy's evil dad Archie Mitchell.

With Harry, I expected something similar. I thought we'd have to wait for months - at least until Zöe Lucker begins her extended second stint - to see him for the first time.

But not with this patriarch.

Here's an exclusive first look at Harry Gold - played by Linal Haft - alongside Vanessa.

Don't they look happy?!

Take a closer look...

Beneath Vanessa's brassy exterior lies a trapped housewife.

We've seen Vanessa reject umpteen phonecalls from Harry and during next Wednesday's episode, he's at it again. Anyone would think he was checking up on her!

After a sneaky fag in the car, we actually follow Vanessa into her home - a luxury Essex mansion, complete with long driveway and pillars outside the front door. Very swish. It's all material, though. Inside, a daughter she dotes on and a husband she apparently detests.

Stepping into the front door, Vanessa changes out of her high heels and into her flip-flops, before straightening the other shoes in the lineup. On her way to the kitchen, she also spots a tall ornament out of place. Happy after pushing it into its rightful position, she moves on. Sounds all a bit OCDish to me. But that's not the best bit.

Heading into the living room, Vanessa takes a deep breath and approaches a large leather armchair. At this point, I expected a Blofeld-esque non-reveal of who was slouched in it. But to my surprise, the camera panned to Harry.

First words to his loving wife? "Mine's a double."

Questioning why she smells of smoke and interrogating her over her movements for the day, Harry eventually strikes the killer blow - he reveals that he's actually spoken to the friend Vanessa claims she's been with all day. An argument below a looming family portrait ensues, before Vanessa heads to bed - alone.

As she does, Harry moves the ornament back to the edge of the table in the hallway. Controlling or what?!

The whole 'going into the bad man's lair' scenario very much reminded me of the first time we met villainous Mitchell patriarch Archie in July 2008. Mind you, that's not a bad thing. If Archie's the measure of a modern day successful soap villain, exec producer Bryan Kirkwood's onto a winner.

Hopefully, though, Harry's not a stereotypical Archie-type - even if he is another brainchild of Simon Ashdown.

Harry makes his first appearance during next Wednesday's hour-long Ashdown ep, during which Stacey gives birth and Max comes face to face with Tanya again.

Incidentally, that episode ends with Julia's Theme...

Looks like an interesting storyline
