They have always said that the vaccines are 90% effective in preventing hospitalisation and > 98% in preventing death. No vaccine is ever 100% effective

Yes whilst that’s true , my point though is - why are they omitting the most important details from the warning .. just seems odd .

Surely if they really want people to be more careful they should add that you can still get extremely poorly and die EVEN if you have had both jabs .

New NHS data suggests 23% of people with Covid infections in hospital were admitted for other reasons.

Hospitals in England have released more detail than usual about the number of Covid patients in their care.

The government denies NHS pressures had previously been overstated by counting all patients testing positive.

All patients are routinely tested for Covid upon admission, whatever their reason for coming to hospital.

The Department for Health and Social Care said this measure was still "the most important" because of the impact Covid-positive patients have on NHS capacity and workforce pressure.

This allows hospitals to provide the most appropriate care and use the right infection control measures to help stop the spread of the virus.

Patients with Covid should be treated away from non-infected patients.

But critics say until now, published hospital data may not have reflected the true toll of Covid on the NHS.

The government says the new data will help scientists to track to what extent vaccines are reducing severe Covid.

NHS England began collecting more detailed hospital Covid data in June 2021, at the request of Prof Keith Willett, NHS Strategic Incident Director.

The latest statistics, for 27 July 2021, show:

5,021 beds are occupied by patients who tested positive for Covid
3,855 of those patients are being treated primarily for Covid-19
This signifies that 1,166 are being treated primarily for something other than the virus
Some of these 'other' patients may have conditions that have been made worse by Covid or to which Covid has contributed, says NHS England.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: "The Health and Social Care Secretary asked for this data to help us better understand the impact of the vaccine programme on stopping people infected with Covid requiring hospital treatment.

"The total number of patients with Covid - whether that is primarily what they are being treated for or not - remains a crucial indicator of pressure on the NHS, since all those patients require careful infection control including quarantining and PPE."

Prof Carl Heneghan, from the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine at Oxford University, said the change was long overdue.

"We have been crying out for it for nearly 18 months," Prof Heneghan said.

He said the data suggested, historically, tens of thousands of patients who were counted in hospital data as Covid cases may have been people who were admitted for other health reasons.

"High quality, accurate data is essential for healthcare decision making. Including the NHSE data in the daily updates will facilitate policy informed by the actual number of hospital admissions for Covid."

Prof Sir David Spiegelhalter, from the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication at the University of Cambridge, said: "The main role for hospitalisation statistics is to indicate the pressure on the NHS.

"Patients with Covid have to be treated in a resource-intensive way, whether Covid was the primary reason for their admission or not, and even if they caught it in hospital.

"Therefore the total number in hospital with Covid seems an appropriate overall summary statistic, although this new breakdown does provide additional information."

no that's not what it means. It means that they were admitted to hospital for a gall bladder operation or whatever and when they were admitted it was found they also had covid ... but they could easily have been asymptomatic, it wasnt the reason for their admission

Again in theory yes. Like if you had AIDS or were completely immunosuppressed with cancer drugs or something. Other than that, the main factor in infection is viral dose and the viral dose you’ll get from someone more than 2m away outdoors is tiny. Sense of smell is INSANELY sensitive, compared to the viral dose needed for infection. Particles disperse extremely quickly outdoors.

It’s true of indoors because the longer you’re in an indoor space with someone (with poor ventilation), the higher concentration builds up in the air you’re breathing.

Essentially, you’re more likely to catch Covid from someone in the same indoor space as you sat 10m away than you are to catch it from someone outdoors 5m away (effectively impossible unless they sneeze directly at you).

The idea that “if you can smell something you could catch Covid from that same something” is ludicrous: you can smell something like a barbecue cooking, or weed, from 50+ metres away. Probably cigarette smoke, if enough people are smoking. You’re not catching Covid from a garden party two streets away.

no it means if you went into hospital to have a baby and you tested positive for covid you were added to the numbers in hospital with covid figures, so those figures are massively screwed, they can surely separate those who went in with covid and those who went in to fix a broken leg but tested positive when admitted but are asymptomatic and not unwell

Have to admit it's increasingly looking like the UK's covid data is only useful for identifying trends, the "flat numbers" are very loose in terms of accuracy. That said... identifying trends is the only actually useful data anyway, the rest is just to look at and say "Oh nooo".

we are now 2 weeks after freedom day. It's pretty difficult to know whats going on with infections and hospital/death data is probably a month away before freedom day onward will be included. So all we can do is wait and see. It certainly seems to be pretty flat data at the moment

I doubt it. I've seen a number of medical professionals talking about testing being reduced by at least 20% over the last few weeks. Can't be verified at the moment, but I think there's more information to come out about the current figures.

Yes , apart from anything else there were nearly 18 million LFD tests done every week until 10-14 days ago that’s dropped to ZERO over the school holidays.

There are 8.9 million pupils attending 24,400 schools in England in 2020/21. This includes state-funded and independent schools. 20.8% are known to be eligible for free school meals, representing 1.74 million pupils. This has increased from 17.3% in January 2020.17 Jun 2021

We are being tricked into a situation that was discussed at the beginning of the pandemic.
One that involves the non vulnerable getting on with things whilst the vulnerable, self isolate.

The numbers, to me(cherie, thanks for posting both weeks x) they show a constant number of new cases, and has done for weeks now. But the deaths are hovering the same as well.

For me that's very telling that the governments of the world are now trying to control us with gloom..gloom behind the mask...take them off, you are a symptomatic..

So take them off in the pubs n the clubs, but pop them on when you see an elderly person at a bus stop, waiting on the same bus as you, make her feel safe, cause shes nervous.

But the young, and the vibrant oldies, just get on with it, lives to short.

Do not be controlled by hocus pocus stuff....TAKE THE JABS THOUGH.

The boris jab is very important in making this work

But.
Hand on heart, if you think you are vulnerable and you dont have strong beliefs in God. Do you feel safe when you go out!, or do you feel much safer indoors?, sort of self isolating yourself.

Cause I'm doing a bit off both and I don't know where I stand.

Researchers behind the React trial, which has been tracking the disease throughout the pandemic, said that even if double-jabbed people come into contact with someone who has Covid-19, only one in 25 (3.84%) will go on to catch it themselves.

And cases are generally milder among double-jabbed people who do get infected, they added.

Hope she comes through it alright Slim - my dad's sister has pretty bad COPD and had it about 6 months back and wasn't too bad. I think it can cause complications in severe cases but it doesn't necessarily make it more likely that it will be a severe case, if that makes sense. Especially if vaxxed.

Also my wife's 91-year-old grandma who has been on end-of-life care for over a year caught it whilst in hospital for regular pneumonia from other causes , and came through it OK.

Large-scale events and exhibitions are being cancelled or postponed in China’s capital, Beijing, as cases of the coronavirus continue to grow in the country.

The Beijing government has today stressed events taking place in August should be cancelled, and public places such as parks, cinemas and libraries should now start limiting the number of visitors they have.

The Beijing International Film Festival was set to go ahead on 14 August, but has now confirmed the event has been postponed. A new date has not yet been set.

A number of universities in the capital, including the prestigious Tsinghua University, have also announced they are delaying the start of their new terms.

Part of the city is in lockdown, and many inbound transport links have been suspended

Two weeks ago, cases of Covid-19 were detected at an international airport in the eastern city of Nanjing.

Cases of the virus have now been detected in 17 of China’s provincial-level regions. Many cases are the Delta variant, and so earlier this week, the central government urged against non-essential travel.

Covid: Fifth of England hospital admissions aged 18-34

[One in five people being admitted to hospital
in England with Covid is aged between 18 and 34,
the new chief executive of NHS England has said.
In her first major interview, Amanda Pritchard
told the BBC that about 1,000 young adults were
currently "really unwell" in hospital.
She said it was "so important" people came
forward to get vaccinated.

She added the level of young adults being admitted
to hospital was four times higher than the peak last winter.]

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-58095503

From what I see and hear .. youngsters just don’t care about / believe in Covid19 ..

I don’t see many taking any kind of precautions whatsoever - no wonder there’s so many of them getting infected

week on week the numbers in hospital are going down at the moment which will eventually have an effect on the death rate.

I think the numbers are going to fluctuate constantly, but i don't think we can really take anything from them yet. Lets see what happens when the schools go back

Many High schools and Academies have been doing both nostrils for ages ( rather than the more awkward/unpleasant throat swab) . Seems better in many cases as most people don’t do the throat one properly anyway apparently..

They only use the standard LFD tests though

2.077 new cases, last 7 days average keeps decreasing (now at 2.585 positive tests, 20% below the average of the week before)

very surprising and what was noticeable that many people are letting themselves get tested and out of those 11% are indeed tested positive

hospitalisations increased slightly

690 total hospitalisations

212 total on ICU/ventilators

2 new deaths

decrease of new cases is going slower than the weeks before

last 7 days it went down with 14.3%, while the week before it went down with 43.8%

in Hospitals, new patient numbers are decreasing, week before they did see a increase though

there are more patients on ICU's than week before, 132 last 7 days over 125 the week before

in almost all regions the number of infections went down or levelled off, and most infections are among age group 20-24

Hospitilisations and ventilators seems to be very static or even decreasing slightly more than 3 weeks from restrictions ending. Seems Boris was right all along :clap1:

people claimed it’d exponentially grow throughout the summer with restrictions ending. He knew Summer was the best time to reopen and he’s been proved right, he’s done a good job in 2021 (bar potential vaccine passports)

I’m more concerned about fans back in sports grounds .

Infections seem to be climbing slowly after the restrictions were lifted now we will have jam packed stadiums with no mask wearers.

Manchester has had the highest infection date more or less throughout all this nightmare plus we’ve had the most recorded Covid deaths ... The infections are increasing in every part of Gtr Manchester yet as we speak there’s a packed old Trafford ground ..https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210814/33d4512dc650a03e42a313a20cb51076.jpg

Netherlands: November 1st is target date to end restrictions, and social distancing may be relaxed in september but not certain yet, since that might still change in a week before that planned press conference they will receive new advice from the OMT

i think the people at the football will already have been out and about. Also, if you look at that infection table for the areas in manchester, bolton is at the bottom of the list, and it was 1 of the areas with the highest infection a few weeks ago. The vaccine helps settle each area down fairly quickly, which is something that just didn't happen last year

also with the usual ''negative pcr test, proof of vaccination, or proof of having recovered from covid recently''

the stewards were the ones who had to wear face masks, and the commentators during the interviews post-match did stick to social distancing from any players or both teams's managers
