Personally I can meet the Government half way on this Vaccine ID idea.
I can accept a Vaccine Passport to go into other countries, but in our own country we should be able to go anywhere that we want to without a Vaccine Passport.

More than 600,000 people using the NHS Covid-19 app in England and Wales were sent self-isolation alerts in the week between 8 and 15 July.
Data shows 618,903 alerts were sent - a 17% rise from the previous week.
There are complaints from businesses that the alerts are causing serious staff shortages and affecting services.
However some fully-vaccinated key workers will be exempt from self-isolating if they are pinged by the app as a close contact of a positive case.
Business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng told the BBC a “very narrow” list of jobs would be released today.
Self-isolation for all fully-vaccinated people pinged by the app as close contacts is due to be scrapped by 16 August.
The app alert is advisory only and not enforceable by law, unlike a phone call from the Test and Trace team.

for me its way too much coincidence that the infection rate drops when schools break up. Yes, infections may rise a bit from "freedom day" but i think schools being off more than compensates. This 10-15 days waiting for infections just isn't applicable as the vast majority of people are infected in 3 or 4 days

UK food workers to be exempt from Covid isolation
[Key parts of the food industry will be allowed
to do daily Covid testing from Friday instead
of asking staff to self-isolate.
The government said daily testing would be
implemented at key sites, such as supermarket
depots and food manufacturers.
Close to 10,000 staff at 500 sites in the UK
will eventually be affected.
It comes as supermarket bosses warn
of severe staff shortages after thousands
received alerts to self-isolate.
Supermarkets said the supply of some
products was being affected by the "pingdemic"
keeping staff away from work,
as a record 618,903 people were told
to self-isolate by the NHS Covid app
in England and Wales. ]

most of Netherlands darkred on new eu coronavirus map
https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2021/07/most-of-the-netherlands-turns-dark-red-on-new-eu-coronavirus-map/
The provincies of Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland, Utrecht, Noord-Brabant, Gelderland and Overijssel have turned dark red on the latest coronavirus risk map published by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
Groningen was switched to dark red in last week’s update, when the rest of the country moved from amber and green to red following the surge in coronavirus infections.
That decision led Germany and France to toughen up their entry rules for people from the Netherlands, but not to any countries refusing to accept Dutch holidaymakers.
However, the red rating does allow EU countries to bring in their own measures to curtail travel, such as introducing extra testing or quarantine requirements.
The ECDC revises its risk ratings every Thursday.
Dutch public health institute RIVM said earlier this week that the number of new infections in the Netherlands appear to be stabilizing, although hospital admissions are going up.

Covid was only the 26th leading cause of death in England in June and made up
fewer than 1% of all fatalities, official data shows
Just 0.9 per cent of fatalities in England were down to the virus last month - the
equivalent of 11 per day, figures from the Office for National Statistics revealed
today. For comparison, heart disease - the country's leading killer - claimed
139 lives per day, 12 times more than the coronavirus. Meanwhile, the rate of
coronavirus deaths was so low in Wales they couldn't even work out where
Covid ranked compared to other diseases.

we cant trust the hospital admissions numbers either as it emerged last week they were not separating those who actually are admitted due to covid and those who are admitted for something else (like having a baby) and test positive for covid after admission, how difficult would it be to give us the actual numbers being admitted with covid
the infection rate is most definitely on the way down for now, could it have been the warm sunny weather we have had?

A California man who mocked Covid-19 vaccines on social media has died after a month-long battle with the virus.
Stephen Harmon, a member of the Hillsong megachurch, had been a vocal opponent of vaccines, making a series of jokes about not having the vaccine.
"Got 99 problems but a vax ain't one," the 34-year-old tweeted to his 7,000 followers in June.
He was treated for pneumonia and Covid-19 in a hospital outside Los Angeles, where he died on Wednesday.
In the days leading up to his death, Mr Harmon documented his fight to stay alive, posting pictures of himself in his hospital bed.
"Please pray y'all, they really want to intubate me and put me on a ventilator," he said.
In his final tweet on Wednesday, Mr Harmon said he had decided to go under intubation.
"Don't know when I'll wake up, please pray," he wrote.
Despite his struggle with the virus, Mr Harmon still said he would reject being jabbed, saying his religious faith would protect him.
Prior to his death, had joked about the pandemic and vaccines, sharing memes saying he trusted the Bible over top US disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci.
Hillsong founder Brian Houston confirmed news of his death in a tweet on Thursday.
"Ben has just passed on to us the devastating news that our beloved friend, Stephen Harmon has passed away from Covid. Heartbreaking," Mr Houston said.

Numbers going down fast!
Hospitals in Belfast have called in extra nurses to deal with the "extreme pressure" from increasing numbers of COVID-19 patients as Northern Ireland runs out of hospital beds.
The Belfast Trust, which runs the Northern Irish capital's hospitals, said the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Mater Hospital were both struggling to cope.
In a tweet appeal, it said: "We are under extreme pressure in the RVH & Mater as we care for an increasing number of Covid19+ patients, alongside emergency admissions.
"We are asking for help from our Trust nursing staff to work tonight & overnight & ask those available to work tonight to ring 07825 140 173."

Numbers going down fast!
"The data at present is looking good for at least the summer," said Prof Paul Hunter from the University of East Anglia.
"Today's figures do not of course include any impact of last Monday's end of restrictions. It will not be until about next Friday before the data includes the impact of this change."

Prof Woolhouse from Edinburgh University said there "may well" be another rise in cases this summer.
"There are at least eight million adults who have had no vaccination at all, plus most children under 18. That is still a lot of material for the virus to work with... and if the change in behaviour is dramatic enough [after 19 July], then we could see cases increase again."

It's always slightly confusing when the papers conflate missed diagnoses with restrictions - rather than with hospitals struggling to cope due to skyrocketing cases.

The figures are not dramatically out of control, which is basically as good as it gets. Infection rates will fluctuate almost constantly, but as long as the hospitalisation/death rates remain relatively low then lets get keep life as normal as possible. I think we will have plenty to worry about again when autumn comes around

Not to be a harbinger but in all honesty, I think we're going to come to the sad realisation that the vaccines aren't quite the panacea we had hoped for. Hopefully they'll keep death numbers down, and ICU numbers manageable, but it's not going to be like the flu. The flu doesn't create this level of pressure on high dependency units. I suppose longer-term, it'll be about increasing HDU/ICU capacity to match, but let's face it at the moment there's neither the funding nor the numbers (we already have a drastic shortage of nurses) for that.

Thats what we need
and in Germany ''should germany bring in covid restrictions for unvaccinated people only''
The Delta variant of Covid-19 is fuelling a rise in infections in Germany. Will new restrictions be introduced? And if so, who will they affect?
What’s happening?
As Germany grapples with rising Covid infection rates, a fresh debate has been sparked over possible new curbs – and who they should apply to. But the country is already deeply divided on the issue.
Although German authorities have insisted there are no plans to bring in compulsory vaccinations, we’ve already seen signs that the country will come down harder on people who choose not to get their jabs. Politicians said earlier this month they would not rule out charging unvaccinated people for Covid tests for future.
But the topic moved further at the weekend when Chancellor Angela Merkel’s chief of staff Helge Braun said that if infection rates in Germany become too high, people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 may be the only ones allowed to enter restaurants, cinemas or stadiums.
”In the event of a high infection rate despite testing, unvaccinated people would have to reduce their contacts,” he said.
“That could also mean that certain things, such as visiting restaurants, cinemas and stadiums, would no longer be possible even for unvaccinated people who have been tested because the residual risk is too high,” he said, adding that this would be permitted by law.
On Monday Germany reported 958 new Covid cases within the last 24 hours, and three deaths. The incidence rate climbed to 14.3 infections per 100,000 people within seven days. It has been steadily rising for the last few weeks from the lowest point of 4.9 cases per 100,000 people on July 6th.
Who’s for it?
As you can imagine, the reaction is mixed. Ordering parts of the population to follow rules is controversial and would be difficult to check. The aim is to encourage people to get vaccinated.
“This is not discrimination against the unvaccinated,” said Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) in an interview with RTL/ntv.
He said that he respects a person’s decision not to get vaccinated.
“But the person who has not been vaccinated must also realise that we have to protect society as a whole and therefore can only allow those who have been vaccinated to attend major community events,” Seehofer said.
Seehofer, however, spoke out against mandatory vaccines in Germany.
“We have to convince people to get vaccinated,” he said. Seehofer added that being inoculated should not be made a prerequisite for things like employment or for signing an insurance contract. “We must not start that in Germany,” he added.
The president of the World Medical Association, Frank Ulrich Montgomery said he’s in favour of allowing vaccinated people more freedom in everyday life.
There is no reason to continue depriving vaccinated and immune people of their basic rights “just because a few eternal sceptics are opposed to vaccination”, Montgomery told the newspapers of the Funke Mediengruppe.
“Helge Braun is absolutely right. After all, it’s not about privileges for vaccinated people, but about restrictions on fundamental rights.”
Who’s against it?
Conservative candidate chancellor Armin Laschet spoke out against this move. “I don’t think anything of compulsory vaccination and I don’t think anything of indirectly putting pressure on people to get vaccinated,” he told broadcaster ZDF.
The Left Party’s Janine Wissler, also opposed Braun’s proposal. She said threatening people who have not yet been vaccinated with disadvantages is the wrong way to go, especially since there are still is no recommendations for some groups – such as pregnant women and those under 12 – to get vaccinated.
The opposition Free Democrats (FDP) also slammed the idea. FDP’s Wolfgang Kubicki described Braun’s proposal on Sunday as “introducing compulsory vaccination through the back door” and “clearly unconstitutional”.
But medical expert Montgomery hit back: “Only by vaccinating can we all regain our freedoms. The FDP – the supposed party of freedom – should also understand that.”
Will there be new lockdown measures?
Health Minister Jens Spahn recently said he did not expect tough measures to be introduced in Germany for vaccinated people as long as there are no mutations that impact protection from vaccines.
But with rising Covid rates, people in Germany are worried that their lives will be impacted severely again. Germany was in a state of shutdown from November 2020 to May this year.
The German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA) called on the government to develop new decision-making criteria for assessing the infection situation.
“Massive restrictions for society as well as for the economy can no longer be justified on the basis of high incidences alone,” chief executive Ingrid Hartges told the Funke Mediengruppe on Monday.
Other factors, such as the vaccination rate, the development of the course of the disease, the hospitalisation rate and the mortality rate, have to be taken into account, she said – ideally nationwide.
The government has signalled that it will take other factors into account when deciding on curbs in future.
Over the weekend, some German regional leaders said they wanted to hold crunch talks on the Covid situation earlier than planned. The meeting is scheduled for the end of August but Chancellor Merkel said last week she was open to holding it earlier.
Anything else on the table?
There is generally no taste in Germany for following other countries, such as France, and bringing compulsory vaccinations for groups of the population – like healthcare workers.
“I don’t think this is the right way to go in Germany, but it’s clear that we have to act,” FDP party leader Christian Lindner said on Monday, referring to the “rising, but not yet threatening” Covid case numbers. Lindner instead called for a continuation of the testing strategy.
“Test-based opening concepts have already proven their worth in the past during the last waves,” the FDP leader stressed. These are “a way for us to keep social life open in the fall as numbers rise.” There must be a “political guarantee” that a new lockdown will be ruled out, Lindner demanded.
He also suggested expanding the use of mobile vaccination teams and reassessing the pandemic.
“The focus on incidence, as we are currently experiencing again in the public debate, has not been convincing for a long time,” he said.

People who have recovered from COVID-19 are more likely to score lower on intelligence tests, new research has found.
Scientists tested 81,337 people between January and December last year as part of the Great British Intelligence Test, including almost 13,000 who had been infected with the virus.
Those who had been on ventilators saw the biggest deficit - equivalent to a seven-point drop.
After controlling for factors including age, sex, first language and education level, researchers found those who had contracted COVID saw the greatest underperformance on tasks requiring reasoning, planning and problem-solving compared to those who had not had the virus.
The study said: "These results accord with reports of long-COVID, where 'brain fog', trouble concentrating and difficulty finding the correct words are common."

I have two friends* who had to consciously curb their evening drinking during lockdown, and they're not "problem drinkers" ... for people who were already potentially drinking a bit too much, it's pushed them right into dangerous territory.
* To be fair for one of them it's because he's type 1 diabetic and it was sending his bloods off track. The other just realised that 3 beers every night, instead of just a Friday and Saturday, wasn't a sustainable life choice.

Yes they over-estimated, realistically it peaked at about 60k/day the same as Winter Wave.
Thus far deaths have peaked at 10x less... so I guess that holds true to the stat of vaccines being 90% effective against serious illness.

US needs to follow Germany's idea, restrictions/face mask compulsory for unvaccinated people only, this can work i think
since vaccinations cannot become compulsory, so you need to look at the next best step to take, protect the unvaccinated by giving them their social distance rules, face mask advice
but also allowing normal life to return for those who are vaccinated

the infection rate will fluctuate, we need to get used to that, but if it can come down as quickly as it has without restrictions, we are miles further forward than we were at the beginning of the year. We need to remember how many cities remained in near lockdown last summer and they just couldn't reduce the infection rate. Compare that to now

Don’t fully ageee with that, people going clubbing to bars and stadiums etc are encountering loads of people. The rising cases wouldn’t be an issue anyway, not many are dying in proportion to a 65m population, scaremongering has scared people senseless to do nothing al day despite 0.00000001% of the population dying each say.
Opening up has been a good decision by Boris. If a future lockdown happens at least people had opportunity to be free for a bit.

Netherlands: tuesdays usual week review
the R number is now below 1 again, at 0.8 (which means 100 infected spread the virus onto 80 others) and (for example at a R number of 1.75 which was last few weeks 100 infected can spread the virus onto 175 others)
number of positive tests has decreased a lot this week compared to last week
last week: 70.000
this week: 37.000
the RIVM expects the next few weeks ICU capacity to rise to 250 covid patients, this expectation is based on the decreasing daily new cases, should the new cases increase again, ICU peak might be higher than 250
the relaxing of travel advice isn't too much of a problem, however the OMT would've liked these relaxings in September so more people had the chance for fully vaccinations

Lots of people wont bothering with testing anymore, so the numbers of new cases will be about 4 or 5 times that amount, but you cant hide deaths and hospitalizations..
So even though the johnson variant was let into the country, we must start saying that Johnson's vaccine has worked.

they could be in for anything that ends up being fatal and catch covid along the way, but the point is its the trends that should be examined not the actual numbers. Serious illness from covid has been reduced incredibly by the vaccine. As much as people want to continue to scaremonger, that cannot be denied

The lateral flow tests are crap. Marginally better than nothing - if it comes up positive, you probably have Covid - but if it comes up negative it really means nowt, the false-negative rate for them is through the roof.
PCR test is the only way to be close to accurate.

I got mine a few days ago ... it expires on 24th August 2021 which was a bit of a disappointment..it looks like it will be renewed each month / 28 days :(
It comes in an email / PDF so you can have it on your phone and print it out

Just heard the latest Gov.uk information advert on the radio .. it basically says something like “ tens of millions of us are now double vaxed which helps keep us all safe but it still means you can catch Covid 19 and pass it on to others so it’s important that we all continue to be responsible ans wear masks etc when appropriate...”
It does NOT say anything about fully vaccinated people still being open to serious illness , needing ventilation or dying !!
Why not !?!?!?!

They have always said that the vaccines are 90% effective in preventing hospitalisation and > 98% in preventing death. No vaccine is ever 100% effective

I ordered the paper version as I didn't want the app and sometimes wifi can let you down, so handy to have as a back up, there is no expiry date on it
