I guess so I suppose it depends when the virus got there

COVID-19 related deaths among Brazil's indigenous populations rose to 182 by 1 June – a rise of 154 fatalities from 28 instances recorded at the end of April.

It says in the info you posted there were 28 deaths at the end of April so that's a rise of 126 in around 4 weeks, or just over 31 a week. Out of 850,000 that's not bad.

The way I see it is that all the current government measures and guidelines have one purpose, to absolve the government of any responsibility when things go wrong. They really don't seem to care about peoples welfare at all.

So just something to mull over.

We where working for Charles, yesterday at his riverside boathouse property, he has a business in China and its in wuhan.

His business rep came back from there in November and developed pneumonia symptoms, he went to hospital and was told they did not know what it was but sent him home with meds.

So like others have suggested the virus was in China and then in this country much earlier than first thought.

An apparent surge in traffic outside Wuhan hospitals from August 2019 may suggest the coronavirus hit the area earlier than reported, a study says.

Harvard researchers say satellite images show an increase in traffic outside five hospitals in the Chinese city from late August to December.

The traffic spike coincided with a rise in online searches for information on symptoms like "cough" and "diarrhoea".

China said the study was "ridiculous" and based on "superficial" information.

It is believed that the virus first appeared in China some time in November. Authorities reported a cluster of pneumonia cases with an unknown cause to the World Health Organization (WHO) on 31 December 2019.

"Clearly, there was some level of social disruption taking place well before what was previously identified as the start of the novel coronavirus pandemic," Dr John Brownstein, who led the research, told ABC news

I have (anecdotally) heard quite a few hospital respiratory consultants say that they saw a number of "unexplained" respiratory conditions in the back half of 2019, none that ended up in ICU or with a death, but very bad coughs and they couldn't discover a "usual" cause. Patients recovered and they just chalked it up as random occurences - but looking back at chest x-rays of those patients from when they were ill, they look very much like Covid x-rays.

Samm
09-06-2020, 12:23 PM
There's been a theory that the first lot of unexplained respiratory conditions in late 2019 was the first wave of the virus and that it just went unnoticed and the outbreak that we've had this year is the second more deadly wave due to the virus already adapting to us. Obviously this isn't fact and we will probably not know until years of investigation. It could be a positive due to the if it was to go out of control again the wave would be less deadly because the virus has already been going around for longer.

It’s interesting that it’s still not a fact or it’s still not known whether you can get immunity to coronavorus once having had it. There are still dividing pieces/articles being written with conversing views. Once this is known it will change the game massively as to how the world responds. If immunity is possible then life will return to normality quicker, if not a vaccine will be the only way to have normality maybe?

you can only lock people down when they want to be locked down. Do people forget the scenes so quickly in London where people were out partying without a care in the world when they were specifically told it was dangerous to do so, the week before the lockdown.

Yes, if people had obeyed things a week earlier when they were told to do so it would have been a lot better, many less would have died, but you can't have a successful lockdown until people understand that lives depend on it, and that takes time to hit home.

The scenes in Italy had been splashed across the news for weeks. There is absolutely nothing to suggest it was impossible, because leaders move the needle, they don't wait for Fred in Hastings to give them the ok. We're talking about a week, not 6 months.

Anyone a bit more tempted to break the rules than they have previously. Like me have you just had enough??

My 15 year old niece came for a visit today for the day in the garden but it was freezing and cold and I just thought sack it and let her come in the house

Im also thinking next time my mum and dad come to visit im gonna let them hold the baby for like 20 seconds each or something...

Everyone else is doing worse

It’s kinda odd isn’t it .. over the last few days .. coincidentally since we’ve seen all those thousands of protesters crammed into small areas ( 20,000 in Manchester apparently) it’s almost as though a switch has been flicked .. we are seeing more people and traffic and people just don’t seem too bothered about the two metre distance.. there’s still the ones driving past in cars ( alone) still wearing masks and cyclists wearing masks though.

I guess we will know more in a few weeks when things may be a lot better or could be horrendously bad ..

I’m more worried about the protesters/ riots spreading across the country and turning into riots and looting like a few years ago . All these statues being pulled down or vandalised could easily trigger mass unrest .

My next door neighbour is convinced that the uk is a powder-keg just waiting for a spark or two

Just to quantify this.

The USA has almost 5 times our population.
Brazil has almost 3 times our population.

For the UK to be sitting there despite the forewarnings of what was happening in Italy from January.
Is really depressing.

The tragedy of this is the loss of lives.
So many Worldwide.
With the devastation that leaves too for families, friends and neighbours of those lost loved ones lives.

Just a theory but reading between the lines

In other countries like Pakistan, they are having to turn people away from hospital its currently 3 patients to a bed

So is the quarantine rule in place for this reason, is it possible people could fly over for a place at a hospital when they actually have the virus

But its been labelled as quarantine to not seem controversial or racist perhaps

this is more a ongoing discussion at the moment in my country, how safe it is in planes, and also how can you social distance while still wanting to safely travel on holidays

also is looked into what they can do differently about ventilation on planes, to make that safer, adapted to the corona regulations

no-one has said it is safe, people will continue to get the virus until there is herd immunity or a vaccine. All that the lockdown and social distancing do is reduce the strain on the NHS, no-one from the government has ever suggested anything else. I don't know where people got the idea it would be safe after the lockdown

Pretty much I am of that thinking.

The first duty of any government or health officialdom in this pandemic, is to ensure the protection of, safety of and also ensure no risks whatsoever are in place to all the Nation's citizens.

I fear the economics are taken over.
On the evening of March 23rd the PM put the Nation on a 12 week lockdown.
Then started to ease things way before that 12 weeks are up.
In fact they aren't up until Tuesday.

Of course ways have to be looked at, to try to get as much of the economy moving again.
However not recklessly.
Which sadly, I think is what's happening now.

With so much being eased and too soon.
The cracks are even now showing from the so called scientific advice Ministers claim to have been following all through.
Until now.

Weeks ago, the first number of the R number was at 0.5.
It is now believed to be between 0.7 to 0.8.
The higher one between 0.9 to in some areas 1.1.

That is a negative sign and not one to instil confidence to relax across the board, even moderately.

There's been enough, in my view, of sacrificing of loved ones lives in the debacle of the 'care homes' crisis in this.
Without risking more lives generally now.

A young woman was raped; a man died from a 'drug overdose'; three people were stabbed; and police were attacked as up to 6,000 people attended illegal raves in Greater Manchester on Saturday night.
Police and politicians have condemnded the events, which were 'clearly a breach of coronavirus legislation and guidelines and have had tragic consequences'.
Police say around 4,000 people gathered in Droylsden before spilling into Daisy Nook Country Park in Oldham.
Around 2,000 people attended an event in Carrington, Trafford.
In a lengthy statement, Greater Manchester Police said:

A 20-year-old man has died of a suspected drug overdose and three others were stabbed, as thousands attended two raves in Manchester on Saturday night.
The man had attended a gathering of around 4,000 in Droylsden, according to Greater Manchester Police.
Nearby in Carrington there were reports of three separate stabbings at another 2,000-strong party, including one which left an 18-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.
Two other men, aged 25 and 26, were also injured

Teachers are struggling with the constant government changes in advice and regulations

Ashley Parry is headteacher of two small primary schools in High Peak, Derbyshire: Thornsett, which has 85 pupils, and New Town, with 73. “Probably the most difficult thing throughout this has been the constant guidance changes,” he said. “I sent a newsletter out to parents at the end of last month and at that point there had been 150 guidance changes. I think it’s 180-something now. It’s just constant.”

Britain and Sweden remain on Amber List, meaning you can't travel there

code yellow are: Germany, Italy, Portugal, Croatia meaning safe to visit but you need to stick to coronaregulations in the specific country

Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Ireland among the countries who will go from amber to yellow from July 1st

Denmark is on amber list, because it has not been said yet if dutch tourists will be admitted there, and officials are still advising against travel outside the EU

Hans Mosselman, who runs small holiday firm SolFly, told the paper that the sector itself should be more active. ‘There is less likelihood of catching coronavirus in tourist destinations round the Mediteranean, such as the Greek, Spanish and Italian islands and Portugal, than in the Netherlands,’ Mosselman said.

Sat ,Sun and Monday figures are always low ... thankfully though the overall figures ( if genuine) are looking promising- generally speaking .

That said it may look different in a week or two after two weekends of protests, kids returning to school , more shops reopening , more people returning to work .. but we won’t know what the cause was .

I recall a professor saying last week that if the infection rate went suddenly through the roof then the government wouldn’t have a clue what the reason was for the upsurge. He said when you experiment you only change ONE variable

Absolutely right.

I get so irritated when the crowing is from Ministers, ''deaths are falling''.

It's rising deaths that are falling.
Every death, leaves a family, friends and neighbours grieving the loss of any loved one before their time.

As you point out, let's see 2 or 3 weeks what is happening then.

I'd hope for success of course.
Something we haven't had at all in my view really.
Borne out by our horrific death toll.

Your last paragraph, spot on too.

this is the exact reason why we have a quarantine period on entering the country, temperature checks are just not good enough. Of course industry is saying we cant operate with quarantine and we can't operate with social distancing, so what do the government do ... they are damned either way.

The government have made a lot of mistakes, sure ... but i'm not sure that there is a solution. The only thing they can do is give things a try and see if hospital admissions are affected. People are going to keep getting covid, people are going to continue to die, no matter what approach is taken until we get effective treatment and or a vaccine .... my bet is on effective treatment, but will it be here before another winter? I doubt it, and there won't be another lock down

It's a global pandemic and their borders are not closed. This is an inevitability... it's not possible for a country to be Covid-free... it probably never will be, any more than it's possible for a country to be truly measles-free ("measles free status" does not mean zero cases).

the good old negativity in here :(

i have some more positive news, from Vietnam only 11 cases left there (still no deaths)

the last local case can breathe on his own now, no need for ventilator anymore

whom recovered from something called a ''cytokine storm'' which makes his immune system overreact to the virus, almost fully had destroyed his lungs, there was a short time when only 10% of it was functional

so another miracle recovery there

Cytokine storm is the usual cause of death when young, healthy people die (of any common virus). The short explanation is, some inflammation is a normal immune response, cytokine storm is a sort of "chain reaction" of systemic inflammation that ends up causing more damage, which causes more inflammation, which causes more damage... etc.

TS lesson of the day :hee:.

NZ's borders are effectively closed, you can only enter the country with special permission like these two had because of a relative dying. Agree there will inevitably be new cases but with the right measures they can probably keep that number very low in a country like that

Well yes that (in theory) is what the track & trace programmes are for. But the idea that it'll "never sneak in" when there are, most likely, hundreds of millions infected globally at this point... is unrealistic. I mean we're still trying to figure out how to keep the disease-riddled English out of Scotland.

'Chinese virus' has racial implications in a time where racial aggression towards all asian people are at a high. 'UK virus' doesn't have the same connotations.

Calling the Coronavirus the 'Chinese virus' will only hurt asian people living their lives. The people who are likely to blame Covid on race are just simply less likely to blame UK people in the same way because, unless they speak, you can't tell. Plus a lot of these bigots will assume that the UK is a white country so they would be less likely to feel the need to lash out.

Well I explained the difference between referring to it as the UK virus and the Chinese virus. One leads to the increase of racial aggression and violence and the other does not. It's dumb to refer to it as either country's violence but referring it to the Chinese virus inevitably puts Asian people at risk of morons who think it gives them the right to racially harass others.

There's no point in vaguely acknowledging that I've said something and then completely ignoring what I've actually said.

number of new cases +140

this is more going up still because now more people than before can get tested here in Netherlands
