tomorrow there will be new easing down measures
now elementary schools will partially reopen
and it is looking like very likely the 1st of June easing down to go ahead as planned, like movie theatres partially reopening, restaurants partially reopening
but all will be said in more detail tomorrow evening in the annual press conference by Mark Rutte and minister of health Hugo De Jonge

more like a advice, not a must
and movie theatres partially reopening like, just a handful of people at a time spread across the room, so not people too close to each other
same goes for restaurants, also tables with 1.5 metres distance from each other and also not overly crowded, more pre-arranged dining appointments with requested specific times

A woman on JV this morning had a good point about schools , people moan about the lockdown being 2 weeks too late, but the virus was about then when schools were operating as normal and nothing was out of the norm, its ok for teachers to not want to go back as they have the unions behind them and are on full pay, some children are in vunerable homes etc and need to be somewhere safe, also some schools have never closed ,and pupils have been attending,so for me I think we are being unnecessarily scared,as life is never guaranteed 100% no one can guarantee anywhere is 'safe' .

I personally think that older kids should have gone back first - those who have more of a chance of understanding and being able to abide by social distancing. Then we could see what would happen to the R and made decisions on getting the younger children back based on the scientific evidence of having schools open again.
Loss of smell or taste have been added to the UK's list of coronavirus symptoms that people should look out for and self-isolate with.
Until now, only a fever and cough were triggers for people to shut themselves away in self-isolation in case they had and could spread the infection.
Ear, nose and throat doctors had been warning for weeks that more symptoms should be included.
Scientific advisers told the government to update the advice.
If you or someone you live with has any of these symptoms - a new, continuous cough, fever or loss of smell or taste (also called anosmia) - the advice is stay at home for seven days to stop the risk of giving coronavirus to others.
Cough and loss of smell or taste can persist after seven days. You do not need to keep self-isolating after seven days, unless you have a high temperature or are unwell, says the advice.

Teachers are not on full pay, there has to be certain criteria before state schools can even furlough staff.
Yes schools were open in the two weeks before lockdown, the death rate was exploding at that time, and you say nothing was out of the norm?
Key workers and vulnerable kids are already at school they have been throughout, including over the Easter holidays. Don't forget teachers not only have that backing of the unions but the BMA.
What does life isn't guaranteed 100% mean? That you should just recklessly put your faith in government advisors rather that experts again, I know Mr Gove is all about that but for me?.. No thank you.

He has a point, people were told to self isolate if they came from a country with an outbreak, took the train home, went to work, took cabs to A and E, it will be no different this time, in China they were taken from the airport to accommodation where they were fed and watered for 14 days before they were left loose in the country, that is not going to happen here

Bit more info
Just a week after one-third of French schoolchildren went back to school in an easing of the coronavirus lockdown, there has been a flurry of about 70 Covid-19 cases linked to schools.
Some schools were opened last week and a further 150,000 secondary school students went back to the classroom on Monday as further restrictions were loosened by the government. The move initially spelled relief: the end of homeschooling for many hundreds of thousands of exhausted French parents, many of whom were also working from home.
But French education minister Jean-Michel Blanquer sounded the alarm on Monday, telling French radio RTL that the return has put some children in new danger of contamination. He said the affected schools are being closed immediately.

So is this a political thing now ??
Where Labour councils will prevent their schools from following the Tory’s plea to reopen 1st June ??
At least 300 schools in England will ignore the government’s plans to open to more pupils on June 1 as several councils said it was not safe for them to do so.
Liverpool, Hartlepool, Rochdale and Stockport councils have told parents that the primary schools they control will not be reopening to children from reception, year 1 and year 6 at the start of next month, as proposed by the government, with more local authorities yet to commit.
The growing list of dissenting councils — most led by the opposition Labour party — emerged as a stand-off persisted between ministers and teaching unions demanding more information before accepting that it is safe to begin a phased reopening of schools for up to 2m children. The children of key workers have been able to attend schools through the coronavirus crisis.

We've had an update from my sons school. They are a small one class per year intake and have today prepared the classrooms as per social distancing guidelines. They can fit 6 children plus one adult in each classroom and therefore cannot actually accommodate the number of children from the proposed year groups who wish to return.
The classrooms have all been stripped of all soft furnishing, toys and every bit of comfort that the young age group they are trying to bring back are used to. The classrooms look so sterile and cold.
This is the reception class....

It's not just about the kids, it's also about the staff. Teachers, assistants, office staff, cleaners, dinner ladies, caretaker - all the people it takes to run a school will be at OR feel at risk. Some of them won't be the youngest and fittest but they will be required to go back to work and spend 6 hours in the same room as a 15(?) kids from 15(?) other households, yet they are not yet allowed to spend time in a room with their own families if they are from a different household. How does one teacher on their own keep 15 primary kids social distanced for the whole day? How do they keep them separated at break and meal times?
I can see why no-one is happy with this situation. Right from the beginning we were told that the little darlings were all super spreaders and that's why we had to close the schools, and grandparents were kept away. Now they say children don't transmit the virus, or they are low risk of community transmission so the schools can be opened and the parents can get back to work. However they are not brave enough yet to say it is safe for the kids to mix with their own grandparents so something isn't quite right with this story. Why is it safe enough for strangers to mix with the kids but not their own families from different households?

It was on the ITV news at 6, They failed to pass the info of the virus onto other hospitals apparently, there was too much noise at mine to get everything but that was the gist of it, it was 'exclusive' news so it may be repeated on the later news.
Watching the article it seems clear that it was
Sage that failed to pass on the info,as data collected since march on hospital infections was classified and not released until may 5th.
there are going to have been 100's of mistakes made by any front line worker/government representative/agency ... we are human. This is something none of us has had to deal with before. It's easy for us to sit in our armchairs and criticize, it's much more difficult when having to make decisions in the moment.

tbf it's an easier decision for the Irish government, the schools didn't stay open for key workers kids and they close for the holidays in two weeks anyway, schools didn't close here, and there are 8 weeks of the school year left, for the first six weeks of lockdown every day someone was complaining about the impact of schools being closed, now they are proposing to partially reopen everyday someone is complaining about the impact of open schools

I love that they have this plan of trying to get 5 year olds to stay two metres apart. I wonder if any of these politicians have actually encountered a 5 year old, or if Nanny did most of the early child raising? :joker:
Spoiler: Herding cats.
You cannot REALISTICALLY get most children under at least 9 or 10 to socially distance reliably. Even then there are going to be some that either flout the rules or just plain forget.

I don't disagree, just finding it hard to swallow the hypocrisy of head teachers who have rotated their staff daily for the past 8 weeks to look after key worker children so rather than limiting contact with adults, they have opened up a whole pool of adults and children who can get infected but don't appear to have? apart from the odd case here and there

trial - a mixed verdict so far]
[It is 10 days since all Isle of Wight residents were
invited to test the NHS app at the heart
of the government's test,
track and trace strategy. So how's it going?
Mixed would probably be a fair verdict.
The big concern was how many people
would download it. Epidemiologists suggest that
for the UK as a whole, about 60% of the
population needs to install and use the software
for it to live up to its full potential.]

I'm not sure if the BBC's example of a vulnerable family who struggle to work remotely will have much sympathy. A family with 6 kids who can't afford a a tablet or laptop and then down the road another family with 5 kids who also can't afford a tablet /laptop.
I’m wondering... "if you have no money why would you have 6 kids?"

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk ProTo be fair I don't think it's just about money, homeschooling multiple kids must be an actual hellscape.
We have a somewhat ridiculous amount of tech. I have a gaming PC, we have 2 windows laptops and a Macbook, kids both have tablets etc. but we've still run into hurdles. Google classroom basically works MUCH better on a decent desktop PC than it does on a laptop and it's just generally easier to work with that space, but it's also hard for me to work from home on laptop, so me and my daughter were bickering over PC use for weeks (yes I bicker with a 10 year old). So much so that last week I caved and bought a 2nd hand graphics card and cobbled together a second desktop for her... So she now has a full "school station" at the dining table.
It's still hard going some days.
That's ONE KID! My other daughter only has simple things to do on her tablet and her "attendance" isn't mandatory so easier there.
But trying to orchestrate home schooling for 3 or 4 kids? I can't even imagine. I can only assume it's near-impossible and some kids are simply falling way behind.
A colleague of mine (we're all working from home) has just taken 6 weeks long term sick off with stress because she's not coping with homeschooling 4 kids + work from home.
It really is a mess.
Sky News reporting on the Swedish care home scandal !!
A whistleblower ( nurse) was happy to reveal that dreadfully poorly care home patients ( many as young as 65 ) were NOT sent to hospital just dealt with in-home ... looks like the government are trying to shift the blame for those decisions onto the care homes mmmmmmm..
Also in Sweden there is no indication that the rate of new infections coming down ..
Oh and why is it that Sweden, as one of the few countries only publishes the number of patients in ICU but not general hospital admissions related to Covid?
I wonder....

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk ProThat sounds like shock-news rubbish though, like when The Sun did a story about a woman who stockpiled loads of food "only to have to throw it away a month later" but showed a picture of things like crisps and biscuits with a use by of 2022 and beyond, and a jar of bloody PICKLES that will be good for several years.
Nonsense. Turn off the tabloid news channels and bin the papers, would be my advice.
To be fair though, the work they get does take up (almost) a full school day. I'd say about 3 of 4 hours worth of work, so if you factor in a break for lunch etc... Even if a family with 5 kids has 3 computers it wouldn't be enough. Taking turns wouldn't work. A family of 7 with both parents working from home and 5 school age kids would need to be running 7 computers D:. And that's not even factoring in kids needing help/guidance with their work which, again, is bad enough with two kids. It's just not really feasible long term for large families. I dunno what the answer is.

Sage are not a government agency... they are the leading experts in the associated field! To have the information that Covid 19 could explode exponentially in hospitals classified is a sign not only that they knew about it, but that they actively kept it from the public. Not because they didn't know or think it was important, but because it was.
But instead of inquiry and explanations we get the goto response to any criticism, blame the NHS!

So what would your solution be to the staffing issue, ask for volunteers to sacrifice themselves for the duration?
My solution would be rather simpler than that, rather than trying to be fair to staff by bringing everyone in for one day every two weeks or so, put the children's safety first and have the same staff in for at least a week at a time so the children are not mixing with a different set of staff members every day...simples :hee:
I refer you to this post from another thread which you might have missed
I have friends who work in the local special needs school, 4 kids in, 2 per class, every day they have 3 different support staff looking after them as they are on two weekly rotas so over a two week period the kids come into contact with 30 different people and the staff are not even put in with the same two children when they go back in after two weeks, plus one of my friends works in Tesco part time, but the management say that is not an issue So far no Covid oh and no teachers it's just the support staff in, so that is how 'hero's' kids are treated, now it's all about safety?
Teachers possibly furloughed as they are more expensive and it is an Academy?

The same risk exists, the kids and the teacher whether support or not if they attend every other day or every other week. As you said each teacher is exposed to the same risk out of school so there is literally no difference.

Well its heartening to see how few of the profession have died given the number of interactions they will have had with students up to 23rd March. How is it the risk the same for the kids? when limiting your interaction with other people is key to stopping transmission? in the special school where they can't social distance and have to be fed and have personal care, if staff came in once a week the kids would interact with 6 people in a week rather than 30, they want it both ways its seems, but its the kids being put at risk here.

It's far from heartening, no death could ever be described as that. Remember the article quoted went back to 9th March prior to lockdown to 20th April the number of deaths is high enough for that time frame.
Miss x and mr y work in the same year group they both have partners and 2 children, if miss x works every other day and mr y the remainder of the time for 2 weeks the kids are exposed to them both for the same amount of time as both of them working one week each.
If academies are centrally government funded how are they a business, do you think the fact that they are centrally and not locally funding is the reason for the rush to return?

Mmmmm and they’ve been proved to be so reliable .. not
I think people need to realise that the way countries have handled this epidemic has come from advice from WHO
eg - they advised against closing airports but some went against WHOs advice and some had better outcomes now of fatality rates, so it's debatable that WHO's advice has been correct.
There is a review on how they have communicated all things COVID-19 going on now.

Schools stayed open during the Easter holidays and the bank holidays to care for the vulnerable and key worker kids - as they have done since they ‘apparently’ closed in March ... how can you not be aware of that fact !?

Coronavirus: Schools open over Easter for children of key workers
Many schools are remaining open over what should be the Easter holidays to provide childcare for children of key workers.
Annie James, deputy headteacher of Llanishen Fach Primary School in Cardiff, says it has been "very different" with the emphasis on childcare rather than traditional schooling.
The school is one of Cardiff's largest "hubs", acting as a safe environment for children from six neighbouring schools.
And some of the pupils seem to be enjoying the experience, describing it as "more fun than normal school".

surely even you can see interacting with 6 adults in one week is preferable to interacting with 30 but whatever, let's leave it there
Even me?... patronising me doesn't make your point any more logical :/ what year group has 30 teachers?
And even if they had, those 30 individual teachers would have no more risk attached to them than 6... why would they?
The Department for Education’s chief scientific adviser admitted he has not assessed whether guidance on reopening schools is effective, adding the current advice is “draft” and “will be developed”.
Appearing in front of the Parliamentary science and technology committee today, Osama Rahman also admitted the DfE had done no modelling on the impact on transmission rates of starting to reopen schools after the May half term break.
During a hearing that left some MPs visibly bemused, Rahman also suggested the government guidance issued yesterday on safety is a “draft”, and will be reissued after further consultation with Public Health England.
He also said the decision to reopen schools was made by cabinet, not the DfE.
Carol Monaghan, the SNP’s education spokesperson, said that as a former teacher, she “did not think the profession will be satisfied or put at ease with what they are hearing”.
It comes just hours after education secretary Gavin Williamson accused unions who have raised concerns about the reopening plans as “scaremongering”.
Asked about the transmission rate among children during the hearing, Rahman said the evidence is mixed, and there’s a “low degree of confidence in evidence they might transmit it less”.
Monaghan responded: “We’re putting together hundreds of potential vectors that can then go and transmit. Is that correct?”
Rahman said: “Possibly, depending on school sizes.”

Yeah absolutely. We built temporary hospitals here in Ireland too, thankfully because of Lockdown we haven't been overwhelmed either and I'm very grateful for that, our health system wouldn't have handled that very well. It would have been devastating to have had to watch scenes like there was in Italy where medical staff had to choose between patients for ventilator use, horrific. We should be so thankful for that

Well its heartening to see how few of the profession have died given the number of interactions they will have had with students up to 23rd March. How is it the risk the same for the kids? when limiting your interaction with other people is key to stopping transmission? in the special school where they can't social distance and have to be fed and have personal care, if staff came in once a week the kids would interact with 6 people in a week rather than 30, they want it both ways its seems, but its the kids being put at risk here.
Academy is a business so the bottom line is the balance sheet like any other business?
How have you missed the point in so many posts that it’s the key workers kids safety being compromised
Year group ... 30 teachers. ...what are you on about now...like I said in the last thread it’s exhausting having to explain everything in triplicate to you ...go back and read the posts again maybe
Right instead of being rude look at your own posts and see the lack of understanding in them. Limiting your interaction with people is difficult if administering care but there is nothing to say there is less risk attached to one support worker/ teacher than another. That's my point.

I don't disagree, just finding it hard to swallow the hypocrisy of head teachers who have rotated their staff daily for the past 8 weeks to look after key worker children so rather than limiting contact with adults, they have opened up a whole pool of adults and children who can get infected but don't appear to have? apart from the odd case here and there
So what would your solution be to the staffing issue, ask for volunteers to sacrifice themselves for the duration?
[B]
Right instead of being rude look at your own posts and see the lack of understanding in them. Limiting your interaction with people is difficult if administering care but there is nothing to say there is less risk attached to one support worker/ teacher than another. That's my point.
I am merely reacting to your abrasive style of posting, when interacting with me at any rate. This was the post you quoted, it’s clear my point was about the kids, and the number of staff they were having to interact with in a week
If there is no increased risk to interacting with numerous people why are we all limiting our interactions on a daily basis

I'm doubting that now, infact I think it wi help the virus to become stronger in its severity.

Look at the Scots figures now..
Since then london has had 3 weekends of heat and after going down..the figures seem to me to be rising again..

Thanks..but out of 24 people tested at Watford fc today 3 had it...
They felt well enough to go to work and don't look like needing 47 days on a ventilator, I would class them as fresh cases from the 3 weekends of heat we have had..

That's what I used to think, I'm not sure now.
Imagine if this was 5 years in the making, the virus all ready to go all over the world..
All a government's weatheroligist or whatever it's called would need is a very accurate judgement on about 3 months of weather..they then have 5 years to judge their capacity of getting it correct which would be about 20 trial runs...all they would have to look out for is a weather cycle that is going to be unusually warm..
Then you release the virus when it cold to spread it to maximise the effect the heat has on it....
Ps, what's this mutants lowest temperature it can survive on?

although it may be due to a lag in reporting as there was a glitch at the weekend, and if they were tested today they wouldn't have the results for at least 48 hours?
No new cases of coronavirus were recorded in London over a 24-hour period, data published by Public Health England (PHE) has shown.
On Monday, the capital recorded no new infections, down from 19 cases reported the day before. Previously, London has been one of the regions hardest hit by the outbreak in the UK since the first case was reported in February.
Although it appears promising, the new figure should be approached with caution as it could be attributed to a glitch in the Covid-19 patient notification system – which occurred temporarily on 16 May.
NHS England confirmed the system “did not operate for a period of time on Saturday 16 May”.
The Department of Health and Social Care warns the new figures do not mean the epidemic is anywhere close to coming to an end, and are likely a result of a lag in the reporting of new cases from the previous few days. Data for recent days or constantly being revised as more information becomes available.
But the rate of coronavirus infections in London has been falling, raising hopes for further easing of the lockdown.
Research by PHE and the University of Cambridge’s MRC Biostatic Unit showed on 15 May that the rate of infection fell to fewer than 24 cases a day, the lowest in the UK.
Over 200,000 cases were recorded in the capital in a day at the peak of the outbreak in March. But recent data showed the figures in London were halving every 3.5 days

Cherie..I was in a cafe yesterday sat down waiting in the corner on my tiger roll and egg baggy.just of chiswick, (ealing probably)..mr munchies or something..
It was their first day open, a maintenance bloke from a school came in and hugged one of the waitresses..she leaped upon him like me at the end of a strictly dance with my partner before she buckled and broke her ankle.
No new cases now because of the cold weekend, but just you wait until 4 weeks from now.
No I don't have a link to that slavering arsehole either

Tests going up, number of new cases gradually going down
Number of people in hospital under 10k lowest since March
Not saying you’re wrong, but what’s the source of the under 10k in hospitals? Just because that’s great news, want to see more about it!
I'm hoping this ain't like wasps and bees

I had migraines and serve fatigue when I arrived back from Germany in February, I believe I might of had it as I read somewhere it counted for symptoms in around 40% of cases. I wouldn’t worry though as long you’ve not got a cough, fever or breathing issues it won’t be a severe case

Because adults can make their own dumb choices in life, children can’t, a massive false equivalence

I know it's bad to say but I kinda hope I do have a mild case because they say once you have had it you cant contract it again
