In the US she'd probably be arrested for that comment tbh, definitely intended to be threatening. An empty threat but still intended that way.

It seems highly unlikely at this point, not for decades, anyway.

BBC Vicky asks about Plan B.
if the delta variant hadn't appeared we would have been back to a pretty normal life by now. The vaccines are very effective against the early variants which they were designed for. We now need to wait on a vaccine that is more effective against delta and future variants. I think next year there will be V2 of the vaccines which should help a lot

See it's things like the bit on bold that make me start believing in Alf's theories :joker: ... sometimes the timing has seemed "convenient" for want of a better word. I think the part I find most confusing is that we had a sort of "flurry" of new strains being announced leading up to Delta becoming the dominant strain ... ... ... and since then we've heard nothing of new strains. It doesn't actually make a huge amount of sense.

There better not be another lockdown. Either get vaccinated or **** off. Although we could still catch covid and die even when vaccinated. But then we could catch cancer while we live a healthy lifestyle and still die. Let us just live our lives now. Ta x

Why should people bow to the whims of deeply stupid anti-vaxxers?
If you don't want the vaccine (and you aren't medically exempt), stay the **** home while everyone else who is responsible and has some empathy for those around them get back to living their lives.
Why should vaccinated people be left out just because of idiots that deny science and are stupid enough to believe that Bill Gates is trying to bug them?
If you're gonna be an anti-vaxxer, stick to your ****ing guns and accept that the price of not getting vaccinated is that people won't want to be around a pro-disease moron that's a danger to everyone they encounter. Don't expect the world to cave to the stupidity of anti-vaxxers. Scum, every last one of them.

Very extreme - let people make their own choices.
I am double vaxxed but being vaccinated is a choice and I respect other people’s choice to not be vaccinated.
The vaccine doesn’t prevent the spread of the virus, it just reduces it - you are more likely to catch it from a vaccinated adult regardless considering the antibodies don’t last long and 85% of the population are vaccinated, even with a reduced spread that 85% are going to spread it. Blaming everything on people not vaccinating is not fair - Covid is here to stay regardless of vaccination status

Why should we all have to lockdown?
Surely the best way is to make the people most at risk of hospitalizations be the ones forced into another lockdown and another round of jabs and mask wearing.
Let the rest of us get on with our lives ffs.

Thing is Parmy, I’m pretty sure with the latest wave you fall into that category… it’s been lots of older working-age adults this time. Which on the plus side suggests that vaccination has been quite successful in stopping deaths amongst the elderly (and is likely why death rates haven’t soared like they did in winter)

Well I've had one dose of the vaccine 8 weeks ago, so will be getting my 2nd at the end of the week, so I should be sooped up to the max for the winter months.
I think I will be fine, like I have been in a face to face job for the duration of the pandemic.

Honestly masks need to be considered a bonus extra little piece of protection. They just don't make that big of a difference. We shouldn't stop wearing them because "every little helps" but it's fairly conclusive at this point that masks do not stop spread.

They pretty much were being sent in to risk their lives for the patients. That is why the NHS staff and front line staff were hit so hard. Luckily for us, they didn't all feel like you did and felt they had a duty to continue providing care for the seriously ill and dying.
The ones doing TikTok videos were keeping their morale up and probably were not amongst the ones who had lost colleagues.
You can deny it as much as you want Alf, and in some ways I am glad you have not been directly affected by Covid and have not lost anyone you know. My colleague at work lost a friend - a 37 year old mother with no under lying health conditions, my 10 year old son's best friend's dad has been left with pretty debilitating lung condition after spending 3 weeks in ICU at 40, I have lost a client at work who was in hospital for a non-covid related issue when he contracted it. Thankfully my family have been spared and I thank my lucky stars for that.

Thankfully my family have been spared and I thank my lucky stars for that.I ain't denying anything, I said on here that someone I know is said to have died of the virus. I'm not gonna question that, I'll take the families word for it at let them mourn in peace.
I don't deny there's a virus and I couldn't also say there definitely is.
My arguments is more with our liberties being stamped on for a virus with an over 99% recovery rate. I don't consent to that.

I think they have had a tendency to view it as simple maths rather than factoring in social statistics… if you look at it as “the basic maths” then one person infects X people, who infect X people, and so on in an infinite scope but that’s not really how we exist as a society. For the most part, people operate in “bubbles” naturally. Those bubbles can be quite large (tens of thousands even) but they do have limits, where eventually people just aren’t interacting with many people outside their “pocket of people”. So when it spreads outwards it’s more like an “overspill” than an explosion.
No idea if that made much sense.

We can probably get rid of judges and jury's now, just let Zuckerberg have the power to decide what's true and false. It's a much better system than people getting their day in court.

As it happens, I do think it's ridiculously sloppy work, I've seen similar spelling errors on other govt. websites (e.g. car tax, HMRC) in the past. On official government sites. There's just no excuse really, the people building the sites should be double and triple checking, especially when it's something like this that will actually cause confusion.
That said, I did send a quitre sensitive email from work on Friday, double and triple checked that it all looked good and my tone was exactly how I wanted to come across, sent it, then realised that instead of opening it with "Dear _____", I had written "Dead ______"

Their analysis of medical data suggests that boys aged 12 to 15, with no
underlying medical conditions, are four to six times more likely to be diagnosed
with vaccine-related myocarditis than ending up in hospital with Covid over a
four-month period.
Saul Faust, professor of paediatric immunology and infectious diseases at the
University of Southampton, who was not involved in the work, said the
findings appeared to justify the cautious approach taken on teenage vaccines
by the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccines and Immunisation.
In the latest study, which has yet to be peer-reviewed
How reliable the data is and whether similar numbers could be seen in the
UK if healthy 12 to 15-year-olds are vaccinated are unclear

This time last year, cases were climbing quickly. Now, they are coming down.
The Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine is "safe, well tolerated" and produces a "robust" antibody immune response in children aged five to 11, according to the findings of a US trial.
The researchers plan to submit the results to regulators to seek approval for vaccinating children younger than 12, the current age limit.
More than 2,000 children took part and were given two small doses of vaccine.
Results in children under five are expected soon.
The findings, distributed in a press release, are the first of their kind for children under 12 - a trial of the Moderna vaccine in six to 11-year-olds is ongoing.

To be fair, we already vaccinate against a few things that pose little real threat to children, like chicken pox. German measles (Rubella, the R in the MMR) is only particularly dangerous for pregnant women and is a fairly mild childhood ailment. So this isn’t without precedent. The thing that makes it different I suppose is the evidence suggesting that vaccine immunity isn’t particularly long term when compared to the regular vaccine schedule for kids.

To be fair he's not really wrong, if you tack "There'll be a global pandemic that kills millions" onto the front of that ... in 2019 it would have looked even MORE like a conspiracy theory.
I actually remember the "rumblings" of a "killer virus in China" on sites like Reddit, which started a few weeks before anything really started hitting the mainstream news (I remember it being sort of drowned out by the Aus wildfires news, so roughly Jan 2020). Most people thought it was "above top secret"-style nonsense. In fact I started to get a bit worried about it as soon as the first UK cases cropped up and was properly ringing the doomsday bell at my wife when she was like "these things never come to anything", I was ranting like a paranoid loon about how "it's different this time, this is BIG, LIKE REALLY BIG :omgno::omgno::omgno:" and she thought I was losing the plot for a good while, until first lockdown hit, then she was like "Oh god what is happening" but by that point I had already calmed down about it and was like "meh it's just the end of days, I mentioned ages ago.".

To be fair he's not really wrong, if you tack "There'll be a global pandemic that kills millions" onto the front of that ... in 2019 it would have looked even MORE like a conspiracy theory.

Yeah I remember driving when I heard on the radio about people getting covid in China. My first thought was if that got out it would be bad and I had a feeling it wouldn't be long before it hit this country. In fact look on the very first page of the very first Corona thread I was so scared it would reach work at my uni as Chinese students would be flying in. I expressed my concerns to my supervisor and she said it's not a problem here. A few weeks later it all hit off!

I'm liking that things have eased a lot. It's pretty much back to normal(of course the pandemic is still a big issue so we need to keep safe too) But do we think it will continue like that or are we going into a crisis real soon with winter coming. Or will we be ok? Will there be a proper Christmas week this time??

There was a report of a lockdown happening in Oct/Nov, can't remember which so I think it'll likely happen. I do think that masks will be compulsory again soon (and welcome it, tbh).
Utter nonsense.

I remember thinking it would be another panic that would be over in a few weeks back when it was making news in China.
I do too, remember reading those first few threads that were cropping up on reddit etc. and thinking "mountain out of a molehill as usual". I also remember the exact moment that something about it struck me as "not quite right" and the sinking feeling that the **** was about to hit the fan... but strangely I can't remember what exactly triggered that. Just that I was reading something and had this sudden chill of "actually something about this feels different". :worry:
when the poop was hitting the fan and the number of infections started to rise in March 2020, the public were begging the government to shut schools and lock people down so it wasn't forced upon them, they were demanding it .... some people have very short memories when they want to create their own narrative
True, but by leaving it out, Alf is making it sound like we're in some tyrannical regime when it's literally just measures to curb a global pandemic.
When you consider that 10 percent of prescribed drugs that have gone through years of testing, cause more harm than good to the users, for someone to not want to put a fully tested vaccine into their arm should be understandable.

the ventilator number continue to go down, which logically will reflect a lower number of deaths too. I wonder how many experts predicted that the numbers would go down as we entered autumn

A man suspected of shooting dead a cashier at a German petrol station has been linked to Covid-19 conspiracy theorists and the far right.
The cashier, a 20-year-old student employee, was shot after a row over face masks, in what is thought to be the first killing linked to German Covid rules.
Researchers believe the suspect, named only as Mario N, was a far-right supporter and Covid denier.
Chancellor Angela Merkel has condemned the "heinous" killing.
Prosecutors said the killer had initially tried to buy beer at the petrol station in the western town of Idar-Oberstein on Saturday, but left after the cashier refused to serve him as he was without a mask.
An hour and a half later the man came back, this time wearing a mask. He got into another argument, pulled down his mask and shot the cashier in the head.
The 49-year-old suspect handed himself in to police on Sunday. The victim has not been named.

Anybody is perfectly free to be a Covid denier. They don't care about the person shot dead, that dead person is now being used to push the globalist agenda.

Alf, honestly, seek help.I'm perfectly fine, still the same person I was before Covid started. I'm not the one calling my fellow citizens "scum" and saying they need to be deprogrammed and isolated from society. I'm still on the Western civilisation side, not the East German side.

No, you're just the person who saw a story about a twenty year old being murdered in cold blood by an anti-vaxxer and your first instinct was to get defensive and spout off more conspiracy theories.I wasn't defensive, I was on the offence against the propaganda.

You mean you were on the offensive against the fact that a far right, anti-vax extremist killed a guy just out of his teens just because the victim had to enforce a law.
That's not propaganda, that's just facts. This person was killed by an extremist and you're so deep into crazytown with all these conspiracies that you can't even bring yourself to acknowledge this story as real. You're deeply delusional, you've lost touch with reality and you think you can deny reality whenever you wish and you seriously need help. They use words like "Far-right anti-vaxers" to try to create monsters for people to hate. Why don't they just report what happened? Some guy shot somebody because he wouldn't serve him beer. Lock the criminal up and let the family mourn in peace. No, they need to create their working class monsters and want to pin this crime on innocent people.

Except that's not the whole truth, that's the narrative you want to push because the truth makes your craziness look exactly like craziness.
The killer didn't kill the victim for denying him beer, he killed him because the victim couldn't serve him if he didn't have a mask which is why he came back with a mask and then took it off to kill him.
No amount of fist banging tantrums or denial of reality will change the fact that a far right anti-vaxxer killed someone just out of their teens for telling him he had to wear a mask. You see, it makes you think I'm crazy.
Yet you are most definitely the aggressor.

Oxford vaccine creator: There's nowhere left for Covid to go to mutate into a
deadly variant
Covid is unlikely to mutate into a much deadlier variant because there “aren’t
many places for the virus to go”, the lead scientist behind the Oxford vaccine
has said.
Dame Sarah Gilbert said that viruses tended to become less virulent over time
as they spread through a population which was becoming more immune.

the numbers in hospital and on ventilation are going downward at least for now, and that will ultimately reduce numbers of deaths, so maybe 16+ range being vaccinated is having a positive effect now
I can feel the warm weather going now, the cold is a coming. Maybe flu season will return this year, it seemed to go on holiday last year.
