View Full Version : Coronavirus Outbreak : Plan B

I think that's what I must have, I'll find out later if my test tells me that I have Covid. If it does, I'm gonna claim it's moon. It's been a while since I pulled a moon.
James was sent home from school last week, right after I got cancer treatment so I was feeling crappy as **** and nearly passed out on the way to collect him. He had a 'new cough' that he had had for 3 weeks prior. Was told to get a covid test by ringing 119, school said government rules. Rang 119 who told me as he had a positive test a few months back there is no need to get him tested again. Said school should know that if going by government guidance. School claims they are following guidance and argued he couldnt go back without a test I couldnt get :bored:
He must also have it.
within the next week or 2 the government are going to have to cave in to public pressure to implement face masks etc, and then come december/jan there is bound to be a mini lockdown because there is no urgency in giving the vulnerable their booster shots

Those people who are against authoritarianism will put two fingers up to them.

I fully expect many to ignore this. And am getting to the stage where I cannot blame them. We cannot just live like that forever.
Maybe there should be focus on giving the vulnerable the shots they need, instead of trying to force them onto everyone else who realistically do NOT need protection as their risks are so small? ****s sake the amount of 'have you had your vaccine?!?!?!! You are killing humanity' texts I have had in the past few months is insane. Yeah '99% of UK vaccinated' makes a lovely looking headline if willywaving at other countries. But the focus is in the wrong place and I don't support another lockdown. If that makes me a twat, so be it

Its a risk for them. They really risk looking very very weak if the majority ignore it this time. I think this might factor into any plans as it looks VERY bad if half your population just blatantly ignores your 'strict rules'

Are cases rising similarly in scotland, because they have covid passports and mandatory face masks. If those measures actually made a difference, their infection rate should be right down

Are cases rising similarly in scotland, because they have covid passports and mandatory face masks. If those measures actually made a difference, their infection rate should be right down
honestly those measures make a difference, as we look over in Germany where there are still quite a lot of people wearing face masks, distancing and having the covid passports for events
and their cases are still very low
unlike my nation Netherlands, new cases numbers have increased with 44% compared to last months, and hospitalisation total here again at over 610 total despite high rate of vaccinations either
Vicky.
20-10-2021, 01:01 PM
Thing is for me, even if those measures help short-term they are simply not sustainable as a solution. We wont eradicate it. And cases will spike each time measures are released. The only way forward I see is to stop the fannying about and focus on the most at risk groups and offering them vaccination. Thats the best thing we can do. We cannot fight nature, and its kinda arrogant to assume we can. and even if we could, should we? All that will happen (in my mind anyway) is something else worse will be borne of our need to play god and eradicate death and disease.

Take your NHS number with you
plus the Card with the 2 Jabs,
go to your nearest centre.
Ask for your 3rd Jab
They could be a number 4 Jab in another 6 months.
Interesting to hear that young people are NOW at significant risk from Covid if they have had no vaccinations ... when did this storyline change ??

That will be as many illnesses cause a cough. But we have been kind of conditioned to hear a cough and think covid. So it seems surprising that everyones testing negative despite a 'covid cough'. When really it shouldnt be at all odd for this to happen so shouldnt even register. But does. Because of how much focus there is.

Smirking Johnson, Prime Minister
has stated the numbers of infection were
predicted to go high.
why would it need to go viral when everyone is aware of what the chances of survival are in the various age groups?
The press and certain SAGE group members have tried to scare people from the very beginning. I've said all along they have a lot to answer for, because they have been frightening the public since day 1. I hope that gets included in any inquiry

A new mutated form of coronavirus that some are calling "Delta Plus" may spread more easily than regular Delta, UK experts now say.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has moved it up into the "variant under investigation" category, to reflect this possible risk.
There is no evidence yet that it causes worse illness.
And scientists are confident that existing vaccines should still work well to protect people.
Although regular Delta still accounts for most Covid infections in the UK, cases of "Delta Plus" or AY.4.2 have been increasing.
Latest official data suggests 6% of Covid cases are of this type.
Experts say it is unlikely to take off in a big way or escape current vaccines. But officials say there is some early evidence that it may have an increased growth rate in the UK compared to Delta.
"This sub-lineage has become increasingly common in the UK in recent months, and there is some early evidence that it may have an increased growth rate in the UK compared to Delta," the UKHSA said.
Unlike Delta, however, it is not yet considered a "variant of concern" - the highest category assigned to variants according to their level of risk.
There are thousands of different types - or variants - of Covid circulating across the world. Viruses mutate all the time, so it is not surprising to see new versions emerge.
AY.4.2 is an offshoot of Delta that includes some new mutations affecting the spike protein, which the virus uses to penetrate our cells.
The mutations - Y145H and A222V - have been found in various other coronavirus lineages since the beginning of the pandemic.
What are the Delta, Gamma, Beta and Alpha Covid variants?
A few cases have also been identified in the US. There had been some in Denmark, but new infections with AY.4.2 have since gone down there.
The UK is already offering booster doses of Covid vaccine to higher risk people ahead of winter, to make sure they have the fullest protection against coronavirus.
There is no suggestion that a new update of the vaccine will be needed to protect against any of the existing variants of the pandemic virus.
Dr Jenny Harries, Chief Executive of the UKHSA, said: "The public health advice is the same for all current variants. Get vaccinated and, for those eligible, come forward for your third or booster dose as appropriate as soon as you are called.
"Continue to exercise caution. Wear a mask in crowded spaces and, when meeting people indoors, open windows and doors to ventilate the room. If you have symptoms take a PCR test and isolate at home until you receive a negative result."

yeah Scotland still has mandatory masks and there is no difference there that i can see. The crucial things are social distancing and working from home. If you are at home, you can't catch covid, it's pretty obvious

to be fair to him he nearly said that, realised it wasnt and cut off from saying it
his point however is still valid
the deaths and hospitalisations are near enough the same as last october, but last october we had loads of restrictions and now we dont. So we are in a much better position than we were last year. Some people just want restrictions, but being realistic, the public just won't do it again, not unless the death rate starts to rocket. There is just no reason to do it yet

Some people won't accept that this is happening until they get the confirmation from the mainstream media, only then will they accept it as true, until then it's just a conspiracy theory.
This isn't just happening all over Europe, it's happening all over the World, well, at least in the places where there are still glimmers of freedom.

Belgium returning to stricter measures, with the face mask compulsory and working from home advice
https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/en/2021/10/26/covid-emergency-cst-in-flanders-masks-and-homeworking-are-back/
in Flanders that is at least
Belgium is introducing new measures to combat the rise in coronavirus cases. Starting 1 November the Covid Safe Ticket (CST) will be required in hospitality and gyms in Flanders. Face coverings become obligatory in public indoor spaces across the nation, while homeworking is once again highly recommended.
Belgium’s consultative committee grouping the country’s many governments that has the final say on corona measures met earlier than planned today. The challenge was to come up with a raft of measures to stem the rise in corona cases. “Nobody can ignore the figures” PM Alexander De Croo told a news conference.
The CST is being introduced across Flanders. The CST is the Belgian version of the EU Digital Covid Certificate and is available via the Covid Safe BE app. With the CST you can show you are fully vaccinated, recently tested negative or have antibodies through recent illness. It will become mandatory to show this in Flemish hospitality and in gyms starting 1 November. The obligation already exists in Brussels. The Walloon government earlier decided to introduce the measure of its own accord. Until now the CST has only been required to join events in Flanders.
The CST will in future also be required at smaller events: starting from 200 people indoors and 400 outdoors.
Starting Friday 29 October face coverings are mandatory in indoor public settings: in shops, shopping malls, care centres, concert halls, sports centres, libraries and at faith gatherings.
Face coverings are not required where the CST has to be shown.
In hospitality and at gyms staff must wear face coverings.
Homeworking is once again highly recommended. Only if it is impossible to work from home due to the nature of the work or service you provide should you attend your place of work.
Test centres are to stay open all winter. Contact tracing capacity will be maintained.
The population at large will be offered a third booster jab if it is scientifically proved that this is meaningful.
The consultative committee has also declared an epidemiological state of emergency for three months. This activates the new pandemic law that provides a legal basis for today’s decisions. Parliament will now vote within two weeks.
.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has had to miss the Budget and Prime Minister's Questions after testing positive for coronavirus.
As leader of the opposition, he had been due respond to the chancellor's statement on government spending plans.
Instead the shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves is taking his place at the despatch box in the House of Commons.
Earlier, Ed Miliband, Labour's shadow environment secretary, replaced Sir Keir at Prime Minister's Questions.

Infections down dramatically over last 7 days !!

the modelling shows there will be a very dramatic fall in infections, i think we just need to wait and see what happens. Certainly, if infections keep dropping there will be no need to even think about plan B
However, schools are on their half term break, as most infections are in that age group and they are not being tested during the break, the infection rate will fall due to that.
Too many variables to be sure

You can still wear a mask there no law to say your can't but its up to individuals
Lockdown will happen again for sure this winter the only question is how bad will the government let it get before there act this time

Me too arista.
The point of the mask too is if someone has covid and doesn't know or don't have any symptoms.
Then they can obviously infect others.
Them wearing a mask helps prevent them passing it to others.
So for me, in indoor settings such as Supermarkets, shops and public transport.
At the very least masks should be compulsory for everyone.
In those settings.
I still carry on with mask wearing and even social distancing too.

https://nltimes.nl/2021/11/02/cabinet-expands-covid-pass-system-even-wider-expected-face-mask-rules-explained
Netherlands: summary of last nights covid press conference (which was watched by 5 million people)
Coronavirus passes will be required to enter a wider variety of locations in the Netherlands starting on November 6. Additionally, the use of face masks will be required in higher education facilities and all publicly accessible buildings which do not require a coronavirus pass.
Those who do not adhere to face mask rules may be fined 95 euros, according to a statement from the Cabinet. No fine was specified for patrons evading the access pass rules.
The new policy shift was discussed by Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Health Minister Hugo de Jonge during a press conference on Tuesday. It was adopted based on advice received from the Outbreak Management Team. "Some people are against all measures. A cautious group wants many measures. Most of us are somewhere in between," Rutte said. "It is understandable that we struggle with that in our country."
Weekly Covid-19 hospitalizations have tripled in one month, with 1,152 patients admitted during the past seven days, according to the LCPS. There were 1,312 people with the disease in treatment on Tuesday, a figure which doubled compared to two weeks earlier. The average number of daily coronavirus infections has increased from 1,672 a month ago to 7,740 on Tuesday, according to raw data from the RIVM.
The situation will be re-evaluated on November 12. At that time, the coronavirus access pass system could be expanded even further. "That means a further distinction between vaccinated and unvaccinated. Unvaccinated people will then have to show that they have been tested in more places," Rutte stated.
He said he hoped that the hospitality industry will not need to be restricted with tighter operating hours, or closed altogether.
Access passes needed to enter many more venues
The access passes are most often displayed as QR codes in the CoronaCheck app. Temporary codes are distributed to people who tested negative for coronavirus within 24 hours of entering a location where the code is required. Fixed codes are given to people who have either recently recovered from an infection, or who are considered to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
The QR codes will be required before spending time on a cafe's outdoor terrace, all events including those where seating is assigned, professional and amateur sports competitions and practices where people older than 18 take part, and also all organized arts and culture rehearsals for people 18 years of age or older.
"We know that the vaccine still works well against transmission. Not 100 percent, but that is also not possible," De Jonge said. The system is most safe for people who are fully vaccinated because their likelihood of experiencing serious symptoms of Covid-19 is far lower. "For whom is the risk greatest? For people who have not been vaccinated."
The current requirements for access passes will remain in place. That includes entering the indoor space of any bar, cafe, restaurant, club, or casino. They will also be necessary for museums, cinemas, music venues, theaters, conferences, trade fairs, and events without a fixed seat.
Cabinet ministers are also investigating if employers can ask employees for the QR codes at the workplace if customers and visitors are also required to use the system, such as in the hospitality sector. Other sectors are also being considered. They could also become necessary to enter non-essential retail locations, amusement parks, and zoos.
Those who need to get tested in order to receive their access pass will still be able to do so for free, the Cabinet said.
Face mask use expanded substantially starting this week
Face masks will be required in all indoor public spaces. This includes all supermarkets, retailers, libraries, and amusement parks. It also includes all public transportation facilities, such as stations, shops, platforms, and stops, and also everywhere in an airport.
The masks will again be required for people at vocational colleges, applied sciences universities, and research universities. The requirement is that people where the masks when moving around at these locations, but the masks may be removed when people sit down.
Additionally, face masks will also be required at businesses requiring close contact between the service provider and a customer. Both will need a face mask under the new rules. Sex work has been excluded from this requirement
The masks are not required to be worn where a coronavirus access pass is necessary for entry.
De Jonge reiterated that by far the majority of people living in the Netherlands is vaccinated against Covid-19. "We have deliberately chosen measures which are protective, but which limit as little as possible for the largest group: the people who have been vaccinated," he said.
Work from home, avoid rush hour, and get tested
The government is again stressing that people have to work from home more frequently to avoid physical personal contacts. "Work at home for at least half of work hours," is the new advice from the Cabinet, with efect from Wednesday. Those headed to the workplace should try to avoid commuting during rush hour, as should people traveling in their spare time.
"Your own behavior remains crucial. The most important thing is: stay at home with symptoms and get yourself tested. Even if you have been vaccinated," Rutte said.
"People with symptoms must stay at home," as long as symptoms persist, and even after a coronavirus test, De Jonge said. "With a broken leg you should not drive, even if you have a driver's license."
The other basic coronavirus measures should also be followed. These include keeping a safe distance from others, avoiding handshakes, washing hands frequently, sneezing into the elbow, and sufficiently ventilating indoor spaces.

https://nltimes.nl/2021/11/03/new-covid-rules-unmanageable-says-sports-groups-hospitality
Football association KNVB and sports umbrella organization NOC*NSF called on parliament to reject the Cabinet's plan and keep sports at amateur associations accessible for everyone without a coronavirus access pass. From Saturday, anyone 18 and older who enters a sports complex must show the QR code proving that they are vaccinated, recovered from Covid-19, or tested negative for the coronavirus.
"The plans of the Cabinet for amateur football are practically impossible to implement," said the KNVB. "Volunteers are worth gold but also scarce. Where do you get volunteers who will check QR codes seven days a week for all athletes and visitors at an accommodation? Other sectors have professionals who can check visitors at the only entrance. We have volunteers who will have to do the same at a very open sports complex with often multiple entrances."
The football union asked for understanding. "Amateur football has gone along with all the coronavirus measures, but this is just a step too far and cannot be enforced. The term for the measure to take effect next weekend is completely unfeasible. Will associations that cannot take this step in time receive a fine? It all leads to great unrest and puts a heavy burden on associations, volunteers, and football players."
The catering industry wants the Cabinet to come up with extra coronavirus support for bars and restaurants. That the coronavirus access pass will also be mandatory on terraces is another hard blow for catering entrepreneurs, said hospitality association KHN who spoke of "symbol politics."
KHN chairman Rober Willemsen said that the Cabinet could not substantiate why the mandatory QR check is now also necessary on terraces. "Incomprehensible, since it does have a major financial impact for our members."
This obligation would exclude some guests from the hospitality industry. And the check costs companies extra staff. According to the KHN, it will soon be tens of millions of euros in additional costs in the current quarter and possibly hundreds of millions in lost turnover.
Shopkeepers are fine with the re-implementation of face masks in stores to reduce the number of coronavirus infections. But they call the possible introduction of coronavirus access passes in shops "absurd and pointless." It will lead to discussions at the shop door, has no support, and is not applied by any other country, retail sector organization INretail said in response to the Cabinet's coronavirus press conference.
INretail stressed that shops are not a source of contamination. According to the organization, the coronavirus access pass is intended for places where you are within 1.5 meters of other people for 15 minutes or longer. A shop visit usually takes less time. Checking the access pass will also require tens of thousands of extra employees who are impossible to find due to the labor shortage, the organization said.
INretail also pointed out that access passes are not required by any European country to enter a store. "After an experiment in some federal states, Germany concluded that it is unworkable," the organization said.

Germany new infection record today
33.949 new cases, the last record was at 33.777 in december last year
health minister Jens Spahn says this is a pandemic among the unvaccinated although some of double vaccinated are also among those in hospital
Germany's percentage of vaccinated is 77.5% almost no longer increasing, still Spahn wants to go ahead with the booster jabs to give more protection to those who need the extra protection among the double vaccinated whom are in risk group
those who aren't in risk group, isn't hugely important as those in risk group

Have we got case numbers for today yet?
We did a random straw poll today in one of our classes of 34 students.
4 were off with Covid and 26 of the 30 present have already had Covid ( at least once )
So that’s 30 out of 34 which equates to slightly over 88% !!
Not sure whether to be optimistic or pessimistic
