Fair enough, you didn’t make it clear though .
We get someone saying ‘the infections are down today !” more or less every Saturday.
As regards being the eternal pessimist..I’m actually quite upbeat after this week .
Figures do seem to be plateauing although that could be due to the half term circuit break ... BUT we have effective medicines coming soon plus boosters .

when i used to commute every day, i saw the same people on every journey, there isn't infinite interactions. When social groups mix it's a similar thing. This means that infections have a finite spread. When the infection rate goes down it basically means these groups have been saturated with the current covid strain. With high vaccination rates, some people just won't be affected in groups at all. The infection rate will drop significantly at some point, it's a statistical certainty as long as the dominant strain remains the same

Sorry, because one person died, which is tragic of course, but one...all mums should have the vaccine? **** off. Thats not logic. People die for all kinds of reasons.
Mary died because she randomly became allergic to peanuts and ate a(n?!) M&M. Therefor all M&Ms are banned incase this happens to someone else.

if the stats are true and if it means anything out of the normal
the numbers on ventilator arent specific to covid and respiratory issues increase in the winter so the net increase could be upward even though those with covid on ventilator could be coming down.

As I understand it, you will only get this if you have an underlying condition i.e obseity, heart disease, diabetes
the availability of pills is a starting position. As time goes by, just like the vaccine, it will become available to different groups
It's not just about the pills, there are better treatments coming out across the board. The chances of survival are orders of magnitude better than they were in march 2020. Vulnerable people are vulnerable to all sorts of diseases, unfortunately, it's just a fact of life

In The Matrix, in which the protagonist is offered the choice of a red pill, representing truth and self-knowledge, or a blue pill representing a return to blissful ignorance. By analogy, it seeks to bring awareness to the contrast between the men's rights movement, fathers' rights groups, and what they perceive as gynocentrism in wider society.

ok well now we certainly know astrazeneca vaccine is one big flop
apparently in the age group 60-65 blood tests from blood bank Sanquin have shown in that particular age group especially antibodies are the lowest, over months of time after vaccination with astrazeneca
wise decision from my parents then to refuse astrazeneca and wait for pfizer
also in France, 80% of hospital patients, and ICU capacity are with people in ages between 50-64, including many of those who are vaccinated with AZ
same here in my nation, also most of ICU capacity filled with people of age group 60-65 whom were jabbed with AZ
the antibodies percentages came back higher from people who both had the vaccine and had covid before

Utrecht cancels Sinterklaas arrival, and also extra covid rules in Limburg
The Sinterklaas arrival party in Utrecht is canceled due to the coronavirus, the municipality of Utrecht announced on Wednesday. The party would have been Sunday. The mayors of the 15 municipalities in Noord- and Midden-Limburg also imposed further restrictions on parties around Carnival on Tuesday, banning many parties around the kick-off to the season.
The organizer of the Sinterklaas arrival party in Utrecht informed the municipality that it no longer wishes to take on the arrival "due to current developments around the coronavirus," the municipality said in a letter. The city said it shares concerns about the increasing infections.
Utrecht "regrets and respects" the organizer's decision. Due to the short time until Sunday, there is no option to provide an alternative. The central arrival of the saint would already have been in an adapted form, without a public reception and a tour through the city.
The municipality of Utrecht called the cancellation a "disappointment for many children, their parents, and the volunteers involved who again this year do not get the chance to receive Sinterklaas during a central entry into our city. A huge disappointment."
According to the municipality, the Sinterklaas arrival parties in various Utrecht neighborhoods on November 13 and 20 have different organizers and will continue.
The mayors in Noord- and Midden-Limburg imposed further restrictions for parties in tents and on squares. These kinds of festivities, which are mainly organized around the kick-off of Carnival season, are for the most part banned. The ban will last until Monday, November 15, the Limburg Noord Security Region announced on Tuesday evening.
In this way, the region wants to do more against the ever-increasing number of coronavirus infections. Earlier, the mayors in this region already decided to ban all large-scale Carnival events such as the 11th of the 11th in Roermond.
The ban now also includes musical parties in tents or on squares where visitors have no fixed seating. Sinterklaas arrival parties may continue with the applicable rules regarding the coronavirus measures and after coordination with the municipalities. The same applies to Sint Maarten celebrations.
The mayors made an urgent appeal to residents and entrepreneurs "to take responsibility to reduce the number of infections together and thus protect each other. Ultimately, this also relieves the pressure on healthcare."
"Stick to the measures in force and above all use your common sense. If you are in the catering industry or village hall, follow the basic advice such as keeping 1.5 meters apart. This reduces the chance of coronavirus transmission, and you protect yourself and others. Have yourself tested in case of symptoms, even if you have been vaccinated, and stay at home."

I still think face masks and some social distancing should be in place.
I agree with anyone who thinks that.
I'm not going to be happy with or be relieved at still over 1000 deaths a week.
Winter isn't here yet either.
It may be a bit premature to think all will be or is well so I won't.
Yes good news
Although schools have been back now for 10 days ( 8 school days ) so maybe things may start to rise now ?!?
Let’s hope not

Massive spikes in german cases today.
all the vaccinated countries are on a pretty level playing field now. There may be a slight timeshift as to when infection rates rise and fall, but they will all follow a similar profile. The mask requirements make zero difference as has been shown by wales having a higher infection rate than england. Covid passports don't stop people spreading covid either so we just have to let the infection burn itself out and hope a new nastier strain doesnt appear

Massive spikes in German cases today.
Yes
[The rate of coronavirus infections in Germany
has hit record levels.
The country has seen 201.1 new cases per 100,000
residents over the last week;
the previous high was 197.6 in December
last year.
While it's still a lower rate than in
several other European countries,
it has set alarm bells ringing about
what has been called a “pandemic of the unvaccinated”.]
[Germany currently has a caretaker
national government after its election in September.
The parties that are expected to form
the next government plan to bring legislation
to parliament this week that would allow
an “epidemic situation of national scope,”
in place since March 2020,
to expire at the end of the month
but provide a new legal framework
for coronavirus measures.]

Austrians are days away from a first lockdown for anyone not fully vaccinated, after record infections were reported across the country.
Upper Austria province will impose restrictions from Monday if it gets the go-ahead from the federal government. Salzburg faces similar measures.
Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said a national lockdown for the unvaccinated was "probably inevitable".
Two-thirds of people should not suffer because others were hesitant, he said.
Upper Austria, which borders Germany and the Czech Republic and has a population of 1.5 million, has the country's highest level of infection and the lowest vaccination rate.
Nationally, a record 11,975 Covid-19 infections were recorded in the past 24 hours and Austria's coronavirus commission has warned of a threat that "must be taken seriously".

Eastern Europe has just been having a very bad time because of their low vaccine uptake but it seems to be stabilising now

No, not yet
this is more leaked from the media what'll be announced tonight in the press conference
but already some criticism from theatre producers
well it is not the government's fault, public themselves are to blame for not being able to think themselves about maybe better to wear masks and distance on your own rather than these lockdowns being necessary :idc:

more of a concern is that quite a high amount of people between the age groups 50-65 on the ICU's and in hospital again
in my nation, and in france, and also many new cases, hospitalisation numbers in germany either
and most of which what was jabbed with astrazeneca
hope this is not the case in the UK? since a huge percentage of britain is jabbed with AZ if i remember correctly

yes @Alf there was a protest outside of the building where the press conference was being held in The Hague
5 arrests were made by police, and water cannons were deployed to break up the group of protesters
one of the reasons europe is suffering more than the uk at the moment is that europe stuck to the standard interval between the 2 jabs whereas the uk extended the interval to 12 weeks, so the protection is more long lasting in the uk than it is in europe.
However, at some point, it will all equalise again. We all go through cycles of infection and we are just on a different sync to the rest of europe

Face masks are required at indoor public locations wherever coronavirus passes are not required.

Hospitality businesses must close at 8 p.m. nightly. They may not open until 6 a.m. the following day.
Fixed assigned seats are required for all hospitality business customers.
Essential retail locations, like supermarkets, pet stores, and drugstores, must close at 8 p.m. nightly. They may not open until 6 a.m. the following day.
Non-essential shops and businesses which are open to the public must close at 6 p.m. nightly. This includes close contact professions, such as hair stylists. They may not open until 6 a.m. the following day.
Organized events must start after 6 a.m., and end by 6 p.m. nightly, but arts and culture performances are exempted. The exemption covers cinemas, live theaters, and concert venues.

People should, "Work at home, unless there is really no other option."
Long-term measures under consideration

The businesses can choose to exclude people who have only tested negative for the coronavirus. The 2G system excludes unvaccinated and those who have not been infected. The 3G system includes them.
Expanding the use of coronavirus access passes to include retail locations, zoos, and amusement parks.
Allowing employers to require workers to present a coronavirus access pass.
Businesses opting for the 3G access pass system may be required to provide assigned seating.

Austria is placing about 2 million unvaccinated people in lockdown from Monday amid record infection levels and growing pressure on hospitals.
"We are not taking this step lightly but it is necessary," Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said.
Unvaccinated people will only be able to leave home for a limited number of reasons, like working or buying food.
About 65% of Austria's population is fully vaccinated, one of the lowest rates in western Europe.
Meanwhile the seven-day infection rate is more than 800 cases per 100,000 people, one of the highest in Europe.
Overall, Europe has again become the region most seriously-affected by the pandemic and several countries are introducing restrictions and warning of rising cases.
The unvaccinated were already barred from visiting restaurants, hairdressers and cinemas but will now be told to stay at home.
"In reality we have told one third of the population: you will not leave your apartment anymore apart from for certain reasons," Mr Schallenberg said.
"That is a massive reduction in contacts between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated."
The government says police will carry out spot checks in public spaces to determine their vaccination status.
The new measures - which do not apply to children under 12 or those who have recently recovered from Covid - will initially last for 10 days, Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein said.
Some critics have questioned whether the move is constitutional. The far-right Freedom Party has said it will create a group of second-class citizens.

That says 99.8% not 98% but I’m not sure where the figure comes from… ass official Covid stats put the risk at around 2-3% and “best guess” of the true figure (including low symptomatic and mild untested cases) has always been predicted at around 0.8% (I.e. 99.2% safe).
I suppose because of fewer deaths amongst the vaccinated that could now be down as low as 0.2% risk?
Of course that would still make the image wrong because UNVACCINATED people would still have the 0.8% risk.
It’s also entirely dependant on age and health.
Risk for a healthy 20 year old is waaaay lower than 0.2%. Risk for a 70 year old with health issues is easily 10%+ vaccinated or not. So really the stats can’t be applied generally… an individual’s “percentage risk” is going to be unique.

Surely charging for PCRs will stop loads of people from getting tested ??
These lateral flow are practically useless ..
We had a student who had four negative lateral flow results but tested positive when he went for a PCR.

As far as I can see it is the lateral flow tests, they just wont be available to the public as they are now but sent to care home and hospitals instead I think

if people have to pay for testing in a routine setting, they are just not going to do it, so the government want to supress the numbers testing positive. That's the pretty obvious conclusion to me

Austria has become the first country in western Europe to reimpose a full Covid-19 lockdown this autumn to tackle a new wave of infections.
It comes days after some two million people who are not fully vaccinated against Covid-19 were placed under lockdown rules as the country faces a surge in cases.
"We are not taking this step lightly, but unfortunately it is necessary," Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said at the time.
Currently, unvaccinated people are only be allowed to leave home for limited reasons, such as working or buying food.
These rules will apply to the whole population from Monday.
Austria has recorded more than 15,000 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to the World Health Organization.
Austria's national lockdown will be assessed after 10 days, the chancellor says.
"We don't want a fifth wave," Alexander Schallenberg tells a news conference after meeting the governors of the country's nine provinces at a resort in western Austria.
He is also announcing that Covid vaccinations will become mandatory from 1 February.

the evolution of the Delta variant is offering a cautiously optimistic glimpse of how the next few months of the pandemic could unfold for the UK.
AY.4.2, an offshoot of the original Delta strain which now accounts for 15 per cent of new UK cases, appears to produce fewer symptoms in people than its parent.
Scientists at Imperial College London, as part of their ongoing React study into the prevalence of the virus in the UK, found that 66.7 per cent of AY.4.2 cases were symptomatic, compared to 76.4 per cent of its Delta parent, AY.4.

There's still a relatively decent chance it'll eventually progress to a very mild cold-like illness like 4 of the other Coronaviruses... the interesting fact remains that we have little idea of what those viruses looked like when they first entered the human population. If a strain develops that has very mild symptoms but spreads easily, it's highly likely to become the dominant strain.

Well, they CAN, but trying to alter and engineer viruses in a lab setting is asking for trouble really. They could end up accidentally making something worse.

You can see from the graph above that Tayside is still the most infected area in
Scotland, but the trend is coming down. Glasgow and the Lothians have been
much lower in recent weeks, but you can see they are definitely going up at the
moment. The overall effect in Scotland is a slow. gradual increase in numbers
(as one would expect going into winter), possibly flattening off however.

How do your stats look against ours in Manchester ??
My in-laws are from Manchester area, we went away for a week (up here in Scotland) with them recently.
My sister in law and her partner aren't vaccinated and don't want to be vaccinated, and most of their friends are apparently the same. None of them brought masks and were surprised they needed them in shops etc. because "hardly anyone" wears them in the town they all live in any more.
Quickly got a pretty clear idea of why things keep flaring up so badly in the North of England to be honest...

Nobody wears masks in the Gtr Manchester area ... we are roughly the same rate as ‘England’ currently but on the rise again

In several places in the Netherlands, police were busy on Saturday evening with young people who had gathered and set off fireworks, causing unrest. Social media posts called for people to join the riots. In some cases, heavy fireworks were thrown at police. Police took 28 people into custody.
An emergency order was issued in The Hague for the Schilderswijk and Transvaal. The riot police were also on site. Due to the riots in Rotterdam on Friday, the police in The Hague were visible with more officers. Small groups of young people who hung out on the street were asked to identify themselves. "We are extra alert," a police spokesperson said. Rioters set an underground container on fire. Police arrested seven people. Five officers were injured during the unrest, one of whom sustained a head injury.
The riot police squad was also deployed in the Roermond neighborhood De Kemp. Rioters threw heavy fireworks at police who were present in large numbers. Police tried to disperse the rioters and chased them through the area. Officers arrested twelve people, for among other offenses, threats, loitering and failing to provide identification.
The police also had to intervene in the Limburg town of Stein after various reports of disturbances. Police arrested one person and did not exclude the possibility of further arrests. Mayor of Stein Marion Leurs-Mordang issued an emergency order until Monday.
In Urk, the Public Prosection Services temporarily permitted preventative frisking after rioters pelted police with heavy fireworks. Law enforcement took eight people into custody for possessing or setting off fireworks.
There were also disturbances around at the football stadiums in Alkmaar during the match between AZ and NEC and during the match between Heracles and Fortuna Sittard in Almere. The game in Almere stopped after people threw fireworks on the field. The competition between AZ and NEC was paused due to the unrest.
There were calls to set off fireworks in Bunschoten and in Eindhoven on social media, particularly Telegram. Police monitored social media messages closely. "We did not want it to get out of hand," a police spokeswoman said. In Amsterdam and Rotterdam, there was an increased police presence. Friday evening, riots had broken out on the Coolsingel in Rotterdam, leading to 51 arrests. At least seven people were injured during the protests, three of them sustained bullet wounds.

Thousands turn up at canceled anti-coronavirus policy demonstration in Amsterdam
On Saturday afternoon, thousands of people gathered at the Dam Square to protest coronavirus measures, despite organizers calling off the event due to safety concerns after riots in Rotterdam Friday evening, AT5 reported.
Demonstrators walked from the Dam Square towards Centraal Station around 2:30 p.m. Crowds already began to form at the Dam Sqaure half an hour earlier. Police and riot police were present. The protest was said to be progressing peacefully.
At the Chasséveld in Breda, hundreds of demonstrators took part walking and dancing in a demonstration against the Cabinet's coronavirus measures. Ten buses of the so-called party express also participated in the demonstration through the city.
Four Breda DJs organized the protest under the name 076AAN after the Cabinet announced new coronavirus measures last week, including bars and restaurants at 8 p.m.

The media was heavily present at the demonstration after riots erupted on the Coolsingel riots Friday evening. The organizers of the protest said they had been in contact with police. Officers were visible in the city but not directly on the Chasséveld.
Participants carried signs reading, "It's starting to look like China here," "No test = no virus," and "An injection is not sexy."
"We'll make it a party," organizer and DJ Joost Eras said prior. Eras said he was shocked by the violence in Rotterdam but saw no reason to call off the protest. "We are not canceling. We are going to show in Breda that it is possible. We are only bringing love. Anyone who does not accept that can leave," Eras said.

Rotterdam's police chief Fred Westerbeke regarding the shots fired
these were just thugs who we shot at, whom had the intention to injure or even kill some of our colleagues
and he also admitted that the police was not prepared for huge riots like these, but more prepared for like 100 people who came to protest, but these protests got hijacked by thugs who have nothing to do with the anti covid policy protests
and he also called for action from the parliament to do something against these protesters, thugs
