Netherlands: police take 19 people into custody of the hague riots

Police reported on Sunday, they arrested 19 people during the riots on Saturday evening in The Hague. Earlier reports stated authorities took seven people into custody. The 19 people taken into custody were arrested for insult, public assault, disturbing the peace and refusing to follow police orders.

The riots occurred in the vicinity of Vaillantlaan after social media posts called for people to gather in The Hague and Katwijk. Police called for rioters to disperse around 10:30 p.m. A group of people refused to leave and confronted police, according to officers. An emergency order was issued for the Schilderswijk and Transvaal.

The remaining rioters set fire to items, including a garbage container. One person threw a stone through the window of a passing ambulance transporting a patient to hospital.

Rioters also destroyed traffic lights and pelted police with fireworks and stones. In some places, police dogs and officers on horseback were present. Five officers were injured during the riot, one of whom suffered a knee injury and a concussion while arresting someone.

Police restored order around 1 a.m.

Riots had also erupted on Friday night in Rotterdam, leading to 51 arrests and three people injured by gunshots. Minister of Justice Ferd Grapperhaus spoke on Saturday with Rotterdam firefighters who were on duty Friday evening. The firefighters said they had never experienced anything similar.

Rotterdam police chief Fred Westerbeke was angry about rumors that had been spreading about a casualty during the riots on Friday. "Creating fake news to start riots again that goes too far," Westerbeke said on WNL on Sunday. "The rumors simply aren't true."

In the Roermond neighborhood, De Kemp, dozens of young people caused unrest by bombarding police with heavy fireworks on Saturday. Police arrested 12 young people. An emergency order will be in force in Roermond until Monday morning. There were also disturbances in Bunschoten. According to a police spokesperson, about twenty young people set off fireworks in the Utrecht town and threw objects at a police car. The group eventually fled. Police did not arrest anyone.

Rioters also took to the streets in Stein and Urk. Grapperhaus spoke to the mayors of the affected areas and praised them for preventing them from letting the violence escalate further.

Netherlands: nearly 30 arrests at third night of rioting in multiple cities

For the third consecutive night, there were riots in multiple Dutch cities on Sunday. Around 30 people were arrested for things like vandalism, arson, and lighting fireworks. Emergency ordinances applied in multiple cities, giving the police more room to take action and impose restrictions, NOS reports.

In Roosendaal, rioters set fire to a primary school, set off heavy fireworks, and a car caught fire. The police said they arrested 15 people for disturbing public order.

Many police officers were on duty in the center of Enschede after an online call to riot in the city. An emergency ordinance was in effect between 8:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. As far as is known, the police arrested five people for vandalism and lighting fireworks.

Groningen had an emergency ordinance in effect until 5:00 a.m. after an online call to riot following a demonstration against the coronavirus restrictions. The protest was peaceful, but there were incidents afterward. According to the municipality, rioters vandalized a storefront, dragged away bicycles, set fires here and there, and damaged a bus shelter. At least three people were arrested.

Dozens of young people gathered in Tilburg to set off fireworks, damaging multiple trash cans. Exactly how many young people were involved is not clear, a police spokesperson said to Omroep Brabant. "I hear noises from between 30 and 100 people. The truth will be somewhere in the middle." As far as is known, the police made no arrests.

Emergency ordinances were also in effect in Roermond and Stein after riots on Friday. There the police carried out preventive searches. Five people were arrested for narcotics possession.

Earlier on Sunday, there were also incidents around football matches in the Eredivisie. The police arrested 24 people at the Kuip in Rotterdam for throwing fireworks at the police. Three people were arrested in front of the Cambuur Stadium in Leeuwarden for setting off fireworks.

"The way in which rioters wreaked havoc tonight is criminal," Leeuwarden mayor Sybrand Buma said to NOS. "Respect for the police and fire brigade, who acted under difficult circumstances.

------------------------
earlier covid press conference than expected due to covid infection numbers remaining very high

The Outbreak Management Team asked the Cabinet to hold another coronavirus press conference before the one planned for December 3, sources around the OMT confirmed to De Ondernemer.

With structurally over 20,000 coronavirus infections per day, "code black" approaching at hospitals, and the increasing social unrest about this, the "message needs to be clearer, a press conference over two weeks is irresponsible," the sources said.

It is unlikely that the Cabinet will announce new measures at the earlier press conference because it is too soon to determine whether the partial lockdown implemented on November 13 had the desired results.

"The message must be much clearer. The why. The urgency does not seem to get through. Code Black is threatening, and what that means must not only be explained to the Netherlands by Diederik Gommers in a talk show," De Ondernemer's sources said.

"Code black" refers to a situation in hospitals where there are not enough beds available to treat everyone who needs it. In that case, doctors will have to decide who gets treated and who gets sent home.

If more measures are taken, they will likely either involve the 2G coronavirus access policy or a harsher lockdown. With the 2G policy, only people who are vaccinated or have recovered from the coronavirus can get access to things like restaurants and events. A negative test will no longer suffice.

Its because its transmits more easily in warm conditions when people turn the heating on, close the windows and mix more indoors. Like all the other coronaviruses. Nothing new really....its now cold, flu and covid season

There is a huge difference north and south of the border for some reason, I was also in a Tesco yesterday and didn’t see anyone without a mask on.

Interestingly though, the reusable/fabric masks seem to have gone “out of fashion” and I now mostly see people wearing the blue NHS style disposable ones.

I mean yes and no, technically they are legally mandatory but one of the exemptions is just "finding it distressing", so any anti-masker can just say that they find it distressing (which they probably do). No proof beyond that is required for exemption so it's a toothless law. Really the reason for it being in place is to enforce businesses continuing to strongly encourage mask use instead of being able to say "come on in, we're not bothered about it here".

A real-world study by the UK Health Security Agency shows that boosters significantly increase protection against illness from Covid-19. The study found that two weeks after a booster dose, protection levels increased to 93.1% for those who had AstraZeneca for their first two doses and 94% for those who had Pfizer.

In October 2021 Pfizer announced results from phase 3 clinical trials of their vaccine as a booster, showing that it was extremely effective against preventing illness from Covid-19.

In the 5,000 people who received the booster dose, 5 of them developed Covid-19 illness. In the 5,000 people who didn’t get the booster (but were double vaccinated) there were 109 cases of Covid-19

GThe AstraZeneca jab could be the reason why Britain is faring better than Europe when it comes to Covid, the vaccine company's boss has said.*
As countries in the EU - including Germany, the Netherlands and Austria begin to reimpose lockdown restrictions, the UK appears to be coping with the return to relative normality.*
Pascal Soriot, chief executive of AstraZeneca, believes this could be due to the fact that so many older people were given the Oxford vaccine in Britain, whereas members of the EU banned the jab for its elderly populations.*
The EU's medical regulator approved the use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for all age groups in January.
But the rollout stalled in France, Germany and Italy when they recommended that it should not be used for people over 65, citing insufficient data on its efficacy for older people.
By March, they had U-turned on the policy, by which time the UK's rollout had far surpassed their European counterparts with millions of doses of AstraZeneca going into people of all ages.*
This delay, according to Mr Soriot, could be the reason why restrictions are being tightened and hospitalisations are going up in Europe.*

agree

the playing of politics of the EU has come back to bite them in the bum

(BTW TS do i have to book my booster jag or do i get a letter from NHS?)

It was both for me, I got a letter that said I could go on the site and book; which is better than the first two where I just got a letter with the time and location and told to be there.

Netherlands: https://nltimes.nl/2021/11/24/cabinet-decide-friday-tightening-coronavirus-restrictions

The Cabinet will decide this Friday whether it will impose a new set of coronavirus restrictions on the Netherlands. Health Minister Hugo de Jonge said that the Outbreak Management Team will hold its next meeting on Wednesday evening, and will provide advice to the Cabinet the following day.

This will then be discussed by ministers on Friday. Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Hugo de Jonge are expected to hold a press conference to announce any changes later that evening. The next press conference had been expected to happen on December 3, after the coronavirus restrictions introduced on November 13 could be evaluated with three weeks of data.

However, the situation has continued to deteriorate. The average number of daily infections doubled from 11,000 on November 9 to 22,000 on Tuesday, exactly two weeks later. The growth rate in daily infections has largely increased by roughly 40 percent every week for seven weeks straight. The number of daily Covid-19 hospitalizations has also gone up by 30 percent in a week to levels not seen since but for a few days around last Christmas.

"That is why we have asked to bring forward the OMT advice, so that we can make a decision in the short term," says De Jonge. He wants to know from the experts what it takes to "force the turnaround"

Intensive care physician Diederik Gommers made the urgent appeal to bring forward the OMT meeting from Friday, and instead hold talks as quickly as possible. The meeting was originally scheduled for Friday. Gommers told the members of the Tweede Kamer committee on health, welfare, and sport that the Cabinet will need to seriously consider another hard lockdown, and also the closure of schools.

He argued that many intensive care units were shorthanded because of staff members who were forced to stay home to take care of children who were either infected with the coronavirus, or who cannot attend school because of infections in their group.

Gommers said that the intensive care system in the Netherlands can handle a maximum of 650 patients with Covid-19. With 488 ICU patients in care on Tuesday, he said there was a high likelihood that a Code Black situation could arise in intensive care within ten days. In that situation, hospitals have to choose who they can help at the entrance because there are not enough available spaces to help everyone.

De Jonge immediately responded to Gommers during a debate in the Eerste Kamer. He said, "I cannot predict that we will be there in ten days. It seems to me that Mr. Gommers cannot predict that either." De Jonge did say that he would adhere to the advice of the OMT he had at the time, which did not mention the Code Black scenario at the intensive care units.

"This is so important that I can clear my agenda for the OMT at any time if necessary," said pediatrician Karoly Illy, one of the experts in the OMT. Earlier on Wednesday, he said he had no objection to meeting earlier than the planned Friday discussion, but said the decision was up to Jaap van Dissel, the OMT chair and point person at the RIVM.

Illy was not ready to comment on the measures needed to contain the current wave of infections and prevent massive problems in hospitals. "At the previous meeting, last Friday, we said that we would give the previous measures a chance."

Given that positive tests haven't declined but deaths have seemingly dropped significantly, that can only really be attributed to the high booster rates in the elderly (the demographic which will encompass the majority of deaths but not the majority of infections).

Netherlands: today the day of the extra covid press conference

OMT's advice is to close pubs, cinema's, theatres, non-essential stores at 5 PM

but to leave schools open, however the organisation of the pubs, bars, restaurants a representative Robér Willemsen says they rather want a full lockdown than a partial lockdown since closing at 5 PM is not good for business either and they don't feel anything for keeping schools open, they think that will still get cases going up and a partial lockdown will have no effect whatsoever

so it is a difficult decision for PM Rutte and health minister De Jonge

but banning countries doesn't make any difference unless every other country bans them to, because otherwise it will still spread and come in through the other route. The other aspect is that usually, the variant is already here, it's been transmitted around the globe before anyone detects it. There are plenty things to get angry about, but stopping a variant coming into the country is not one of them

It will almost certainly already be seeded across the globe if it's started to be picked up in testing. These "names by country" variants didn't even necessarily mutate in the named country... it's just the country where the variant was first detected.

If it's been picked up somewhere the likelihood is that it's already in most countries in some form. They don't check every single Covid test in depth to identify the strain, most are just done on a positive/negative basis, with random sampling to see if new strains show up. If a few examples of a strain start showing up during random testing, then you can be pretty sure that that strain is also responsible for many other cases, and just because it hasn't shown up in a random sample here yet, doesn't mean it isn't already active. Of course the more a strain takes hold, the more likely it is to be picked up.

Worth bearing in mind that South Africa has had very few cases for a long time and has very low vaccine uptake which gives room for any new variant to spread rapidly early on, you'd think it wouldn't be as bad here where 95% of the adult population have some antibodies against covid

they are putting everyone back in a panic, and i have a pretty strong feeling its intentional. Worth bearing in mind that South Africa has had very few cases for a long time and has very low vaccine uptake which gives room for any new variant to spread rapidly early on, you'd think it wouldn't be as bad here where 95% of the adult population have some antibodies against covid

Let’s hope so

they are putting everyone back in a panic, and i have a pretty strong feeling its intentional. They don't know if its vaccine resistant, they dont know if it's more transmissible, they are just painting an oh no picture without anything real to back it up. I find that very frustrating, because its just not necessary

Press releases like this don’t help .

:::

The latest SA variant is easily the most heavily mutated version discovered so far - and it has such a long list of mutations that it was described by one scientist as "absolutely horrific", while another claimed it was easily the worst variant they'd seen.

In Scotland yesterday there were c 3000 cases and 9 deaths. On the same day last
year, with a lockdown in full swing, there were only a third of the cases (949)
but over 3 X the number of deaths (30). In very simplistic terms, you could
deduce that without the vaccine, there would be 3 X the number of deaths this
year as last year. ie 90. But there have been just 9, so vaccines reducing
potential mortality by 90%.

The UK today had 39500 new infections.

Scotland by proportion of the UK is 8% of the population.

Thus, today, proportionately if there was no difference Scotland should have had 3160 of those new infections.

Scotland had 2287 new infections today. A full 1/3 less than would be expected if going by the numbers.

This is standard most days (fewer new infections per capita, proportionately).

This was not the case before there was a significant divergence in things like mask wearing.

bots
27-11-2021, 10:05 PM
that's an invalid interpretation as the population density is lower in scotland than england

The infection rate has stayed predominantly flat across both england and scotland since the mask mandate was removed in england.

Masks may afford a slightly improved chance of protection in edge cases, but if you are in a poorly ventilated room for an hour with someone with covid, wearing a mask, it aint going to make any difference

given that school kids are the biggest driver of infections at the moment from all the relevant data, why arent they making masks mandatory in schools? Doesn't make sense

here only in hallways of schools  but not in classrooms when seated :joker:

while in Germany they have face mask mandatory in schools everywhere not just hallways but also classrooms and also when seated

Every single word of that post of mine you replied to here was a fact.

It's an absolute, undeniable fact that an anagram of Omicrom is Moronic. And the definition I gave of the word moronic is an absolute, undeniable fact.

So what was the real reason in that post that really triggered you and made you get snipey? I get the feeling it was because I was mocking your cult religion and you didn't like it.

I find it mildly irksome when you copy things over from other sites you’re on (American ones) and try to play them off like you came up with them yourself (i.e. the “Moronic” anagram) and I was pointing out that conspiracy sites do this all the time - find “meaning” in anagrams and numerological “patterns” that actually mean nothing. You can continue to pretend that you “noticed the clever anagram yourself” and didn’t just copy it from elsewhere, but I’ll have to continue to ask you to pull the other one :joker:.

The very strange irony is you suggesting that I have a “cult religion” for you to mock when I’m pretty sure the “other parts of the internet” you copied this from will almost certainly be Trump Messiah sites or Social Media accounts.

The point of my post was there was no point to it, I was just mentioning that Moronic was an anagram of the new varient, because yes, I'd seen it on Twitter. Your reaction to that was the strange part. It seemed to trigger a reaction in you that you needed to respond with a personal attack on me.

So I asked you the reason for that sudden outburst towards me, my guess was that it was because I was mocking your new cult religion, but as usual you avoided that question. Seriously, think hard about what brought out that reaction in you from something so minute which meant nothing.

"The chances I have a bus driver on my side are very high"

I hope they kick you off the Buss, Alf
I would
you are a Trouble Maker.I payed for a weekly ticket which runs out on Wednesday. Those mandates were not in place when I payed for my ticket. They took my money off me for that ticket to ride on their buses maskless.

I will film them for court evidence if they don't allow me on.

I'm supporting the rights of the vulnerable, immuno suppressed, young, old and basically people who want to reduce their risk of catching pr transmitting covid. Not quite sure what freedoms are being removed asking people to cover their faces in crowded areas.....are you that beautiful that to cover your face will cause distress? As I said in a previous post, I'm sure if you caught it and were hospitalised you would not refuse to wear an oxygen mask?

Can we just go on as normal like we have done for the past 43 years of my life?
